  1. What a freakin' place to end! Next Tuesday can't come soon enought. I love the fact that the older members of the team are doing stunts and the younger members are techies. Seeing Ward grow was interesting. Did Grant shoot the dog? I love the reveal that Grant was the first Deathlock. It makes a lot of sense on why Grant wanted to know what happened to Coulson so much. I really want to find out more about Skye's parents.

  2. Oh, I'm shaking again. And Garrett - the emotionally (and physically) abusive bastard that he is totally shot that poor dog.

Aw, Ward does care about them and he'd rather drop them in the ocean to have a chance than let Garrett kill them.

    Great episode!

  3. Aaaaahh, not yet available for me.... Can someone please tell me where I can find a live recap or sth in order to find out what happened?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Garrett was the first Deathlok….i'm sure that' what you meant.:)

You're welcome! Always willing to help a fellow commenter :) And yeah I realized you deleted your comment just after I refreshed the page.

I love how we're getting some more information on Skye! I have been waiting for this since Coulson and May went to Mexico and found out that she is an 0-8-4.

  6. Ooops. You're right!

do we find out next tuesday for ABC shows?

  9. I thought this was a good episode. There were a lot of small moments that really made the episode, like the Coulson/Triplett nerding out, the file transfer, Fitz's moment of bravery, the May/Skye scene and the Garrett/Ward scenes. Surprisingly, I liked seeing his backstory and his messed up relationship with Ward. I'm still hoping Ward is the one who dies at the end of the season, especially since there are theories floating around that Fitz will be the one to bite it. I'm not okay with that, not at all.

Also yayyy they kept Garrett a cyborg, like in the comics! He's like, Gen 1 too lol. Now all I need is for Skye to be Mantis and her parents Zodiac and I will be a happy camper :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. I feel like I've been shopping this theory around for AGES, but I think Skye's father is a villain called Libra in the criminal organization of Zodiac.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Victoria Llanos7 May 2014 at 03:20

Yup, just like he couldn't shoot Buddy, he couldn't kill them, loved the parallel. And the shipper in me is ecstatic he didn't tell Garrett what Raina told him about Skye... he's still protecting her... I still don't think they have a future, but at least he is consistent in that.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Whoa, I just googled Libra and the storyline would sure fit. I'm guessing they'd spin it a bit but it is a very good possibility.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ok, no killing Fitz. I totally agree with that.
Killing Ward is needed by this point. Garrett is to much fun to be killed.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Victoria Llanos7 May 2014 at 03:25

I love Garrett, but he killed a dog, and in my book there's no coming back from that, a person might deserve it, a dog never. So by the end I was also hoping he'd die, so of course he didn't, had I been praying for him to live, he would've probably died...

    ReplyDelete
  15. But he needs to die in a painful way. I'd LOOOOVE to see Mike being able to kill him.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Right? And that would make Skye Mantis, who was a disciple of a Kree sect. It totally works!

At this point, if they DON'T do Zodiac, I will find a beach, and bury my head in the sand. So much of my emotional investment in this show is wrapped up in that theory lmao

    ReplyDelete
  17. Victoria Llanos7 May 2014 at 03:28

He needs to die in a slow painful way, but he really needs to be gone like... yesterday. Thing is I really like the actor, but I guess those are actually brownie points for him, since liking him but hating the carácter speaks wonders of his acting abilities.

    ReplyDelete
  18. SHIELDNCISfan7 May 2014 at 03:32

if he die Garett probably won't be able to produce an army without his funding and support....I see may kill him for revenge

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes! So many people saying it was Ward looking through the scope. That doesn't make any sense. It was totally Garrett making sure Ward did what he was told.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The connection between Skye and Raina is really interesting.

Even more interesting: How long until Garrett starts to suffer the side-effects of the serum?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Very good episode, can't believe Ward dropped FitzSimmons into the ocean but at least they have a chance to survive. Tripp seems to be a nice guy but I still don't see him as a member of a Coulsons team, I just can't!
Loved the scene with flying files lol

    ReplyDelete
  22. SHIELDNCISfan7 May 2014 at 03:42

let hope the team get the bus back next episode....

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm still thinking Ward will kill him. He is the one who pulled the trigger on Skye. Twice.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I figured that her powers might not have manifested yet. I'm guessing that they might start emerging slowly because of the Kree juice she got.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Actually...I got the sense he did. Look at how the scene was cut. He first remembered how he didn't shoot the dog. But then was thinking what...sentimentality is weakness (something that Garrett has drummed into his head).

Now in the present, he's recognizing that he does care for Fitzsimmons...and that's when the scene cuts to the sniper shot then right to him pulling the lever as the gun shot resounds.

Parallels. He killed the dog and he dumped Fitzsimmons in the ocean because sentimentality is weak.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Victoria Llanos7 May 2014 at 04:09

If that's the case I'm sticking to denial, lol. But being more tecnical, how fast would he have to be to get back to were sniper rifle was for the dog to still be runing away and away? Maybe I'm just pulling at strings, like I said animal cruelty in nonacceotable for me, but I choose to believe he didn't kill Buddy, just like he threw FitsSimmons in the ocean to give them a chance to be found by the team or... someone, instead of killing them right there and then. I'm sticking to that until I'm proven wrong by the next episode, or, maybe just maybe, right.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Victoria Llanos7 May 2014 at 04:12

I'm choosing to believe it was Garrett, and I'm sticking to that until I'm oficially proven wrong (which will probably never happen, since the dog will probably never be spoken of again, lol)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like your denial! lol

I wish I could believe it. But the way it was shot...the way it was timed... it was his memory behind the scope... I think it's just another sign as to how thoroughly Garrett has shaped him into what he wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I still think Garrett killed him. They made a point in an earlier flashback that Garrett knew the dog ran off every time Ward shot his rifle. Garrett also said Ward is a "soft touch" like Skye, so I think he knows Ward sometimes struggles to stay detached.

Garrett knew the dog would run if Ward didn't shoot him, so he was looking and waiting, I think. Then I think he killed the dog to send a message to Ward that it's important not to get attached.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Victoria Llanos7 May 2014 at 04:21

Denial is a beautiful thing, lol. It allows to keep faith in a fandom/ character even when there's none. And I'm happy to say that I'll be able to stay in denial about Buddy probably forever, since we're most likely to never here about the por dog again, in any fashion whatsoever. So that's a good thing, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Right but it was Ward's memories. It was Ward's perspective. If the camera had pulled back from the sniper scope and showed Garrett shooting the dog and Ward looking on in horror, I'd concede your point but right now at least, I don't see it. :(

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ward sure showed them huh? I loved the break in at cybertech and found nothing but file cabinets.Too funny.

    ReplyDelete
  33. That is a great theory. I'm going to be disappointed if they don't go that way now.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Amazing episode! And Ward HAS TO DIE! Before this episode, I considered that Ward could potentially redeem himself throught a) dieing to save Skye or b) A whole season of redemption storyline. But now, after what he did to Fitz and Simmons, neither of those will redeem him in my eyes. He took (or tried to, we don't know yet) take the life of 2 main characters, the 2 most adorable ones at that, so he has to die at least twice before being redeemable (and this is a show about superheroes, so it's not completely out of the question).

And I can't believe people are still defending Ward! ''Oh, he didn't shoot the dog, Garrett did'', ''Oh, he dropped them into the ocean to give them a fighting chance''. Yeah, right, you guys are in more denial than Fitz were! I do hope our two favorite scientists will come out of this alive, but this is a Whedon show, and they didn't appear in the promo, so we can't tell. But even if they survive, Ward is one of the most evil character in a Whedon show since Warren shot Tara! So he has to die!!!

I'll give a thumbs up to Dalton, thought, for playing such an amazing villain! Really impressive! Here's hoping May's fury is as strong as she says it is! ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh shit, Fitz/Simmons under the sea in a pod. That's is some serious situations based on their reactions. I assume it can't mover or jet them selves up and out. Whats left is some sort of way you can communicate from within, if so they have to worry about air soon, and if none of that what else can they do to get out, other then that bye bye no no.

Damn Flower Girl, she is one of those nice face evil interior people, makes me never trust her intentions.
When she said she and Skye are alike, got me thinking a bit, but then she goes and throws in a story about monsters trying to find their baby. Makes me even more curious. When she said alike, I was like artificially created?, then monster parents, made me happy for just those you know reasons.

Will the guest star be Nick Fury or someone else, I wonder.

    ReplyDelete
  36. how do you get your friends trust back after you throw them into the ocean? great episode.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I took it like that - he didn't kill the dog, he was weak, so Garrett punished him - the dog was killed anyway. So he doesn't want to kill Fitz and Simmons, but he knows they'll die anyway.

  40. Great mix of drama and comedy again well done...please renew, looking at the new shows that are in production for next year and it's the same old cop/CIA story's! Really need to keep this show as it's different and really getting better and better with each episode:)

    ReplyDelete
  41. The 1st half of the season I was a bit underwhelmed by SHIELD & it quickly moved to the "I'll catch up to it when I have time" pile of shows I have.

The last 3-4-5 episodes though, WOW. Its pushed its way back up to "must see it the same night" list, which is not a very long list. Most improved show of the year.

Somehow down the line the writers are going to build a redemption storyline for Ward. Cant have him being Hydra forever, and they aren't going to likely kill him off.

Something I wouldn't have believed around mid-season, but I am actually excited for the season finale.

it will be renewed as ABC is owned by Disney who also responsible for the marvel films.....

same here, i dont want Tripp to be part of the team !

  46. Oh I wonder if we are going to get a 'oh god we are going to die' moment between FitzSimmons next week, I remember Iain and Elizabeth talked about having a scene like that in their audition and it would be really nice to see that (even if it will break my heart). They will be ok that I'm sure off!

Anyway good episode, I'm glad the Ward flashbacks didn't take up too much time and that they didn't redeem him only showed how he became Garrett's second in command and also why Garrett went over to Hydra.

I like to think Fitz's denial about Ward and the debate that followed that is a nod towards the audience reaction to the reveal. You have the Ward apologists (Fitz) and the ones certain he is bad (May/Skye etc).

    ReplyDelete
  47. Totally agree about Fitz's reaction mirroring some of the fans (me included....)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Another top -notch episode; the show has hits its stride!

    ReplyDelete
  49. He can't have killed the dog... I know that he is strong but to run take the sniper rifler , position himself in the wood ,aim for Buddy and shoot , while in the same time , buddy ran away... technically impossible for a human being.
So , if the scene ( buddy murder ) take place after he and garret went off the wood , maybe ( a couple of days/hours ) , he might have killed buddy , But if the murder happened right he shot in the air , it is humanely impossible for him to have killed him

ps : sorry if there is mistakes, i'm still learning english

    ReplyDelete
  50. And, as such, it's brilliant, clearly written knowing the kinds of debates Ward's character will bring.

I still say Ward's story is going to be a major arc through several seasons. Redemption is slow. He won't be with Hydrda, but he won't be trusted by anyone else. He will be an independent who will show up from time to time helping Shield, who on the other hand won't trust him. He's sooooooooooo Spike.

    ReplyDelete
  51. We are left to think Ward threw Fitz and Simmons out in the water to kill them. But I think the reverse is true. He sent them off to save them. This way he can't shoot them.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Brett also said that he felt shocked and understood how betrayed all the other ACTORS felt when the betrayal was revealed. so I think he is talking as the actor Brett Dalton, he might be rooting for shield and a second season but Ward is Hydra through and through.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yeah that Tweet was just Brett standing by the show.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Fitz was amazing in this episode! So brave :') I love him.

Coulson's quips were the best!!! Especially the line about his bus, and the file transfer hehe.

THe whole buddy parallel was sooooooooooooo sad. I was afraid Garret would shoot him when we was teaching Ward his 'second lesson' but nope he made Ward to do it himself...just like his Ward's brother did!

I like how they were unclear about whether or not Ward shot Buddy... It gives us some hope at least. Maybe Ward was really helping Fitz/Simmons off the plane.

I'm glad they revealed a little more about Skye's past. Hopefully we'll find out more in the finale.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Weird... I thought I had posted a comment but I'm not sure what happened.

The gist of what I said was I'm kind of siding with May and Skye but at the same time I have to believe that the character is slated for a redemption arc.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I think you're probably on to something. And even as he's redeeming himself, there's zero chance that Coulson will accept him back anytime soon. That man really knows how to hold a grudge. Look how long he held his anger toward May for keeping Fury's secret about him. In contrast, that was nothing to what he's been up to.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Right, Coulson's grudge with May, however, I think had a secondary aspect to it: he really trusted her, more than Ward, and perhaps with some minor romantic interest (even if he has decided not to pursue it). So it was a greater personal betrayal than with Ward, but, on the other hand, he won't trust Ward for a long time until something extraordinary happens (like Spike getting a soul in Buffy).

    ReplyDelete
  58. Well I contrast Ward here with one of my favorite characters on a different show...Helena on Orphan Black. She was trained as an assassin and she killed several of the girls but at the same time, the show left several seeds planted that showed there was and is a chance at redemption. I can't help but look at how she was abused her whole life and how that formed her into what she became but how much she wants to have ties and connections.

I think that's kind of an apt parallel to Ward's situation...where he's been abused and shaped into an awful beast as well but that there might, like Helena, be a seed of something that needs to be nurtured. At the same time, for both of them...they need to make certain choices and have those Spike/Buffy moments to "prove" they're on the right track.

And I totally ship Coulson with May, not gonna lie. ;) I think she really cares for him and I think it's reciprocated even if they don't fully realize the feelings on screen. But it'd be nice if they did explore that one day. Ah, a girl can hope I guess. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think if it had been Garrett, we would have seen Garrett do it and Ward's reaction. The benefit in Garrett killing Buddy would only come if Ward saw it. Because everything seemed to be from Ward's memory...his POV...I got the distinct impression that he was the one remembering how he almost showed a moment of weakness by sparing Buddy and then like with Fitzsimmons, he pulled the literal and figurative trigger on both.

That was my initial interpretation of the moment but I'm open to alternate theories.

    ReplyDelete
  60. If they do go for redemption it has to be a very long road like over the course of several seasons. I don't think he can ever be 'good' again but maybe more willing to do the right thing.

    ReplyDelete
  61. It was mostly Ward's memories, but I believe the beginning, when Garrett was waiting for Ward and the end with the scope on the dog were Garrett's. If Ward had shot the dog, it wouldn't have been a weakness because in the end his orders prevailed. Just like in the end he didn't kill Fitz and Simmons.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I actually have to think more about Wesley in Angel. Although it is somehow predictable I do want a redemption for Ward, but it has to be a long arc, everything else would be silly after he has proven to be so ruthless.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I cannot help but wish Ward a therapy. He does not realize he is afraid to confront his own feelings. His twisted devotion(loyalty) to Garrett is actually the contrary of what he should have learned from him. Isn't his loyalty to Garrett part of what he calles weakness - not beeing able to cut himself loose from him? In every way Garrett is screwing with Ward and he is letting it happen and of course he does not want to see this. He has never learned to deal with his feelings. I did get the impression he subconsciously does not like beeing emotionally depending on Garret, but can't cut himself loose either. Confronted with his own feelings - killing FitzSimmons - instead of doing it "properly" he throws them out of the plane. Not actually killing them and maybe even give them a chance of survival thus pushing away a decision/confronting his inner conflict - the team/Sky or Garrett.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I felt exactly the same. I watched the first two episodes and liked it although I was a bit dissapointed. But this was due to the way too high expectations. Then I just catched up on each episode if there was nothing else to watch for me - up until episode TRACKS I was even bored. It started to get more interesting and since Winter Solider I am totally freaking addictet and I am making my husband watch from the start. At the beginning I never thought I would rewatch and enjoy a rewatch of S1, but now I am looking differntly at the episodes. Went to see Winter Soldier in the movies because of SHIELD although I did not plan to. So Marvles plan worked with me.....

    ReplyDelete
  65. I am wondering if they are going to play the the name of the series for next season.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I am fitzing and don't want to believe Ward killed the dog, but I agree that Garrett would not have taken Ward under his wing if he had not killed Buddy.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I don’t believe Ward shot the dog. I think Garrett was testing him to see if he would follow orders even when Garrett knew he wouldn’t want to. I always get the impression that Garrett doesn’t fully trust Ward, knowing that he couldn’t shoot the dog when ordered to could be what causes that distrust. Maybe that’s why Garrett has Mike shadowing Ward, to watch for signs of weakness, because after all Ward’s time at Sheild, Garrett knows Ward forms attachments, like Skye for example. If Ward hadn’t ejected that thing Fitz and Simmons were in they would have been dead, Garrett would have had someone else kill them, so as far as I’m concerned, Ward gave them a chance for survival. And while Ward did keep Garrett alive I repeatedly got the impression last night that Ward barely tolerated Garrett. Maybe his motive for keeping him alive comes from something other than a loyalty to a mentor. Maybe he’s playing Garrett to get info that we aren’t even aware of yet... We don’t know what Ward did between the early years to the present. Maybe Ward became part of another organization that we don’t know about. Something tied to Skye’s ancestors?

One thing I have discovered already watching this show is to not take everything at face value. Read between the lines. Expect the unexpected.

I don’t know, but I think Ward is part of a bigger picture. Villians come and go, if in 2 or 3 seasons this show is still fighting Garrett and Shield is still nonexistant....something is wrong. If Ward IS part of Hydra and it’s as cut and dry as people seem to think, then Ward will be gone within a season and Shield will have moved onto a bigger and badder villian...well, I won’t be watching. I’m not interested in watching the only character I got attached to be a raging lunatic for the rest of his storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I wonder what's up with Skye if the flower dress chick is correct, though I have to question the logic that she could see something in Skye's dna that Fitz and Simmons could not and that was even after they studied her every cell like hawks after her revival.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Don't kid yourself. Ward couldn't get into the room they were in, so dropping them out of the plane into the ocean was the only way to kill them. Plus, that box doesn't look like it'll float. The only chance FitzSimmons have is if someone comes to rescue them.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Angela .Visscher8 May 2014 at 01:11

Agree with everything you said, its like you read my mind! lol I dearly hope for a Ward redemption storyline, and like you he was the first character I really liked with his interactions with the other characters and if he leaves the show, my interest will go down. I still think Ward does care for them as you said he gave Fitz and Simmons a chance to survive. If they stayed Garrett would most surely have them killed. Love your thoughts that Ward could be with another group, who knows what happened between then and now!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I am fitzing - love that!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Now, THAT's how you do a freaking penultimate episode for the season. OMG times infinity! The finale is going to blow all of our minds, no doubt.

    ReplyDelete
  73. He still could have done it, because this is a just TV show.
