The Mentalist - Episode 6.17 - Silver Wings of Time - Review

NOTE: Please be advised that English is not my first language.

The Mentalist comes back after 2 weeks with a classic episode and a classic Jane - till you go to the end.

Patrick Jane needs to hurry up to save the life of a man who's been unjustly invicted to death. Jane and Edward, the doctor, both share the grief of their wifes. The only difference is Edward's moved on with his life; he married Mae, his former student, and they're happily (?) married for eleven years - curious about the fact that Jane and Lisbon have known each other for almost twelve years. When Jane asks Edward if he has ever thought about suicide, it's a clear reference to his own experience. Back when he killed Red John, he was looking at his gun as if he wanted to kill himself, and put an end to his life. Instead, Jane chose to live, deciding to deal with his conscience; Edward chose to live and chose life. Anyway, things went wrong for Edward and his wife, because it was revealed that Mae was behind the murder of Edward's first wife, an organized plan she made to be with him. Love is sick.

One of the funniest subplot was Wiley and his clock alarm. That damn computer informed everyone about the time every hour. That was hilarious. Fischer's reaction was precious. She literally jumped after hearing that sound from Wiley's laptop, then she did a second jump after hearing the alarm system. "They're fixing the alarm", says Wiley. I liked how basically everyone discuss about Jane and Lisbon. In the previous episode, Wiley has been asked by Pike if the two of them were romantically involved, now it's Fischer and Cho's turn to discuss. She asks him about Lisbon's new boyfriend and I guess she's curious about Jane's reaction to that. Cho simply replies in his way "My brain would explode (if he and I were discussing about Lisbon and Pike, I'd add.)" Cho doesn't like talking too much but I wonder if when the time will come, he'll be a good listener to Jane. Abbott is always a great surprise to me. He starts to like Jane's way to investigate and he let him do what he wants.

The second subplot is the 'triangle' Jane-Lisbon-Pike. First, Jane sees Lisbon coming to the crime scene in a cab. "Very cosmopolitan of you", which means it's not Lisbon's style. His question about her date with Agent Pike means Jane knew she spent the night with him. That's the first thing that hurts him. Second, the phone call. Lisbon and Pike are arranging something for the night, and it's clear that Jane feels like the third wheel. The last scene shows the complete picture of Jane and Lisbon's relationship so far. Jane is confused about his feeling for her 'friend'; he wants her to be happy, he asks if Pike is going to take her in someplace nice, because if Pike makes her happy, Jane is happy too, so he let her go. That's far from the Jane at the beginning of the series - the selfish man "Can't you see there are people who care about you?" [back in season one] seems to be gone. As for Lisbon, she's confused too. Dating a man who can make her happy is what every woman would dream. But how long can that perfect man make her happy? How long can Jane resist to watch Lisbon slipping away from him? Jane needs to make up his mind, and Lisbon needs to clear her heart. As I said before, love is sick and people do crazy things when they're in love.
Do you think Jane is jealous? Is Lisbon really happy with Pike? Share your comments below. Thanks to tumblr.com for the gifs.
