Today's Early Overnight Ratings

This table shows the early overnight ratings. These ratings are normally adjusted later in the day when all the ratings have been consolidated to take into account any local preemptions and/or overruns. You can find all the final adjusted numbers in our Ratings Database. (See the About section below for details about ratings)

If you are new to ratings or still confused, we recommend you read this excellent Ratings FAQ.

Wednesday 3/19/14 Metered Market Ratings
Respectable Sampling for New CW Drama “The 100”

Household
Rating/Share
Fox 6.7/11
CBS 6.4/10
NBC 3.9/ 6
ABC 2.7/ 4
CW 1.9/ 3

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Wednesday 3/20/13:
NBVC: +15, CW: + 6, CBS: – 4, ABC: -16, Fox: -23

———-

-Winners:
“Survivor” (CBS), “Criminal Minds” (CBS), “CSI” (CBS)

-Positive Sampling:
“The 100” (CW)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Mixology” (ABC)

———-

-Ratings Breakdown:
Fox led the Wednesday overnights care of a 6.7 rating/11 share for “American Idol” in households from 8-10 p.m. But that 6.7 was 23 percent below the 8.7/14 on the year-ago evening (which was already down by 25 percent from 2012). At this point, Fox must begin to consider life without “American Idol” and let it exit with some dignity.

“Survivor” on CBS, in contrast, has held up much better than “American Idol,” with a 5.9/10 in the overnights in the 8 p.m. hour. Comparably, that was only three percent below the year-ago evening, and it should be enough to dominate the time period in adults 18-49.

Next on CBS was “Criminal Minds” at a 6.7/10 from 9-10 p.m., which tied competing “American Idol” on Fox for dominance, followed by granddaddy “CSI” at a dominant 6.6/12 at 10 p.m.

In series-premiere news, CW drama “The 100” was sampled with a 1.9/ 3 in the overnights at 9 p.m., which increased from lead-in “Arrow” (#5: 1.8/ 3 at 8 p.m.) by six percent. Comparably, “The 100” built from year-ago occupant “Supernatural” (1.5/ 2 on 3/20/13) by 27 percent. Let’s see how the sampling was in the young adult demos, which should be positive.

Over at ABC, only recent sitcom entry “Mixology” was an original telecast and it dipped to a series-low 2.5/ 4 (#4) at 9:30 p.m. because of the weaker lead-in support from the “Modern Family” encore (#4: 3.9/ 6 at 9 p.m.). Comparably, that was a loss of 36 percent from “Modern Family.” Next was a repeat of sophomore drama “Nashville” at a mere 1.8/ 3 at 10 p.m., and encores of “The Middle” (#3: 3.5/ 6) and “Suburgatory” (#4: 2.9/ 5) populated the 8 p.m. hour.

NBC had nothing unusual to report, meanwhile, with its combination of dramas “Revolution” (#4: 3.2/ 5), “Law & Order: SVU” (#3: 4.4/ 7) and just renewed “Chicago PD” (#2: 4.0/ 7). Of note in this pivotal renewal/cancellation time was growth for “Revolution” from year-ago sitcom “Whitney” (two episodes – original and repeat: avg. 2.2/ 4 on 3/20/13) of 33 percent.

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). 1. Let's hope this means positive ratings for The 100!

    ReplyDelete
  2. I wasn't expecting to like The 100 but I did, so hopefully the next weeks things will just get better

    ReplyDelete
  3. This is the strongest CW overnight launch of the season though. And not all shows start well (Star-Crossed did like a 1.1 ;))

The Goldbergs is the only new ABC sitcom that seems to be able to be completely lead-in Independent. Ironically, it seems to do a little bit better when SHIELD isn't new. lol That said, I imagine putting it with other compatible sitcoms would help it.

    ReplyDelete
  5. What was the launch for SPN and TO?

    ReplyDelete
  6. 9th October 2013
    The Originals 1.3/2
    Supernatural 1.5/2
The problem is that, unfortunately, Arrow skews older.

    ReplyDelete
  7. YASSSSS THE 100! Hopefully, it won't drop too much next week (or it can increase. Hey, a man can dream.). :D

    ReplyDelete
  8. I meant that they start strong because people are curious to see how the show is. But if the show isn't that good, the ratings will start to go down week after week. People lose interest. I didn't watch The 100 but I'll do it on weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  9. You could just say comedy instead of 20 minute tv show.

    ReplyDelete
  10. The pilot of The 100 was pretty good and it looks like the demo are gonna be as well.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'd guess 0.8 or 0.9 for both

    ReplyDelete
  12. if it skews the same as Arrow could be an 0.7 , on March 6 arrow had a 1.9 hh and 0.7 demo

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yeah, to be honest, I thought about writing 0.7 for Arrow, because I was just looking up how did Arrow do, but when TTP had the 0.9 it also had 1.9/3 hh

    ReplyDelete
  14. And as such, very bad indeed for TTP. Sigh. Yeah, I'm kind of in denial about TTP not standing much of a chance anyway. Even if The 100 flops, that's unlikely to help it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Me too! Liv is turning out to be my favorite character. Loving the show so far and how it's not all about successful turn outs for the pairings

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hope Survivor can manage to get a high 2's throughout the season. Best Season ever since Heroes VS Villains!

    ReplyDelete
  17. It looks good for The 100 but we need to wait for demo. I am extremely annoyed that Arrow doesn't seem to go up. It's been amazing lately.

    ReplyDelete
  18. 0.8 Arrow
    0.7 T100

    ReplyDelete
  19. thats a guess or a fact?

    ReplyDelete
  20. sorry thats a guess

    ReplyDelete
  21. I wish Arrow skewed younger, because with the total viewers it gets, it could have been/could be the strongest Cw series.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Right? I liked Season 1 but i didnt love it like most of its fans, but Season 2 is just amazing, probably in Top3/5 shows for me Right Now

    ReplyDelete
  23. what was the HH rating for TTP premier?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Last season Supernatural skewed younger than Arrow. I hope The 100 will follow Supernatural's road.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yes I agree. Season 1 was okay for me, but Season 2 turned Arrow into one of my favorite shows and I watch A LOT of shows!

    ReplyDelete
  26. in the fall it skewed more younger and male. But after coming back in 2014 it hasn't managed to get those kind of ratings again.

    ReplyDelete
  27. IMO, The Goldbergs does better when New Girl isn't new. Shield being on or not has little to do with it. It's clearly much more affected by New Girl than it is by its lead-in.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The Promise episode was awful and frustrating - I was not surprised it got a series low. I didn't watch this new episode yet, hopefully it's better

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am being quite pessamistic here, it will likely come in higher as will Arrow. I really dont know how T100 will skew. My first guess would be similar to Arrow.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 1) It was a really good episode.
    2) Even if it was bad, that wouldn't be the reason behind the series low as people didn't the how good the episode would be beforehand.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes, it did, but the season premiere obtained a rating of 0.9 with 2.74 mil viewers (9 October 2013), while Supernatural, for example, obtained a rating of 1.2 with 2.76 mil viewers (28 January 2014). That shows that Arrow skews old in general.

Thanks for your comment, it's nice to exchange opinions :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am slowly facing the fact that w might not get a 2nd season, even if they EP keeps saying that it will.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Lol yeah it skews older if you look 18-49 numbers. The number where it excelled in the fall was the male 18-34 demos. It would get from 1.3-1.6 and would usually win the hour in that demo. Now it fallen to 0.8-1.0.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think I might have asked you before, but is there any sites that post the male demos regurlarly?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Why? If Supernatural can get 1.0's and 1.1's from a 1.5 why couldn't The 100 get a 1.0 from a 1.9?

    ReplyDelete
  36. The 100 premiere was ok, a bit slow. Last scene (impaled/we're not alone) had been long ruined through past promos. Clips of future eps look to be more action-packed. I liked it well enough and will continue to watch. Big test will be (as usual) the 2nd ep.

    ReplyDelete
  37. the A18-34, and W18-34 are usually posted with finals on marc bermans forum, and sometimes networks put M18-34 demos into press releases when ratings are very good. Joe Adalian sometimes post some 18-34 demos on his twitter.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I was expecting more from the confront between Slade and Oliver, it end up looking almost like a filler episode for me.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ditto. They learned from season 1 and improved everything! Hope Shield learns from their mistakes in season 2.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I swear I don't understand those EPs who spend an entire season with bad ratings in denial of cancellation, instead of planning closure for the fans.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yeah me too. Barely any Arrow. Was also disappointed that Harley didn't make it out of her cell.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sounds great for The 100 and for Arrow why dont you go up pleaseeee... well i will watch Mixology while it lasts

    ReplyDelete
  43. i'm more towards Arrow skews younger rather than older.

    ReplyDelete
  44. 0.9 is very good, I'll check the pilot out

    ReplyDelete
  45. Damn, The 100 beat Arrow. Didn't see that coming, didja now?

    ReplyDelete
  46. .9 for 100 nice. .8 for Arrow...sigh it use do 1+. It really deserves it this season. I don't understand the ratings slide.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ratings usually drop in the spring.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Unfortunately Arrow was dropping long before the spring though.

    ReplyDelete
  49. It dropped before spring

    ReplyDelete
  50. Whoa at The 100 having better ratings than Arrow!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yeah, he's clearly full of crap. When cancellation is such a looming possibility, TPTB should be wrapping up loose ends so the season finale will serve as a potential series finale; Nikita did this well in the first 2 seasons, although it ended up not being needed, thankfully. Instead, he's acting as if writing a lot of cliffhangers will make the network renew his show for the sake of the fans. Someone should send him a Secret Circle DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yay about The 100 :) it's amazing that it grew from Arrow (I wish Arrow was higher).
I know it's hard, but I hope The 100 will be able to stay stable.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Happy about the 100 ratings...hope its stay like that...really enjoyed the show

    ReplyDelete
  54. So sad to see Idol ruined

    ReplyDelete
  55. Because there is no relation b/w the HH and A18-49 ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Go The 100 :) 0.9 is a good start. Total viewers will show if it skewed/skews younger than Arrow (I really hope so).

    ReplyDelete
  57. A new CW show beating many of ABC scripted dramas this season? Didn't see that coming ... :-)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Actually, I did see that coming.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Did Berman have some kind of typo? Did Arrow really drop to a 0.6?!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Series low for CPD, oh =(

    ReplyDelete
  62. Noo...why so low for CPD yesterday was really good...i mean every week its amazing

    ReplyDelete
  63. Looks like a typo to me. I'll see if we can get the actual numbers direct from Nielsen later.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Well I gotta say I LOVED The 100 premiere. By the trailers It didnt really took my attention I found it weird but I really loved it! This season on The CW I was a bit suprised I didnt like Reign by the trailers then after watching the pilot I Loved itt! I was really looking foward to The Tomorrow People and now I really hope it gets cancelled....I really hope they renewed The 100 and Star-Crossed...... And for ARROW this season hasnt been good last night episode was pretty bad...for me ever since sarah is back the storylines arent good!!! But Im still a HUGE fan of Arrow!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Hmmm I only watched the 100 out of curiosity ... Won't be watching it further ... Didn't like the concept ... Reminds me too much of Lost (one of my fave shows btw) !

    ReplyDelete
  66. I was thinking the same thing, Arrow at a .6 no way.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Really? I love Arrow this season, as well as Sara! Caity Canary!

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm stunned that The 100 outdid Arrow. The CW must be unable to contain their excitement right now. Of course, TTP started with 0.9 too... only time will tell what happens with The 100. But it does seem to have potential.

    ReplyDelete
  69. This season has been fantastic a huge step forward in comparison to last season. And Sara has become my favorite character behind Oliver.

    ReplyDelete
  70. It's incredibile, but it skewed a little bit old. Hopefully it won't lose too many under 49 viewers on the next weeks (we know tv shows almost always lose viewers after the series premiere).

    ReplyDelete
  71. Slytherin Sister20 March 2014 at 15:34

How can you be a HUGE fan of something's you don't think is good????

    ReplyDelete
  72. Slytherin Sister20 March 2014 at 15:35

Aaron is doing fine. People need to calm the fuck down. It already got renewed.

    ReplyDelete
  73. And that too when total viewers have increased!!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. There we have it ladies and gentlemen, series low for Revolution

    ReplyDelete
  75. Eidnoreid Pills20 March 2014 at 15:38

It seems like they got it mixed up with a .9

    ReplyDelete
  76. I am so sad right now. I think its really pending to likely cancellation now.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Should be fixed now. It was a .8

    ReplyDelete
  78. People still want it to do good in the ratings. And if there is a visible fall in one of Arrows key demos, it might have an impact on Arrow for the next year. They could have for example their budget cut.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Yeah Berman updated his site saying the half hour for Arrow was wrong and it was 0.8 not 0.6 lol

    ReplyDelete
  80. Did you stop watching lost because it reminded you of Lord of the flies?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Wow, I never thought The 100 would actually BUILD from Arrow. That's an achievement. I'm shocked.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Hating one or two episodes is not going to change the fact that i love the show!!! Its my opinion I found it that this seasons its slowling down...same goes to Vampire Diaries I love the show but the storyline with katherine was BAD not all seasons can satisfy everybody....

    ReplyDelete
  83. Cheers! That makes much more sense now haha

    ReplyDelete
  84. I know, but it's never a good thing for a show you like

    ReplyDelete
  85. I'd think they might wonder why Arrow isn't doing a little better.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I know what you mean.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I am as well , if they do cancel it i hope they don't leave it on a huge cliffhanger.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Im Really pleased for the 100 the first episode was much better than what i was expecting so will be 100% watching next week , very sad for revolution as its a great show but as NBC just renewed Grimm , Chicago Fire and PD its not looking good.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I want to be happy for T100 but I'm a TTP viewer, and this kind of puts the final nail in TTP's coffin :/ not that I think it's likely to get renewed even if T100 ends up crashing and burning, but T100's success will doom it completely.

    ReplyDelete
  90. No drop in A18-49 for The 100's both half-hours and only a minimum drop in audience. Those numbers please me!

    ReplyDelete
  91. True, but at least it picked up from its last outing (unless it gets adjusted down, eek).

    ReplyDelete
  92. Haha no, cause I've never watched LOTF ;)

    ReplyDelete
  93. I also like The Tomorrow People, so I know what you mean.
Unfortunately things didn't go well for The Tomorrow People (I wish the writers could understand that the season finale will probably be a series finale, so a cliffhanger wouldn't be needed/loved), while I think The 100 has chances of renewal, if it won't fall hard.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I would love an upwards adjustments. Revolution needs it more though.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yeah, I think it's something nice to see, but half-hours can be deceiving. Resurrection's half hours (series premiere) were great and still it decreased a lot (the losing of viewers was expected, but the rating went from 3.8 to 3.1 in 1 week).

    ReplyDelete
  96. I highly suggest you read it. It may be 60 years old but it's a classic for a reason. If you liked lost I'm sure you will like LOTF. But my point was, pretty much most shows these days have similarities to stuff that came before you, you shouldn't stop watching something because it is loosely similar to something else, especially when that something else is also similar to something that came before that.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I'll give it a try one day.

And you're indeed right , everything is similar these days. But this isn't just because of lost, the show didn't capture me ... :/

    ReplyDelete
  98. It doesn't surprise me. The contestants this season are underwhelming and inconsistent.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Yay for The 100!

    ReplyDelete
  100. question - if the 100 fails (which i dont think it will but lets just assume it will) why would TTP not get renewed?

    ReplyDelete
  101. CW press release:

THE 100 built on its ARROW lead-in by 13% in total viewers, and by 13% in A18-49 (0.9/3). It held 88% of its lead-in in A18-34 (0.7/2). THE 100 is the first show to build on its ARROW lead-in in the hour in total viewers.

Also last night, ARROW hit hard with the Suicide Squad in Starling City last night, and gained 7% week to week in total viewers (2.4M), +17% in A18-34 (0.8/3), +13% in M18-34 (0.9/4), and +14% in A18-49 (0.8/3).

ARROW tied both ABC and NBC in the hour in A18-34.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Yeah but still... I do like the judges and the format as a whole

    ReplyDelete
  103. The CW has 10 hours in its Monday-Friday schedule. Currently, those hours are filled with:
    - TVD
    - Arrow
    - The Originals
    - Supernatural
    - Reign
    - Newbie #1
    - Newbie #2
    - Newbie #3
    - Hart of Dixie (which will be renewed baring a collapse of epic proportions on Fridays)
    - America's Next Top Model/ Whose Line Is It Anyway? rotation

Which makes 10 hours. So they will only renew another show if it has worthy numbers that justify moving the Top Model/Whose Line rotation to summer. The 100 appears, so far ,to have what it takes for that to happen. The Tomorrow People is pulling numbers compared to what Top Model and Whose Line? do on Fridays for a much cheaper price, so it will not be renewed.

Because will pick up four to six new shows and with ANTM rened taking a partial fall slot,HoD almost certain to be renewed for syndication and Arrow,TO,SPN,VD,Reign also renewed that's 6-7 slots filled without new shows.Theres no room for the TTP even if the 100?fails.Also,TTP has gotten two 0.4s in its first season, that's too low for renewal cause it would fall more next season if renewed and with CW having an up season, they don't need to and shouldn't renew anything below what's already renewed except HoD for syndication.

I would be surprised if New Girl had much of any influence either way on The Goldbergs. And I agree that SHIELD doesn't have anything to do with it. I just noted a small irony. But lead-in CAN matter. We have a good idea at what size audience The Goldbergs pulls on it's own, but I think it'd do even better if not out alone in a schedule wasteland. It'd most likely fit MUCH better with The Middle/Modern Family. It proved this when they aired a rerun there. So next season, they should definitely move it to Wednesdays, probably after The Middle or Modern Family. They should just cut their losses with the Tuesday comedy hour.

  110. I sign off on what omabin said. It'll take a miracle for TTP to come back, sadly.

  111. "Also last night, ARROW hit hard with the Suicide Squad in Starling City last night" - they said "last night" twice in the same sentence? Doesn't anyone proof-read those press releases? Jeez.

  112. I'm anxious to see the ratings next week. That'll be a big test (and the following few weeks).

  113. The 100 started really strong. Quite interesting. If this translates well it could mean an end for SC and TTP but the next 4-5 weeks will be crucial especially when it airs withaout an lead in.

  114. Seems to be a good start for The 100 :) I hope it will be confirmed when the ratings will be released, and I also hope that The 100 will be able (somehow) to skew younger than Arrow.
Arrow is the first Cw show when it comes to total viewers, but they are older than the viewers of The Vampire Diaries, The Originals and Supernatural.

  115. I am really enjoying Mixology TBH, that hand underwear bit had me laughing so heard. Love Liv.

  116. But too bad for Mixology, it is definitely one of the best new 20 minutes tv shows this year

  117. Hopefully that translates well for The 100.

  118. Oh, I hope this translates to good ratings for The 100 but who knows.

  119. It's a good start for The 100, but all the shows start. We'll have to see in the nest weeks how it goes. And Fox should really consider finished American Idol. The show lost its charm.

  120. Seems like it could be around 1.0 for The 100, right?
