The Walking Dead 4.12 "Still" Preview: A Boy and A Girl Run Into the Woods...
2 Mar 2014
Reviews The Walking DeadThis week’s episode of The Walking Dead, “Still,” was written by Angela Kang and directed by Julius Ramsey. Kang’s last episode was this season’s “Infected.” Ramsey is primarily known as an editor, having served in that capacity on the show since the first season. He also worked on Flash Forward and Battlestar Galactica. This episode is his directorial debut on the show, and he does a brilliant job. The episode is beautifully shot and paced and features terrific performances from Norman Reedus (Daryl) and Emily Kinney (Beth).
This week’s episode also features the terrific writing that is such a hallmark of the series. Once again the title of the episode resonates throughout it. The official synopsis for the episode is that “Daryl and Beth struggle with overwhelming odds in the search for safety.” The episode centers around a quest of sorts and contains a few interesting revelations. For those of you who have been yearning for more information about Daryl, you will not want to miss this episode.
It would seem that no two other characters on the show could be more polar opposite than Daryl and Beth, so it is interesting to see what they bring out in each other in this episode. If you generally eat while watching the show, I would recommend not eating during the first five or ten minutes this week. The episode is very interestingly structured with most of the action taking place early on.
It’s always a bit unfortunate for a show to have to air opposite the Academy Awards. I’d seriously recommend that you tape the middle bit of the Oscars while you watch this episode live – you aren’t going to want to wait for this one.
Will you be watching live? Are you worried about Daryl and Beth being so isolated and having only each other to rely on? Let me know what you are most hoping to see in this episode in the comments below! Be sure to check out the sneak peeks for the episode here and here.
And don’t miss an all new The Walking Dead in the UK on Monday, March 3 at 9pm on FOX and FOX HD, and in the US this Sunday at 9pm on AMC.

Check SpoiltheDead. Their quest is to get Beth drunk. They play "I Never" and get wasted. Daryl's been to jail (surprise, surprise) and never traveled and followed Merle like the little beta that he is. Then they burn a house down and flip it off. Like the mature 40+ year old Daryl is. Beth I can excuse 'cause she's just a teenager - sucks for her she doesn't get better character development than daddy wouldn't let her drink and she knows she's gonna die. Meanwhile, none of the pressing questions/mysteries of the show are even brought up or addressed.
ReplyDeleteI need to know is the episode rlly about
ReplyDelete*spoilers*
finding beth something to drink..??
Hope you enjoyed this episode as much as I did.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely cannot wait to see this episode! So happy to see more of Beth
ReplyDeleteNR tweeted about the episode "Just watched next weeks episode. AMAZING!!!!!! BETH (so good!!!))"
ReplyDeleteI'm very curious. Especially I can't wait to see what happens at the end of that car trunk scene.
All I will say about the ending is that it is pure Norman Reedus!
ReplyDeleteIt was fantastic. The writing and character development on this show is just stunning. So, so good!
ReplyDeleteWatching Daryl with Beth is as exciting as taking out the garbage and why tptb are making Daryl a pedophile is beyond my comprehension so why watch ?
ReplyDeleteThis is the season of one-word titles, and no, I don't generally eat while watching The Walking Dead. I learned early on that it's a bad idea. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this, and I've been planning all along to record the Oscars. Afterward, I'll fast forward through them to see the dresses, then delete.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what I like to do!
ReplyDeleteIf you like Daryl, you will want to watch...
ReplyDeleteI will take your word on that but sheesh out all all the females why stick Daryl with the most bland one ?
ReplyDeleteFuck Daryl, I hope he dies soon.
ReplyDeleteAbraham is better than Daryl.
Don't fuck Abraham like they did with Tyresse and Andrea.
Kill off Darline!!!!!
This episode may change your mind - but there is a good reason...
ReplyDeleteChange my mind about Beth ? Sorry do not think so . I have not liked Beth from her intro and I always find her extremely boring to watch so not even Daryl can make me like her ! if Daryl had been with Carol I would atl least looked forward seeing this episode but nothing about Beth is interesting to me so ,,,
ReplyDelete"This week’s episode also features the terrific writing that is such a hallmark of the series."
ReplyDeletelol
Thanks for the peek! Lookinf forward to it!
ReplyDeleteDoes anything at all plot-relevant happen? At this point just randomly stopping when there's so much other stuff going on and we're so close to the end of the season just makes me feel iffy. Makes me feel kinda worried too about everyone elses storylines. Will they all be rushed as a result of this Sunday's time-wasting?
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa ! Great preview :)
ReplyDeleteI like Beth (she's not a lead character and that's fine with me - I like that not every woman on the show is a bad-ass zombie killer), but I'm so tired of all the shipping wars and I just wish they hadn't put her near Daryl, because the hate for her is through the roof now. I hope this episode won't have any hookups.
ReplyDeleteDaryl is one of my favorite characters so I know I will love this episode. Last week I got insight into Michonne and some great development between her and Carl and this week I get a great Daryl episode! I'm so excited that my two favorite characters are getting development. Now I just wish they would get an episode together!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteIf Carol is not mentioned during this episode, it's just plain wrong. She should be. Daryl would be missing her among the most of the people lost.
ReplyDeleteI guess that depends on why you watch. I felt it was very relevant and came at a point where it needed too.
ReplyDeleteI think people will change their mind after watching... Shipping wars are the bane of my existence - I can only imagine how horrible they are for the actors.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to LOVE this episode... (I hope!) Drop by my review afterwards and let me know what you thought!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review. Judging from the comments, some of you liked it. Truth be told, I am least excited about this episode - and just to be clear, am not a rabid Caryl shipper and I even like Beth.
ReplyDeleteWhy spend the whole time with one group? The other two groups are also interesting - Maggie, Sasha and Bob; Tyreese. Carol and the kids. If 4.13 is dedicated to these two groups, then what about Rick et al and Glenn and Abraham.? These gaps between seeing and not seeing characters has really put me off this half of the season.
4.10 and 4.12 - that's two out of the back 8 episodes that Rick (Michonne and Carl) is already not in. IMHO, that is just foolish.
I get that Scott Gimple is carrying on with episodes like 'Clear' (from S3) focusing on only some characters but again, IMHO, he is overdoing it. What's the cohesive story of the back 8? The one that ties all the characters together? This just feels like following different stories at a time while completely forgetting the others. This has created a dissonance and really brought down my excitement.
TL; DR: Season 4b infected with 'Clear-itis'. Too much of something is not always good.
I seriously doubt that Daryl wants Carol to be there when he makes love with Beth in a car trunk.
ReplyDeleteL-M-A-O. Oh right, of course.
ReplyDeleteAnd honestly, was it really necessary to comment? You're trying to start something and I'm not biting. bye.
In my opinion it is a nice alternation when some of the characters have their own stories. It makes me curious how the reunions will play out after some facts and some relationships changed. Daryl could fill a complete Spin-Off. It was almost time for a Daryl-episode.and a relationship to a woman who is going to change him. Before this season started I never thought that this woman could be Beth. But now I'm really excited about it to happen
ReplyDeleteI guess that most actors laugh about shipping wars as long as actors are not confused with their characters. "Thank God" in TWD characters are not alive long enough for endless shipping wars. It seems very likely that neither Beth nor Carol will survive until the end of season 5. So in some way shipping is senseless in TWD. A love relationship between Daryl and Beth is synonymous with the authors imposing the death sentence of Beth. Only Rick/Michonne-shippers don't have to fear that this relationship causes Michonne's fast death because Rick has already lost his first big love.
ReplyDeleteDaryl and Michonne shippers don't have to worry about that either. I can't see them killing Daryl or Michonne anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty excited for this episode. I will definitely read the review and share my reaction to the episode.
ReplyDeleteWell, that's right. I really would have liked if they would have gone that way. (Even after a tragic Bethyl-romance) But since Andrea (who is Rick's Comic-girlfriend) died it was very probably that Michonne will become Lori's successor. Now they're obviously "preparing" Rick and Michonne for their love story. Looking forward to season 6 there is (if Beth and Glenn would be dead) also the possibility that Daryl and Maggie will fall in love.
ReplyDeleteWho wouldn't want a taste of liquor when the world's gone to shit?
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. While I love character development and Daryl, I'm just not sure this episode required a seemingly full 42 minutes of it - and nothing else. Perhaps there's more than meets the eye so I'll watch before I judge but I'm also one who isn't a great fan of the episodes that concentrate on one or two characters at a time. I feel disconnected from the story when it's done like this.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, I think everything will come together at the end but all the while we wait for it, I feel like we're floating adrift keeping all these balls in the air and being forced to recall exact dialogues and events from 3/4 episodes prior regarding stories/characters that don't pick up again until later. I prefer the episodes that feature the ensemble, or at least more of the ensemble.
I don't care for her either. She isn't a character I have ever been interested in knowing more about in any way. If the writers try to make a romance between Beth and Daryl I hate to say it but I will lose a lot of respect for the writers, and Robert Kirkman for it.
ReplyDeleteMichonne's popular enough and important enough to the story that I'm not worried about her dying, but if there's ever any Rick/Michonne/Daryl or Daryl/Michonne story, I'm worried about what would happen with fan reaction.
ReplyDelete(I ship Rick/Michonne but I'm not sure the show will actually do it, especially with some of the annoying comments on Talking Dead last week reminding us that Michonne isn't Carl's mother [which she has never tried to be, BTW] and Michonne is "scary" - ugh).
With Daryl shipping wars it can get personal because some fans think Norman Reedus prefers one pairing or the other, and that starts to make me think, "This may not end well." I guess the actors might be better off if the shows tell them never to comment on pairings, but then that might anger and alienate fans too. I don't know.
I hope so. I like Beth, and I like Daryl, so this could be a great episode.
ReplyDeleteHow or where did all u see the . Episode at?? Please, please, please give me the link
ReplyDeleteNetworks send out screeners to various TV sites.
ReplyDeleteThe plot for season 4 B is very clearly how everyone survives/gets back together... I highly doubt they will all end up together by the end of season 4 but seeing as Rick, carl and Michonne are heading the same way as Tyresse and carol its clear they will meet... However we are yet to know where Maggie is heading and we know glenn is going back to the prison/bus..... I am enjoy the plot at the moment as its good for different people to get more screen time each episode. How is this sundays episode time wasting... its the story of daryl and beth and how they are surviving/ what they are doing.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you both @Stuart Cooper and @Lisa
ReplyDeleteI think you're jumping to conclusions
ReplyDeleteVery well said!
ReplyDeleteThere's shipping and then there's "shipping" - I do it for fun too. I mean, why watch if you have no vested interest in the characters, but I don't freak out when the writers want to take their story in a different direction. I mean, I became invested in the characters that they created and the story that they wrote. But there are many fans that don't seem to separate reality from fiction and that's when it gets nasty and ridiculous. Sorry. I guess I'm ranting a bit - LOL - but this is an issue about which I feel strongly.
ReplyDeleteIt's quite revealing about both of them.... I hope you'll come back for my review and let me know what you thought...
ReplyDeleteSorry, as Babar said no link. The screeners are a courtesy from the networks. But it's on tonight at 9 on AMC in the US!
ReplyDeletei like the fact that Fox everywhere dont want to wait much longer to air TWD here in my country is Mondays at 9 too...
ReplyDeleteThe promos for this episode are really good i cant wait to see it... Beth and Daryl are completely different the last episode they were together i loved their dinamics and that both are trying to understand the other in the situation they are now...
I wonder if the finale is gonna be the four groups reuniting on that shelter following the rails cause the pace is going a little bit slow with the episodes going into the groups.
I know what you mean. It gets to a point where I'm scared if any actor I like is on social media, because it does not end well.
ReplyDeleteUm yea....not gonna happen lol!
ReplyDeleteThat will only happen in your fanfics, Norman already said nothing romantic happens between them. The writers did say Caro's banishment will be weighing on his mind the whole time he's out there and he's not done talking to Rick about it.
