CW 1.5/ 2

-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Thursday 3/07/13:
CW: +87, ABC: +55, NBC: + 5, CBS: -20, Fox: -41

—–

-Winners:
“The Big Bang Theory” (CBS), “Two and a Half” (CBS), “Grey’s Anatomy” (ABC), “Scandal” (ABC)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” (ABC), “Community” (NBC), “Parks and Recreation” (NBC), “The Crazy Ones” (CBS), “Hollywood Game Night” (NBC), “Rake” (Fox), “Parenthood” (NBC)

Ratings Breakdown:
CBS remained the network to beat on Thursday thanks to “The Big Bang Theory,” which topped the night with an 11.6 rating/19 share in the household overnights. And while lead-out “The Millers” is the top-rated new sitcom of the season, the 7.1/11 at 8:30 p.m. last night was 39 percent below “The Big Bang Theory.” While no one expects “The Millers” to maintain the “Big Bang” audience, this is steep. Too bad Nathan (Will Arnett) did not leave his annoying TV Mama (Margo Martindale) on that island. The two of them on vacation together…really???

CBS moving “Two and a Half Men” to 9 p.m. has been beneficial to the veteran comedy, which won the half-hour with a 6.7/10. But relocated lead-out “The Crazy Ones” slipped to a series-low (and second place) 4.4/ 7 at 9:30 p.m., which does not bode well for a potential second season renewal. Sophomore drama “Elementary” perked up to a 5.6/10 in the overnights at 10 p.m., which finished second behind “Scandal” on ABC (6.1/11). And “Scandal,” no doubt, will have a much larger advantage in the key demographics.

If CBS does decide to move “The Big Bang Theory” back to Monday, “Two and a Half Men” leading off Thursday may not be the worst idea. And if it does return, “Two and a Half Men” will tie “My Three Sons” as the second longest running live action sitcom historically behind “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet.”

Earlier in the evening on ABC was the return of “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland” at a dismal 2.2/ 4 (#3) at 8 p.m. And it led into veteran “Grey’s Anatomy” at a still renewable 6.2/10 from 9-10 p.m. (#1 overall in the hour).

On Fox, deteriorating “American Idol” opened with a second-place 6.7/11 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m., which was 23 percent below the 8.7/14 on the year-ago evening. And it led into failing recent entry “Rake” at a distant third-place 2.4/ 4 from 9-10 p.m. As a reminder, “Rake” will move to Fridays at 8 p.m. beginning on March 14 (into current comedies “Enlisted” and “Raising Hope”), which will likely make the ratings even worse.

Elsewhere, NBC remained the definition of “Must Flee” TV with its low-rated combination of “Community” (#4: 1.9/ 3), “Parks and Recreation” (#4: 1.9/ 3), relocated “Hollywood Game Night” (#4: 2.2/ 4) and “Parenthood” (#3: 2.5/ 4). And announcing an early renewal for “Parks and Recreation” will not help struggling Thursday on the network next season. The CW, meanwhile, was on par with typical levels care of “The Vampire Diaries” (#5: 1.7/ 3) and “Reign” (#5: 1.3/ 2).

About the Daily Ratings

Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

I know CBS is benefiting overall from the swap of 2.5 Men and TCO, and that's their goal, but I worry for Elementary going into the traditionally soft spring. Even a couple tenths make a big difference. I know POI and CSI didn't do very well this week either, but I'm not loving the switch from an Elementary fan perspective.

(And I know Elementary is safe. Moonves isn't going to throw away 3 million an episode. I just hate that this show can never quite gain a leg-up. It's really good TV. 2.5 Men's growth is a win for CBS, but a loss for humanity, lol.)

  2. Oh man, OUAT in Wonderland keeps going lower and lower
I thought that the hiatus would've helped the series but it didn't at all.
It seems good for Reign compared to TTP

    ReplyDelete
  3. Move Back POI to Thursday CBS

    ReplyDelete
  4. NBC should really consider moving Hollywood Game Night to 8 and Community/Parks & Rec to 9 and 9:30 so the sitcoms won't get affected by DST and not have to go up against Idol and TBBT.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Nice for TAHM, in 2-3 weeks it could even build up from The Millers (as it did with the Crazy Ones).

    ReplyDelete
  6. Elementary isn't going anywhere because its a CBS show and it just got a big syndication deal. They have additional 2 seasons guarantied.
CBS works always well with multi-camera sitcoms, the way they used TCO in the middle of multi-camera sitcoms was really bad. It was never really gonna work.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Not gonna happen. After Mentalist ends it will probably be send to Sundays.

    ReplyDelete
  8. TVD back to normal - finally. Reign up - yay.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Was Marc Berman always this bitter and mean-spirited? I'm not even a fan of the shows that were doing poorly today and his comments still made me cringe. Is he the only person who reports ratings?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Devon Maxwell-Pierce7 March 2014 at 15:01

Maybe it'll be reunited with Elementary. That was a good night of TV.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The thought of 2AAHM going anywhere near the record of My Three Sons or Ozzie and Harriet makes me feel a little sad.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Elementary will probably be more protected i think. Its CBS s baby. But with POI they will bring it to 4th season and then they will see if its beneficial for them to keep airing it. Depends how low Warner Brothers will go.

    ReplyDelete
  13. EuphemiaWonderland7 March 2014 at 15:16

He is always like that. Especially with the tv shows he hates.

    ReplyDelete
  14. He's awful, mean-spirited, and most of the time, doesn't even really know what he's talking about. From what I've seen, he's typically wrong when predicting what will be renewed and what will be canceled. Also, he lacks the ability to put things in perspective. Most (but not all) broadcast shows are down year over year, but he only calls that out for the shows that he hates. I prefer TVbythenumbers for the actual ratings analysis and renewal predictions, but I come here too because I like the community and the commenters.

    ReplyDelete
  15. He seems to have a hard on for most CBS shows though.

    ReplyDelete
  16. But the ratings will go down for the next episode. If you've seen the last night's ep, you'll know to what I'm referring to.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm actually worried for Scandal :/

    ReplyDelete
  18. Remember, however, that Idol will get moved to 9 p.m. later this season

    ReplyDelete
  19. Reign will be around 0.6?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Devon Maxwell-Pierce7 March 2014 at 15:49

Why? I still think it'll it 3.0. Maybe a bit below, but despite the negativity of the fan blogs/online comments, etc, it's still doing remarkably steady numbers.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Grey's is more dangerous than Idol these days you know

    ReplyDelete
  22. Pablo Troncoso7 March 2014 at 16:13

Scandal down to 2.8. That's still a great rating, but I believed it would do something around 3s

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah, same here. Wondered what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Crazy Ones are dead. 1.7 is just too low

    ReplyDelete
  25. Fierce & Sassy7 March 2014 at 16:17

2.8 is still great, nonetheless. ABC is still jumping up for joy. All shows fall, at some point. Next week it'll rebound with the juicy new promo advertising and alluding to something BIG is gonna happen towards the end of the episode, which will no doubt rise.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Maria Ferreira7 March 2014 at 16:17

Actually, almost everything was down this week...a low week for some reason, maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Reign....finally 0.7 !!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. 0.7 for Reign! Aaah!

    ReplyDelete
  29. 0.7 for Reign! Please don't adjust down!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Does anyone know that if Wonderland stays at 0.8 and Resuurection flops, Lucky 7 could end up as the secong highest rated new drama on ABC this year? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  31. Devon Maxwell-Pierce7 March 2014 at 16:22

Yeah, but a seven-tenths drop week-to-week seems a little extreme. Elementary, as mediocrely-rated as it is, actually went up a tenth. All CBS dramas were meh this week, though. POI and CSI both did 1.7s.

    ReplyDelete
  32. WOW 0.7 for Reign, that is 0.3 more than TTP and its even with Arrow :O WOW, Im so happy, it deserves it :) (I watch TTP & Arrow too and im disappointed they are decreasing)

    ReplyDelete
  33. wow thats craptastic for ABC but I'm not suprised given the quality of their freshman pack this year

    ReplyDelete
  34. It wasn't a seven tenth drop. It was a sixth tenth drop and Scandal has rebounded from drops.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Woohoo! Reign is up two tenths from last week! I guess all the hype paid off.

    ReplyDelete
  36. it was a good episode and a highly anticipated one what with the wedding and Mary's mother showing up.

    ReplyDelete

  38. yeah that will save the night for NBC

    ReplyDelete
  39. IDOL...at a 2.2...LOL! It looks like the "death star" has faded.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Pablo Troncoso7 March 2014 at 16:28

That 0.7 for Reign looks pretty good! Now it just have to keep it on the finals.
As for TCO, that 1.7 seems like a death sentence :(

    ReplyDelete
  41. I read a couple of reviews on Resurrection and they say if one didn't see The Returned this version is pretty good.Might not be a flop.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I've seen it. It was amazing, in my opinion the best episode of the season.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Reign got 0.7 in both hal-hours so it probably wont adjust down :D

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yay for Reign!
    Booooh for OUAT in Wonderland

    ReplyDelete
  45. Devon Maxwell-Pierce7 March 2014 at 16:31

Oh, I thought it dropped a tenth last week in finals. I could be mixing up my shows.

I'm not saying it can't rebound. I don't have anything against Scandal. I just think it was a bigger-than-usual drop. Could be a bunch of reasons.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I hope Reign does good next week when it has a rerun of TVD as a lead in...

    ReplyDelete
  47. I know, I hope it doesn't adjust down, and can keep its ratings at least at a 0.5 going up against Idol and without TVD-Lead-IN.

    ReplyDelete
  48. still great for scandal, the blacklist also fell 7 tenths with a 4.5 lead in (#1 drama of the week)- all shows fell this week.

    ReplyDelete
  49. blacklist dropped the same its fine

    ReplyDelete
  50. REIGN!!! How did that happen?! Series high?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Pablo Troncoso7 March 2014 at 16:34

Series high for Reign is 0.8 and 2 million viewers, but it is close

    ReplyDelete
  52. series high since its return in January, but it's series high was a 0.8.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I agree with you wholeheartedly! I also prefer TVByTheNumbers when it comes to ratings as they usually post information regarding week-to-week basis ("Show XYZ scored a 1.7, up 23 percent from last week's x.x") in addition to letting me know if any episode hits a season/series high/low and that is extremely helpful for me. Those ratings are also based purely on facts, whereas this Marc Berman guy does the whole Winners/Losers list and seems pretty biased in many of his reports. I try not to read these reports, though, but when I get the daily notification that the Ratings News article has been posted here, it's simple and genuine curiosity what this Marc Berman guy will rant about XD I'm trying to turn that bad habit by going to TVBTN rather than SpoilerTV, since STV is my destination for everything except for the ratings, haha, but bad habits can be hard to turn, especially when the curiosity is actually wanting me to read it, hahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  54. same opinion here.they took a necessary and bold step.Though i think,up-to-date,original sin-was probably the best episode of this season, then death and the maiden IMO.what do you think?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Kudos to TVD for going back up in 18-49. Do they usually get around this rating in the spring, and higher in the fall?

Weird that Arrow and Reign tied this week. I know there are different circumstances and Reign has a great lead-in, don't get me wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  56. If it keeps this number, it can avoid the Friday death slot.

    ReplyDelete
  57. how thought reign would match arrow in ratings one day.impressive for reign,i have to admit.Go reign!!

    ReplyDelete
  58. yes, they get around 1-1.1 around this time until may, then returns 1.1-1.3 in the fall.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks. I was trying to figure out it went up because it was a big episode, or as part of their spring pattern.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Agree with you.that slot is probably reserved for HOD final season and the show who gets pity renewal this season.

    ReplyDelete
  61. So the highest rated show on the CW this week was a 1.0......Originals, Arrow and TTP fell to series lows, SPN fell to a season low. DST is coming people. Who knew Reign would match Arrow this season? Arrow was getting 1.0+ in the fall while Reign was getting 0.6-0.7's. Wow!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hey, just checking that you realise that we have nearly every rating for every episode for every show that we cover in our Ratings Database?

    http://stvplus.com

You can also view interactive charts and tables for each show and season, as well as being able to compare any 2 shows or comparing multiple seasons of the same show?

    http://stvplus.com/ratings

    ReplyDelete
  63. Craptastic,lol....!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hey, thanks for the tip! I realize that, it's just that there a few confusing elements in place. Speaking as a colorblind person, my #1 problem is the colors. With TVBTN, it's just text, and only the newest episode compared to the previous episode. That's not always a good thing, but on a daily basis that's all I am looking for. I have always used STV+ when I'm going to look at the entire season/series at a time, and it's very good for that purpose! :) I also have pretty strong OCD, and while the following may not bother others at all, it makes my mind go nuts, and that is that the guides list the 18-49 rating as "Demo", total viewers as "Total Ratings" and I've tried to find ways to bypass my mind on that, but I just can't and it's forcing me to find other sources :/

Also, and this is a factor that I haven't found on any TV website, sometimes I'm trying to find reasons as to why a show would be renewed/cancelled, so I have something to keep in mind or reasons I didn't think about. For example a pro for a show in its 3rd season would be a 4th for syndication. I'm still trying to find websites that offer that functionality. That's kind of off-topic, though, so I don't really know why I'm mentioning it... LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  65. MaƂgorzata / willanka7 March 2014 at 16:57

I've been through so much f&f with Scandal so far and never wished to see this show to fall in ratings but last night's ep was so bad, plot-wise bad, that this is the first time I'm actually glad it didn't do better in ratings. I can only take this much.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm still in shock at Arrows 0.7. If you had told me a month ago that there would be a week where Arrow and Reign would draw, I would have thought you were mad!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Way to go Shonda!!
