In series-premiere news, non-scripted “American Believe Builders” on NBC, hosted by Nate Berkus, was DOA with a distant third-place 2.5/ 4 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m. Comparably, that was 40 percent below the second-half of a clips edition of “The Voice” one-week earlier (4.2/ 7 on March 16) and 44 percent below the second half of a year-ago edition of “Dateline” (4.5/ 7 on 3/24/13).
In week three news, ABC drama “Resurrection” slipped to a second-place 6.2/10 from 9-10 p.m., which was 11 percent below one week earlier. But this was still 38 percent above year-ago occupant “Revenge” (4.5/ 7 on 3/24/13). It built from the 8:30 p.m. portion of “Once Upon a Time” (4.3/ 7) by 44 percent. And it is poised for more time period victory in the key young adult demographics. Three-week overnight track for “Resurrection”: 8.5/13 – 7.0/10 – 6.2/10. Since most new series drop at similar percentages in weeks two and three, the true test for “Resurrection” will be to see if it levels off now.
Competing “Believe,” also in episode three, trailed with a third-place 3.3/ 5 in the 9 p.m. hour, which was a noticeable 27 percent below its time period premiere on the week-ago Sunday (4.5/ 7 on March 16). Comparably, “Believe” trailed the first half of year-ago occupant “Celebrity Apprentice” (3.9/ 6 on 3.24/13) by 15 percent. But the one positive was growth out of aforementioned “American Dream Builders” of 32 percent. As a reminder, “Believe” opened with an inflated 6.8/11 in the overnights on Monday, March 10 at 10 p.m. ET (out of “The Voice).
Earlier in the evening on NBC was a repeat of “The Voice” at a 2.2/ 4 from 7-8 p.m. (#3).
Next on NBC was week two of drama “Crisis” with a third-place 3.4/ 6 at 10 p.m., which maintained the lead-in support from “Believe” but dropped from its week-ago opener (4.5/ 8 on March 16) by 24 percent. The second-half of year-ago occupant “Celebrity Apprentice” was stronger at a 4.0/ 7.
Also on ABC, meanwhile, was veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at a second-place 3.9/ 7 at 7 p.m., followed by “Once Upon a Time” at a 4.3/ 7 from 8-9 p.m., which dropped by nine percent from the 4.7/ 7 one week earlier.
On Fox, and also in the third week, was “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” at a last-place 3.0/ 4 in the overnights from 9-10 p.m. Comparably, that was 12 percent from the 3.4/ 5 one week earlier. Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above.
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

ReplyDeleteDid NBC "really" believe that an Extreme Makeover show would do well? As ABC learned on Tuesday nights, completely unproven shows populating an entire night, doesn't work. You need to have something that established to draw in viewers to get decent sampling/continuity.

ReplyDeleteI supposed, but the fact that a similar (and long running) show ended recently on another network due to step ratings declines would indicate that the audience is not there. I don't care how it may be different than the ABC show, when I saw the promo, I know what I thought of instantly and I'm guessing the majority of the public thought the same.

ReplyDeleteIf I were CBS, I'd yank the CSI (R) on Wed and rerun TGW for two reasons: 1) this episode has generated a ton of publicity - even on local newspapers; 2) the episode was delayed in most of the country; and 3) only Nashville is new. Might as well get some traction out of this.

Believe at a 1.2 is a goner and Crisis at 1.3 is not much better. I'm willing to give Crisis one more week before declaring it dead, but things are not looking up for either show

ReplyDeletePeople were way too quick to declare Resurrection ABC's savior, it really does depend on the next week or so. SHIELD debuted to crazy ratings and slowly dropped. The only thing that might benefit Resurrection is the lack of breaks between eps but I wouldn't be surprised if it starts getting 2.1's in a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteABC has the most creative excuses. It's funny how CBS rarely, if ever, discusses the competition when presenting its ratings. Even when they chose to reair TAR's first two episodes on a Saturday, they didn't proclaim that they were opposite the Olympics Closing Ceremony or The Oscars. (Two legit special event powerhouses.)

ReplyDeleteThe 2nd episode wasn't really good, especially when considering they only have 8 episodes for this season. It felt like a filler to me.
ReplyDeleteRevenge is steady, dropping only a tenth while the rest of the ABC line up crumbles. That steadyness is a very good sign for Revenge. If just OUAT and Resurrection kept their numbers...

ReplyDeleteLower than last week for TM. Holy moly! Maybe it is not only me hating the bad writing and the like of the stalker story. Fans loved the reboot and writers had to know why ratings went up after Red John none of us were missing it.

ReplyDeleteI hope resurrection can become steady very soon as the big drops are looking slightly worrying as shield started really high then dropped a hell of a lot. Why has Once upon suddenly dropped back to a 2.0 when it was getting 2.3-2.4s last two weeks. Good for crisis retaining the audience again from believe, looks like when believe drops so does crisis with it.

ReplyDeleteToo bad Resurrection is losing traction, but hey, Revenge still only dropped one tenth, which proves yet again it's got a loyal audience and is reasonably independent from its lead-in. For 10pm, it's a solid performer.

ReplyDeleteI think JJ Abrams is great and watch nearly everything he is attached to but i haven't watched an episode since the pilot i just cant seem to get into it , maybe its the fact how it seems silly how they are on the run and yet still have time to stop in and help somebody.

It's fine, numbers are usually lower at 10pm but it's getting similar ratings to those it did at 9pm this season, actually better than some of the episodes that aired at that time. In the 3 episodes that have aired at 10 so far, it got 1.9 (second-highest Revenge rating this season), 1.7 and this week 1.6 if it doesn't adjust down. Considering there were two episodes that got 1.3 earlier this year, its current numbers at 10 are certainly solid, and while it benefits from Resurrection getting great ratings so far, the minor week-to-week drops (compared to Resurrection's major ones) indicate that Revenge isn't really dependent on its lead-in.
ReplyDeleteYou're probably right, and that's what sad about the situation. Crisis is a terrific show, but like many other terrific shows before it, it will get canceled because the masses are too busy watching brain-dead reality shows.
