Sunday 3/16/14 Metered Markets
Dominant “Resurrection” on ABC; Modest “Believe” and “Crisis” on NBC

Household
Rating/Share
CBS 6.5/10
ABC 4.9/ 8
NBC 4.1/ 7
Fox 2.7/ 4

-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening – Sunday 3/17/13:
ABC: +26, Fox: +23, NBC: + 8, CBS: – 3

—–

-Winners:
“60 Minutes” (CBS), “Resurrection” (ABC)

-Modest”
“Believe” (NBC), “Cosmo: A Spacetime Odyssey” (Fox), “Crisis” (NBC)

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“Bob’s Burgers” (Fox), “American Dad” (Fox), “Revenge” (ABC)

—–

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this third Sunday in March, besting No. 2 ABC by 33 percent in the household overnights. But week two of ABC drama “Resurrection” dominated the 9 p.m. hour with a 7.0 rating/10 share, which was a hefty 56 percent above the time period premiere of competing drama “Believe” on NBC (4.5/ 7). Comparably, “Resurrection” built from the 8:30 p.m. portion of lead-in “Once Upon a Time” (#2: 4.6/ 7) by 52 percent, with slippage from last Sunday’s highly touted premiere (8.5/13 on March 9) of only 18 percent.

“Believe,” meanwhile, increased by 18 percent from the first hour of year-ago occupant “Celebrity Apprentice” (3.8/ 6 on 3/17/13). And it led NBC to its best performance in the time period (excluding sports and the “Golden Globe Awards”) since Jan. 6, 2013. But compared to its bloated debut out of “The Voice” last Monday (6.8/11 on March 10), this was a loss of 34 percent.

In series-premiere news, “Crisis” on NBC at 10 p.m. matched “Believe,” also with a 4.5 rating (and an 8 share). And that too was up from year-ago occupant “Celebrity Apprentice” and led NBC to its best performance (excluding sports and The Golden Globes) in over one year. But since most new shows drop by 10 to 20 percent in week two, this is not necessarily a positive start for “Crisis,” which trailed CBS’ on-the-fence competitor “The Mentalist” (#1: 5.8/10) by 22 percent.

Earlier in the evening on NBC was a clips edition of “The Voice” (The Best of the Blind Auditions) at a 3.6/ 6 in the overnights from 7-9 p.m. CBS opened the night with granddaddy “60 Minutes” at a dominant 8.2/14 from 7-8 p.m., followed by episode three of the current season of “The Amazing Race” at a first-place 5.7/ 9 from 8-9 p.m. “The Good Wife” finished a respectable second in the 9 p.m. hour with a 6.3/ 9, which was only 10 percent below competing “Resurrection.” But “Resurrection” is expected to strengthen its lead in all key demographics by significant proportions.

ABC kicked-off its night with perennial “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at a second-place 3.7/ 6 at 7 p.m., followed by aforementioned “Once Upon a Time” at a 4.7/ 7 (#2) from 8-9 p.m., which was on par with the week-ago and year-ago weeks. Particularly disappointing, however, was relocated “Revenge” at a third-place 4.2/ 7 at 10 p.m., which was 39 percent below the 9:30 p.m. portion of lead-in “Resurrection” (6.9/10).

In more week two news, “Cosmos” A Spacetime Odyssey” on Fox dipped to a last-place 3.4/ 5 in the overnights at 9 p.m., which was a loss of eight percent from the 3.7/ 6 one week earlier. Keep in mind that last week’s debut was also seen simultaneously on National Geographic Channel, FX, FXX, FXM, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, Nat Geo Wild, Nat Geo Mundo and Fox Life, which makes this minor loss more significant. The remainder of the episodes will be repeated on National Geographic Channel on Monday evenings with additional new footage.

Leading into “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey” was Fox’s revamped animated combination of “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 1.7/ 3), “American Dad” (#4: 1.8/ 3), “The Simpsons” (#4: 2.8/ 4) and “Family Guy” (#4: 3.1/ 5), which are all, of course, dependent on the young adult demos.

  1. Still seems pretty damn huge for Resurrection! Good for Once Upon a Time too!

    ReplyDelete
  2. I'll wait for Revenge's demo to see how it did, but 4.2 is pretty much what it did on its 9PM timeslot, so it should be ok.
    OUAT steady is always good.
And good for Resurrection! Hope the demos stay on the 3s!

    ReplyDelete
  3. What were Revenge's overnights last week?

    ReplyDelete
  4. I don't think they were released. They were delayed due to the Clocks changing

    ReplyDelete
  5. Resurrection seems to have had a good night. Revenge on the other hand will be interesting to see the half hours considering the drop last week.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I don't know, but I believe it's near on par to what it did last week, considering last week OUAT had an overnight of 4.7 and Revenge was 1 million below in viewers, so it could have been a 4.3. If so, Revenge remained steady even with Resurrection's slippage, which is a really good sign

    ReplyDelete
  7. Resurrection seems to have done well again which im pleased as its a great show , once upon a time is nice and steady which is always pleasing. Crisis i thought was really good and i was hoping for a bit higher since it will most likely drop next week but at least it matched believe.

Once is on a hot streak right now with action-packed storytelling. I have high hopes that the show's original standard of quality is well and truly back.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Mentalist to he made good grades?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Great for Resurrection and good to see that OUAT stayed steady! !

    ReplyDelete
  11. I haven't enjoyed OUAT since the season 2 premiere! Last night's episode did not disappoint at all. Resurrection pairs up well with OUAT!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Come on people watch the Mentalist

    ReplyDelete
  13. Great for Resurrection, I am hoping for at least high 2s.
Crisis and Believe look like they will be in the high 1s.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Most probably will be. If that's the case I believe NBC will keep at least one show with JJ Abram's name attached which will most likely be Revolution.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Could anyone predict the hearing and the rate of Mentalist ?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Revenge Should be a Winner section...This Show Is So Good :(

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yup, if Believe and Crisis fail in the coming weeks and fall below Revolution's level then it has a real shot at season 3

    ReplyDelete
  18. At least Believe didn't tank, that's some good news considering what it was up against.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It will tank in the coming weeks... Its pretty bad.
Only means good news for Revolution :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. It's not only good, it is actually up from most 10PM performers on that timeslot

    ReplyDelete
  21. TOP 25 Markets:
    - Ressurection: 3.1
    - OUAT: 2.4
    - Revenge: 1.6
    - Believe: 1.6
    - Crisis: 1.6
    - Cosmos: 1.9
    - The Simpsons: 2.1
    - Family Guy: 2.4
    - The Amazing Race: 2.1

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't see Believe and maybe Crisis falling much. If, they stay in the mid to high 1s, they will definitely be renewed over Revolution.

    ReplyDelete
  23. OUAT steady with last week's top 25 market.
Hopefully Revenge goes up again, but 1.6 is not too bad if it stays there.
Resurrection stays on the 3s! Or at least I hope so.
NBC must be happy that Crisis retained Believe's audiece, but the numbers aren't really impressive.
    Thanks for the info!

    ReplyDelete
  24. To a certain entent OUAT has recovered from slump. It Is holding from last week. It also seems Resurection Is more than a 1 week hit.

Consider last week OUAT did better for ABC in both toal and Demo than AoS.

    Revenge could be In trouble.

The wicked witch Is doing what Peter Pan couldn't for OUAT.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I can see at least one of them dropping below a 1.0 within 5 episodes

    ReplyDelete
  26. So Resurrection maybe 2.8

Pretty bad for Believe and Crisis

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ouch at Believe and Crisis! Believe fell hard after the post The Voice premiere on Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Big Ouch for BELIEVE and CRISIS...
and its only down from here..
I predict under 1.0 in the demo by episode 5

    ReplyDelete
  29. i think Crisis started positively although the ratings would suggest otherwise at least it didn't loose viewers.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yup believe and crisis flop
    Good for ouat and resurrection
Decent for revenge last night was filler but next week looks good
Also it will never retain a lot from resurrection because it's a show in its 3rd season and has its own audience- as long as it stays above a 1.5 it should be fine

    ReplyDelete
  31. I wouldn't call it "pretty bad", it's NBC we are talking about, after all.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Most shows decrease after there premiere so it's not great

    ReplyDelete
  33. Nbc can't launch a show without the voice

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't understand why people are calling Believe and Crisis flops already. Sure 1.6 is not a great rating, but it's not "flop" rating, either. I suspect most of the people want Revolution to be renewed over them.

    ReplyDelete
  35. They could increase for all we know. I would wait a few more episode before calling them "flops".

    ReplyDelete
  36. The idea is that the numbers tend to be overstated in the top 25s.

A 1.6 isn't terrible for NBC in 2014 (though it's definitely not good), but if the shows really got in the 1.2 range, it's an ouch situation.

    ReplyDelete
  37. 1.6 in the top 26 Markets... for all we know it could translate into a smaller number.

1.6 is pretty dam bad for a premiere, since shows usually drop alot after its premiere.
Plus Believe got a good sampling on monday, and alot of people didnt come back for episode 2.
I'm predicting both will be cancelled come may

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yep, I agree with the "if show got to a 1.2 range", but it's too early to call it a flop just yet.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Or maybe many people didn't know about the time slot change, like what happened with Bones earlier in the season.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 3.0 for Resurrection! Though down from it's premiere 3.8, still pretty good! If it stays at mid-high 2s in weeks to come, then it's really good for ABC

    ReplyDelete
  41. Resurrection at 3.0 in the demo, pretty damn good! ABC's mid-season woes are over!

    ReplyDelete
  42. OUCH

1.4 for BELIEVE ! Wow thats terrible.
1.6 for CRISIS is a little better

    ReplyDelete
  43. Starting off with a 1.6 isn't really a good sign though is it, its bound to drop over the next few weeks

    ReplyDelete
  44. Great for Resurrection, finally something worked for ABC.

    ReplyDelete
  45. OUAT steady, ouch for Believe! A 1.6 is ok, but a 1.4? That's dreadful for a freshman
Crisis build up from its lead in, which is good, but it could fall farther

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm not saying it won't but i rather be positive than negative and it will propbably do a lot better once the Live +3 and the Live +7 comes out.A lot people probably stuck it o there dvrs.

    ReplyDelete
  47. 1.4 for Believe... it tanked

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm happy OUAT is steady. Looks not bad for season 4. Yeah for Resurrection.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Believe got 1.4... I think its safe to say it will be cancelled.
Its going to keep falling imo

    ReplyDelete
  50. Once again, I am gonna wait a few episode before I decide. It could rise for all we know.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Season 4 was a given either way for syndication purposes.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Great numbers for Resurrection! I find it to be so refreshing. Modest numbers for Crisis but at least we know that there is a specific story this season that if the show doesn't get renewed we would still have a decent ending. Ouch for Believe. I like it but there are a lot of things plaguing the show, especially the male lead. Great for OUAT and typical Revenge numbers. Not worried about Revenge because it's pretty much assured a 4th season cause of Syndication purposes

    ReplyDelete
  53. Plus, its ratings were slightly up from last year in the same week.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I don't see how TGW and TM aren't losers. They are in the low 1's.

    ReplyDelete
  55. It technically can't tank yet because it's been on 2 very different nights.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Man I hate ratings. The Mentalist beat Crisis by 22%...which translates to a lower rating.
US TV is so messed up it's ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Crisis does better than its lead-in! That's a surprise! Crisis can still win the time-slot in 18-49 ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  58. HH ratings are different than A18-49.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Premiere boost for Crisis, I suspect.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Yeah I forgot that the analysis is for HH numbers. But really those ratings are positively dreadful.

    ReplyDelete
  61. 1.7 for Revenge is ok, slipped 2 tenths, almost unaffected by Resurrection dropping 8. I already suspected as much, but Revenge is lead in independant. It'll fare ok on the 10PM timeslot (by the way, it won the timeslot ;) )

    ReplyDelete
  62. I was hoping for much higher ratings for Believe but given the circumstances, I'd say its doing OK.. Sometimes I don't understand NBC: Putting two new shows (Crisis and Believe) on one of the most competitive nights of the week with no good lead-in is just setting up those shows to fail. I haven't watched Crisis yet but I thought that Believe was very good and has tons of potential in terms of lot development.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I don't know why people were freaking out so much about Revenge's moving back an hour.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Yeah, it does ok for a 10PM show, its number are up from the 9PM timeslot, and it held off pretty much ok slipping only 2 tenth from last week. The show is ok

    ReplyDelete
  66. agree if anything its a better fit for 10 both ratings and quality rise

    ReplyDelete
  67. Very good for Once ... now I hope it should stay in the 2.X average

    ReplyDelete
  68. At least their not as bad as FOX this season.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Eidnoreid Pills17 March 2014 at 15:33

I guess people were worried about how it would affect the show, but it seems to be doing alright and it's 1 of the few things ABC has done right this season so far.

    ReplyDelete
  70. While Revenge would indeed have a 4th season assured for syndication reasons, I note that ABC is currently averaging a 1.7 in most recent airings of its dramas (and comedies actually, it's tied). That makes Revenge performance last night a performance at 100% of its relevant scripted average and that's something that networks do not cancel (unless it's an extreme situation like NBC comedies for instance). IMO, Revenge would be renewed this year if it was on its 2nd or 4th season as well. Third year give it extra assurance, but it would be back anyway

    ReplyDelete
  71. Those half hours for Resurrection are promising indeed!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Once again the second half hour of Revenge is a 1.6, obviously the show's core audience, which is ok for a 10PM show

    ReplyDelete
  73. Yeah I know right. Looking at these numbers now, Revenge even won it's time slot if not adjusted down.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I'd like to mention that Revenge is pulling these numbers in the 10PM timeslot, which is harder to pull than in the 9PM it was before. And so far it has held pretty much from last week (slipping only 2 tenths) even when Resurrection slipped almost a full point.

    ReplyDelete
  75. NBC was preempted for basketball in Portland from 7-8:30PM.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Yeah considering ABC's ratings woes recently It would be unwise for them to cancel one of their highest rated dramas. Plus Revenge easily solves their Sunday's at 10 drama breaking the losing streak. They just need to repair Thursday's 8pm slot and hope that AOS somehow bounces back up and doesnt completely drop next season

    ReplyDelete
  77. ABC just basically won the night conquering all of the timeslots

    ReplyDelete
  78. Oh, OUAT did 2.3, awesomeeeee

    ReplyDelete
  79. If you're referring to how Fox screwed with Almost Human, I agree.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Personally, I thought Ressurection would flop, that's why I was worried. I love Revenge to death and in January it certainly proved to be able to self start but I was very affraid that a Ressurection flop would bring it down with it. It's different knowing that Ressurection is a big hit.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Yeah I find it sad that since Resurrection is a winner ratings wise that Revenge isn't even getting a ratings boost. But I'm happy with it's performance and it's dominating at 10 pm

    ReplyDelete
  82. Yeah, their only chance now is that American Dream Builder is a surprise hit next week

    ReplyDelete
  83. I think it's because those two shows are very incompatable, those who watch Resurrection probably don't care that much to see Revenge. I think I'm one of the few who watches both.
Having a hit lead in surely helps Revenge, but even without it I think it would hit 1.6-1.5s most of the time, the second half hour has been 1.6 these two weeks and I think that is the show's core audience, which is enough for ABC and more than enough for the 10PM timeslot (especially the Sunday 10PM timeslot)

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yeah I agree. Revenge has proven that it can stand on it's own and that it's a self starter with consistent viewer ship with a core audience.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Resurrection dropped but it's still good i was expecting that, glad to see OUaT and Revenge steady.
Believe woao i didnt expected to drop that much, The Voice really help those shows on mondays.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I don't know why but I'm really happy for Revenge getting a 1.7. It was a very good episode.

    ReplyDelete
  87. No, but I like Believe! At least Resurrection has really good ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Eric Van Velson17 March 2014 at 16:41

Well I have to say those Believe numbers are a bit upsetting. It's been my favorite midseason show so far. However extremely happy that OUAT got a 2.3 and Resurrection got a 3.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I expected a big drop for Believe since it went up against Resurrection.

Can't see the chart right now, I'm getting an error from google? What were the viewer/rating numbers for Believe?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Go Once Upon A Time. I love this show! Great for Resurrection, Believe and Crisis too.

    ReplyDelete
  91. EvilZygonRabbit17 March 2014 at 17:23

I have the Resurrection pilot on my iPad, but I've only just started watching it. Good so far. I kind of wanted to wait to make sure it didn't completely bomb before getting invested in the story. By now, it looks like the show definitely has a good chance of survival.

    ReplyDelete
  92. It's because Mentalist is more interesting ;)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Ugh to TM tieing with Good wife on demo unless it is adjusted up. Not worried. I think next week it will be higher with more promo for 6x15. Something says we will gets sneaks early too.

    ReplyDelete
  94. 6.5 Million viewers with a 1.4 rating.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Im really please at that 3.0 for Resurrection im really enjoying it at the moment , Crisis could have been better but a 1.6 inst bad at all for NBC. Also im glad OUAT is staying above 2`s now after dropping to 1.9`s before the break.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Remember that Ressurection is on its second episode while Revenge is a serial halfway through its third season. Most people won't pick up that early. But Revenge is doing better than Red Widow, Betrayal, and 666 Park Avenue, so Revenge getting a boost or not is fine.

    ReplyDelete
  97. You saying the opening scene shooting was not interesting or keep them watching? cbs at 10 nobody wants to watch too violent or gory Sunday. I did like it but I sleep at 1.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I don't think running Believe against Resurrection helps either.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I thought it would be a flop because it was on ABC. It's a good surprise and I'll think I give the show a chance.
