    I don't get why the people hate the show now and say this isn't the same show they loved continue to watch. Ya I know the response will be "Dean and Sam" but according to those people they aren't the same characters.

    I don't really know what happened, but the show went terribly bad since it's season opener. The difference is *so* jarring, I don't even know if I can watch it with the same passion as I did s8. Something's just so off with the characters, and the plot is going nowhere. It reminds me of s7, when I used to minimize my episode window while I stimultaneously surfed the net for something more interesting.

    I've read all the comments. The complaints about the writers seem about normal for here. didn't find anything wrong with them as there is not enough to know what the reason for the statements are. 'll be a fan and wait.

    -Sam-I can make things right- cas looks unconvinced I'm not 100% that it's Sam saying that, the intonation sounds like Gadreel but could be Sam. Otherwise, great description.

    I hope they do the Sam storyline justice as well, but I'm really doubtful. I don't think Dean DOES feel guilty about what he did to Sam, as long as Sam is breathing. If Sam comes out relatively unscathed Dean gets what he wanted and he really doesn't see or care about how it affects Sam emotionally.

    Crowley is the one who needs to die already. I know that is an unpopular opinion, but he killed Sarah and those kids from Wendigo. He tried to kill Jodi. Crowley just needs to be gone already!

    I liked Crowley when he was evil, when he was a real threat to the brothers.

    What I don't like is when the roles are blurred and he comes over as a helpful,collaborative guy. The Winchesters need a true opponent/ enemy. One who is truly evil, not a 'Being Human' wanabee, which Crowley now is.

    I remember Dean saying more or less ithe same line in 6.01 "So I'm dead? This is Heaven?" but it was filled with great emotional impact as he opened his eyes to see Sam sitting there, and he assumed as Sam was dead, that he was too.

    Then in Dark Side of the Moon where Dean asks 'Wait. If I’m in heaven, then where’s Sam?" it was also charged with meaning, so it's been said before, but when it comes out of Garth's mouth, it loses all its pathos.

    Dean created the problem, he has decided he has all the rights over Sam , he gets to go off and have revenge for something he created , .Sam gets spikes in his head at this point in Jeremy Carver's play who do you think is better off.

    This actually makes sense. Maybe Metatron tries to get him to do more prophet slaying and he decides against it? But it seems as if he's not willing to give up Sam as a vessel and that's why they need to call in Crowley to help get rid of him.

    I wouldn't say "hate." Just angry and disappointed. I guess we'd like to think that at some point the writers will get out of this holding patter of hurt Sam and caretaker Dean in which they repeatedly betray one another and make them a real team again, but I'm beginning to think that like most series in their waning years, we're just sitting at the bedside of a dying loved one.

    Agreed. Easily the worst season first half of the series. It was painful to watch -- unclear motivations and actions, contrived conflict, boring melodrama. Just awful.

    I agree. Meg was the gray area demon, the sometime ally with her own agenda, but they killed her off. It's as though they are trying to stick Crowley into that role now.

    I guess I don't really mind the opening of s8 is because I kind of liked the purgatory storyline & the fillers weren't that bad, and subjectively I didn't feel like there were too many of them. This year however, I feel like they've at their lowest with bad, cringeworthy humor and the mytharc that's nowhere to be seen (or even if I do see it, it's just same old thing I've seen thousand times over). SPN tried to be funny before, but it was always the type of humor that didn't compromize its characters (more of a situational type of humor, like in Xfiles) & that worked for them, but now I feel like it shits all over them for no good reason (because the end result isn't funny, it's awful).


    I think they had many great ideas, but the execution for every single one of them was just so underwhelming that I actually strugle with myself to continue watching. And it's not the type of dissapointment that's angry or passionate, it's just the cold, dark indifference of "Supernatural? Meh, whatever..." At one fell swoop, in just a handful of episodes, they've managed to get me from super excited to uttering the eight deadly words of every serialized work of fiction: "I don't care what happens to these people."

    Meg at the beginning was deliciously evil and she was terrific in that incarnation, but as you say she improved relations with the Winchesters for her own reasons, more or less the same route that Crowley is taking now
    I agree that it seems he is taking Meg's place. Ironic that he was the one to kill her!

    A success, demon-wise, though she started out as being helpful from day one, was Ruby. She had a job to do and she got it done. No side-tracking for her. Gotta admire that!:)

    I miss the Alastairs and the Zachariahs. They could realy play the chilly villain card

    Ruby's story arc worked for what she was and the purpose she played in the narrative, but I loved Meg for being a survivor. She was the longest running character other than the boys, and I think there was a lot more of her story that could have been told. Maybe killing her off had something to do with Rachel Miner's illness, and I wouldn't object if they brought Meg back to kick ass in another meat suit.

    I miss the Alastairs and Zachariahs too. None of the villains have really been chilling since Godstiel, and unfortunately, they dropped that storyline in favor of the leviathan. Much as I like Amand Tapping, Naomi just didn't quite work for me. The new angel baddies are so two-dimensional. Heck, I can't even remember their names -- Bart and somebody. Gadreel... meh, whatever. He just pisses me off so far.

    I agree. Every third or fourth episode they have to suddenly jump into some kind of a Mary Poppins world with geeky characters and cringeworthy lines, and it really doesn't help if they want to build a solid story. I sincerely don't care what happens to the characters in those episodes. How am I supposed to connect to them on an emotional level if they have these "multiple personalities" that can suddenly just disregard everything that has happened previously?

    MOTW episodes don't usually ruin the momentum, because they are seen as a "part of the journey". But meta-funny stuff does. It's like adding a chapter from Bridget Jones Diaries (sp?) to a Stephen King novel.

    He can be on the screen 90% of the time & I still wouldn't care, because he's there 1. to fuss over Sam & angst, 2. in a random action scene, 3. as OOC comic relief. Most of this stuff doesn't translate to any meaningful character and story development. The same goes for Sam and Cas really, but Dean is my favorite character, so I'm extra sensitive about him.

    fits with Gadreels upcoming storyline that Carver has talked about , we know Sam doesnt have anything going on other than 2 quick fixes in a row and then back to researching cases so him saying it would make zero sense.

    Don't get me wrong, I loved Meg,in both her original and 'tamed' versions and I was really sorry to see her go out like that, killed by her nemesis Crowley.
    I disliked too that the brothers ran off and left her. They should have tried to save her.

    The actual angels are just meh, there's nothing about them that stands out, probably because the writers are too lazy or not creative enouigh to make them interesting, but then angels are just uninteresting. period! Give me a demon any day!:)

    I thought the use of Castiel in season six was an intelligent idea on Sera's part.
    Making him the big bad was the way to go. It gave him a reason to still be on the show after Swan Song.
    I thouight he actually made a pretty creepy villain. They should have kept him bad.
    He would have been a very personal ememy for the brothers, but unfortunately, it seems TPTB don't have the courage to make him truly evil so we continue with the saga of the dumb, naive, sweet, little always forgiven Castiel, which honestly is not in the least flattering to the character and makes him a useless third wheel.

    Since we don't have the entire context it COULD be Gad noting the difference between humans and angels. The next line could be but I'm an angel and I work for the Lord, debts aren't my issue. I mean we do have Dean saying he trusted him. If Dean then reminds Gad that Gad OWES him, Gad could be pointing out that owing and repaying debts if for humans, not angels like he is. Or he could be talking about feeling the need to repay whatever debt and stating it's because of Sam's human influence. We will obviously have to see, but I can come up with a reason Gad would say the line, but not mean he's going to repay his debts.

    Yeah . . . I actually forgot about the show for two weeks! My sister asked me what was happening (she's a casual viewer), and that's when I remembered it had returned. Haha!

    For some reason, I immediately knew from the premiere that Sam was being screwed or "bussed." I know many were holding out hope for an explanation, but I had a feeling we weren't getting more than what we got!

    I understand. With how fast characters die in this show, I really expected to see Crowley dead at the end of S5. I couldn't wait to see him die, but as time passed he grew on me, I must admit he's a real fun baddie, lol.
    Same as Abaddon, I was so disappointed when they attached her head, but now I enjoy seeing her.
    Balthazar, Zachariah, Meg2, they were all interesting and kinda lovable, though I never could forgive Meg for Ellen & Jo, still I absolutely love her S7.

    I think all the recent angel "baddies" are interchangable. Naomi and Bart were very similar. I can't remember the name of the other one either. In any event, they aren't very different from each other. They don't have interesting, unique personalities anymore. The last angels I liked were Uriel, Balthazar, and Zachariah.

    I've heard other people say these episodes have made them indifferent too, so you're not alone, but I don't feel like most of this is hugely different. They've always had tons of comedy episodes per season that don't work, a mytharc that is nowhere to be found, and bad fillers.


    I loved the Purgatory storyline, but Sam not looking for Dean, Sam/Amelia and Sam's hatred of Benny (leading him to play a major role in Martin's death) were big missteps - the Martin story just about destroyed Sam's character.


    At least with the main brother angst story this season, I feel like it's in character for Dean, and could go somewhere.

    I don't feel like the show is dying, per se - I just think it has some poor scriptwriters and bad pacing. Last season, parts of it, made the show feel vibrant to me again, for the first time in years. I still see traces of that. It's just poorly executed.


    To me a show going out of its misery is something like the last year or two of Buffy.


    I think the fandom tends to make everything worse with this show. It would be easier for me to watch without it, but I'm addicted to the fandom, unfortunately.

    I thought Amanda Tapping was really good but hamstrung by a character that got very little exploration, other than hurting Cas and killing other angels. Even though I have had enough angel storylines to last me a lifetime, I would at least have liked some feeling as to where Naomi came from. Was she always part of the bureaucracy? What shape was heaven in after all this time? Things that would have explained WHY she was acting the way she was. She said she was trying to protect heaven, but with so little context the character came off muddled, to me. Then they hinted at a back story with Crowley and abruptly killed her off. I wish she was still around because of all the new angels I thought she had the most potential and would have been an interesting ally in the fight against Metatron.

    I preferred him as a semi-ally also. I also preferred the Crowley who turned Hell into a constant waiting line instead of using brute torture against his subjects, and the Crowley who punished the CRD that killed the people he bargained with early. But that Crowley disappeared and he kind of became an extremely amusing and snarky mustache twirling villain. He tortured his subjects instead of being creative. He didn't tell the family in Trial and Error the 10 year clause part of the deal. I like my villains to use intelligence over brute force.

    That's where Naomi fell flat for me, too. You never got a sense of anything other than a buearucrat following orders until that two minutes before she was killed. It's like they had to make room for Metatron and Naomi had to go to accomplish that. Suppose they figured no one would care about her, even it it was Amanda Tapping in the role. It was a waste of that woman's talents. I thought the character would be great, because I know what standards she has for the female characters she plays on television. I've heard stories about how she stood up for the integrity of Sam Carter and Magnus.

    My biggest issue with the Leviathans were they were ridiculously overpowered. Who the hell in their right mind writes such an undefeatable villain into a series like this? There was no way they were going to defeat the Levis in a satisfactory way, they were so insanely powerful. They had to make someone, who was a pretty smart character until that point (Roman, you have to admit, he was), completely dumb in order to make that tablet nonsense work. Ugh. God, I hated a majority of season seven.

    It's just the association of the words 'human/debts' that I find strange. It's not the most important characteristic I'd think angels would use to define humans.

    Yes, they don't seem to have distinct personalities, and up until Gadreel, they hasn't been a personal sense of threat to the boys. It was just about the angel war, which had little to do with the Winchesters. That was Castiel's thing and the boys were just getting dragged along for the ride. Gadreel betraying the deal he had with Dean and hijacking Sam's body makes it personal at least.

    It isn't that I dislike Castiel, but I am less invested in him as a character than I am Sam and Dean. The angel war has seemed like this vague, plodding thing in the background with ever changing players and no real focus. I'm hoping that Gadreel's actions will make the boys more central to that narrative, which give it some immediacy, if you know what I mean.

    I have a friend who is a casual viewer, not in the fandom at all, and we were talking at the beginning of S8 about how things were going on the show. She just shrugged and said that it wasn't nearly as good anymore, but that's what she expected of a show in its 8th season. So, I suspect that those of us in the fandom just have higher expectations than casual viewers. We want the same tight scripts, quality production, and care taken with continuity that we saw in the early seasons, and maybe that just isn't realistic at this point. And quite honestly, if the viewers numbers are there, why should tptb put in the extra work or money?

    While I completely agree about the lies and secrets, I think it is unrealistic to expect them to lose the codependency. It's a psychological disorder that doesn't just go away because they make friends and emotional connections outside each other. I think that Dean's willingness to sacrifice Benny shows that pretty clearly. This is something that has been hardwired into their brains since early childhood and it would take some intensive long-term therapy to unlearn it. Quite honestly, I wouldn't want them to. What I would like to see is the boys confronting the issues that make their relationship antagonistic -- like lying to one another and keeping secrets. If they would deal with those issues, the codependency could be used as a strength -- as it sometimes has been -- rather than a weakness.

    I agree, and Jensen said he spoke to them about not dropping Dean's stories, so clearly he does too, but I was saying that I do think Dean has had a story this season. I don't think it's about "fuss over Sam" or "OOC comic relief" (I'm not sure what is OOC for Dean with comic relief, really) or "action scene." A lot of his material so far this season has been about him, and what he's been forced to become. I just wish they wouldn't drop it.

    I feel like some of the people who work on the show likely don't care, and some do. I hope their losing the PCA might alert them to some problems (and some of these can be fixed, like not killing women over and over and over), but we will see.

    Gamble only made Cas the villain late in the season, when her other stories didn't work out. It just felt like a cheap excuse to write Misha off the show. She didn't even want to do an episode explaining what he did - Misha and Ben Edlund had to push for it.

    Yeah, losing the PCAs should tell them that although their overall viewer numbers may be good, they are beginning to lose the fandom because that is who votes in polls like that.

    I don't necessarily have a problem with them killing female characters except when that death's purpose is just fodder for Sam or Dean's man pain. Sarah, for example, was brought back simply to die in order to create emotional drama for the boys. That pisses me off. They kind of left Jody's fate open in that episode for the same reason. At the beginning of the series, that was the purpose of both Mary and Jess -- they were motivation for both John and Sam to hunt. It was only later that Mary was given a backstory that made her a fleshed out character. Jess is little more than a romanticized figure to the fandom. I admit I'm still angry with them for killing Meg though. That didn't need to happen, but then killing Bobby is probably the worst decision ever made on the show.

    Yeah. I kind of already knew that. Some people don't think Jared is attractive. Others don't think Misha is attractive. It's common sense that not everyone is going to be attracted to the same person. After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

    I really think a lot of these casting decisions hinges on how much the writers like the character/actor. They were clueless on where to go with Kevin this season, so they offed him after doing nothing with him, when there were possibilities available. They keep Castiel around for ages and when they have an opportunity to do something for him as a human, they realize they can't write for him unless he's a super powered angel. They ignore him until they can pump him full of angel grace again so they don't have to kill him off, cause the fans love Castiel and so do they. Same thing with Charlie. They've offed/ignored really good characters because they don't seem to like them or fandom didn't strongly react.

And I got the impression that Dean is upset about Kevin's death but not about what he did to Sam. I hope the writers give this storyline and Sam justice. Sam would be getting hell until the season finale if it was the other way around.

    Good extrapolation, but there's nothing particularly new or interesting in these promos.
    The info can be put together in different ways but in the end it's just all more of the same.

    I presume, we're going to get Sam back eventually minus Gadreel; the angels will end up in heaven most probably, maybe with Castiel taking his place as overlord this time round; Crowley will likely beat Abaddon for the throne of Hell, and Sam and Dean will still circle each other without ever having an honest sincere opening up about their true thoughts and feelings.

    It' s all lacking the thrill, the excitement, the suspense, 'cos really there's not much to anticipate. It seems all too obvious how events are going to work out, but then again, I'm always hoping to be surprised!

    Clips from 10. 11 and 12, no Gadreel in episodes 11 and 12, not a lot of Sam but we knew that already. Its mostly just all Dean and Crowley, Abaddon seems like she might be the one biting the dust in episode 11 after all?
