New Commenting Profiles For Everyone and Other Changes

25 Apr 2013

Taken from the Disqus Blog.

Starting today, we’re rolling out some major improvements to the Disqus commenter profile that makes it even easier to get to know and follow the people participating in your favorite online communities.

New Commenter Profiles

In order to improve the overall reading experience, the new commenter profiles are now overlaid on top of the comments so you never lose your reading place again. When you’re done checking out a profile, you can easily jump right back into the comments without having the reload the page or hit the back button.   image

Following Made Easy

We’ve also made it easier to follow your favorite community members by including a nice large follow button as well including two new tabs that show a user’s list of followers, and a list of people that the user is following.
The new profiles were designed with mobile in mind so they will automatically resize to fit all different screen sizes making the whole experience seamless no matter what device you’re using.

Update Your Own Profile

You can make your new profile shine by uploading your own custom avatar as well as adding a short bio about yourself. To experience the new Disqus profiles click on any commenter profile photo on this blog or on your favorite Disqus community.image
Get out there and follow a couple of your favorite community members and let us know what you think!

  1. These are some nice changes, wish they did something about the upvote/downvote thing too though. :)

  3. I've had another chat with the people at disqus and I think they are starting to realise that not everyone wants downvoting on their sites.

  4. Well then, at least there is (a little bit of) hope! :)

  5. I know but i didn't want to say anything for i figured you or us would wound up with only more of them! I gave you the UV to cancel out the DV! I know they don't count, but still it irks me! ;)

  6. Some comments are downvote worthy, so I don't want it to be removed from
the site all together. I think not being able to downvote while you
    aren't signed is is enough.

  7. We didn't always have that button so when ever someone disagreed with you at least the person knew why.It promoted discussion. This button doesn't do that if anything it does the opposite.I have never had a downvote with the person saying why, their is no discussion,no nothing just the DV.

The only time it does happen is with the few people who have been here the longest, who remember not having the button. They give me a reason, they talk.

More times than not people who use that button hide behind it.They do it for no good reason.Just because you like an actor or a show they don't,that isn't a very good reason. They also do it out of spite, and their is plenty of that here...So you might find that button worthy,i do not.its killing this site for me and i know when i check back later what i will find. How many dv's will i have?....plenty i'm sure.

  8. It isn't enough in my opinion, signing in isn't that difficult. You can do it with facebook or twitter, which don't require you make a disqus account. That allows you to downvote without ever commenting at all.

So this and what @laura3341 said. :)

  9. Yeah, me too. It is not the downvote per se. It is more the someone disagrees with me, which is fine, and me wanting to know how they view a certain topic. :)

  10. I don't get why people downvotes bother them so much. I don't.

  12. I knew it! I like silly ASS clowns! But you are being to kind sometimes Pascal... :)

  13. Really? How am I too kind? If it's not fit for a public place like this, send me a message on twitter or facebook. :)
