18 Nov 2012
Boardwalk Empire Cancelled Shows Eastbound and Down Game of Thrones Girls True BloodHere's a fun little promo advising us to put box sets of HBO original series under our Christmas tree :
And for your information, here is HBO's Blu-ray / DVD release schedule for the next two months :
November 6 — Entourage - The complete series (8 seasons, 96 episodes).
November 27 — Luck - The complete series (9 episodes).
December 4 — Eastbound and Down season 3 (8 episodes).
December 11 — Girls season 1 (10 episodes).
January 8 — Enlightened season 1 (10 episodes).
January 8 — Game Change - HBO original film (1h58).
January 15 — Life's Too Short season 1 (8 episodes).
If it's like all other HBO Blu-ray releases, it will be region free* and there will be English, French and Spanish subtitles. Often, dubbing in French and Spanish are also available.
* All region free except Deadwood, which is Region A locked for some tragic reason :(.
Now, I think this thread is an opportunity to discuss which HBO shows we own on DVD or Blu-ray, so please tell us what you have in the comments below !

I'll start :
ReplyDeleteOn Blu-ray, I have the following HBO series : Bored to Death (season 1), Generation Kill, The Pacific and True Blood (seasons 1-3).
On DVD : Band of Brothers, Carnivàle (seasons 1-2), Curb your Enthusiasm (seasons 1-7), Eastbound & Down (season 1), Entourage (seasons 1-6), Extras (seasons 1-2), Flight of the Conchords (seasons 1-2), In Treatment (seasons 1-3), Oz (seasons 1-6), Rome (seasons 1-2), Six Feet Under (seasons 1-5), The Comeback, The Sopranos (seasons 1-6) and The Wire (seasons 1-5).
For Christmas : If Santa happened to venture on amazon.com for me, I'd suggest something like Curb your Enthusiasm season 8 (DVD), Entourage seasons 7-8 (BD), Bored to Death seasons 2-3 (BD) or Eastbound & Down seasons 1-3 (BD - yep, I might as well have season 1 in that format too, even if I have the DVD).
I'm not sure about buying Game of Thrones season 1 (which I love), I didn't get the limited edition so I kind of gave up on buying the set. And overall, I'm not keen on starting new Blu-ray collections anymore, I just want to complete the ones I already have *, so no Boardwalk Empire or Tremé so far either. I would have definitely bought Deadwood on BD but sadly, unlike
* Said the guy who bought season 1 of Homeland a couple of weeks ago - but it's not the same, it's freaking Homeland (and there was a 25% discount) !
Haha ha I love this commercial.

ReplyDeleteJust any DVD/ BD set with the Bush head included, the limited edition slip covered versions, or the Collector's Edition with BD, DVD and the Dragon Egg??
Are they really region free? :O *Pre-orders Luck*
ReplyDeleteMe too.i love this commercial too :)
ReplyDeleteThere's a 99% chance that it is region free, yep, HBO is doing things right ;). But I should warn you, the Blu-ray set of a previous David Milch series, Deadwood, is surprisingly not region free, so I think we should be cautious on Luck.
ReplyDeleteI mean the slip covered Stark or Targaryen version, I didn't get it when it came out, I couldn't find it in my local stores, so I let time pass by and now I don't think I'll be able to get it new and at a good price (I'm not really into eBay or outlets like that).
ReplyDeleteThank you for the heads up :)
ReplyDeleteThey did ban the original cut. A number of stores still have it for sale (mostly smaller online retailers), but the big retailers all pulled it from the shelves and were sent replacement versions. They all look the same with Ned on the Throne, but that one second scene is blurred or distorted now! XD
ReplyDeleteI do like Gabriel Byrne and have watched In Treatment. I finished Season 1 and started Season 2 I think and then I got busy and never completed the series. I have HBO though so it is available on HBO Go or onDemand I think....I may buy the DVDs at some point, but it I'm not sure if the series is one I will watch repeatedly honestly. I enjoy it, but....
I haven't bought Season 5 of The Wire because I think I may buy the Complete Series set. I like the look of it. Although I have been debating because it seems a bit silly to buy all 5 seasons in one cool box when I have the first four seasons already....
You may want to check out buying one of the box sets from those Chinese sites I mentioned. They are always region free. Some people have had quality control issues, but I have bought 3 or 4 sets from sites like that and had good luck with only VERY minor damage to one of the cases.
ReplyDeleteHere's one, but there are others online I know...They are usually like 50% or less of the retail price too, but you have to pay significant shipping since it's coming from China...
