The 2012 STV Favourite TV Series Competition - Day 1 - Game of Thrones vs. The Big Bang Theory & Pushing Daisies vs. Lie To Me

19 Jun 2012

Hey guys,

Today is the day. One month of TV series doing battle to claim the ultimate STV prize begins, and we open with a battle between one of Cable's biggest smash hits of recent years and one of network TV's biggest ever comedy shows. It couldn't get much bigger. Game of Thrones has had a critically acclaimed second season whilst The Big Bang Theory took on American Idol in the ratings and managed to beat it on numerous occasions.

In our finished shows poll today one of the most adored TV series of the last ten years, Pushing Daisies takes on Tom Roth's hit Lie to Me in a poll where both shows have quite vocal and passionate fan bases. It is also a tough result to call.

As this is day one of the competition, it's worth noting that if you have't joined in any of the previous "Favourite TV Series Competitions" on SpoilerTV then all our polls have 24 hours to gather enough votes to beat its opponent and claim its place in the next round. Tomorrow there will be four more shows in two new polls that will battle it out for a place in round two.

All you need to do is simply state which show is your favourite. Easy!

If you want to see the draw for the rest of the competition, and see which show will take on which other show then head HERE for a look.

I voted for Game of thrones, as I one best TV show current on the air, it has such good, writing, editing, directing, cinematography, acting. Every thing about it is brilliant. I like Big Bang Theory and think it good show but I just think that Game of thrones is better on all the above.

In the second poll I voted for Lie To Me, as I have not seem Pushing Daises. But to be honest I am not too bother is Lie To Me loses. I like it but did not love it and I have not missed Lie To Me this season.

  4. Game of Thrones and Lie To Me

  5. The Big Bang Theory all the way ....comme on peps VOTE!!! The Big Bang Theory

    ReplyDelete
  6. GoT (It's hard to vote against TBBT, but it is Game of Thrones...) and Pushing Daisies for me.

Very easy choices for me today: GoT and Pushing Daises

  8. Tried Game and did not care for it, so TBBT is my pick, along with Lie To Me.

  9. Big Bang Theory for the first poll. Some of my favorite funniest lines come from it including:
    Sheldon -
"I don't know what your odds are in the world as a whole, but as far as
the population of this car goes, you're a veritable Mack Daddy." - Big Bang Theory

    Sheldon -
"Ah gravity, thou art a heartless b**" - Big Bang Theory

    Sheldon -
"OK look, I think that you have as much a chance of having a sexual
relationship with Penny as the Hubble telescope does of discovering at the
center of every black hole is a little man with a flashlight searching for a
circuit breaker." - The Big Bang
    Theory

I did watch the pilot of Game of Thrones but it wasn't for me. Nothing in the second poll because neither really hooked me. Although Pushing Daisies gave me this quote: "That
    was the truth bus." "That
wasn't the truth bus. That was the b**y
    crosstown express." - Pushing
Daisies Kristin Chenowith is always good for a laugh.

  10. Honestly putting TBBT against Game of Thrones? that's jsut cruel. 2 of my favourite shows how can I choose (not to mentionth e fact that they are so different it's lioke choosing between apples and chips!

Pushing Daisies is an easy choice though.

  11. Game of Thrones for the first one, even though The Big Bang Theory is one of the best comedies I've ever seen.
But GoF is the definition of epic television for me right now, with brilliant writing and acting.

Pushing Daisies for the second poll.I've only watched the first season, but the general idea was interesting and it had some great, funny moments. And I really liked Lee Pace.
Also,I've never watched Lie To Me.

  12. Game of Thrones, because there is no other series like it. It is original, great cast and an amazing story line.
Didn´t vote for the other shows.

    ReplyDelete
  13. GoT and Pushing Daisies, they're the two I actually watch.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Game of Thrones & Pushing Daisies :)

  15. Love TBBT, but it has the unfortunate task of going up against Game of Thrones..... Even Sheldon would vote for Game of Thrones in that situation.

Pushing Daisies in the second, I never understood the appeal of Lie to Me honestly. It was fun in concept and then half a season in it started meandering into all these other formulas that never felt right to me and it got downright silly.

    Game of Thrones.
    Pushing Daisies.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Sheldon would vote for GofT... it's a good point :P haha

    ReplyDelete
  17. Interesting that Pushing Daisies and Lie to Me are tied... it's a really close one is that!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Pushing Daisies and The Big Bang Theory (sorry GOT, but I love Sheldon).

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think it's super strange to see a show like The Big Bang Theory pitted against one like Game of Thrones... they're SO different! And as much as I love TBBT, Sheldon couldn't compete with GoT. I think the show got away from itself a bit this last season, and I miss the days when it was pretty much just about the four guys (and sometimes Penny). I know they're "growing" and stuff, but I miss the old days.

For the second poll, it was no contest - Pushing Daisies all the way. I still think it was cancelled before its time, and it was such a creative show that was the first of its kind. I miss it :(

    ReplyDelete
  20. The black hole line is one of my favorite quotes...like...ever.

    ReplyDelete
  21. GOT and TBBT seem like two powerhouse shows to go up against each other right off the bat. Kinda sad.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Always got a laugh out of TBBT so it got my vote.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The Big Bang Theory And Pushing Daisies!

    ReplyDelete
  24. This one was a no brainer- Game of Thrones, this series is outstanding, its epic! Its grand!!!
I didn't watch Pushing Daisies so my vote went with Lie To Me,which wasn't all that good.shouldn't have voted for that.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think your the first person i came across that like GoT.

  26. I think i would have had my second heart attack if you didn't vote for GOT,thank goodness you did! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  27. The Big Bang Theory and Pushing Daisies! Only seen a couple episodes of PD but would like to see more.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Game of Thrones of course! I haven't seen the other two but voted for Lie to Me.

    ReplyDelete
  29. wow, hard to vote against TBBT but it's GoT!! and Lie to me for me in the 2nd poll!

    ReplyDelete
  30. GOT and Pushing Daisies not contest at all.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Less than 40 votes separating Pushing Daisies and Lie To Me!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I just had to vote for GoT, even so I really love Big Bang Theory , most of all Sheldon, but Got is just epic ! I really think it`s hard for a comedy to compete with a show like GoT.
Second vote went to Lie to me ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I didn't care for Game of Thrones either but I only watched the pilot. Too much nudity for me and incest is always a deal breaker. I am completely opposite of most people so I think I might have liked GoT better if it were not an HBO show. For me HBO throws in excessive nudity, cursing, and violence simply for the shock value which merely distracts me from what is usually a decent plot.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Please, just no Supernatural win this year!!!

Game of Thrones wins out of course. The shows of the 2nd vote I don't watch, but since I like Tim Roth...

    ReplyDelete
  35. I think they do all that because the writers don't want to take time to write a story with a plot. I watched 3 ep and it did nothing for me, so went back to my SPN marathon. ;) I hated S2 of True Blood because it was all orgy all the time. Did not like the first ep of this season either, every other word was F something. Anyway it amazes me the stories that come out of SPN and TVD WITHOUT nudity and cursing. I have to watch what is said because my African Grey parrot picks things up FAST. BTW he loved the crow on TVD. lol

  36. First matchup was a difficult vote for me. To me, Game of Thrones (or more specifically, ASoIaF) is a good story that's poorly told, but The Big Bang Theory is a poor show that has rare instances of great jokes. No disrespect meant to those who enjoy those shows, of course. Just my opinion. So because I'm not a huge fan of either of them, I voted for the show I guessed would be the underdog in the match: TBBT.

As for the second round, Pushing Daisies is my second favorite show ever, so there's almost no way I could vote against it.

  37. pushing daisies and big bang for me :)

Yeah I voted for Game Of Thrones and Pushing Daisies

  39. Got is my Mack truck this year; I fear the moment it comes near to my longer standing favorite series. My God, even if it comes to GoT or SPN, I think I'll vote GoT.

Pushing Daisies made me happy, and that scene where Chuck pulls the wrapping thingy over Ned's lips and kisses him stole my heart. And Lie to Me got really boring really fast, Tim Roth's hotness notwithstanding.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Agreed on both. Everyone kept telling me how great GoT was so we tried it -- nope. Apparently we didn't get it. But to each their own. Now, TBBT is a hoot, no matter how many times you watch an episode. :) Can't even pick a favorite line, there are soooo many. As for the second poll - pass. Never watched either.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Exactly my thoughts. Does everything on HBO have to be soft porn? Can't they just tell a good story? We don't get HBO anymore, so no problem, but I'd love to see a good genre show there where the characters don't spend 1/2 the show naked. :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Game of Thrones and Pushing Daisies for me as well!
I liked Lie to me a lot and i miss it, but it doesn't compare with the uniqueness of Pushing Daisies!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I canceled HBO a long time ago for this reason.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I actually began keeping track of quotes again because of TBBT. So many great ones to pull out when needed.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I love TBBT and Pushing Daisies so those are my picks!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Most of these polls are hard. :-)

Game of Thrones - love both these series a LOT, but in terms of maintaining their quality...GoT wins out.

Lie to Me ( I got bored with Pushing Daisies faster than with Lie to Me)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Game of Thrones (no question whatsoever)
    Pushing Daisies

    ReplyDelete
  48. I voted for Game of Thrones (even though I love Big Bang Theory, too!), and I don't watch either of the other 2 shows, so I didn't vote for either of them :(

    ReplyDelete
  49. GoT!!!
TBBT is awesome too, but the epicness of GoT gives it more edge IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  50. This is a useless non-vote comment, I realise that, but anyway. :)
I miss my SPN rant so I'll disturb here!

I have my own little take on shows and films that are copied from best sellers, in that I usually don't like them.
Funnily enough it works the other way round too. I don't go for books that are written about original tv shows either.
I read all the books in the Game of Thrones series and for the most part they were entertaining, although everbody I liked died.
However when a book gets transformed into a show it usuallly loses those little details that made the books so interesting, for try as one may you can't cram a book as big as GOT into television hours.

As for the books written about tv shows. They are mainly directed to older teens for some unknown reason and are usually so banal that they seem to have been written by a five-year old.
    X
I am not a fan of sit-coms and the forced audience laughter of any kind, so that's out too.
    X
Pushing Daises and Lie To Me are not my thing.
    X
Maybe tommorow will be better. :)
