On the eighth anniversary of his wife and daughter’s death, Jane receives a message from Red John, making it difficult for Jane to focus on his current case and ends up putting the investigation and his career at the CBI in jeopardy. Ray Wise guest stars as Dennis Victor, the owner of a brokerage firm where Jane and Lisbon latest victim had been an employee, on THE MENTALIST on Thursday, May 10 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Ugh. After four seasons, isn't it about time Jane actually makes some headway with Red John? It was bad enough that last season's "Red John" was bogus but the lack of progression on the case coupled with this emotional torture and the fact that now Jane has the FBI on his ass is just way too much. Wrap it up.
ReplyDeleteAs always the end of the season will be a Red John episode, certainly the saddest of the year. I can totally imagine Jane loosing self-control and putting everyone in danger, and RJ safe again far away...until next move next year.

Huh, I thought the pilot was five years after his wife and daughter's death, now it's eight but we are at the end of season 4? Since when does 4 + 5 = 8?
ReplyDeleteI can't agree with you more... it's bad enough that all this season lacks of episodes about red john... but even the season finale?!?!? cmon!!!
ReplyDeleteI think it was only three years after their death. But I could be wrong.
ReplyDeleteNope the Pilot specifically says "five years earlier".
ReplyDeleteYou know next time I say I need to watch the pilot episode and don't then feel free to remind me of this.
ReplyDeleteUmmm okay, I was just correcting you. I didn't say anything offensive nor do I deserve this criticism. I didn't say you need to "watch the pilot again" I completely understand that some times people don't remember little details like that. I remembered it because I rewatched the Pilot recently. So no, I didn't mean any offense nor was I criticizing you, I suggest you grow some thicker skin if a small correction is all it takes to garner your ire...
ReplyDeleteI wasn't offend in any way. I was joking. I didn't take any offense to you correcting me at all in any way. Sorry you felt as if I was insulted but trust me I wasn't.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the misunderstanding, I guess sometimes tone doesn't always come out in text. Friends? :-)
ReplyDeleteDidn't think we stopped being friends. But yes friends.
ReplyDeleteHehehe good. BTW I realized afterwards that putting a smiley face is actually kind of creepy...what if I'M Red John??? :-)
ReplyDeleteI just watched the first 8 episodes of the first season and missed the 5 years earlier part, but read it online. Hmmm either they made an error or the timeline they have does not match the years the seasons have been on.
ReplyDeleteSeason 3 "Every rose has its thorn"
ReplyDeleteI assume, he don't gonna catch Red John this time.
ReplyDeleteHeller said this more than once, that the Red John Arc will end with the whole series. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm not tired of RJ. The few episodes including him are always amazing and gives perfect opportunity for character development too. Thats what I see for the season finale, a major development...
I'm also not tired of Red John. :) Can't wait to see this ep. what gonna Jane do.
ReplyDeleteyes. they did a big deal about Jane meeting Red John and they said it was for real, Jane kills him and gets arrested. come season 4, it turns out that it was not Red John and Jane magically convinces the jury to let him go scot-free even though he committed a murder and confessed to it... That was when I lost a lot of respect for the show.
ReplyDeleteI am not tired of Red John arc because the writing on the show is best when it comes to Red John episodes...I remember season 1 when every episode was so brilliant!
ReplyDeleteRight. Let's assume the anniversary of their deaths is May 2012 (air date of this ep). That puts the killings around May 2004, about 4 years and 4 months before September 08 (Pilot). Either they just said 5 years as an estimate (52 months is close enough) or the shows sense of time is slightly off kilter with realit...but arent many of them?
ReplyDelete1. The show has been mostly procedural with a few RJ eps FROM THE VERY START. This isn't new.
ReplyDelete2. This season has had more Red John related episodes than any previous one.
3. Who said the season finale had nothing to do with Red John? :S
Emotional torture? I always thought that was one of the most compelling things. I certainly don't want Jane free of this emotional torture, running around all smiles without a care in the world. Not just yet anyway. I LOVE EMOTIONAL TORTURE. unless of course you meant emotional torture for the audience? In which case, well...the same as above.
ReplyDeleteIm not tired of the show or Red John. At all. Can't wait for every episode...very excited for this one.
ReplyDeleteThat's awsome! :D
ReplyDeleteYep, i also can't wait!! :D
ReplyDeleteThat people say they're tired of RJ episodes is
ReplyDeletesomething I would never understand, >.< but ever since I saw people
complaining I started keeping track of the RJ eps, it turns out that as you
say, they're not THAT MANY! *facepalm* unless they're talking about this
season, which it the one that has the most RJ related eps.
**(not a full RJ plot episode, just a mention at
some point)
RED JOHN EPISODES:
Pilot
S1E11 Red John's friends
S1E23 Red John footsteps
S2E08 His Right Red Hand
S2E23 Red Sky in the Morning
S3E03 The Blood on His Hands**
S3E09 Red Moon**
S3E16 Red Queen**
S3E23-24 Strawberries and Cream
S4E01 Scarlett ribbons
S4E03 Little Red Book**
S4E07 Blinking Red Light
S4E13 Red is The New Black**
S4E17 Cheap Burgundy**
In 4 seasons, 90 aired episodes, just 9 full plot
episodes and 6 mentions or showing at some point, that's not too many. This is
the only series that I can say without a doubt and categorically that I love
all seasons, all the episodes, RJ or not. I hope The Mentalist goes on for many
years.
I like that they are doing an episode about the anniversary, I always love the episodes where we get to see more of Janes past/feelings.
ReplyDeleteNonetheless I hope that the RJ storyline stays convincing (the season premiere this year already felt slightly off for me)
Well I'd count S4E11 'Always Bet On Red' as a Red John episode as well, definitely. Anyway, I agree with your post completely. I love The Mentalist - stand alone episodes and Red John!
ReplyDelete>.< Oh yes, forgot about Darcy snooping around Jane and the Panzer murder! *updates list*
ReplyDeleteNo, I did mean the character's emotional torture. I have nothing against such things unless they endlessly prolong it like this show is doing.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I didn't really like the fact that Jane was out of prison just like that after he killed man ! Whatever psycho he was ! Can't wait for the next episodes !!
ReplyDeleteIt was obvious that it wasn't really Red John. Bruno Heller has always stated that Jane will not finally get Red John until the series finale. The core of the show has always been that dynamic, heck every episode title has something to do with "red" for a reason. Jane meeting Red John I could believe but killing him? Nope not until CBS announces it's the final season.
ReplyDeleteOh I understand that "real time" and "TV time" are two separate things, I just like poking fun at it.
ReplyDeleteYes, I know that. Bruno said that during season 1 and 2. But during the promotion for the finale, Ashley Gable and Bruno Heller said Jane will meet Red John and that it was real this time. Bruno went as far as say that "I can easily imagine a version of the show without Red John" But as it turned out, Jane did not really meet Red John and he killed someone else (for which he got out scot-free). The audience was manipulated by the promotions and the writers by telling us it was Red John only to turn the tables in season 4 premiere, I don't like it when shows do that. And I still don't buy that Jane could talk a jury into letting him free for a murder.
ReplyDeleteI agree with ur post. I love the Mentalist , it's very interesting story !
ReplyDeletethanks !
