How I Met Your Mother - Season 7 - Article on the Quinn "problem"

Read a pretty interesting article about Quinn and Barney/Quinn here. It explores why some viewers don't like her.

  1. I have to say that I agree with this, tbh. Plus, I definitely think Barney was so desperate after Robin's rejection that he's moving way too fast with Quinn and convinced himself he's in love with her.

I hope my feelings will change after the Barney/Quinn arc is over. She has to be there for some reason - Not just the one last woman before Barney marries Robin.

Gah, I desperately need the season finale in my life.

  2. Excellent article!

The sooner she's gone the better imo.
I just see her as a tool to make Barney really ready for marriage (to Robin).
So far everyone's major love interests have helped them in some way(like Don to make Robin choose love over her career, Zoey to make Ted choose his career over love, Kevin to show Robin is willing to get married) and Quinn is just another one of those.

  3.  I have no problem with Quinn whatsoever and frankly I'm a little tired of 'shippers endless badgering about such things.

If the writers spent less time on these relationships and more time making the show funny again HIMYM would be much better off.

  4. Meh, even Nora was better.

  5. Haha I love how they've named it "the Quinn problem"... I don't have a problem with her, to be honest. I've really grown to like her over the last few episodes, but that doesn't mean I think she's ultimately right for Barney.  I'm still on Team Robin, but I don't mind if Quinn sticks around for a while.

  6. There is that. Nora didn't use Barney for his money, like Quinn did, and never really apologized for.

  7. I'm not sure I agree with the last sentence, but I more then agree with the first one. The 'shippers are a bit sad. I realize you "want" one thing, but if something else would happen, your going to complain about it and cry because you feel you deserve better then that. I personally feel that Barney and Robin together is a little bit to easy. But again, just my opinion.

The relationship aspect of the show makes it feel more human to me. Makes you feel connected with everything these characters go through. I'm not sure anyone has a soul if they didn't feel like they took a bullet right to the chest when Marshall got the news about his dad, or Ted got left at the altar. For those who haven't been through some of the life altering things these characters go through, the dramatic impact of the show ( relationships included ) makes you know what it would feel like if you had gone through these things ( myself included ). "The talk" with Ted and Robin this year, and Robin finding out she can't have kids, all of these things make the show feel real. And bring an exceptional amount of seriousness to some of the things that go on.

And honestly, I think Bays and Thomas deserve a round of applause for hitting on all that emotional stuff and making the show feel real while still keeping the hilarious aspects intact. I won't get into the discussion of "this season is better than that season" but in my opinion it has been one of the few shows in recent memory to deliver laughs, cries, and the ability to connect with the characters that many other shows don't come close to.

Also, 7 years strong it's still as funny as ever, and delivering the highest ratings it's seen in it's lifespan. That's something 7 years in most shows can NEVER say.

  8.  I don't mind the emotional stuff or the grounded material.  My problem starts when the show's drama comes at the expense of the show's humorous (or what used to be humorous) quality.

I do not agree with you that the show is as funny as ever but, like you mentioned, the ratings are higher now than when I believe the show was at its peak so there's no motivation on the part of the producers to change how they're doing things.

  9. I like Quinn and sick of reading "she needs to go! Barney and Robin together now!"

People seem to forget that a story has a beginning, middle and end. If you're too impatient to stick around for the middle, then I'll see you at the series finale.

What I do think is a problem with Quinn, it's been such a short time for everything to happen between her and Barney, that it's unacceptable behaviour. I would be able to accept it better if she had appeared at the start of the season, and the relationship would have built from there. But shoving her in and only a few episodes later they are living together, it all just lazily leads to a bait and switch that we can see coming...at least that's what I think anyway.

  10. I totally agree with the first statement. Kind of annoying that some fans seem to threaten to just about stop watching the show if Barney/Robin don't happen, which is ridiculous. I love the show regardless of the couples involved, even if I do have my preferences, which just so happens to include NOT Barney/Robin. But if they do happen, I'm not gonna grumble about it and I'm still going to watch the show.

  11. Well, she IS a stripper, after all. It's her job. That'd be like saying any guy that pays to watch her dance is being played. Once she realized Barney was actually sincere in his intentions, she didn't keep taking his money.

  12. No, I like her too. But yes, many hit lists lol

  13. I think someone from the minority of liking Quinn should write an article about how they actually like her because they've gotten too tired of being stringed along by this whole Banrey/Robin thing.
Okay... so I'm, speaking for myself clearly... ;D
The thing is I'm done with hoping Robin and Barney finally get together. They've had their chances (PLURAL!) and they blew it everytime.
So here is this character who is fun and works well with Barney so yes, I'm totally on board and I hope she sticks around and is the bride and that they stay married.

  14. Very true. And I think we both have very good points. I guess my big points is: When this show is at it's "lowest" so to speak or is dealing with "weaker material" it's still better then 80% of the shows on TV.

  15.  Yes. Especially since it seems so obvious that Barney & Robin will end up together anyway. Why bitch about it when you know it's inevitable. That's like 80% of shipper comments in any fandom, "Get opposing love interest off my screen." Personally, I don't mind the variety.

  16. I tend to agree with you. Since she's actually gotten together with Barney, I don't think we've seen Quinn take advantage of him. As far as her doing it initially, I kind of liked that he was getting a taste of his own medicine. He's done far worse. So I couldn't feel too bad for him. I'm not extremely invested in Barney and Quinn's relationship, but I think they make a good match for the time being. It's pretty unlikely that they're going to be end game anyway, but I think she's pretty likable so far. I definitely like her better than Zoe and Kevin.

  17. I hadn't actually considered that...good point. Barney has certainly done far worse to other women, and he doesn't have the excuse of it being his profession. At least not officially lol

  18. Umm, Klutzy_Girl, what if Barney did actually marry Quinn in the finale? And you fummed all summer only for it to be annulled or some other equally ridiculous deus ex machina. Which would you be madder about?
