-Ratings Breakdown:
It was a typical Tuesday overnight victory for CBS, which aired its regularly scheduled combination of NCIS (#1: 12.2 rating/19 share), spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (#2: 9.5/14) and the recently introduced Unforgettable (#1: 7.4/12). Year-to-year, however, Unforgettable dipped from former time period occupant The Good Wife (8.9/15 on 11/16/10) by 17 percent.

Just last year Fox had a lock on Tuesday among adults 18-49. But deteriorating Glee (#2: 5.4/ 8 at 8 p.m.), which dropped by 35 percent from the year-ago night (8.3/12 on 11/16/10), means that CBS is now the network to also beat in the demo. Glee, no doubt, is a victim of the “too much, too soon” syndrome.

Freshman Fox comedy New Girl has leveled off at 9 p.m., with a third-place 5.0 in the overnights good enough to warrant a time period win among adults 18-49. But sophomore Raising Hope slid to a fourth-place 3.5/ 5 at 9:30 p.m., with 70 percent retention out of New Girl. One year earlier, a repeat of Raising Hope scored a 2.7/ 4 in the time period on 11/16/10.

On ABC, recent sitcom entry Last Man Standing is holding up with a now typical 6.0/ 9 in the overnights (#2) at 8 p.m. Compared to the first half of year-ago occupant No Ordinary Family (4.8/ 7 on 11/16/10) that was an increase of 25 percent. But lead-out Man Up! continues to drop the ratings ball, with a third-place 4.3/ 7 at 8:30 p.m. One year earlier, the second half of aforementioned No Ordinary Family was stronger with a 4.7/ 7. Retention for Man Up! out of Last Man Standing in the higher HUT level 8:30 p.m. half-hour, meanwhile, was just 72 percent.

On ABC at 9 p.m. was the live Dancing With the Stars Results Show at a dominant 11.3/17. So long, Hope Solo. And crime solver Body of Proof capped off the night with a second-place 7.2/12 at 10 p.m., which was 29 percent greater than failed year-ago occupant Detroit 1-8-7 (5.6/ 9 on 11/16/10).

Over at NBC, The Biggest Loser decreased by 11 percent from one year earlier, with a 4.1/ 6 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

The Biggest Loser (NBC)
8:00 p.m.: 4.0/ 6 (#4)
8:30 p.m.: 4.1/ 6 (#4)
9:00 p.m.: 4.1/ 6 (#4)
9:30 p.m.: 4.2/ 6 (#3)

NBC’s Parenthood, of course, finished last in the overnights with a 3.8/ 7 at 10 p.m. But the adult 18-49 finish, as always, will be much more competitive. As a reminder, upcoming NBC reality/competition Fashion Star, hosted by Elle Macpherson, inherits the Tuesday 10 p.m. hour on March 20.

The CW capped off the night with its low-rated combination of 90210 (#5: 1.3/ 2) and Ringer (#5: 1.5/ 2), which was equal in the overnights, on average, to year-ago occupants One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected. And there you have it…overnight results for the ninth Tuesday of the current season.

  1. I don't understand why Glee's ratings aren't as amazing as they were last year. Last season sucked, okay, but Season 3 is soooo gleeking amazing! Like the F13.

  2. yeah, I loved last night's episode - I thought everything from the music to the story was exactly what I found great about the show in the first place.. hopefully we'll see the numbers rise soon!

  3. Lol I've definitely had this conversation in the ratings before. Season 2 turned people off the show. Yes, S3 is good, but most people who were going to abandon jumped ship last season and didn't look back. If S2 had been as good as S1 or even S3, it would likely be doing much better.

  4. Yes, I think so too. But why don't people just jump in again? Isn't there any word-to-word,  mouth-to-mouth or whatever you call it!? The reason Glee was so successful in the first place was the music, and people can easily jump in again at this place.

  11. From my point of view, the poor story telling hasn't changed much. Storylines get dropped very quickly, there isn't really a hold onto reality and every single character goes along nicely then do something awful making the character unlikeable, the people who do like the cast finding out some of them are leaving so the characters they have invested in were for naught, some of the storylines in the first place are ridiculous, political race anyone? Will is possibly the worst protagonist in a show ever... and the most annoying, very little character development from some characters, some characters being reduced to extras as this cast expands exponentially, urgh so many reasons for people to leave this show.

There is also the fact that at the start this was really hyped to be a great and different show, and whilst that may be true, the show hasn't evolved to be anything different from what it was on day 1 and when you have better dramas on the air and you have shows like Pop Idol and X Factor on the air which arguably have better singers, it doesn't really leave much room for glee.
That said, the ratings aren't terrible and for me at least, whilst I hate it, I do still watch it every week (-most of the singing, I just can't stand a lot of their voices), but I do so because I don't have anything better to watch that night.

  14. Glee was great. Hope people will return to it cause it deserves it. It's one of the few shows with a real message, after all.
