The SpoilerTV 2017 Episode Competition - Day 9 - Round 2: Polls 1-4

DAY 9! (Results from yesterday can be found here.)

At the time of writing, the final four polls from the first round are yet to close, and I'll address anything major that happens in those tomorrow. In the remainder of the contests thus far, though, there has been just one major shock: back-to-back winner and reigning champion Person of Interest crashed out. Indeed, its series finale lost to The Librarians' "And the Rise of Chaos", bringing to a final end the CBS drama's participation in this tournament.

Two of the top eight seeds were knocked out, with One Day at a Time - which lost both its episodes - joining the aforementioned POI. It was something of a surprise to see the Netflix comedy gain such a high place in the nominations, but it always seemed as though Sense8 and Wynonna Earp, respectively, would be too strong for it in a straight head-to-head. A noble effort nonetheless.

The remainder of results leading into day eight were all pretty much as I would have expected. We lost some potential genuine challengers - Stranger Things, Once Upon a Time, 13 Reasons Why, The Walking Dead, and one of two episodes from Timeless, Sense8, Bones, Pretty Little Liars, and Legends of Tomorrow - but all except maybe two results from the opening 28 could have been predicted.

Now, we head into the second round, where things may not be quite so straightforward...

The rules are as follows:
1. Two episodes go head to head for 24 hours, going live and closing at 12pm ET each day. The episode that emerges as the winner will go through to the next round.
2. Vote for your favourite episode, and tell us what you voted for.
3. Tell others about the competition! Social media is your best friend in this competition if you want your favourite episode to win.
4. Be respectful. This is a competition, but be friendly. Let's not have any abuse directed at any person, fandom or show, as we've had on occasion in the past.

We open today with two comic book shows, Agents of SHIELD's "Self Control" and The Flash's "Finish Line". The pair beat cable duo The Americans and Bates Motel, respectively, in the opening round, and will find battling each other a much tougher test. Another intriguing contest then lies in wait as Major Crimes' fifth season finale faces Shadowhunters' "By the Light of Dawn" - both would appear to have the capacity to garner large numbers of votes, and it's difficult to know who might progress.

The 100, which was guaranteed one episode in the second round after facing itself last week, sees its fourth season finale take on Black Mirror's "San Junipero", which claimed victory over Black Sails' series finale to make it here in one of the smaller surprises. Finally, Lucifer's second season finale is up against Arrow's "Underneath", which defeated the Once Upon a Time musical to make it here.

My instincts tell me that the third poll may be the only predictable one today, but with this competition, who knows what will happen?
