The analysis below is based on the early household numbers and are NOT the same as the numbers that will be posted in the above table later. (See the About section below)

NOTE: The opinions expressed here are NOT those of SpoilerTV but of the Author of this Article, Marc Berman.

    Household Rating/Share
    CBS: 9.8/15, NBC: 8.0/12, ABC: 4.9/ 7, Fox: 2.6/ 4

Due to the second Presidential debate airing last night, the percent comparisons to the year-ago evening and the listing of winners and losers are excluded.

    -Ratings Analysis:
Not even the New York Giants versus the Green Bay Packers could out-rate Donald Trump versus Hillary Clinton. The second Presidential debate was top-rated on CBS, with (including the 24-minute analysis in the 10:30 p.m. half-hour) an estimated 10.4 rating/15 share in the household overnights from 9-11 p.m. The Sunday Night Football match-up scored an estimated 10.2/15 in the overnights from 8:30-11:30 p.m.
As a reminder, results for any live event are always rough estimates.

ABC’s coverage of the debate was on the map with a 7.3/10 from 9-11 p.m., while Fox in the 9 p.m. hour (overnight results for the network were not available at 10 p.m.) averaged a 3.6/ 5.

As a basis of comparison, here is how ABC, CBS and Fox fared in the overnights compared to the first debate on Monday, Sept. 26:

    CBS: Sunday, Oct. 9: 10.4/15 – Monday, Sept. 26: 7.2/10: +44 percent
    ABC: Sunday, Oct. 9: 7.3/10 – Monday, Sept. 26: 8.0/12: – 9 percent
    Fox: Sunday, Oct. 9: 3.6/ 5 – Monday, Sept. 26: 3.7/ 5: – 3 percent

CBS, of course, had the most compatible lead-in support out of an expanded edition of “60 Minutes,” which scored an 8.7/13 from 7:30-9 p.m. Earlier in the evening, the Eye net featured a football primetime overrun at an approximate 12.5/22 (#1) in the 7 p.m. half-hour.

    ABC opening the night with veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at a 2.9/ 5 at 7 p.m. (#3) into a 2.6/ 4 (#3) for tired “Once Upon a Time” at 8 p.m. And Fox opened the evening with a repeat of “The Simpsons” (#2: 2.8/ 5 at 7 p.m.) into “Bob’s Burgers” (#3: 3.1/ 5), an original installment of “The Simpsons” (#4: 2.2/ 3) and a repeat of “Son of Zorn” (#4: 1.4/ 2) from 8:30-10 p.m.
