The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. alum will play Roman, a member of the shadowy organization that sent Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) to the FBI. Roman is also a familiar face from Jane’s past — a flashback to her childhood in season 1 featured a boy with a scar on his face.
“He’s very, very, very protective of Jane, extremely protective of Jane,” Alexander tells EW. “He’s unpredictable, which is a really great character to play. [Luke] is fantastic, he’s just absolutely fantastic. He’s a cool, great guy, great actor, just nails that character. He’s such a great addition to the cast.”

Panjabi’s recurring Blindspot alter ego — who heads of a secret division of the NSA that has been tracking the Jane Doe case from afar — first turns up in the NBC drama’s Season 2 premiere on Wed, Sept. 14 at 10/9c. And she apparently gets a healthy amount of screen time.
“She has a lot of dialogue in the first episode,” leading man Sullivan Stapleton revealed to us last month at Comic-Con. Added exec producer Martin Gero: “Every day there was a three or four-page scene that she was driving. She’s amazing.”

Although few other details about the character are known just yet (other than the fact that she will actually wear knee-high boots at some point), showrunner Martin Gero explained at the Television Critics Association summer press tour that Panjabi is like the "soothing balm" that comes in and brings the team back together after the relationship between Jane (Jaimie Alexander) and Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) blew up last season.
The Hollywood Reporter has an exclusive first look at her arc and, judging from her bulletproof vest and the very serious look on her face, this is a character who isn't afraid to get her hands dirty in the field.
Panjabi was slightly more revealing about her character during the TCA panel. "You will have to watch the series to see if there is any mystery or what the character is. I really like the character," she said. "She is tough. She is tenacious. She is wild. She’s unpredictable."
