Doctor Who - Series 10 to be Delayed? [Rumour]

The latest issue of Private Eye is reporting that an unnamed source has said that due to "Steven Moffat's commitments to his other hit show Sherlock...there will be no full season of Doctor Who in 2016."

If this snippet of information is indeed true - Private Eye's history here has been hazy in the past at times, and is very vague in the reporting of this latest development - what does it actually mean for fans of both shows? It's quite possible that production of Doctor Who could be pushed back a few months next year, in order to concentrate on the fourth season of Sherlock first.

This would then mean that we could be looking at Series Ten of Doctor Who starting later than September 2016, and therefore it would carry over the end of the season into 2017. A split season much like Series Seven, with the Christmas episode in the middle. Or, there is the possibility that we could get a couple of 'Specials' with the new series starting in 2017 instead. Which is what we saw in 2009 when David Tennant's Tenth Doctor was still in the TARDIS.

Or, this rumour could be just that, a rumour that comes to nothing. Den of Geek have asked the BBC for comment and have received the following from a spokesperson this evening, "it's too early to confirm the schedule for future series at this point. We're all excited for the new series that starts on the 19th of September".

We will keep you updated of any developments.
