Ratings Breakdown:
ABC beat the four competing networks combined last night care of game four of The NBA Finals (Warriors 103, Cavaliers 82) , which scored an estimated 14.1 rating/25 share in the household overnights from 9-11:30 p.m. Comparably, this was eight percent above the 13.1/22 for game three on Tuesday, which translated into 18.77 million viewers and a 7.3 rating/25 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. This was also 34 percent above the 10.5/18 in the overnights on the year-ago evening for game four of the San Antonio Spurs at Miami Heat.
Earlier in the evening on ABC, which are also approximate, was another half-hour edition of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (#3t, 3.5/ 6 at 8 p.m.) and the half-hour NBA Countdown (#3t, 3.6/ 6 at 8:30 p.m.).
In season-premiere news, The CW may want to rethink that fourth season renewal of “Beauty and the Beast” given that season three opened with a mere 0.8/ 1 (#5) in the household overnights from 8-9 p.m. And it led into one-hour special ‘iHeartRadio Summer Pool Party 2015” at a 0.7/ 1 (#5) at 9 p.m. No one ever said that everything original on the broadcast networks would resonate this summer.
On NBC, which was also all original, an 8-9 p.m. edition of “Dateline” (#2: 4.5/ 8 at 8 p.m.) led into week three (and episode four) of David Duchovny “Aquarius” at a series-low 2.7/ 4 at 9 p.m. Comparably, that was down by seven percent from the 2.9/ 5 in the overnights one week earlier, which translated into only a 0.7/ 2 in adults 18-49 (based on the Live + Same Day data). Capping off the night was episode two of the third season of drama “Hannibal” at an embarrassing 1.4/ 2 at 10 p.m. (#3), which was 22 percent below the 1.8/ 3 for the sophomore season-opener one week earlier. Chances of a fourth season of “Hannibal” at this point are nil.
Elsewhere, Fox was flat from one week earlier with its drama pairing of “Bones” (#3t: 3.5/ 6) and “Wayward Pines” (#3: 2.9/ 5). And CBS populated the evening with encore telecasts of “The Big Bang Theory” (#1: 4.8/ 9), “the Odd Couple” (#3t, 3.6/ 6), “Mom” (#2: 3.4/ 6), “Mike & Molly” (#2: 3.5/ 6) and three-year old “Elementary” (#2: 2.8/ 5). About the Daily Ratings
Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.
The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).
Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.
Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).
Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.

ReplyDeleteIkr I was just expecting an ok show to keep me going until all the Summer shows started but it's totally blown me away. In fact so far the Summer shows have been impressing me a lot, Wayward Pines, Sense8 and Penny Dreadful have all exceeded my expectations. Hopefully Dark Matter can do the same tonight :)

Marc,CW isn't gonna rethink BatB s4 renewal-they're simply getting it to short syndication numbers & a proper ending like Nikita,HoD( same with happen to Reign next season much to your shock & dismay).Plus ,ints international sales are covering its cheap Candaian co production costs.Also,CW wants more year round programming,

Even though its HH rating is the same as last week, I hope Bones went up in demos, at least a little.

ReplyDeleteI heard this show was procedural then became serialized. Is that the cause why its ratings went bad? I've never seen the show but iZombie seems to dropping its procedural element and I'm afraid it could hurt its ratings.

ReplyDeleteWell, s1was procedural til about ep 16 then it was sea roused then s2 the first part was procedural then became serialized .Goung from procedural to serialized could've affected it's ratings but I think moving nights in s2& a decline in quality hurt it?

Yeah, sophomore is a second year while Hannibal is in its third. But Marc says chances of a fourth season are nil, so he's contradicting himself. And I think Hannibal might be renewed.

ReplyDeleteJust a quick question regarding 'Wayward Pines" -- Is it normal that the episode was already available online 12 hours before the official airing? Does it air in Canada a day before?

ReplyDeleteI don't understand why Hannibal is getting such low ratings, I find it totally gripping and the cinematography is stunning - unmatched on broadcast television.
ReplyDeletePlus there's still a whole bunch of other"high end" dramas yet to start. Summer television is now on par with fall television. Rectify, Ray Donovan, the Strain, Tyrant, Humans, Under the Dome, Zoo, TWD spinoff, and The Affair are all coming. What's even better is that's not all of them.

ReplyDeleteI don't think people are fans of the darkness anymore. It's beautifully made, wonderfully acted but the stories are dark. No matter how technically brilliant it is, people have tuned out. I'm on the fence myself.

ReplyDeleteThat's not even half! I always look forward to Summer way more than Fall, I really don't get why so many people complain about TV in Summer. I even watch more shows in Summer than I do in season.

ReplyDeleteTwo things: 1) Put Hannibal S1 and S2 on Netflix. 2) Let Netflix pick up Hannibal. Guaranteed you will see a world of difference in the ratings. No way Hannibal will compete with the second half of the NBA finals game.

ReplyDeleteI mean tough competition. The games are pretty much unbeatable don't even know why NBC is putting it out there so early. They have 4 months till fall season starts.
I do think they made a mistake in going with Amazon Prime. Netflix would have given it a broader audience for sure.

ReplyDeleteSeriously I've seen so many shows go to Prime that I wish had been on Netflix instead, Justified, The Americans are 2 examples. Netflix just seems to be a better site for getting people into shows.

ReplyDeleteWell seeing as how the story telling isn't exactly normal and works in a lot of visual images and metaphors I don't think most of America would get it. Bryan Fuller literally tells new directors you're not making an episode of television you're making an art house film. And how many Americans like those?
ReplyDeleteMaybe but that acclaim and cheapness of production has kept it alive, that and NBC seems to like it and regard it as their artful show that they keep around to show they have nice things. Thank God ratings aren't a test of actual quality.

ReplyDeleteI assume that depends on the individual. I don't have a problem understanding a thing about the show and I don't see anything that would make the average person not understand it either. It's not for everyone. I've grown iffy with it myself but it's still beautifully made TV.
