CBS Premiere Dates 2015/16 Season

CBS announced today a multi-phase launch for its new season, with fall 2015-2016 primetime premiere dates spanning the start of NFL THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL on Sept. 17 to the return of its top-rated Thursday entertainment lineup on Nov. 5.

“With many of the biggest hits on primetime television as well as THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL, we have the ability to strategically roll out our new season over several weeks this fall,” said Nina Tassler, Chairman, CBS Entertainment. “We’ve created a very focused scheduling and promotional environment to provide the best possible launch platform for new and returning series across the schedule.”

THURSDAY, SEPT. 17

Thursday, Sept. 17: NFL THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL premieres on CBS with Denver @ Kansas City (Pre-Game at 7:30 PM, ET; Kick-Off at 8:25 PM, ET).

PREMIERE WEEK

Monday, Sept. 21: The season premiere of THE BIG BANG THEORY (8:00-8:30 PM) leads into the debut of new comedy LIFE IN PIECES (8:30-9:00 PM), followed by the season premieres of SCORPION (9:00-10:00 PM) and NCIS: LOS ANGELES (10:00-11:00 PM).

Tuesday, Sept. 22: The season premiere of NCIS (8:00-9:00 PM) is followed by NCIS: NEW ORLEANS (9:00-10:00 PM), leading into the series premiere of new drama LIMITLESS (10:00-11:00 PM).

Wednesday, Sept. 23: A big night of reality that begins with the 90-minute season premiere of the 31st edition of SURVIVOR (8:00-9:30 PM), followed by the 90-minute season finale of the summer reality show, BIG BROTHER (9:30-11:00 PM).

Friday, Sept. 25: The 27th edition of THE AMAZING RACE debuts (8:00-9:00 PM), followed by season premieres of HAWAII FIVE-0 (9:00-10:00 PM) and BLUE BLOODS (10:00-11:00 PM).

Saturday, Sept 26: 48 HOURS premieres (10:00-11:00 PM).

Sunday, Sept. 27: 60 MINUTES premieres (7:30-9:00 PM), followed by the special two-hour series finale of CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (9:00-11:00 PM).

SECOND WEEK PREMIERES

Wednesday, Sept. 30: The season premiere of CRIMINAL MINDS (9:00-10:00 PM) is followed by the series premiere of new drama CODE BLACK (10:00-11:00 PM).

Sunday, Oct. 4: New seasons of MADAM SECRETARY (8:00-9:00 PM) and THE GOOD WIFE (9:00-10:00 PM) premiere, followed by the time period launch of CSI: CYBER (10:00-11:00 PM).

MONDAY, OCT. 26 AND THURSDAY, NOV. 5

Monday, Oct. 26: Following an original episode of THE BIG BANG THEORY (8:00-8:30 PM), SUPERGIRL makes its series debut at a special time (8:30-9:30 PM), followed by SCORPION (9:30-10:30 PM) and a comedy rebroadcast (10:30-11:00 PM). SUPERGIRL moves into its regular time period (8:00-9:00 PM) on Monday, Nov. 2, while SCORPION returns to 9:00-10:00 PM.

Thursday, Nov. 5: CBS’s Thursday night entertainment lineup returns with THE BIG BANG THEORY (8:00-8:30 PM) and LIFE IN PIECES (8:30-9:00 PM) moving to their regular time periods, followed by the season premiere of MOM (9:00-9:30 PM), the series debut of new comedy ANGEL FROM HELL (9:30-10:00 PM) and ELEMENTARY (10:00-11:00 PM).

    And once again I ask:
    1) Why does CBS think Cyber will do nay better on Sundays than the mothership.?
    2) How does CBS plan on fitting 3 comedies left out for midseason in there jam packed schedule. Angel from Hell might bomb and that gives them one free slot when it is pulled, but what about the other two? I don't see Life in Pieces to fall to "pulled from schedule" worthy ratings with the TBBT lead-in.
    3) Why not air Limitless at 9 since it has a chance of skewing young?

    I think Supergirl is premiering at 8:30 as the first episode is a hour and a half and the following week it will go back to it's regular timeslot of 8pm/9pm.

    1) They don't think so. They are counting on it having horrible ratings but on international sales/ syndication potential boosted by the CSI brand being enough to make it profitable
    2) My guess is as good as yours.
    2) Which 9pm timeslot would you suggest for that? They don't have one available. I think it should have aired Mondays at 10 post Scorpion, it is the most natural pairing there could be. The 9pms don't work because on Mondays, they really shouldn't demote Scorpion to 10pm (which is their biggest drama hit since CSI Miami, so really should be protected), on Tuesdays they know that New Orleans is way too weak to stand without NCIS, on Wednesdays they won't launch it against Empire and on Thurdays it would get stranded with the horrible November schedule and they need the hour for comedy anyway.

    1)
    CSI is a giant franchise, there's not only a name attatched to it but also multiple overseas syndication deals that require a higher ammount of episodes. If a franchise (like CSI) has been heavily sat in brand it's always a foregone conclusion for various places over seas that it'll sell, so they throw their money into the pot as well.
    It's not about immediate ratings for Cyber, it's about the long haul.


    2)
    Scrambling the episodes into a full schedule without re-runs. I could see TBBT/LiP go on hiatus in late december and being replaced by the rest of Angel from Hell. The more "new" programming they have the more they have to advertise.


    3)
    Because most sat in franchises are already occupying that spot. Plus: Limitless is already going to hit big (at least in CBS hypothetical future) due to the Bradley Cooper connection (I can already prophecize you that he'll be used for promotional material despite only recurring)




    The better questions should be: does CBS still care about creating new and creative formats? The network feels like a retirement home these days.

    Look at its line-up, all original shows are either spin-offs or adaptions that don't even attempt to be something new and amazing.

    All interesting shows are WB productions (POI and Supergirl)

    wich they turned into a procedural with a stereotyped heroine that barely empathizes the concept of Supergirl: a strong independant woman.
    In fact Supergirl reinforces some of the most sexist stereotypes I've ever seen (Kara being quirky, degraded at work, her female led company being all about gossip, focusing on ONE guy, barely defeating a "man", still bossed around by a man).


    I recently had a longer chat with a female variety reporter and she wasn't too hot on Supergirl either, in fact she had some choice words about it.


    Plus: it's produced by WB


    do you remember the Wonder Woman pilot? Now THAT one had a strong female lead

    Awesome that Scorpion premieres so quickly. Still that weird timing after using TBBT as a launching pad for Supergirl is going to throw me off. They couldn't have put a comedy on before TBBT and launch it at a more normal time?

    According to this, Supergirl's premiere is regular length (one hour). Scorpion airs at 9:30 and then they are doing a random comedy repeat after that. It's weird. I understand wanting to launch a show like Supergirl after your biggest hit but I would think they'd put a new comedy episode and then TBBT. Then have Supergirl and Scorpion just air an hour later than normal. Doing it this way, they run the risk of people watching something else and then coming into Supergirl halfway. It's a very strange decision in my opinion.

    Great news!!! Happy to see the premiere dates confirmed for my shows: NCIS: LA, Scorpion, The Big Bang Theory, Limitless, NCIS, NCIS: NO, Criminal Minds and Elementary.

    I totally agree. My only CBS show interest is POI now that Mentalist is done. I got tired of CSI after Grissom left. Never got into any of their spin-offs, and never got into Elementary, and never saw why so many love NCIS. It leaves me cold. So once POI is gone, CBS is going to have to come up with something wildly creative to get my interest. I'm kind of hoping Netflix or FX gets interested in POI and carries it on if season 5 ends it on CBS.
