The season premiere of New Girl opens where we left in May: Jess and Nick are “all in” in their relationship – they seem to be serious, guys! – and they decide to head to Mexico. Things can’t be perfect, right? Just when they are standing on the beach, things get worse for Nick, as a police officer approaches to check out... Nick tries to escape from the agents, even standing on “international waters”, but he is caught and sent to prison.
This is the first episode in which we see Nick and Jess as couple, and I must say: I really like them. I liked them before as friends, and I like now that they’re together. Their chemistry is still here: you can see how they smile to each others, and they’ve never been so natural like now.
Jess then drags Winston and Schmidt – who have their problems too – to Mexico in order to rescue Nick. At the hotel, the three bribe some employees to locate their friends – funny scene, in which every person just take the money and doesn’t say anything.
Also, Schmidt has his issues: he can’t choose between Cece and Elizabeth, so he prefers lying to the two of them, and having a secret affair with both.
The scene with Schmidt ‘using’ Winston as his accomplice is hilarious: the sentence “I needed your underwear to sew into my underwear” is simply brilliant, and you can see how Winston is so out of his character! Plus, we get to know something new from Winston: he is color blind, have you ever imagined that?
Speaking of him, I feel like Winston’s puzzling is kind of a metaphor for Jess and her friends: at some point, she says they’re like family and it can’t exist Jess and Nick without Schmidt and Winston.
In conclusion, I really enjoyed this episode. I laughed all the time, and I was looking forward to see Nick and Jess finally live their story, without the fear of hiding their feelings for each others.
Anyway, I think Schmidt and Winston will have to deal with the duo being together in the same apartment… and I bet it won’t be easy!
