-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led the midweek troops in the overnights, which featured the head-to-head 8-10 p.m. battle of The Voice on NBC versus The X Factor on Fox. The added competition did not negatively impact Survivor: Philippines on CBS, which tied the first hour of The Voice with a 6.7/10. Year-to-year, The Voice more than doubled the overnight performance of year-ago occupant Up All Night (original and repeat: avg. 3.1/ 5 on 11/09/11), while Survivor: Philippines perked up by three percent from the South Pacific edition one year earlier (6.5/10 on 11/09/11). Departed Jeff Kent last night was the definition of a sore loser. As for Lisa Whelchel: Go Blair!

ABC’s combination of sitcoms The Middle (#3: 6.0/ 9) and recent entry The Neighbors (#4: 4.4/ 7) finished third overall in the overnights in the 8 p.m. hour, followed by the first hour of The X Factor on Fox (4.9/ 7) and freshman CW hit Arrow (2.8/ 4). Comparably, Arrow built by 211 percent from a repeat of America’s Next Top Model on the year-ago evening (0.9/ 1 on 11/09/11), while retention for The Neighbors out of The Middle was modest at 73 percent.

Results among adults 18-49 should sway in favor of The Voice on NBC, no doubt.

At 9 p.m., Modern Family on ABC led the evening with an 8.3/13 in the overnights, but the second hour of The Voice finished No. 2 in the time period overall (behind Criminal Minds on CBS) with a 6.8/10. Comparably, that beat the second half of The X Factor on Fox (4.9/ 7) by a hefty 39 percent. Overall, The Voice averaged a 6.8/10 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. versus a 4.9/ 7 for The X Factor. As for Khloe Kardashian as one of the new co-hosts on The X Factor, the password is…awkward.

Tops in the 9 p.m. hour in the overnights was aforementioned Criminal Minds on CBS with an 8.0/13, which built from the 8:30 p.m. portion of Survivor (6.8/10) by 18 percent. Elsewhere, sophomore Suburgatory on ABC slipped to a third-place 5.2/ 8 at 9:30 p.m., which was 37 percent below Modern Family. And tired Supernatural on The CW sunk to a 1.5/ 5 2 at 9 p.m., which was 47 percent below lead-in Arrow. Now that The CW has a bona fide hit, it needs to put the lead-out hour to better use.

Modern Family versus The Voice among adults 18-49 is likely to fall in ABC’s favor.

At 10 p.m., veteran CSI on CBS remained first in the overnights with a 7.0/13. Comparably, that was nine percent above the year-ago evening (6.4/11 on 11/09/11). Next was Chicago Fire on NBC, which rose to a series-high 4.9/ 9 thanks to the lead-in support from The Voice. Expect a back-nine episode order for the new Dick Wolf drama at any moment. Five-week overnight track for Chicago Fire: 4.7/ 8 – 4.2/ 7 – 4.3/ 8 – 4.2/ 7 – 4.9/ 9.

On ABC, recent drama entry Nashville finished third at 10 p.m. with a 4.5/ 8 in the overnights. But that was, comparably, an increase of seven percent from one week earlier. Five-week overnight track for Nashville: 6.8/12 – 5.0/ 9 – 4.8/ 8 – 4.2/ 7 – 4.5/ 8.
