MOVIES : Möbius - Trailer : between Inception and Skyfall (feat. Jean Dujardin, Cécile de France & Tim Roth)

The way the title appears, the description of a Möbius strip and the overall mood feel reminiscent of the Inception trailer to me, but you could also say that the style of the trailer is clearly inspired by this Skyfall trailer. Either way, those are very good references, and I for one can't wait to see the film !

In case you didn't get what's it about from the trailer (which is pretty mysterious), the film tells the story of a FSB officer (Jean Dujardin as Grégory Lioubov, surname Moïse) sent to Monaco to monitor the actions of a powerful Russian business oligarch suspected of money laundering (Tim Roth as Rotovski). Moïse hires a Franco-American trader working here at a Russian-owned bank (Cécile de France as Alice) to monitor Lubovski. This will put Alice in a conflict between the FSB and the Kremlin and when she threatens to blow up the whole thing, Moïse breaches the golden rule : he makes direct contact with his undercover agent, falls in love with her and an international series of problems ensues.

The film was shot in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Kiev and Moscow from May 23 to July 31. It was written and directed by Eric Rochant, director of Les Patriotes (1994), Vive la république (1997), Total Western (2000) and Canal+'s original series Mafiosa seasons 2 and 3 (2008-2010, 16 episodes).

Möbius is an espionage thriller and the trailer is quite deceitful itself : the film is mostly in French, with big parts in English and Russian. It'd be pretty stupid to have three French-speaking leads (Jean Dujardin, Cécile de France, Émilie Dequenne) and having them speak in English :D. But according to the director's Twitter account, Jean Dujardin and Tim Roth had to speak Russian for their parts, Cécile de France spoke in English (as did Tim Roth, obviously), so it's very much a three-language film.

Beside stars Jean Dujardin (Brice de Nice, 99 F, Lucky Luke, the two magnificent OSS 117 (please watch those hilarious films), The Artist, Les infidèles), Cécile de France (the Klapisch trilogy, Haute tension, Un secret, the Mesrine diptych, Hereafter, Le gamin au vélo), Émilie Dequenne (Rosetta, Le pacte des loups, La fille du RER, A perdre la raison) and Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, The Incredible Hulk, Lie to Me), other cast members include Wendell Pierce (Bunk "Bunky Bunk" Moreland on The Wire, Antoine Baptiste on Tremé), John Scruti (Lou Shea on Rescue Me), Brad Leland (Buddy Garrity on Friday Night Lights), Eric Viellard, Aleksey Gorbunov and Vladimir Menshov.

The film will be released in France on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, and I'm sure it will be imported abroad in many other countries.
