-Rating Results:
Ignited by a 16.8 rating/29 share in the overnights for a half-hour primetime football overrun at 7 p.m., CBS inched past normally dominant NBC by one-tenth of a rating point. The Eye net’s regularly scheduled Sunday programming began at 7:30 p.m. with granddaddy 60 Minutes (#1: 11.6/19), followed by Emmy Award winner The Amazing Race (#2: 6.8/10), older-skewing The Good Wife (#2: 6.6/10) and relocated The Mentalist (#2: 6.2/11) from 8:30-11:30 p.m. Moving to Sunday was been costly for The Mentalist, which dipped by a hefty 28 percent from its year-ago performance on Thursday (8.6/14 on 10/06/11) and is no better than former time period occupant CSI: Miami.

On NBC, the San Diego Chargers at the New Orleans Saints on Sunday Night Football won the 8:30-11 p.m. block with an estimated 11.6/18 in the overnights. Earlier in the evening was pre-game Football Night in America at a 2.1/ 4 at 7 p.m. (#4), a 4.9/ 8 at 7:30 p.m. (#2) and a 7.4/12 at 8 p.m. (#2).

In season-premiere news, veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos on ABC opened with a distant second-place 3.7/ 6 in the overnights at 7 p.m., which dipped by seven percent from one year earlier (4.0/ 7 on 10/09/11). Next was Once Upon a Time at a third-place 6.2/ 9 at 8 p.m., which dropped by 14 percent from its week-ago season-opener (7.2/11 on Sept. 30), followed by relocated Revenge at a third-place 5.9/ 9. Comparably, Revenge was down by 12 percent week-to-week (versus a 6.7/10 on Sept. 30) and close to year-ago occupant Desperate Housewives (6.2/ 9 on 10/09/11), which at that time was a fading series.

In week two news, drama 666 Park Avenue on ABC slipped to a very distant third-place 3.7/ 6 at 10 p.m., which dropped by a hefty 30 percent from its series-opener (5.3/ 9 on Sept. 30) and 29 percent from short-lived year-ago occupant Pan Am (5.2/ 9 on 10/09/11). Since most new series drop in the vicinity of 10 to 20 percent in week two, this is severe.

The evening’s second season-premiere was animated The Cleveland Show on Fox at a fourth-place 2.7/ 4 at 7:30 p.m., which dipped from a repeat of lead-in The Simpsons (#3: 3.3/ 5 at 7 p.m.) by 18 percent. Next on Fox was the regularly scheduled edition of The Simpsons (#4: 4.1/ 6 at 8 p.m.), followed by Bob’s Burgers (#4: 2.9/ 4), Family Guy (#4: 4.1/ 6) and American Dad (#4: 3.2/ 5) from 8:30-10 p.m. The Fox animation is judged, of course, by the young adult demos. But outside of The Simpsons and Family Guy (which are both not the forces they once were), the night is lacking.
