Ratings Breakdown:
Football populated NBC remained in the Sunday overnight winners circle care of The Pittsburgh Steelers versus the Indianapolis Colts. Next was CBS, which is estimated, followed by Fox and ABC, which was off and positively running with 1963 set drama Pan Am.

The Pittsburgh/Indianapolis match-up averaged an estimated 13.0 rating/20 share in the overnights from 8:30-11 p.m., with the half-hour breakdown as follows. Keep in mind, of course, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

Sunday Night Football (NBC)
8:30 p.m.: 12.7/20 (#1)
9:00 p.m.: 12.8/19 (#1)
9:30 p.m.: 13.3/20 (#1)
10:00 p.m.: 13.1/20 (#1)
10:30 p.m.: 13.1/21 (#1)

Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game Football Night in America as follows:

Football Night in America (NBC0
7:00 p.m.: 1.7/ 3 (#4)
7:30 p.m.: 3.9/ 7(#3)
8:00 p.m.: 8.6/14 (#1)

In series-premiere news, highly publicized drama Pan Am on ABC was widely sampled, with a second-place 8.7/14 in the overnights at 10 p.m. Comparably, that outdelivered year-ago occupant Brothers & Sisters (7.0/11 on 9/26/10) by 24 percent. And it built from the season-premiere of lead-in Desperate Housewives (#3, 7.1/10 at 9 p.m.) by 23 percent. One year earlier, Desperate Housewives opened the season with a much heftier a 9.2/13 on 9/26/10.

From 7-9 p.m. on ABC was the two-hour season-premiere of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition at a 4.6/ 7, building by half-hour as follows:

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (ABC)
7:00 p.m.: 3.4/ 6 (#3)
7:30 p.m.: 3.8/ 6 (#4)
8:00 p.m.: 5.0/ 8 (#4)
8:30 p.m.: 6.1/ 9 (#3)

Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which was on par with one year earlier, moves into the Friday 8 p.m. hour on Oct. 21. If upcoming scripted drama Once Upon a Time bombs (and chances are it will), EMHE is likely to return right back to high HUT-level Sunday.

Due to an estimated 30-minute football overrun on the East Coast, all individual program results for CBS are approximate. The season-premiere of granddaddy newsmagazine 60 Minutes opened the evening with a solid (and second place) 9.5/16 in the overnights at 7 p.m. That led into the season-premiere episodes of The Amazing Race (#2: 7.1/10 at 8 p.m.), relocated The Good Wife (#2: 8.0/12 at 9 p.m.), and veteran CSI: Miami (#3: 6.9/11 at 10 p.m.), which just entered season No. 10. Although ABC’s competing Desperate Housewives will certainly have an advantage over The Good Wife in adults 18-49, The Good Wife beat the aging gang on Wisteria Lane by 13 percent in the overnights. Both The Aazing Race and CSI: Miami were close to year-ago opening levels. Desperate Housewives dropped by 23 percent.

Over at Fox, an approximate 30-minute football overrun kicked-off the night at a dominate 13.8/24 in the overnights at 7 p.m., which led into an 8.2/14 for post game The OT at 7:30 p.m. Fox’s strength falls within the young adult demos from 8-10 p.m., but season premiere episodes of its animated block performed as follows in the overnights compared to one year earlier:

Fox/Sunday
8:00 p.m. The Simpsons (season premiere) – 5.3/ 8 (#3): + 4 percent (5.1/ 8 on 9/26/10)
8:30 p.m. The Cleveland Show (season premiere) – 3.8/ 6 (#4): -10 percent (4.2/ 6 on 9/26/10)
9:00 p.m. Family Guy (season premiere) – 4.7/ 7 (#4): -22 percent (6.0/ 9 on 9/26/10)
9:30 p.m. American Dad (season premiere) – 3.6/ 5 (#4): -42 percent (from a 6.2/ 9 for Family Guy on 9/26/10)
