Shit My Dad Says - Review

This show has a lot of heart.

It's half way through the season. $#*! My Dad Says should be commended for having survived the first hurdles of a competitive Fall TV season. It didn't hurt that it was on CBS, a network who has rewarded its crop of fledgeling shows with a full season.

I first learned about this show from William Shatner himself, at this years Fan Expo in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. When you hear the guy talk, there is no doubt that he can carry a show. He has a sharp wit to match. The way he commanded the filled room, you know whatever he's involved with will get better with age.

As expected, Shatner as Ed Goodson is the strongest in the cast that includes Jonathan Sadowski as son Henry, and Will Sasso and Nicole Sullivan as his other son and daughter-in-law. If the acting seem stiff at times, it is probably owing to the fact that the writers have a habit of making last minute changes to get the best laugh. From some of the on-line reactions, I think it was worth it.

Episode 1.11 - Family Dinner for Schmucks
In this week's episode, Bonnie attempts to start a family tradition by having everyone sit down for dinner and talk about their day. Her plans backfire when Ed starts calling Henry a schmuck for not standing up for himself at work, not being ambitious enough.
Ed revives the tradition to tell his family about the young doctor he worked with. The guy may make more money, have a better job, is better looking than Henry, but he doesn't have Henry's character. He tells him that he wouldn't trade that for all the other qualities.
That's what it's all about. - 9/10

I have only seen five episodes and I am going to keep watching. If it were not for William Shatner, I probably would not still be in my present career, but that is not why I am tuning in. I like it because it might actually be good.
