Amazon has unveiled the creative fellowship behind their upcoming TV series adaptation. Markella Kavenagh is in talks to join the drama set to begin filming in 2020.

JD Payne and Patrick McKay serve as the showrunners. Juan Antonio (J.A.) Bayona (The Impossible, A Monster Calls, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom) is attached to direct the first two episodes of the fantasy prequel and will also serve as an executive producer, alongside his partner Belén Atienza. The project has a 5 season commitment plus a potential spinoff.

Amazon's Lord of the Rings series will take us back to Middle Earth during the Second Age where it'll explore new storylines preceding J.R.R. Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring.

"This team is our Fellowship — assembled from around the world, all walking the road together to try and accomplish something far greater than any of us could on our own. We feel humbled and extremely lucky to be surrounded by such inspiring and talented women and men," said McKay and Payne.
