    Ratings Breakdown:
It was an easy household overnight victory for CBS on this third Tuesday in January with its line-up of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 10.7 rating/17 share), “NCIS: New Orleans” (#1: 7.9/12) and freshman drama “Limitless” (#2: 4.1/ 7). But “Limitless” trailed competing “Chicago Fire” on NBC (#1: 5.5/10) by 25 percent and it slipped by a hefty 47 percent from the 9:30 p.m. portion of “NCIS: New Orleans” (7.8/12).

Earlier in the evening on NBC was “Hollywood Game Night” at a second-place 3.0/ 5 from 8-9 p.m., followed by recently introduced “Chicago Med” at a 4.8/ 7 at 9 p.m., which increased by 60 percent. Chances are there will be a fourth occupant in the NBC “Chicago” drama themed franchise next season.

In season-premiere news, two-hours of “Marvel’s Agent Carter” on ABC (in place of temporarily benched “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD) limped out of the return gate with a mere2.1/ 3 in the household overnights from 9-11 p.m. Like most superheroes-themed dramas, the traditional Nielsen ratings are just not all that impressive. ABC opened the night with 8-9 p.m. special “Marvel’s Captain America: 75 Heroic Years” at a similarly disappointing 2.3/ 4.

    Elsewhere, Fox could not compete with its revamped Tuesday line-up of comedies “New Girl” (#4: 2.2/ 4), “Grandfathered” (#4: 1.9/ 3), “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#4: 1.7/ 3) and “The Grinder” (#4: 1.5/ 2). And The CW populated the night with “The Flash” (#4: 2.5/ 4) and half-hour 9-10 p.m. specials “D.C’s Legends of Tomorrow: Their Time Now” (#5: 1.5/ 2) and “D.C. Film’s Presents: Dawn of the Justice League” (#5: 1.3/ 2).

  • About the Daily Ratings
Each day (except Sunday) during the main TV Season we post the TV Ratings for the previous nights primetime shows for the major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC). Cable Network ratings will be added to the Ratings Database.

The first item that gets posted (normally around 2pm GMT) is the early overnight analysis based on the early household numbers (these are not the same as the Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers that are posted later).

Next, if available, we will post the Top 25 Market 18-49 Ratings to give you a rough idea of the ratings to following.

Later on (normally between 4pm-5pm GMT) we post the official early overnight Total Viewers and 18-49 Demo numbers in the table above (We also where possible now post the 18-34 and 25-54 Demo Numbers).

Finally, later in the evening (10pm-11pm GMT) or the following day, the final adjusted ratings numbers are released, these are then posted in the Ratings Database. The Final Adjusted numbers are what we use for all our Renew/Cancellation Tables, Full Season Tables, Ratings Scorecards etc (see below). Friday's Final Adjusted Ratings are normally available on the following Monday.
