    -Ratings Breakdown:
Note: TBS aired the fourth – and final – game of the National League Championship Series between the New York Mets and the Chicago Cubs.

Fox owns Wednesday thanks to sophomore “Empire,” which stood well above anything else on the evening with an 8.2 rating/13 share in the household overnights. Comparably, that was just four percent below the 8.5/13 last week, which resulted in 12.22 million viewers and a 4.7 rating/14 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. Once everything else is factored in, this could be in the 20-million viewer range.

“Empire” lead-in “Rosewood,” which was recently renewed for the remainder of the season, finished fourth in the 8 p.m. hour with a 3.9/ 6 in the overnights. Comparably, that should translate into about a 1.4 rating in adults 18-49 (based on the Live + Same Day data). And “Rosewood” continues to benefit for the pre-tune-in for “Empire.”

In consistent news, the Big 3 nets and The CW were virtually identical to one week earlier. Veteran “Survivor” on CBS, another creatively satisfying season, opened with a dominant 5.4/ 9 in the 8 p.m. hour, followed by “Criminal Minds” (#3: 5.4/ 8 at 9 p.m.) and episode four of medical drama “Code Black” (#1: 4.6/ 8 at 10 p.m.). Comparably, “Code Black” increased by three-tenths of a rating point (or seven percent) from the 4.3/ 7 last week, and that resulted in a 1.2/ 4 in adults 18-49. “Survivor” will easily top the trio in the demo with an estimated 2.2 rating In the demo.

ABC’s 8-10 p.m. comedies – “The Middle” (#2: 4.9/ 8), “The Goldbergs” (#3t, 4.3/ 7), “Modern Family” (#2: 5.6/ 9) and sophomore “black-ish” (#4: 4.0/ 6) — were identical in the overnights from last week, which resulted in an adult 18-49 performance (based on the Live + Same Day data) as follows:

    “The Middle: 2.0/ 7, “The Goldbergs”: 2.0/ 7, “Modern Family”: 2.7/ 8, “Black-ish” 1.8/ 5

“Nashville” capped off the night for ABC with a quiet 3.2/ 6 at 10 p.m., which will be good for only about a 1.1 in the demo.

NBC, meanwhile, featured dramas “The Mysteries of Laura” (#3: 4.6/ 7), “Law & Order: SVU” (#4: 4.1/ 7) and “Chicago PD” (#2: 4.1/ 7), which offers an older-skewing alternative. And “The Flash” on The CW (#5: 1.7/ 3) led into a 1.1/ 2 for veteran “Supernatural” (#5: 1.1/ 2), which remains a strong presence in the world of social media. Unlike other nights of the week, Wednesday offers something for everyone on the broadcast nets.
