Throwback Thursday - The Secret Circle - Family + Series Retrospective Review

2 Jul 2015

Throwback Thursday, a weekly article in which we look back
at our favourite TV episodes from over the years.

The Secret Circle premiered on The CW on September 15, 2011 to 3.05 million viewers, and was an early hit for the network based on the first half of its premiere season. I wasn't very worried about the show being renewed for a second season because it was, for a lot of its run, one of the network's highest-rated shows. The honeymoon period was quickly over by the second half of its season, falling to some ugly ratings behind the CW's then-number-one show The Vampire Diaries. The ratings appeared unacceptable and the network cancelled the show the day after the finale aired.

I actually watched the series finale after the news of its cancellation, so I came into this episode cursing and swearing with every bad word under the sun because I really did like the show. I didn't love the show, which was a shame because it was my most-anticipated new show of 2011-12, as I thought there were some problems throughout its run that I thought were sort of being fixed as the season went along. There were some big hits and misses this season, and some other episodes I loved loads too, like Slither, Masked, Valentine, Crystal and Prom, but the season finale, to me, was the best episode and promised a big bright wonderful future for the show.

Alas, a season two didn't happen. A big shame, and I still miss the show even if it didn't blow me away like I wanted it to. But the show had a great finale, which is why I chose it for my turn of Throwback Thursday.

'FAMILY' REVIEW

I remember the CW showcasing the finale as "jaw-dropping". It really wasn't, but it was extremely exciting and entertaining, from start to finish. Watching the episode again last night had everything rush back to me - that Cassie and Diana are sisters with Blackwell as their father, and that Blackwell was a bad guy, that Faye had been kidnapped and was on a creepy-ass ferry, Adam was a nice guy, Jake was just there and Melissa, well, all I really remember about her is her name. But I liked her, she just wasn't very memorable. She had a great episode here though, but I'll get talking about that in a second. The basic premise of this episode is that Faye is being held on an abandoned ferry by witch hunters, the main guy called Eben. Eben was infested with those demon things - those eel-type looking things that enter people which changes them for the bad. The others have to rescue Faye, but Cassie and Diana are forced to rely on their father, Blackwell, to make the Crystal Skull that will unbind the circle so they get their own separate powers. Can I just say, I know that together they were strong and that's why the circle was bound, but it's so much better when they have their own powers - they're way more bad-ass!

Faye was awesome in her scenes. My favourite line of the episode being between her and Eben, when Eben says "you're nothing but a little girl in a cheap dress" and Faye replies "this dress is not cheap." Her life is on the line but it is very important to establish that the clothes she may die in were not cheap. It led to Melissa and Jake coming to her rescue, not that she needed it, because Cassie and Diana, at the right moment, unbound the circle with the family crystals which gave them all their powers back. So Faye was all "I'm back" and started kicking the witch hunters asses. I wasn't sure how I felt about the Faye and Jake romance (it's been a while since I watched the whole season) but their romantic connection wasn't very needed here. And Melissa and Jake didn't really help the situation when they all became captured by the witch hunters and tied to a pole. So close yet so far.

It also meant that Faye's mother came to save her and it was awesome. She literally blew the flames away with the wave of a hand. I was looking forward for some mother-daughter bonding now that Faye knows her mother is a witch too. Just dammit. I was glad when Jake killed Eben too - he really deserved it, and that would have been good to explore too if Jake felt any repurcussions from that. And Melissa, she was a perfect friend but I don't feel like she really came into her own throughout the season. I may be wrong, and someone who knows the show better than I can correct me on this, but did she do anything the entire season that was very memorable. I felt she needed more characterisation, and with the circle having their own individual powers, I was looking forward to seeing her develop more in the future. I loved Faye's and Melissa's little scene at the end, too, where Melissa turns the radio on with her powers and they just danced together. Friendship goals.

So, to me, the best parts of the episode was the Cassie and Diana dynamic with their father. I loved the whole trust issues between them, and Cassie wanting so badly to believe that there is good in him despite every other instinct telling her otherwise. Diana was far more reserved, and for good cause. The formation of the Crystal Skull was an awesome scene, and seeing Cassie seduced by it was great to watch too. I thought that story would have went a different direction, but it was good that Cassie asked Adam to get rid of it later on instead of trusting herself with it. And speaking of Diana, I actually really liked her chemistry with Grant and I found them quite charming. I was hoping she would follow her heart and run away with him, which is exactly what she does, so now I'm picturing them both living it up somewhere in the world, away from the dangers of magic, having the most romantic time!

And the best best part of the episode? The scenes in the abandoned house. They were quite intense and wasn't sure what Blackwell was going to do. I thought his plan to rid the world of witches was a bit silly, leaving only pure Balcoin blood. It was exciting though because it meant Faye, Melissa, Jake, Adam, etc. had more excitement for themselves when they started to burn. Poor Adam, didn't really get to do anything useful as he really didn't help save Cassie and Diana, and they ended up doing it themselves. I loved the moment where it looked like Cassie turned dark and started to use her powers against Diana, but it was all just an act to get out of the circle they were locked up in. It led to a good showdown with Blackwell that ended up with Cassie and Diana working together - stronger - to overpower him.

The ending promised a season two full of possibilities. We had Diana riding off into the sunset with Grant (well not exactly sunset but you get the picture), which meant she was leaving Chance Harbour, and whether or not she got very far is unanswered. Adam takes the Crystal Skull but for a moment seems seduced by its power. Faye ditches Jake for some bonding time with Melissa, and Cassie seems heartbroken that her only family - Diana - has left. But the creme-de-la-creme was the very end when we see the four unknown Balcoin children arriving at Chance Harbour. Gah!! That was an amazing end and it would have been so exciting to see what they had in store for our characters. Kills me that we will never know.

SEASON RETROSPECTIVE

So season one wasn't perfect, but I find a lot of premiere seasons aren't quite so perfect anyway. Even The Flash, which I absolutely loved (way more than Secret Circle) had some down and out episodes (but was generally perfect in my opinion), but still, shows have to find their feet and The Secret Circle was trying to find what made the show click. It should have had a second season, definitely, to further develop the characters and the storylines we were left hanging with.

As I mentioned, I loved other episodes too. My second-favourite episode was the Halloween episode, Masked. It's been a long time since I watched the episode (I re-watched the finale last night especially for this article) but what I do remember about it, was that it was awesome and creepy and I loved it. My favourite character was Faye Chamberlain, as I found her pretty bad-ass for the season and was more watchable than some of the other characters at times. I really do wish I had of watched the whole show again recently so I had a better memory of what happened in the show.

I found the first season was very slow to build up, and got good between episodes 4-7 with Nick's death and the Halloween episode, then started to deflate. But the last several episodes really built up the potential of the show and made it pretty exciting, and it would have led into an awesome second season. I just know it would have been an awesome second season! The CW, why?! Is it too late for Netflix to pick the show up?

  1. It's quite a tragic tale of the show's cancellation, but The Secret Circle is still very much missed among the fans of this short-lived show. Let me know what you guys thought of the series finale and the series in general. Let's mourn The Secret Circle together!

  2. Oh wow, talk about irony. I just started my yearly rewatch of The Secret Circle this morning! Anyway, god I miss this show to pieces. The first time around I was not as into it, I had so many ideas about what I wanted the show to be and at the time took it as a VD-ripoff. However, I appreciate it a little bit more every time I rewatch it, and somehow it just gets more entertaining. (Same with Eastwick kinda.)

The finale was a great one, it kills me that we'll never know what happened after Blackwell's children come into town. The one thing that did disappoint me? Killing off Blackwell. I wanted him dead, and since the show was canceled I'm glad we got to see it, but had the show run for several seasons he's a great villain to have waiting in the shadows.

You mention the slow build-up, and while that may have hurt the show in some ways for viewers watching it every week, I think it plays well for the show/season when viewed as a whole. There's quite a bit of groundwork laid out in the first few episodes.

RIP The Secret Circle, I miss the crap outta you. :'(

  3. Beautiful timing then haha, so awesome you rewatch the show every year (I do it with Eastwick haha, I miss both painfully). You must remember a whole lot more than I do of the Secret Circle. Blackwell's death was a little too easy for a villain that could have been part of the show for several seasons. Who knows, maybe the Blackwell children that arrived at Chance Harbour wanted to resurrect him once they realised he was dead?

I find that happens with a lot of shows - slow build up and loss of viewers before the pay-off, because it was building towards something. It's why I love binging shows, but some viewers are so impatient and want everything delivered to them right there and then. Some shows take the biscuit though (see Pretty Little Liars) haha. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts. We must never forget The Secret Circle :(

  4. Ohh Gavin. U really got me here with this article. TSC is a pain that I still can't forget the cancellation bear for inflicting. I adored this show so much that I wrote a fanfic based on the shows mythology about the 3rd Circle, posted it on funfiction.net

We already talked about our love towards the show and it is such a shame the show got cancelled, even though I understand the decision to do so, at least from the numbers perspective.

I liked the finale it set up so many great stories and I really enjoyed it. The twist with Charles being possesed, Diyana leaving and the other circle arriving. As far as I know the 4 that arrived weren't all Balcoins. That I read in a post finale interview.

Melissa was a solid character. Not so prominent like the other girls but she really worked well when she was griving Nick and interacting with Diyana and Adam. Jessica is a great actress and did some amazing stuff in Black Sails.

There were several mistakes made in constructing the show but still it really deserved S02

  5. Hey, thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts Spindae2 :D Sorry for getting you with this article, it's a pretty sore subject, I know :(

When I get time, I'll be sure to read your fanfic. Swamped with stuff at the moment but I'll be sure to bookmark it. Yep, we have discussed The Secret Circle before (which is actually what got me to pick this show as my next TBT article, so this one is dedicated to you) so I know how you feel about the show. Ahh I didn't know the four people that showed up at the end weren't all Balcoins. That's interesting actually and opens up even more possibilities that season 2 could have went down.

I did like Melissa, but she was never as "strong" as Cassie, Diana or Faye, and she was always overshadowed by them. I wanted more development for her. I wanted to see more of her strength and independance which is what I think season 2 would have given her since they got their individual powers. I actually loved Jessica from the Santa Baby movies haha I love Christmas films and I love her in those. I'll have to check Black Sails out, it's been recommended to me numerous times.

  6. I still think about this show. It had so much potential, especially after that cliffhanger with the Blackwell children. Faye was the best character( Phoebe Tonkin was so much better in this role compared to Hayley).
I had a lot of shows cancelled over the years, but this one really hurt. I just really want a show centered around witches, like Charmed.

    ReplyDelete
  7. still hurts, season 2 looked amazing. the finale really was epic. it opened so many exciting stories for each and every character that sadly we'll never get to see.
Faye getting her magic back, along with her mom
Jake getting some witchy gift and a warning from his crazy grandpa
    Charles rescued by his mom
    Adam seduced by the skull,
and Diana gets the Balcoin mark just as she's trying to run away from dark magic with Grant.
and then the Balcoin kids arrive
this is literally the best finale I can recall of any show.

  8. Thanks for reading Daniel. Totally agree about Phoebe Tonkin - Faye was the best character and I was pretty impartial to Hayley in Vampire Diaries. Witches shows are the best, but unfortunately never last since Charmed. I've been seeking a replacement too. Witches of East End was the next best bet but that was cancelled too. Now, I've got Salem, but it's way darker and not at all like Charmed, The Secret Circle, Eastwick, Witches of East End, etc.

  9. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts on this much-missed show :( This finale is one of the best, and I'm glad you thought it was as great as I do :D

  10. don't forget Katrina and Henry out of Sleepy Hollow too.
why do all witch shows get canceled so fast . it's like they're cursed :P

    ReplyDelete
  11. Awww Secret Circle. I was so sad to see it cancelled because there really was so much potential. I agree that the season definitely deflated a little in the middle and I didn't particularly like certain parts of the series but the finale was awesome and really got me excited for Season 2 but then The CW just had to cancel it :(

It's a bit of a minority opinion I suppose but my favourite witch was Diana. She did seem goody-goody at times but I think thats why I liked her, she was like a moral compass from what I remember and I loved the Cassie/Diana friendship and it made so much sense why they were drawn together when we discovered they were half-sisters.

I have to mention my extreme dislike for Jake, I don't know what everyone elses opinion is on him but I found him unbelieveably dull and too try-hard as a bad boy character. I much preferred his brother Nick and I hated that they killed him off, I know it made the show so exciting earlier on but I'd have preferred if the roles were switched and Jake was in the original coven and killed so then Nick would come to town to replace him but I guess the writers preferred to rid themselves of the only interesting male in the coven and replace him with a cheap knock-off.

Anyway, love this little throwback, I wouldn't mind rewatching the show someday as it did have some really strong episodes as well as the really weak ones, shame on The CW for cancelling it just as it was finding its footing.

  12. Ohhh thank U for dedicating this to me, Ur a sweetie!
U don't have to rush with reading the fanfic, not my best English (still think I build up a nice story) ;-)

Those 4 appearing at the end of 1x22 was mind blowing. It was really so amazing but heartbreaking with the knowledge the show was cancelled.
A thing I disliked is that they didn't explained how all the parents fitted the circle and how "our" circle could bound with D not being a Chamberlain(not sure if I spelled her last name right). People speculated that Charles had a sister and that she had an affair with Blackwell, but nope they didn't went that way.
All 6 characters had so much space for development, even Jack who was bit bland sometimes during the season. I liked he took that protective adult attitude/role at the end it suited him better. Melissa was sweet but surely not strong as the others.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thanks for reading and letting me know you felt about The Secret Circle Adam! So much wasted potential :( I remember the day it happened as well, with you and I talking about the renewals and cancellations and waiting for the news for Secret Circle, and you got my hopes up because you said it was renewed haha but then quickly found out it wasn't :(

Diana was pretty awesome, and quite possibly my second favourite character. I preferred Nick over Jake myself, and from what I remember I detested Jake too because he did seem to try too hard, but it's been so long since I watched the series in full that I don't know whether my opinions would have developed or changed. I would have preferred Jake be killed in episode 5 rather than Nick. Bless him.

Maybe we will find the weak episodes not-so-weak if we binged the whole season. Usually I prefer shows that way and I tend to enjoy seasons as a whole more too. But yes, big shame on the CW!

    ReplyDelete
  14. That's true, R.I.P. Katrina (and Henry). Though Sleepy Hollow isn't a witch-centric show, I loved their incorporation of witches and their history. Would love to see more witch-stuff on Sleepy Hollow, but I dount that will happen now :(

    ReplyDelete
  15. I always overlook spelling and grammar when there's a good story involved. That's what gets me invested - story, not good English ;) And I'm sure your English is fine :)

So much they needed to explain with character backgrounds and family relationships, at least from what I remember that all wasn't explained. I definitely found Jake to be bland and preferred Nick, but you're right, another season would have fleshed these characters out more. Makes me want to read the books now, have you read them?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yeah, maybe they will seem less weak while re-watching...or they might make us dislike them even more haha. Ugh!! I remember that day too because it was originally reported as being renewed but it was quickly taken down after around 5 minutes and changed to cancelled and I was devastated. That awful 2011-12 TV Season bloodbath!!

Hahahaha! Shame. Shame. Shame. *rings bell* Shame.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Haha could go either way couldn't it. The 2011-12 season had some of the worst cancellations since 2009-10 haha. Just can't go through a TV season without a devastating casualty.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I doubt I'll even watch Sleepy Hollow now.
they should do a spinoff with the light and dark covens at the time of the revolution.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The English is a bit broken, but as I kept writing I've got better. But we'll comment on that one day when U read it.
I read the first TSC book and I wasn't happy. Didn't caught me, maybe my expectations were too high cause of the show. I read it after the show aired it didn't make me wanna read the other books. I even backed out of reading the VD books. I even read the English version of the book on my laptop and I hate reading on my laptop more than 5 minutes constant. I even have the pdfs somewhere if U want me to send them to U via mail to check them out.

  20. I'm reviewing season 3 for SpoilerTV, so I'm going to go into it with positive thoughts. It's gonna be hard after season 2 but I have to haha. If you do give season 3 a chance, we'll have to discuss what we think of the episodes on my reviews. I'm sure it will be fine, but I would also love the idea of that spin-off!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Practice makes perfect :)
Shame about the Secret Circle book. I read the first 3 Vampire Diaries books and wasn't particularly taken by them, so I haven't read anymore. Thanks for the kind offer but I already have a huge reading list for University, having to get a head start on them now even though I don't go back to Uni for another 2 and a half months haha. So much to read, I can never read for leisure these days :(

    ReplyDelete
  22. I know what U mean. Reading out of passion became a privilege for me in the last 4 years. A lot of stuff happened and too much to do so no time for real reading.
But I hope in around 6 months when I'm done with college that I will get back to real reading.
    What are U studying?

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'm not gonna lie, I actually did like the show. I thought the aesthetics of it were pleasing. Of course it had it flaws, but I over looked them. This was one of the only shows that I was actually disappointed that it had been cancelled. I thought it was definitely improving in some areas and I thought the storyline could have taken a more interesting turn if there was another season.

I wish I could have imagined everything ending happily-ever-after like you did. Instead, I imagined this:

Right before Diana and Grant could leave town her siblings caused them to get into an accident so Diana would stay in town. Grant died, but Diana and Cassie lived together. With Cassie raising the fire in the chimney, I thought that she had become addicted to the feeling of her dark magic and would start to become irrational with it...which makes Diana being there all the more better, so she can keep control. Adam became addicted to the skull and never told anyone. He still had it until someone found out, but it was too late as he had already become a power hungry asshole. Faith and the other guy formed some sort of relationship, but the circle started to become divided because they couldn't trust Diana and Cassie based off their dark magic. And then cue Diana and Cassie's siblings who are bringing trouble to town. To be honest, I never really cared for Melissa. Jessica is good in Black Sails, but I found her character pretty forgetful...Probably the writing product of not fleshing out her character enough.

I think I might rewatch it, just for old times sake.

I can't even deal at the moment. This was definitely the most upsetting cancelation ever that I had to endure. I miss this show and will forever hold a place in my heart. I still remember the day it got cancelled and how I was optimistic because it was the third highest rated show on the CW but I guess it didn't matter.
I miss Phoebe when she had the role she was made for.
    R.I.P The Secret Circle :(

    ReplyDelete
  25. I think the old circle had more than just 6 families
both of Faye's parent were in the circle
both of Jake's parent were in the circle
both of Diana's parents were in the circle
both of Adam's parent were in the circle
    Cassie and Melissa's moms
that's already 10 different families, 6 is just the number of families that survived.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Aww so sorry to hear this show was so close to your heart and it was over before it could really get going, before it really hit its potential. I was optimistic too the day it got cancelled. Such a shame. Phoebe was totally made for the role of Faye. Thanks for sharing the Secret Circle love!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts Alex. Glad you enjoyed the show as much as you did. It definitely improved as the show went on. I love your interpretation of what could have happened next - poor Grant! But I secretly love that storyline, it would have been so good for Diana! It's a shame Melissa was forgetful as I feel the same, I'm sure season 2 would have fixed her. I think I'll join you in that rewatch!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Thanks for clearing that up - that's a lt of connections.

    ReplyDelete
  29. As far as I remember they specified in the pilot and the Jake Grandpa episode that there were 6 families pro Circle. They needed Cassie to complete the Circle, now is that related to the fact they need a member of all remaining families or is it a 6 family rule I don't know.
Overall it was an odd and not enough explored segment of the show.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ahh glad I'm not the only one suffering from this. I'm studying English Literature, and doing 6 modules a year (3 per semester) with a new book a week to study is killer! What are you planning on doing after college?

    ReplyDelete
  31. English Literature, neat! I thought of studying English as well but somehow twirled over to bio sciences. Not really sure what those modules are but great for U doing well and going strong.

Currently I have just 6-7 exams of Med school left. As Serbia isn't really full of perspective I'll most likely move to Germany to find a job and work there as a physician and applying to school myself into a pediatrician along the way.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm just a bookworm and love the world of literature so I thought I had to haha plus I love writing stories so I'd love to be a proper author one day :) The modules can be anything from Renaissance Literature to Victorian Literature and even Children's Literature, among other cool sorts of modules. I do love them so I can't complain, but 3 books a week can be a bit much when I have so many TV shows to watch and then review some of them for the site haha.

That's so cool! It would be an awesome step for you to move to Germany to get a job and stuff, if it's what you want to do then I say go right for it and don't let anything hold you back. Sounds like it would be an amazing opportunity for you, so all the best with that!

    ReplyDelete
  33. U'll do fine, the only important thing is to do something your passionate about and U clearly are. Okay I get what modules are but 3 books a week is certainly overwhelming. How many semesters do you have left?
Germany is great and really regulated country. Of course I would prefer to stay in Serbia with all my friends and family but it is almost impossible to get a job. And 25 with a college degree without a job is really sad. And I want to travel a lot (SDCC is on my to do list) so Germany is certainly my best option as I speek German very well (lived there for 6 years after my family escaped war in Bosnia in the 90s).

  34. This cancellation hurt a lot.....Still does.Sigh!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I loved the Secret Circle and am still pissed that it was cancelled on a huge cliffhanger. I know that there were highs and lows, but overall the ratings weren't that bad and it really picked up towards the end of the seadon. Not getting picked up for season two was quite a shock for me. An even bigger disappointment is that it was never released on DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sorry to hear that Joy! I've been very wary ever since too. Not good :(

    ReplyDelete
  37. Tell me about it Mel!! How can they never release the show on DVD? It's fine for me because I made my own Blu-ray of the show with all 22 episodes in high definition, but it's still unfair the show never got a DVD release. The show definitely picked up toward the end and it's a shame ratings didn't reflect that. I'm sure season 2 would have improved in ratings too had the CW just given the show a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thank you :) And I have 2 full years of University left, which means 4 semesters in total. And it sounds like you've thought the move to Germany through, you'll have to let me know if you take the leap. Very glad to hear of your family's safe escape from the war in Bosnia in the 90s!

  39. I cant even to express how hurt i was that this series was cancelled, the ratings were going down but the sereies deseved a chance and The CW didnt give it one.
And i wuill tell you an anecdote, a really dear friend of mine, i intreoduced this series to him and he losves it, and i mad the mistake of spoiling that teh guy that died was alive and man he hasnt forgive me for that one and now he spoils me everything i liked, we made of this a kind of game, who spoil what show to the other.

  40. The series definitely deserved a second season, even if ratings went down. Ratings usually bounce up in the Winter and erode in the Spring, so I'm sure season 2 would have improved. Season one averaged 1.83 million viewers and 0.8 in 18-49 - the CW would have been very happy with that in this day and age considering how much further shows have fallen since. Just shows how the television landscape changes over time. If only The Secret Circle started recently, I'm sure it would have survived.
Aww haha you spoiled Nick's return? Or was it a different character? Haha sounds fun though, spoiling things for each other :P If he watches Pretty Little Liars, and you find out who A is first, you cannot spoil that one to him haha cause that will be the mothership of spoilers!

  41. Loved The Secret Circle.. and Family was probably my favorite episode. The Cassie and Diana stuff was by far the best part of the end of the season.

  42. Totally agree, and it kills me that they would have explored their relationship further in season 2 but that will never happen :(

  43. Yep, Nick's return and he has hated me since then ahahaha, He spoied me GOT and he stop tellig me what shows he watch cause we are always ruining each otehrs episodes.

  44. Haha aww man Game of Thrones is a huge show to spoil! Haha spoiling Nick's return was very bad of you :P but nothing beats spoiling Game of Thrones! Surely there's a line somewhere haha.

  45. so far there is no line, he wants me to watch OiTNB to spoil mr everything.
Have you read teh books? i downloaded them but never get to read them.

  46. Haha ahh I love Orange is the New Black. Nothing really big happens on it to spoil really haha. And I haven't read the books either, I read the first 3 Vampire Diaries books by the same author and wasn't blown away so I decided not to read the Secret Circle books, but I might one day.

  47. I started teh first page and never read them again ahahaha there must be a file somewhere, but really, this show was good, it wasnt the best but it was good, the little twists here and there made it good.

  48. Haha good effort :P and I totally agree. Wasn't the best show in the world but it was good for what it was. Very missed.

  49. And i was pissed that teh follow up year they renew Beauty and the beast witch deklivered 0.5 and teh freaking show is still on air. ARE YOU KIDDIN ME!

  50. I know. I was pissed when they cancelled it. Was hoping it would get picked up by another network but we all know that didn't happen. Britt and Shelley were the standouts for sure.

  51. Can you do a Kyle XY Throwback Thursday review? The Secret Circle was so awesome, Faye was a hard character to like honestly, she may not have been a villain but she was teetering between likeable and unlikeable. I loved Jake and Cassie together

  52. I never watched Kyle XY (for a look at all the shows I watched and are now over, see my TV Show Graveyard article) but there are lots of other writers part of Throwback Thursday, I'm sure one of them will end up doing the show down the line. My next TBT won't be until about November now since we have a large team taking turns each week now. I'll try and check the show out :)

  53. I loved Britt in Under the Dome, and I quite like Shelley in Teen Wolf, but they were both perfect in this show. What a waste of talent :(

  54. Tell me about it! There are plenty of shows I wanted renewed over BATB that the CW decided to cancel. Ugh, don't get me started!

Now I'm nostalgic... I loved this show so much and that ending promissed a season 2 full of posibilities... I think this was the last CW show I got completely invested in, ever since I just watch them but I don't really get into them.

Butting in because of the books, sorry. You have to read the books, the first 3 ones, the ones LJ Smith wrote, they're far better than any of the TVD books I read (only the first 4). They're very different from the show but completely worth it. I would've liked a book series based on the show, though. Just to tie some loose ends.

Me too... this was the last show I fully invested myself into. Now I wait at least half a season before picking up a show.

    ReplyDelete
  58. lets not talk about that ahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  59. Half a season is a good time to wait, sometimes if a show really takes my liking then I just jump straight in, but a lot of the time I wait for a season to finish airing, see what the reaction is like, then give it a try. That's what I've done with The 100 which I will try soon.

  60. I fall asleep after my last comment, sorry.
Seems like we have everything planned out we just need to work it out. ;-)

  61. Still pissed about the cancellation. I really loved the show and I miss it a lot. Great characters, good story. Such a shame!

  62. It's very hard to get over the cancellation of some shows, including The Secret Circle. So much lost potential!

I wish they could do a reboot or telling a story of a new circle. this is my favourite show, still sad every time I think about it

  64. I'd love a reboot, and be happy that the show happened rather than sad that it's over :)
