    Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this third July Thursday in the household overnights care of its combination of encore telecasts of sitcoms “The Big Bang Theory” (#1 for the night: 4.8 rating/9 share) and “Mom” (#1: 3.8/ 7), summer favorite “Big Brother” (#1: 3.9/ 7), and season three of fading drama “Under the Dome” (#2: 3.0/ 5). There was nothing unusual there, with “Big Brother” expected to win the evening among key adults 18-49 with an approximate 1.9 rating in the demo.

NBC, however, doubled its overnight household rating from one week earlier thanks to the arrival of two hours of “Dateline,” a repeat telecast, in place of former time period occupants “Aquarius” and “Hannibal,” which were shipped off to Siberia (aka Saturday). The mystery-themed “Dateline” encore averaged a 3.9/ 7 in the overnights from 9-11 p.m., building from lead-in “Food Fighters” (#3: 2.6/ 5 at 8 p.m.) by 50 percent. One week earlier, “Aquarius” and “Hannibal” averaged only 1.3/ 3 in the overnights.

A potential bright spot on Fox, meanwhile, remains quirky drama “Wayward Pines,” which at a 2.6/ 5 in the 9 p.m. hour (#3: tied with “Mistresses” on ABC) increased from game show lead-in “Boom!” (#4: 1.5/ 3) by a hefty 73 percent. This should translate into about a 1.0 rating in adults 18-49 for “Wayward Pines” (versus an estimated 0.7 for lead-in “Boom!” and 0.8 for competing “Mistresses”).

Earlier in the evening on ABC was recent scripted entry “Astronaut Wives Club” at a second-place 3.6/ 7 from 8-9 p.m. And capping off the night was perennial Canadian summer drama “Rookie Blue” at a depressed 2.7/ 5 (#3) at 10 p.m. Comparably, “Rookie Blue” slipped by 25 percent from the 3.6/ 6 in the overnights on the year-ago evening.

Over at The CW, two more episodes of British sitcom “Dates” only matched the week-ago two episode opener with a 0.5/ 1 at 9 p.m. (#5) and a 0.4/ 1 at 9:30 p.m. And that resulted in only an average 0.15 in adults 18-49. Comparably, the 0.5 overnight rating in the 9 p.m. half-hour for “Dates” dropped by 37 percent from the already lackluster 0.8/ 2 for “Beauty and the Beast” from 8-9 p.m.

Hey guys, do you think with these number Under The Dome could earn a 4th season. I have no idea how Summer TV ratings work. I think it's pretty decent, I don't know. If someone does, please weigh in.

  3. It will be renewed, yes. It's safe

  4. I just read that the empire writer, Lee daniels is angry that they did not get a best drama nomination? What kind of behavior is that?! Empire does not deserve it even though it is good.

About the ratings: good for wayward pines

  5. I mean some people said it was a joke but it seemed to be pretty serious. Kerry Washington also was not nominated even though she deserved it, yet she is congratulating everyone around! That is how you do it. What do you think of Emilia clarke's nom? I do not underunderstand the hate. I think she is amazing in GOT. The dragons are tennis balls for her. That is all I can say

  6. He is ridiculous but this is not even the first thing. He looked liked a spoiled brat before when he was refusing to make more episodes per season like Empire was some huge prestige drama... Comes across like a spoiled brat. It's very of putting.

I like Emilia Clarke and I think she was awesome this season so I am happy for her. This being said, she wasn't one of my dream nominees and I think it is unfair that certain people were left out while she got in like Carrie Coon or Amy Acker, among others. So while I am happy, she wouldn't be my first preference.

  7. Agreed on the first point! I have lost total respect for him now! Because that is just ridiculous!

Yeah, there will always be some that are not nominated :/

I was also surprised that GOT "Hardhome" did not receive a best writing and directing nom. Instead "Mother's mercy" (Writing and directing!) which was exceptional and "Unbowed, unbent, unbroken" (directing) which was terrible, took those!

  8. When you have a show as sucessful as Empire, and even get an acting nomination, and all around possitive reviews, you have nothing to complain about.
How many low rated shows would have benefited from the emmys and deserved it more than Empire? Dozens, and yet you won't see their creators bitching about it.

Lee Daniels is acting like an over the top diva.

  9. They are ok-ish for the standard of scripted summer shows, plus it makes $900.000 due to its Amazon deal, so it's pretty secured to comeback for another season.

  10. I wonder if Dates could hit 0.0 at some point

  11. E4 had a 0.0 in M18-49, so I bet it is pretty possible

  14. I noticed that too! It's refreshing!

  15. Series low for Under the Dome sadly. Hopefully it adjusts up. I mean it's been given the best summer lead-in and yet it hits new series lows.

  16. You said it much nicer than I said it on the CNN page this morning. What an ass.

  17. I hope UTD adjusts up, I need to see the end for this show!

  18. Guess NBC did the right move. Yikes at Dates! Can't they just air Whose line/Penn& Teller repeat at 7 then move BATB to 8pm slot?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I know it won't happen, but I really wish Rookie Blue and Mistresses would switch timeslots.

  20. I need the ratings for Dominion, I'm too stressed about this show.

I disagree with you. Empire was definitely one of the best dramas thi season. And everybody thought it as well. Finishing off the season with a 6.89 rating and almost 18 million viewers it was clearly a very popular show. So I think Lee Daniels had every right to be angry- after all his hard work and all its success it should have been a shoe in for getting a nomination let alone winning the Emmy. So yes I think Empire deserved to win an Emmy.

  22. Erm Jussie was sniggering in that video, it was clearly a joke.

  23. Mistreses steady from alst week. I liek those numbers.

  24. I am not saying that it was not a great drama but when I compare it to shows like game of thrones and homeland, it just is not the same level of quality. I do not know if you watch any of the nominees but I do. Soap operas are generally not preffered by the emmy voters which in a way I completely understand. A year ago I did not understand how revenge and OUAT were nominated for best drama but I have learnt which shows deserve the nominations. Those shows have exceptional writing, excellent character development, a big cast, beautiful filming locations and focus on a certain theme. Empire IMO does not have all of that. While they (empire and revenge) are good shows, empire probably a bether in quality, they are just not emmy worthy

do we know about rookie's blue future?

  26. Everything I ever care about was Wayward Pines. Now that I know it won't have season 2, I'm feeling so disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It would need to fall about 67% to do that.

Thank you! I'm relieved. Are you still watching it after season 2?

  30. No, I dropped during season 2, the show went off tracks IMO.
However, I do hope it last long enough for those who still enjoy it
