GONE GIRL PREVIEW

The biggest question on our minds is - how is the show without Alyssa Milano?

Well. It's a hard one for me because I love Alyssa Milano and I have enjoyed watching this show very much. I loved Savi and it's a very hard thing to wrap my head around now that I've watched the premiere and she's gone. You hear her voice and you see a photo, but that's all the Savi you'll see. She is featured heavily in the premiere though. It starts exactly where season two left off with Joss and Harry on the beach. Joss gets pulled away from her rendezvous when someone gets put in hospital from the wedding venue. Savi being missing isn't something the girls worry about at first until the three of them get together and Joss receives a very ugly text from Savi when Savi finally replies to her. I did like the intensity of the whole Savi situation as Joss really goes into panic mode, including running after a car she thinks Savi is in. Alas, Savi has cleared house and she isn't coming back. I'm very sad about that. I can only hope she will make a shocking return later in the season, or is that wishful thinking?

April's daughter Lucy found out about her father's recent death in the season two finale - exposing the secret April had been keeping from her that her father was alive. There's a definite rift between mother and daughter now as April frantically tries to make it up to her. As you can see in the picture to the right, April invites Daniel's second family around so Lucy can meet her half-brother. Whether it goes well, I will leave it up to your imaginations. Karen found out she was HIV negative in the season finale, but there's something else that she needs to see the doctor for. The obvious picks would have been cancer or pregnancy - but it's definitely not one of those. It's something totally different and I wouldn't have guessed this new storyline, but the whole crisis Karen went through about her belief in God comes into play here. There are some sweet moments to be had with Karen and it made me pretty emotional too listening to her words.

Joss's life can probably not get any lower than when everything comes crashing down on her. She's partly responsible for the person going to hospital, she's responsible for her sister leaving town, as well as other developments that happen in this episode. Jes Macallan totally delivers in this episode though and we can feel the mental anguish radiating from our screens. She's between a rock and a hard place and she's trapped, not knowing what to do. Both Scott and Harry have a pretty rough time too and the little love triangle will soon decimate as Joss has to make a choice. Does she do the right thing? Another question on everybody's mind is how does the new girl fit in? Well, she only appears at the end and to be fair, I really liked her introduction. It didn't feel forced or out of place - it was quite interesting. I am still hurting from the loss of Savi so I'm going to try my best to keep an open mind with Calista.

All in all, it was a very good premiere. It had plenty of drama and a lot of issues were addressed, though my heart still aches. It's still the same old show, just one key player down, so once we get used to Savi not being there, I'm sure we'll be fine.

Now enjoy some dialogue teasers:

- "Why would I talk about anything to you? You lie."
- "I'm not saying it's Joss's fault. I'm just saying she's partially responsible."
- "I have made one bad decision after another."
- "Oh my God... Savi is missing..."
- "Most of what happened, I mean I don't like to call myself a victim, but I was."
- "I don't forgive you."
- "There is no rule I wouldn't break to save her life."
- "I just did what felt right in the moment."
- "You have to make a decision."
- "Now that I know... I can't not know."
- "It does sound like a pretty big commitment for a woman you don't even know."
- "I don't even remember your frickin' name."
- "Apart from having a fatal disease, my life kicks ass."
- "I've been on the other side of this fight before, sometimes these things have to be done."
- "People in glass houses do not throw stones."

I'LL BE WATCHING YOU PREVIEW

It's very hard to write a preview of this episode when you guys haven't seen the first episode yet as storylines carry over that I don't really want to spoil. So this one is going to be a little brief. The Joss and Savi saga continues in episode two as Joss tries to find her. We know she's fled the country, and thanks to Savi reaching out to April and Karen, Joss finds out where she is and tries to pin her down. Unfortunately, it doesn't work, and Joss keeps hitting walls. Fortunately for her, Calista comes into her life in an interesting way. I do admit, I am finding myself liking Calista - she's got a certain charm about her and she has some good moments herself. Pretty funny too. Turns out she's a fashion designer that Joss admires, so despite the two getting off on the wrong foot, they quickly become partners in crime. It's a good distraction for Joss as she tries to process the fact that her sister has abandoned her.

Karen ends up feeling abandoned by the girls and seeks solace elsewhere, questioning the longevity of their friendship now Savi is gone. I like the new character they have introduced as part of Karen's storyline. April is still having trouble with Lucy and I do totally relate but I am really feeling for April now. It seems like it doesn't matter what she tries to do, it just bites her in the ass. She is helping out Mark, the brother of Miranda, who is looking after Scotty while Miranda is away working. There is a potential connection between April and Mark and he is a really great addition as he is very charismatic. Harry has troubles at his workplace when a new boss comes in. He's a genuine ass and while I wasn't a big fan of Harry in the premiere, I rooted for him in this episode.

The episode ends nicely too for the girls. Gives hope that the show can still move forward in a positive way without Savi.

Now enjoy some dialogue teasers:

- "She's not writing me back and I didn't screw her ex-husband."
- "You may look happy but you're not, you're dead inside!"
- "He likes syphilis?"
- "Come on little slut, where are ya?"
- "If you tweet this, I'll kill you."
- "Well welcome to parenting. Jump on in, the water's warm."
- "I'm not handling it very well."
- "So what are you scared of Karen?"
- "I'm afraid with her gone our friendship will fade."
- "I can't believe you're calling me in this moment."
- "Do I know you?" "No, but I've heard a lot about you."

Got any questions about the season three premiere and the follow-up episode of Mistresses? What are you looking forward to the most? Gonna miss Savi as much as I will? Let me know in the comments and be sure to watch the episode when it airs June 18th on ABC!

  2. Can't wait for it to come back and still a little bit sad that Alyssa Milano left but it's her loss I guess as she didn't want to move to Vancouver for her kids

  3. I'm still sad Alyssa Milano left too and fortunately I think the transition is done well here. They could have done a time jump or something but fortunately they didn't so it feels very intense with her immediate departure.

  4. Nice preview! I look forward to watching the show again, especially Jess who was such an highlight last season and completely took over the show.
I'm quite intrigued to see what is going on with Karen and Miranda being back seems nice.
I'm just not sure if making it 2 hour is such an good idea(rating wise especially) but still I won't complain. ^^

Yes even though I know I will miss Savi I'm still excited to see what will happen with Karen, April and Joss.

  6. Veryy much looking forward to see what this show looks like without Savi.I can't wait to see why she leaves for good.

  7. Thanks for reading! Joss really did steal the show at the end of last season. Yeah I hope this doesn't affect ratings on Thursday. I'm guessing interest will be pretty high with the news of Alyssa Milano departing and fans wanting to check it out live to see what happens. The 2 episodes together are a sort of farewell to Savi as they both have Joss desperately trying to find and contact her sister. Maybe these are the only 2 to deal with it so that's why they're airing them together?

That's good to hear! I'm excited to see it!

  9. I tuned in for Alyssa back in S01 but stayed cause of all the girls, no matter how silly some of those storylines were.
I guess they want to benefit from the The AWC buzz and probably be done with the Savi story so they are those 2 together. I'm just glad Savi didn't fall down those stairs and died and made a reasonable exit, as much as that is possible. I hope Savi stops by at one point again for full closure.

  10. I tuned in for Alyssa too and just fell in love with all the girls. It's basically the same show, just Savi-less, which is sad but there's still a lot of fun and drama to be had here. I really do hope Savi stops by at one point in the show for that closure.

  11. Misstreses is my girly dosis of a tv show, after GG ended i didnt find one till this show came along. Im looking forward on how they will play Allysa's exit but i hope she returns and the producrers can work out something if the show gets renew

  12. I'd love for her to have a surprise return at the end of a random episode and then have a proper farewell the next episode. I know she wouldn't be able to stay for very long due to family and not wanting to relocate, which is totally understandable. But let's hope we haven't seen the last of Savi.

  13. I see chemistry between April and Marc

  14. They're a good pair together when they're on screen. He's very charismatic :)

  15. I hope they get together but I see angst for these since I read about them bring a principal to be with April

  16. I wonder if the location change would threw me off as a viewer. I enjoyed watching the show casually and see them shoot scenes happening in Los Angeles. Considering how temperate the climate of Vancouver is, it might take me a good deal of SOD to keepy myself together.

    That's my only concern basically.

  17. As much as I love Alyssa, I was so over her by the end of last season. I didn't hate her...it was just that her material was a bit too bland for my taste. I never was a big Dom/Savi shipper and I did not want her back with Harry for that matter...After the miscarriage storyline was done, Savi was done...for good it seems. Tho I did enjoy the wild side, this other guy whose name I don't remember, awakened in her. All in all Joss was the star last season, and I literally adored her badass personality from the very beginning, and she's sensitive too. I wonder what will happen to Scott, hmm...Can you tell us anything? Does Joss make a choice within the two hours of the premiere and it will be 100% obvious of what's the status of the triangle? I loved their sweet little relationship, they had a nice little build-up and could overcome all of the differences they had...and now Harry came...kinda out of the blue, that whole SL, but I totally dig that, McCallan and Tucker have amazing chemistry. So I guess I'm really conflicted, I'll be happy and a bit melancholic either way, ha.

  18. My sentiments exactly! After Desperate Housewives and Gossip Girl went off air, I was lacking that weekly dose of an all-female ensemble show...And then I fell in love with Mistresses.

  19. I can bet my marbles the thing with Scott will be resolved during the premiere.

Justin Hartley (Scott) has a prior committment at the moment with The Young and the Restless so pulling double duty is impossible.

  20. Thanks for the preview. I'm really looking forward to this. If the writing is good enough, I think that Karen, April and Joss can easily carry the show without Savi.

  21. i cant wait to see Jennifer Esposito, now they have the 4 girls with all four races, white, black, asian, black, lol... and i doubt we will see Alyssa unless they film her scenes in LA, lol ... i Love the relationship with Joss & Calista, im wondering another lesiban duet?, lol ...☺...

  22. It didn't throw me off as a viewer but to be honest I haven't really been able to differentiate between the two locations. I think if you notice those things, you might be thrown off. I hope it doesn't because the episodes were nicely written with good drama. Let me know when you see the episode if you could tell because I don't think I did.

  23. Thanks for reading, and the writing is as it's always been which is good because it makes you feel like there isn't too much change. The transition is easy, in my opinion. And the 3 girls are strong enough to carry the show I think.

  24. Jennifer Esposito did a great job here! Don't know if anything romantic will come from their pairing but they do have great chemistry.

  25. I felt the same as I needed a replacement Desperate Housewives but for me, I didn't fall in love with Mistresses right off the bat. It took me a little while to really get into it and now I love it! Not on par with DH but it gives me my weekly fix :)

  26. I mentioned a few times in my reviews of season 2 that Savi's storyline took a backseat but I think that was because of her pregnancy. That's why I was excited about season 3 because I thought she'd come back swinging after giving birth and could return to her top form, but then she left and I was crushed because her potential was squashed in season 2 because of her pregnancy and didn't allow her to give it her all. And do you mean Zack? He has a brief appearance in this season 3 premiere, as does Dom ;)

Yes. Joss makes a 100% choice in the very first episode as she chooses. It's very conflicting for me because they're 2 great matches cause Joss could go with literally anyone and kill it, but yeah, she chooses. Hope that helps while remaining vague enough for you to still be excited to check the premiere out ;)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think Justin Hartley is still down as recurring for season 3?

    ReplyDelete
  28. That's good to hear. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. I sure hope so.

It was a pet peeve of mine with Teen Wolf when they moved from Atlanta to LA even though, technically, the show is set on the more temperate part of California. The school's exteriors changed and a lot of California's woodlands doesn't give off that creepy vibe that Georgian woods offer.

  30. Gavin, great to be catching up with you again, and as always enjoyed reading your review, I enjoyed the return of the show and once I got over the initial shock of not having Alyssa as a part of the group, I think we will be ok and if she comes back, it would be great, I really felt Joss's pain throughout the episode she simply nailed it, her acting was awesome, the three ladies are still great, and the new additions are good, especially Marc I like him already, what can I say I'm a fan of mistresses:)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Nice to have you back too Brenda! The break between season 2 and season 3 was quicker than I thought it would be :D So relieved you still love Mistresses. Yeah, I feel exactly the same. It felt odd to think of the show without Alyssa but it looks like they will manage as the writing is still good and the actresses are still delivering. Joss especially! Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts :)
