    I'm only interested in this episode if it answers the questions Metatron asked about Castiel a couple episodes ago.
    He's done enough soul-searching on his own, most of the time in very boring episodes. It's time for Castiel to find his real place in Supernatural - by the brothers' side, as an ally who doesn"t keep wandering off into crappy b-plots.
    If that's not possible for some reason, he should just leave for good.

    I am so NOT interested in this one. I honestly don't know why the writers would think there was any interest in Claire and her ongoing teen angst. Who could possibly feel sorry, or anything else, for her? She's been written as a self-absorbed, completely cold teenager who doesn't give a crap about anyone but herself, and she continues to make dumb decisions and blame everyone else. I don't think the writers can fix that now.

    Cas and his ongoing daddy-guilt drama has made it exceedingly clear that Cas has no purpose to even be in the show anymore. I would like to know, since angels have no soul, how is it that Cas feels so much guilt and regret for Jimmy Novak's family. Jimmy made his choice - twice.

    This looks great, actually. I love Castiel dealing with human feelings and struggles. His character growth over the years has really improved.

    Well, me, for one. I feel very sorry for her. If my Dad abandoned me to play host to an angel, even if he didn't understand the consequences the first time round, well, I'd probably feel really insecure and start questioning a lot of things. And if my mother took off soon after, I'd end up deperate for any source of affection - which of course explains some of her 'stupid' decisions as you so lovingly put it. Going from a world of security and warmth offered by what was once a stable family unit, before having your world turned upside down, is going to leave its mark on anyone.

    And I'm truly, awfully grateful that the writers have written her as hostile as they have. They've allowed her to feel angry and righteous and not tried to mellow her out, which is good - all too often I've seen characters not allowed to express justifible anger against the main characters of a show, or they've not been allowed to keep it for some trite, silly reason, that usually ends up with them apologising. So in that way, I'm glad the writers have paid their respects to that.

    After all, if we can have empathy for Dean and Sam, we ought to have empathy for the lives of the characters they sometimes unwittingly play host to and upset. They may not be directly respnsible for Clare's plight, but she's right to feel resentful of them. She knows that given the choice, they would rather have Cas than her Dad around. And that's gotten sting, especially since she sees Cas as nothing more than a well-intentioned body-snatcher.

    Agree... Nielsen Ratings are tricky beasts. 10.20 might have surprisingly' high ratings' if the A18-34 are higher because of 'Claire' than the last string of very well received episodes where the 18-34's were 'down'.

    Maybe they're playing with the idea of a Claire spinoff. That would make some sense because she seems to be appealing to a younger demo and the character has a somewhat interesting supernatural background. She doesn't appeal to me at all, but I don't seem to be the CW's target audience. *whispers: Maybe Cas will join her on the spinoff - at least for a while.*

    That's the most prevalent assumption that I've read - The CW is 'testing' spinoff possibilities. I have zero interest in watching a Claire/angel centric spinoff either, though maybe many Nielsen viewers in that age bracket do.
    OTOH I would think CW's The Messengers (in lieu of an actual 'supernaturally-affected Claire/Angel spinoff) would be right up the youth -centric/heroic 'angel storyline' Nielsen fans' alley and it's bombing and I don't think it's just because The CW placed the show very late in the season on Friday. I'm aware that many 'Castiel fans' love (summer show) SyFy's Dominion, and Dominion's themes are more like TM than SPN.

    Is that what people are talking about? I don't get around much. If Claire is at the center, I would imagine that it would be more human/hunter centric than angel centric. Cas could be keeping his distance and dropping in to offer angelic assistance now and then. As I said, I'm not the audience and probably wouldn't watch, but there does seem to be an audience.


    I'd love to see them move Claire and Cas off to a spinoff and refocus SPN on a storyline with Sam and Dean at the center. I loved Cas's character a few years ago, but he doesn't belong on the show anymore. SPN would get such a quality boost from cutting loose the old characters who don't add to the story anymore and bringing in some new supporting characters (who preferably don't appear to have just popped out of a cartoon), who are relevant and whose presence contribute to building the main plot.
