Ryan Phillippe In Talks With Marvel For A Netflix Show

29 Apr 2015

This morning on the Howard Stern show, actor Ryan Phillippe told Howard that he was in talks with Marvel for something on Netflix. The 40-year old actor is currently starring in ABC’s Secrets And Lies… and ABC is owned by Disney. The major role that hasn’t been cast yet in the Netflix / Marvel deal is of course Daniel Rand / Iron Fist, Phillippe would definitely be a name to lead the fourth of the planned series. There has also been a rumor floating around about The Punisher joining the Netflix family of originals… he would make an interesting Frank Castle. Or maybe he is inline to be a villain… maybe even Bullseye for the second season of Daredevil.

  1. Can't they just cast him as Spider-Man?

It'd be great to know that a good actor fullfills that spot

  2. I'm not sure they want a 40 year old Spiderman though.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I still can't wrap my head around the fact he is 40. He looks younger than me,

    ReplyDelete
  4. Ugh, Ryan Phillippe's a terrible actor. I really hope this doesn't pan out. I fear he could be a deal-breaker for me.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I like him but: Not Danny not Danny not Danny...

    Bullseye? Maaaaaaybe... bit maybe...

    ReplyDelete
  6. It's that he has the type of baby face that ages well...

    ReplyDelete
  7. I wonder what that means for S&C?

    ReplyDelete
  8. He's an eye candy but the guy can't act.Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  9. It was already announced as an anthology series.Detective Cordell will move on from Ben to another new mystery next season.

He is so hot! I do agree with Joy that his acting is odd

    ReplyDelete
  11. I've seen him give good performances, but I'll concede he's kinda limited as an actor. Also his voice is waaaaaaay too distracting. And please note I do like him...

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yeah really well, but at times his "overathletic" body doesn't suit his head/face.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'll consider him in any role(Not any netflix show though) as long he promises to remain shirtless most of the time.LOL!Otherwise, not so much!

    ReplyDelete
  14. He is a hit and miss actor for me really..

    ReplyDelete
  15. Eh, the body I can deal with.
For me it's the voice that just doesn't match anything about him...

    ReplyDelete
  16. It must be a healthy life style.
Does Lucy Lawless look 47, Lynda Carter 63, Jane Seymour 64, or Jaclyn Smith 69 ?

    ReplyDelete
  17. Out of curiosity what have you seen him in?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I was shocked when i learned Lucy was 47!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. he looks 29 though

    ReplyDelete
  20. He does but even 29 is too old for where they want to take Spiderman.

    ReplyDelete
  21. His movies, many of them-The latest being Catch Hell.I did like him in Cruel Intentions though.

    ReplyDelete
  22. well...not that I'm agreeing where they want to take Spidey in the first place. Rather college aged than a teen

    ReplyDelete
  23. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 19:52

I wonder if they're in talks with other actors too. It'll be interesting if they're looking for a Punisher and would add into that rumor of a Thunderbolts miniseries after The Defenders.

    ReplyDelete
  24. And you didn't like him Way of the Gun? Flags of out Fathers? Stop loss? Crash?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well that's a problem I think you'll need to let go of altogether then....

    ReplyDelete
  26. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 19:54

I kinda want them to bring back the Spider-Man musical cast. I've enjoyed what I've seen of both the Spider-Man and Green Goblin actors.

...in fact the musical Goblin is my favourite version of the Green Goblin. He's totally channeling his inner Gaga/Madonna.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yeah, they all are quite youngish. But probably a combination of genetics, lifestyle and some devine powers.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'll give you Crash.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Excited for what it might be! Love him in secrets and lies and will miss him next season

    ReplyDelete
  30. Divine,you mean.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yes! Hadn't seen him in anything until Secrets and Lies and I love him in it. Really want to see him in more stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The enter Digg, Laurel and The Canary Cry to f**k Al Sahim's head! ;) Let's add Thea into the mix, too! This is gonna be good!

    ReplyDelete
  33. You haven't seen him in anything but that show?

Have you slept through the 90s and early 2000s? ^^

    ReplyDelete
  34. I think you might be on the wrong thread..

    ReplyDelete
  35. She ment Devina as in Adam Devine, the guy looks like 13 but is 31

    ReplyDelete
  36. No but in my defense I wasn't born till 95! When I looked him up though he wasn't really in anything that would be the type of thing I'd watch anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  37. LOL!She just said that was a typo.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Didn't the Spiderman actors rope rip?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:03

Multiple times. Apparently half the cast left after one of them nearly died.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Lol I think I'm the odd one out, most people seem to be much older than me, not that I actually know a lot of people's ages.

    ReplyDelete
  41. 95?You are making me feel bad!LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I was born in 94 so...

You need to watch Flags of our Fathers, Cruel Intentions, Nowhere, I know what you did Last Summer, Way of the Gun, Crash (WATCH IT NOW) and Breach ASAP

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ming-Na Wen doesn't look 51 either.

    ReplyDelete
  44. That production was a mess, never seen it but I would love to find some recording of it

    ReplyDelete
  45. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:08

I still hope they bring her back to play Mulan in the live action movie.

    ReplyDelete
  46. You are younger than me? That display picture makes you look like a guy in his 30s.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I know it was but it did fit, just look at the guy

    ReplyDelete
  48. WHAT?!

I....I look that unatractive and old?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Must just be a taste thing then, I have all those downloaded but none of them sound like my thing, haven't gotten around to watching any of them yet. I'll move Crash up to the top of the list though!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Erm, what?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Brent Wolgamott29 April 2015 at 20:09

Can't they just cast him as "Super Naked Man"? Isn't that a superhero character? Cause GAWD that man does NOT need to have any clothes on....

    ReplyDelete
  52. If you're into horror you'll love I Know what you did Last Summer, kinda started the whole teen slasher thing ^^

    ReplyDelete
  53. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:10

There was a full recording of it on youtube. Not sure if its still up. Goblin is amazing though

Here's one of his songs from Letterman:

    ReplyDelete
  54. And now I feel really old...

RP can be a miss sometimes, but that's pretty much my list of his good performances too.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I never said unattractive, that was you. But you do look old in that photo. And you do seem to have some stress lines on your forehead, or maybe it's just the photo.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Me too, and I'm only 23.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I guess I have my list then, wasn't sure which of his movies to watch. I liked the look of Catch Hell as well though.

    ReplyDelete
  58. They totally missed an opportunity at not selling the thing on DVD

    ReplyDelete
  59. LOL! Me too! Though I've never mis-posted in a thread yet, I know it's bound to happen eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:12

    ...your younger then me?
    Wut
    I feel so old

    ReplyDelete
  61. I was fishing there :P

Nah, I had my eyes wide opened there

    ReplyDelete
  62. Okay, now she doesn't look that young.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Don't worry, you're also more mature than me by dafault ;P

    ReplyDelete
  64. Fishing: success!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Oh my! Knife too my heart even with that information!

Someone born in the 80s come save me!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hahaha!This i totally agree with.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:15

    this x2

    ReplyDelete
  68. Maybe the know Adeline's secret. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Thank goodness! I'm 1985, so still older, but that's better...

    ReplyDelete
  70. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:16

Apparently they were meant to but Marvel axed it. A similar thing happened with the Japanese Spider-Man show because they were embarrassed by it. It became available through other methods though.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Hahaha!We have each other!

    ReplyDelete
  72. You should watch the Friends episode "The One Where They All Turn 30".

    ReplyDelete
  73. Could've made some money back the production clearly lost, their loss. I would've bought a copy

They still haven't released the 70s tv series on DVD yet...

    ReplyDelete
  74. It's what I'll do on my birthday!

    ReplyDelete
  75. That's only 8 years older though! I have brothers and sisters even older!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Don't be sad, you'll roll into your prime there!

    ReplyDelete
  77. now you know most of ours :P

    ReplyDelete
  78. double success! :P

    ReplyDelete
  79. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:20

    ...
I'm meant to be the mature one but then here I am watching Power Rangers on Netflix...

All Hail Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Don't give me lip kid! I'm older than you! :P

    ReplyDelete
  81. Who here isn't still rewatching the Mighty Morphin era? It's how we television addicts were born ;)

    ReplyDelete
  82. 51?! I didn't know that; I'm shocked. I thought she was like 30 or something around that

    ReplyDelete
  83. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:23

    ReplyDelete
  87. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:24

    Rewatching?
No Mac, this is the first time I'm watching Power Rangers. :)

I've watched the original Super Sentai for some of the series in Japanese. I miss how they cut out Rita Repulsa (Majou Bandora) randomly breaking out into song though.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Yes, this post went really off topic, all thanls to @maclives

    ReplyDelete
  89. Really? Can you take the show serious at all? ^^

I've never seen the Sentai but it's logicatically really interesting how they managed to cut together the US version from scraps of the sentai

    ReplyDelete
  90. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:29

For most of the animated Marvel shows you have to look at either Australia, the UK or Japan. They've gotten everything on DVD except the final season of X-Men Evolution.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:30

    Ah that young whippersnapper :P

    ReplyDelete
  92. I could see Phillipe as USAgent....or Speedball :P

    ReplyDelete
  93. didn't mean the animated series but the live action one

The 16th series which was adapted into the first series of Power Rangers is available with official subtitles if your curious: http://www.amazon.com/Super-Sentai-Zyuranger-Yuuta-Mochizuki/dp/B00P9UVC0I

It even includes all of Bandora's musical moments:

  95. *bows* why thank you kind sir.

Isn't that what I'm usually here for? To derail conversations ;)

    ReplyDelete
  96. And if you're into Tarrantino/Rodriguez type stuff Way of the Gun should be something you'll enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  97. PR was weird but this musical number is.....god-like xD

I'll buy that version (on a sidenote: am I the only one thankfull for Shout! re-releasing old shows? These guys have been doing an amazing job)

    ReplyDelete
  98. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:37

Ah that one, I think Marvel is embarrassed by that too :P

    ReplyDelete
  99. sure they are but that show was glorious, too glorious not to see a full series release ;)

    ReplyDelete
  100. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:45

Gotta love Shout! :) I was so happy when they picked up Jem And The Holograms and The Nanny.

Weirdest thing when a show about a pop idol is in the same continuity as Transformers G1, G.I. Joe and My Little Pony.

  101. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 20:47

;) not to worry, they made up for it by making this available digitally:

    ReplyDelete
  102. He is DEFINITELY too old to play Danny Rand. I think he would be cool as Bullseye.

    ReplyDelete
  103. MLP is in the same continuity as Transformers? I was aware that GI Joe and Transformers (plus MASK and TMNT) had some crossovers but I didn't know about My Little Pony o.O

Oh this cartoon looks so dated....LOVE it

    ReplyDelete
  104. lol, I've got to watch this xD

    ReplyDelete
  105. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 21:05

Years ago they planned a MLP movie where they met both the Transformers and G.I. Joe. It didn't end up happened though, however one of the transformers books lists MLP and various other shows as in continuity still.

Really! wow... I thought you were in your late twenties... I was born in 89 and I feel geriatric right now... You guys are making me feel old and I turned 26 last friday. I'M NOT OLD! yet...

    ReplyDelete
  107. I started feeling old when I said 10 years ago "wasn't that long ago" and I'm only 20...

    ReplyDelete
  108. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 21:15

It actually carries historical value. The Tokusatsu genre added giant robots due to this Spider-Man show.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Victoria Llanos29 April 2015 at 21:21

You know what make me feel the oldest? Music. It happens to me all the time, suddenly this song comes on the radio and I'm all like "OMFG! I used to love this song when I was in school!" and then I start doing the math and that was like 8/10/12 years ago, and I feel so old... I try to make myself feel better by saying it's not my fault they don't make decent music anymore, and then I realize how old that makes me sound and I feel worst, lol!

    ReplyDelete
  110. That's odd, well...

I'll check it out, seems like one of the cartoons ment to appeal to a more female demographic to blend fanbases.

As much as I might dislike the Transformers movie series I would love a shared universe between TMNT, GI Joe and Transformers. This would really be badass and fun to see on the screen.

Like Avengers, just featuring the toys we played with as kids (add MASK to the mix and I'd have to be revived)

    ReplyDelete
  111. Christopher DeBono29 April 2015 at 21:56

It was Hasbro's attempt to compete with Barbie but instead it developed a male fanbase which turned into a cult fanbase. The merchandise focused on girls though so it didn't sell.

Supposedly the G.I. Joe movies and Transformers movies are set in the same world. TMNT is questionable, I believe Hasbro only own the toy license. The upcoming Jem And The Holograms movie is rumored to be in the universe though (a Hasbro-verse).
