Scene Of The Week - March 29, 2015 - POLL

29 Mar 2015

A weekly feature in which we're trying to find the most compelling, best acted, written, directed and just generally great, memorable scenes that we've seen in past seven days on TV.

BATES MOTEL, "Persuasion", March 23, 2015, Actors: Olivia Cooke, Max Thieriot, The Scene: Emma takes the marijuana plants to Dylan
Darth Locke:
Although the bathroom scenes are probably greater scenes, I chose to save that for Best Moments of the Week, and this one for scene of the week, as it was one of the most comical and lighter moments of the season so far. There was just something great about Emma trying to hide with big dark sunglasses and a scarf, but yet she drives an orange WV Beatle and was wearing bright yellow contrasted with a dark to medium green clothes with the marijuana closing in all around her, making her look a poster child for the late 1960's!
Geo N: That scene was so funny and awesome at the same time.

BETTER CALL SAUL, "RICO", March 23, 2015, Actor: Bob Odenkirk
The Scene: Jimmy searches the trash for the evidence (picked by Bradley Adams)

CRIMINAL MINDS, "Rock Creek Park", March 25, 2015, Actors: Joe Mantegna, Thomas Gibson, The Scene: Hotch and Rossi interrogate the congressman's mother
Laura Markus:
Oh my goodness gracious, this scene was amazing to watch. At the end of the episode, the BAU come to the conclusion that the mother was somehow in on the kidnapping. So, like good agents do, they go interrogate her and ask her some tricky questions. They let her start rambling on about how hard it is to be a mother, and how much she loves her sons. And you know what they're doing while this is happening? Smirking, smiling, and laughing while looking and each other like, "We got our unsub." This was adorable, hilarious, and interesting at the same time. I love when these two work together, and seeing them smirk and laugh was just the cherry on top.

GREY'S ANATOMY, "With or Without You", March 26, 2015, Actors: Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, The Scene: Derek and Meredith's confrontation
Diana Mack:
Did he cheat? When Derek told his wife the truth, he claims that he decided to come back to Seattle because of their marriage. He wants to fix that because he loves her. Meredith claims she can live without him, but the truth is, she doesn't want to. I was afraid that Shonda Rhimes would have broken them up after 11 seasons, but thank God this didn't happen. Meredith and Derek are the couple of the show, it would have been no-sense to separate them.

HART OF DIXIE, "Bluebell", March 27, 2015, Actors: Rachel Bilson, Wilson Bethel and more, The Scene: Wade and Zoe's wedding
Justyna K:
I love these perfect happy endings, where everything works out and you finish watching with a genuine smile on your face and positive energy. It's the reason why I'm always glad to come back and re-watch some other episodes from the show's run and remember it fondly. So it was truly great to see the entire town dancing to their happily ever after in the final minutes, it was so Bluebell-like. But for my choice of the week I decided to go with Wade and Zoe's wedding, charming, funny, lovely and a little crazy, just like the two. With everyone standing by their side as Zoe is being taken to delivery room, it was such a beautiful moment for all. I usually don't focus on the romantic aspects of my shows but there are always a few exceptions to the rule and Zoe and Wade happen to be one of them. So this one's for the couple I'm just really happy to see ending up together, who got their chance and made the best of it. Kudos to the cast & crew, I've had a great time watching and I'm glad to be a fan of the show! You'll be missed, thank you.

HELIX, "Plan B", March 27, 2015, Actors: Alison Louder and more
The Scene: "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" Song Montage
Darth Locke:
Seeing Amy's face melt all Wicked Witch of the West-like, as she dances outside in the phosphorus was probably one of the best parts of the montage, since it becomes apparent that Julia and Sarah totally tricked her and she's not immortal at all.

JUSTIFIED, "Trust", March 24, 2015, Actors: Timothy Olyphant, Joelle Carter, Walton Goggins
The Scene: Ava shoots Boyd
Geo N:
Ava shoots Boyd as Raylan watches from a distance before Ava escapes with all the money Boyd has spent all season trying to steal. That had to be one of the best scenes of the series.

PERSON OF INTEREST, "Skip", March 24, 2015, Actors: Michael Emerson, Amy Acker, The Scene: Finch almost kills himself to stop Root
Justyna K:
These two have the strangest friendship I've seen. Their first meeting involved Root kidnapping Finch and killing at least two people on the way. It's been a long time since that moment, with Root finding her place in Team Machine and even looking for redemption. However, there's still a part of her which doesn't hesitate to take a life of an innocent person. Except now, she's doing it to protect the ones she cares about. And nobody more than Harold, it would seem. I find their unlikely friendship a definite highlight of the story and both actors are always at their best whenever they share a screen. It's no surprise then that Finch almost killing himself to stop Root from murdering innocent woman would be the most memorable scene of the episode for me. Harold's selflessness when it comes to protecting people is exactly one of the things that make him my favorite character on the show and Root's emotional reaction to his actions was such a powerful and beautifully acted moment. Kudos to the cast & crew for their continuous excellence at making this great series!
Jimmy Ryan: Harold makes a stand and swallows a sizable dose of neurotoxin Root had designated for another person. The stand he made right then and there was incredible, and Root was the most traumatized I've ever seen her. Michael Emerson and Amy Acker were outstanding throughout the entire episode as well as this scene. Also picked by Bradley Adams and Darth Locke
Diana Mack: Also, Root proves once again that she cares about people, first with Shaw, then with Finch. They have a very special bond.

POLDARK, "Episode 3", March 22, 2015, Actors: Aidan Turner, Robin Ellis, The Scene: Poldark takes the witness stand
Sandi:
Current Poldark faces the old Poldark, what a treat for the fans! Although I only have vague memories of the old series from the '70s I do remember Robin Ellis clearly, and I am very glad to see that he has a great cameo role in the new series. As for the scene itself, it's not surprising to see Ross speaking up for Jim even though he had tried a number of times to stop the lad from poaching already. He seems to bear the burden of his tenant's hardships while Wheal Leisure is yet to start turning a profit.

PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, "Welcome to the Dollhouse", March 24, 2015, Actors: Troian Bellisario and more, The Scene: A is finally revealed to the liars
Diana Mack:
The Charles guy who shows up when Spencer is watching some videotapes from her childhood. Anyway, despite the revelation, this show lost its steam, and I'm still wondering who is this Charles guys - even tho Marlene said she left hints during season 3-4-5.

THE FLASH, "Rogue Time", March 24, 2015, Actors: Carlos Valdes, Tom Cavanagh
The Scene: Wells talks Cisco out of leaving (picked by Bradley Adams)

THE GOLDBERGS, "The Lost Boy", March 25, 2015, Actors: Jeff Garlin, Sean Giambrone
The Scene: Adam and Murray reunite
Klutzy girl:
Adam and Murray reunite after losing each other at the stadium. It was unexpectedly emotional, which caught me off guard, and the hug was adorable. I love that Murray reassured him.

THE MIDDLE, "The Waiting Game", March 25, 2015, Actors: Neil Flynn, Patricia Heaton
The Scene: Mike and Frankie sing Boston's "More Than A Feeling"
Klutzy girl:
Mike and Frankie start singing Boston's "More Than A Feeling" after she and the kids caught him rocking out to it in the car earlier in the episode. It came out of nowhere but it was so sweet and I loved it. They're really cute!

THE MINDY PROJECT, "Best Man", March 24, 2015, Actors: Chris Messina, Rhea Perlman, The Scene: Danny has a meltdown when talking to Annette about marriage
Klutzy girl:
Chris Messina knocked the episode, particularly this scene, out of the park, because I wasn't expecting it and I felt horribly for him. He has more issues than we think, and I can't wait until season four hopefully explores what he and Mindy are like as parents.

THE MUSKETEERS, "Trial and Punishment", March 27, 2015, Actors: Santiago Cabrera, Alexandra Dowling, Marc Warren, The Scenes: The Musketeers take down Rochefort & Rochefort tries to break Anne down
Justyna K:
I still can't quite process all the things that happened on the finale but if there's one thing I'm absolutely sure is that it was great to finally see the Musketeers taking down Rochefort after all the pain and death he brought to the series. Marc Warren did a spectacular job with the character but I couldn't imagine Rochefort staying around after everything that's happened. It was a very impressive fight with Aramis and Constance saving the Queen's life and Aramis winning over Rochefort. Then everyone else shows up and each of the Musketeers takes a stand against their enemy. Not sure why D'Artagnan was the one to end the fight but I guess it was a way for all the Musketeers to take him down together. It's "all for one..." after all. Probably one of the most powerful part of this scene for me is the Queen's cold reaction to Rochefort's last confession and her asking Aramis not to close his eyes, as he didn't even deserve a kind gesture like that in her eyes. All the actors were at their best in the finale and I'm already missing the show. Kudos to cast and crew for the amazing season 2!
Sandi: So many phenomenal scenes in this finale, I wish I could include them all, but this quiet yet powerful moment between Marc Warren and Alexandra Dowling is my scene of the season. The defiance with which Anne responded to him after hearing him baring his soul about his time in the Spanish prison was exquisite, and obviously cut him as deeply as the torture did itself. Seeing Rochefort's obsessed love for his queen turning to jealous hatred right in front of our eyes, desperately trying to reach a part of her that he could never own, was far more chilling than any of the murders he has committed this season.

THE NIGHT SHIFT, "Fog of War", March 24, 2015, Actors: Eoin Macken, Jill Flint, The Scene: TC and Jordan talk at the end
Jimmy Ryan:
Tuesday's episode produced a really nice long take in the opening minutes. Lots of action and dialog involved, with a camera that was moving constantly. The Night Shift is making long takes a regular thing, and they're always really well done. TC and Jordan are my favorite couple on TV right now. They're interesting, funny, and the chemistry between Eoin Macken and Jill Flint is just awesome. TC put his body on the line in Tuesday's episode which put him in near critical condition. Jordan wasn't thrilled at all, but the closing scene of the episode which featured the pair was amazing to watch. The true love and dedication both feel for each other is fantastic, and the feel-good factor in this scene was off the charts. I'm not a huge couples fan, but The Night Shift is a major exception to that.

  15. Justified: Ava shooting Boyd and with 3 episodes to go! I love how this season has focused on Raylan/Ava/Boyd and now they are more connected than ever. And it is so sad because Boyd was so delighted when he scammed Katherine and Avery and moments later the love of his life shoots him!

The Americans: Elizabeth and the old lady talk as Elizabeth watches her slowly die. Well damn that was intense and so sad.

Fortitude: Henry and DCI Morton out on the glacier, beautifully acted and filmed.

Bonus: The Middle scene, yes that was amazing. Better Call Saul, I laughed and I was completely grossed out by the trash scene!

  16. Choosing Justified and The Musketeers :-)

    Honorable Mentions:

    1) Shameless: Sammi goes beyond any limits, interrupting Mickey and Ian's happiest day since Ian got sick. First heartaches of the week.

    2) The Americans: Elizabeth listens to Betty's nostalgic stories about her son and late husband before forcing the old woman to take her own life. Second heartaches of the week. Give an Emmy to these two amazing actresses.

    3) Vikings: no, no, no, no, no. I'm still in denial. No, no, no, no. I can't. I refuse to think about it. Ragnar's monologue, anyway. Third heartaches of the week.

    4) Black Sails: good Lord, where to start?! Vane and Flint, basically, and Silver's painful loss of his own leg. As a fan of Stevenson, I'm utterly happy and satisfied of this season and this crew. They know what they are doing.

  18. The Root/Harold scene was one of the most powerful performances from Amy Acker and Michael Emerson this season in an episode that while i thought the whole episode was great and fun isn't even in my top 6, but top 7 this season for sure. Season 4 has been amazing despite people complaining about this weeks episode and acting like the season failed... People its a cool down period, but its over now and now we are jumping back into the big Archs, happy ?! but yeah it being their best scene together this season says alot because they have had many great scenes with each other this season.

  19. Has to be the one pictured for POI. So much happens there thematically (not to mention emotionally).

  20. Yeah, Root looks so mentally and Emotionally strained given everything that has happened this season. it was very sad to watch and she keeps making me tear up, on top of being in a scene with michael. Amy and Michael have had so many great scenes this season with completely different tones you could honestly pick any but this one was too much on the feels if you get would i mean. Michael and Amy have truly been having an Emmy award caliber season and deserve the chance.

  21. The Americans: The conversation between Elizabeth and Betty as Elizabeth slowly watches her die. An Emmy-worthy moment
The Americans: Martha tells Phillip about the male robot and he questions her for details. Another heartbreaking scene where it's obvious that Martha finally realizes why Phillip married her and he doesn't deny it.

Flash: Barry realizes that Wells is bad and talks to Joe about it

Arrow: Oliver defeats A.T.O.M:. I have to admit that it gave me a lot of satisfaction to watch Ray buzzing around his shiny new suit, smirking over gaining the upper hand over Oliver, without noticing that Oliver was systematically studying his movements to figure out the weakness in Ray's suit. Nice strategy Oliver. I also liked the conversation between Oliver and Ray after the fight, where they both came to a truce. I actually like Ray, but I found him overbearing in this particular episode, so I enjoyed watching him get schooled by Oliver.

OUAT: Ursula reunites with her father and gets her voice back.

  22. Really? Where is AOS??? There were a lot of great scenes (Hunter's escape, "Skyeward" etc.) but especially the "Fitzsimmons" scene. Fitz is my personal hero giving Simmons a piece of his mind. She deserved it very much, her attitude is annoying.
