  1. Amazing finale, a very emotional episode! Can't wait to hear all your thoughts :)

  2. Wonderful! So much depth, the crew of this show deserves a great deal of praise. The performances were heartfelt. Was totally enthralled through the whole show.

  3. Wow
I am just trying to catch my breath
That episode was everything and more
I had guessed a lot right in my head except that I thought we we going to see Catherine one last time ( glad we did not).
Will post more once I can get my thoughts organized.

  4. i need to know..:) just read the tweets.didn't see it..is aramis going to be back next season? other than that it sounded great, can't wait to see it next week!

  5. maybe she will be back next year..they do need some new villains

  6. Hey there kodiak bear, great to see a new face over here on the Musketeers posts! There were some amazing performances in the finale, there aren't many actors who could have you feeling for them during their well deserved demise like Marc Warren did just now for example. And Ali Dowling's "I never once thought of you" reply when Rochefort told her how he endured the torture all those years was sublime!

  7. Wow!!!! Love it can't wait for next season

  8. I was sure we'd see Catherine again too, perhaps next season? There's more to had there surely. Same with Vargas, it feels as though some ground work was being set up with his character too imo. Pete Sullivan was great, I loved how sarcastic he was as the Musketeers had to storm their own Palace to get him to the King XD

  9. I'm still trying to get over how I actually felt horrible for Mi'lady! Last year she was so utterly evil and this season, when she said how she wanted to feel joy again, ah, that was absolutely lovely and then Athos was delayed and she was heartbroken all over again and I felt sorry for her. What the hell LOL! Last year we all wanted her to die. Well done show, well done indeed!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yes, I hope she is too, Marianne Oldham was brilliant in The Accused. I think there's a lot that could be done with her character!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yes! I've had exactly the same turn around with her this season, Maimie has been wonderful to watch this year. Her character has grown a hell of a lot under her own steam and I have much prefer seeing her make her own choices rather than be controlled by the Cardinal. There's a lot of fragility in her despite the tough exterior, which has been compelling to watch unfold.

  12. It ended with the other three saying that if Aramis knew about the war he would be back in a heartbeat, he does love a good scrap after all, lol. Treville then says, go and get him then but be back before the troop ride to the border, so off they ride to get him as the credits roll.

    ReplyDelete
  13. That's the way to do a finale!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I am assuming they will all be back although not sure how they would fit Milady in but then again I thought the same last year. I am sure Aramis will be gracing our screens again. It was great to have nobody we cared about die.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Now it all makes sense when Mamie said we would feel sorry for her when it was all said and done.

  16. ITA...... Season 3 can not come soon enough.

  17. ohh thats so good to hear! thanks sandi!!

  18. My heart is still pounding.I cannot believe that they were able to get that many things in one hour of television. I cheered, I yelled, I laughed and I cried. I thought that last week's episode was amazing but it was only a prelude to the finale.I loved the first series but OMG it gets better and better. I know the third series is going to be even more spectacular. The Musketeers is England's best export to America lol.I must go back and watch again and maybe again and again.I will comment more later. Sandi I have no idea how you could keep this to yourself. I bow to you, you are amazing!!

  19. Just awesome.. I didn't think they could top last season's finale and they did. I think I will be smiling for a week!

  20. I know, I hate the thought of Friday coming as it means the season really is over then :(

    ReplyDelete
  21. Years and years of practice, plus I have screeners for so many different shows in my head at present you would be amazed if I told you, lol. Glad you enjoyed the finale, it was an epic one imo!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Usually anything with Sean Pertwee would win just cos it's him, but in this case I have to agree, this was phenomenal! You really do have to watch both episodes together too, to get the full effect, it's one hell of a ride :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. I loved last season but this season finale was so much better IMO. This really was a season where I felt they had a slow start but once episode 4 happened every episode just got better.

  24. Now that, my friends, was a finale. :) Very satisfying. A lot of what I wanted to happen did happen, but I was surprised at some things also. I loved Constance's rescue, the standout there was Treville. Him getting in Rochefort's face and telling him without hesitation that he was choosing his friends had me applauding the good Captain. Constance was wonderful throughout. I could've done without the wedding thing, but oh well. Aramis making a pact with God and then having Milady come to his rescue made me chuckle -- yes, God does work in mysterious ways. I rather felt sorry for her. She finally acts unselfishly and on the side of righteousness and she still ends up alone. Although Athos went to her, he was too late. I'm sure we'll see her next season. There will be some intrigue from England to bring her back. I wasn't expecting Aramis to actually resign, but I was so relieved that they went to retrieve him. Athos was right, if Aramis knew about the war with Spain, he'd be there. He would never sit by while his brothers were fighting. And yes, he does love a good scrap. :)

I loved Porthos in this. His joy at being able to fight and plan was a sight to behold. Howard Charles was wonderful. They were all wonderful. Santiago when at the trial was so tight and coiled I thought he'd explode. And his line to Milady about not taking death so lightly -- after bashing the guard's face into the stone pillar -- was wonderfully done. Too bad about MArguerite, but really, there was no other option for her. She had allowed herself to be manipulated and there was no way to redeem herself to anyone. She was finished at court, she couldn't let Rochefort control her anymore, so she did the only thing left. I liked that it was initially Aramis who defeated Rochefort. He still tried to fight with Aramis' sword in his back, but he was already finished. Why d'Artagnan was so pissed I didn't get. Yes, Rochefort caused Constance a lot of pain and fear, but no more than anyone else. I thought Aramis deserved the kill more, so I was happy to see him get the first cut.

And the hugs. Anyone who was hoping for the brotherhood to shine through will be ecstatic. When Aramis returned to them after escaping was heartwarming. Athos kissing him on the cheek, Porthos wrapping his arms around him and d'Artagnan hugging him like he really meant it. The same goes for the hugs when he told them he was resigning. Especially Porthos'. It looked like he was going to cry, the big softie. And it was Porthos at the end who said it just didn't feel right, just the three of them, which prompted them to go retrieve Aramis from his self-imposed exile.

Louis finally got a clue, and even apologized! Wow! And Anne was wonderful. So brave and so fierce. Truly not a woman to mess with. So now Louis is declaring a war on Spain which leaves them open to go so many directions next season. And Louis truly believes Rochefort lied about everything and the Dauphin and Anne are safe. But he is still Aramis' son and that can still play out. Maybe Louis will die next season? Who knows. But I'm quite OK with how this season panned out, which is a trick considering how slow it began. I can only sit back and wonder what they have in store next year.

  25. When I first saw the trailer for episode 9 at the end of Prodigal Father, I got very concerned for Aramis. I even chatted to another reviewer friend of mine I know from another site to see what she thought, but although she had the screener she wasn't that far ahead. I was worried that because it made it look like Milady & Louis could be dying in it (they'd never give away a death in a promo!), but then Marguerite said run to Aramis it was hinting that he could actually be the one to be concerned about in episode 10 instead! lol.

Ever since Merlin, I worry about Santi going part-time, or god forbid leaving, another British show. There was always Jessica's ominous tweet about a sad day in the back of my head too, lol.

  27. Fantastic finale! As a Constagnan shipper I'm extremely happy! Something about the episode felt rushed in some spots and dragged in others. But overall wonderful. My thoughts are still a-jumble over it and so not able to write too many coherent thoughts. I may have to watch it again for details and things I missed.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't want the season to be over yet..maybe never!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I really liked the short time we saw Milady with Aramis during his escape...sorry, rescue ;) They make an interesting pair who spark off each other well, I'd up for seeing more of their interaction in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I thought the same thing.

  31. Great finale, can't really say I am surprised with it though since it happened exactly as I predicted it would, closing all the ongoing plotlines and laying the foundations for S3, Rochefort defeated and killed, Marguerite killing herself, Constance and D'Artagnan happilly ever after, Milady leaving and Athos left alone, Aramis resigning the Musketeers and the Queen and King reunited. It had to be done, but I wish the writers would have been bolder and changed the approach on the King, after all it seems that we are back at the same routine again on that front. Plus the love between them does not convince me at all, maybe because of how they were in real life, so I am a bit disappointed with the happy royal family treme. I know it is the Queen's duty to be at the King's side but to be joyful about it after all he has done and behaved , cheating and humiliating her and trusting Rochefort above her and everybody else, meanwhile Aramis is all alone and gone ... granted he made some mistakes as well and is atoning for them but still in the end it was not fair and left a sour taste in my mouth. I hope that next season he finds happiness somewhere else and let the Queen deal with her delightful husband by herself! And on that note I moved to acceptance on the 5 Stages of Loss and Grief for Annamis! Peace out! ;)

  32. I was so happy to see that there were so many twists and turns I didn't see coming. I stumbled across the leaked photos while checking my tumblr feed a couple weeks ago. As I was looking through the feed, I thought 'these don't really seem like plot points that would be released." Then I checked Twitter and saw Sandi's warning tweet. Had I seen the warning first, I would have stayed away from those other sites because I didn't want the episode spoiled! I was afraid that the episode would be ruined for me because I saw some things I would rather have not seen. I am happy to say that this was not the case at all. I'm very upset that people shared those pictures, but extremely happy I was still able to enjoy the episode and be surprised about many plot twists along with all the other fans.

The writing through the whole episode was great, but I thought the last 15 minutes was especially brilliant. The conflicting emotions of highs and lows were fantastic. The high of the marriage and the low of Aramis resigning and Athos being conflicted about Milady was gut wrenching. I also really enjoyed the Muskeboy's reunion with Aramis. It was touching. :)

I think my favorite scene is the battle between Aramis and Rochefort that flows into the battle with d'Artagnan and Rochefort. The sword choreography was awesome! I bet the actors spent weeks practicing that and it paid off. Absolutely wonderful acting from Marc Warren as well. I'm glad Rochefort is gone, but will miss Marc Warren.

Overall, wonderful episode to a great season! It's going to be a loooooong wait to season 3.

  33. I have not seen the Finale Yet. Just wanted to let you know that I am going to miss this site and all of you guys. It has become a part of my daily routine =).

  34. The finale was absolutely BRILLIANT!.... what a setup for season 3! Can't wait!

  35. my only consolation for the end of the season is that the showreplacing the Musketeers on BBC America is a show from New Zealand called Tatau and one of my good kiwi friends-Michael Hurst will ne directing several episodes. I would love to be in England in April because Michael is going to be producing and directing and interactive play in London in an old department store. the play is entitled the generation of z: the apocalypse

    ReplyDelete
  36. Agreed. It seemed like Aramis' morality made her look at herself a bit more closely. It would be an interesting thing to explore -- how a man who gives himself to religion and a woman who murders without a care could coexist within the same group. I actually liked Milady in this ep and I'm not sure what to do about that. :) I don't WANT to like her. I want her to be a nemesis. But then she goes and does something helpful and noble and now I'm all confused. Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yeah, I thought eps 1-3 were a bit slow and I was starting to get nervous, but 4 and on were all fantastic and just got better and better. Turned out to be a phenomenal season that built on the foundation they laid in those first three. The serial aspect took a lot more time to get off the ground, but in the end it was well worth it. :)

  38. Just read some spoilers and I have to say, I'm glad everyone made it out alive except for Rocheshit and Marguerite. I do feel sorry for her tho. She did not deserve it! As for rocheshit, I really don't care tbh. He was a brilliant, sexy and creepy villain this season. He was pretty much the character I love to hate. I wonder if the King becomes more bad next season...I'd really like to see this happen. Anyways, I'm happy for Constagnan (tho I knew they were going to get married). I'm also excited to see where Milathos go next season. Hopefully we see her come back to him. Milady has become one of my favourites and I'm sure she was heartbroken when Athos didn't come to her. Her humor this season was amazing! Now onto Annamis... I've got to say I'm a bit disappointed.

I'm glad Anne was happy and was safe from danger in the end, however she deserves more. I was really expecting the King to die. It looked like the writers were heading towards that direction because of how strong and brave Anne got. I felt like they were getting us viewers prepared to see her as Regent. Unfortunately, it is not this season. When she does tho, I'm sure she will kick Ass. Having said that, I honestly do not know where the writers are taking Anne and Aramis. It looks like they are endgame but I feel like they aren't tho. At this point, Aramis is still the Dauphin's father and nothing can change that fact. I'm sure there will always be that connection between these two no matter the circumstances. Also the fanbase is growing. I'm wondering how many viewers who ship this couple will stick around for next season. Personally, the writers did not even had to go down this direction where they had their secret exposed.

At the start of the season, both Anne and Aramis new their consequences if they were to be caught, that is why they stopped they didn't continue anything. Nothing even happened between these two expect the stares they shared and that one kiss (which was far away from the palace). However the only thing that did happen this season is how their love grew stronger for one another. I feel like the writers will repeat the same thing with these two in the next season. Lot's of 'eyesex' I'm sure of that! To add on to this, the writers have the complete power here. They pretty much ruined it at this point and this is why I'm disappointed with how these two ended. They did not even have their final goodbye. Maybe this is an indication that they are still not over yet. Who knows really...

I mean Game of Thrones had incest on their show where two twins (bro and sis) had children together. It is almost similar with Anne and Aramis situation, except that they are not brother and sister. With this in mind, I really do not see how Annamis is seen as the ship that will never sail while Cersai and Jamie are still doing stuff to each other and in very gross locations as well (next to their dead son)! For now this is all I have to say. Once I do see the episode, I shall continue discussing more.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Let's hope not. I don't think this would work without Aramis. He seems to be the one the others rally around. Maybe that's just because he's a bit more reckless but they need him for balance. As long as Santi's contracted for season 3, I'm happy to be along for the ride. :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree I really liked their scene together as well in fact it was one of my favorites. Aramis "the Queen" Milady "alive no thanks to you." Loved it!

I found it interesting that when he says all of Rocheforts allegations will be disproved she says even the ones that are true? She knows the truth about Aramis and the Queen and I just wonder if that will come back to haunt them at some point.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm wondering if she was faking it after all she nearly died and her secret was revealed she probably feels that she has to be more careful than ever and this includes putting on sweet smiles then so be it! Agree though I'm feeling sad about Annamis.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ok, just 3 obversations:
    1. Holy sh**, they had me worried there a moment about Aramis actually leaving. I think I kept saying "What? WHAT? No! They can't. They won't. Not really." for about 5 minutes (which reminds me - need to rewatch, missed the next 5 minutes after his departure).
    2. Ok, unpopular opinion possibly, but why was d'Artagnan the one to kill Rochefort? Yeah, he wanted to kill Constance, bla bla, but I still didn't really get why d'Art was so self-righteous about himself being the one to kill Rochefort. Possibly biased opinion, but I think Aramis had a waaaay better motive to be the one to get the final blow in. I was cheering when he stuck his sword in and was actually quite disappointed when it ended up being d'Art who ended up finishing him off (sorry, d'Art fans, nothing personal ;)).
    3. They sunk my ship. :( Even though I fully expected them to do it and of course it makes total sense plotwise, I still hate them a little bit for it. Who needs plot? I want my ship back. :(

    ReplyDelete
  43. LOL about Aramis leaving I had the same reaction! And for me it really doesn't mske sense to me plotwise. I mean yes we all need to keep our heads and do our duty to King and country, protect our child yes I get that. But to build something up over two seasons/series then just drop it that I don't get. And they have been working towards this whole Annamis thing since early season one.

Also, I have a problem with the whole instant happy family/marriage thing. Again I get the Queen needs to do her duty, save herself, Aramis and her child. And the King is a fickle man child. One minute he is being told the Queen has committed adultery and the dauphin isn't his and the next all is forgiven, happy marriage and the Queen is a loyal and loving wife. Seriously?!?!

What really makes the whole thing laughable is the King albeit indirectly by his comments to the Cardinal set the assassination attempt in motion which put the Queen alone (well sort of) at the convent of conception where they consummated whatever they had prior to that!!!!

I'm really having a hard time with that scene after all that has happened not just this season but last and how Louis has treated Anne and considering what just occurred really we are going to play it like this?!?! Like nothing had happened, the royal marriage is stronger then ever and everything is fine really?!?! Makes me want to yell at the writers "hey I'm not a total idiot!"

I get that the Queen is happy she is alive and not in prison, her child is safe, Aramis didn't end up on the wheel and Rochefort is gone and can't hurt them. I love the Queen she is my favorite character but seriously?!?! After all of this she is a happy wife? Maybe it's a case if playing the game. Doing what you have to do. I don't know but I have real issues with that scene.

Hey all! Hope you all enjoyed the finale!! Shame I couldn't watch it due to being in the UK :(

I am refusing to read any comments here but I will check all replies etc on Disqus.

I have question, and it is directed to fellow Annamis shippers:
Did this episode make you happy or sad? It reference to Annamis, obviously :)

Please don't give any spoilers, or at least not major spoilers away.

If something happend, just say that something happened, not what actually happened. If you catch my drift. And if not, then say that nothing happend.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I was satisfied. That's all I will say!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think the King changed a lot over this season and I don't think he
just forgot about the whole accusations towards Aramis and Anne. The way
he called to Anne was obvious to me that, yes, he was ready to accept
that Rochefort had lied, but that he would keep the queen close and not
alone in the company of musketeers. Anne on the other hand is, as she
has said, born to a life of duty as most royals were. She just does what
her role dictates she should. I love the way she has been portrayed ...
upset one moment and then breath in and up comes the "dutiful queen"
role she has been bred to have.

When Aramis was making that vow I was shouting NO!! But then, I knew it

would come up at some point, his going to a monastery .

At first I thought the ending was going to be so
wrong but that soon turned around when the three Musketeers turned
around to face Treville about getting Aramis back.

I also loved the fact that Constance was saved early on in the episode and I loved her
phrase "perhaps I brought men to fight MY battle" (or something of the
    sort.

Milady - ok I have grown to like her a lot, but when she told
Athos to go with her I thought "no way!" but am sure she will be back.

Rochefort- yes!! he's dead! I was glad that all of them took a swipe at him.
Glad Aramis inflicted the first serious wound. I did think that Aramis
had much more reason to hate Rochefort than D'Artagnan did though.

Treville - yay!! Finally! At least the King has a decent person next to him now.
Porthos and Treville - glad that their relationship was tied off nicely. It had
been going all season and this sealed Treville's reasons for having him
    as a Musketeer.\

Annamis - now I am a huge shipper, but I liked
the way things went. Last week Aramis at the convent did not go one
step out of what was appropriate. He was realizing that nothing good
could come out of their story. Sometimes letting go is the only option
in order to keep a person you love safe.

Now how will I survive without my Musketeers? :(

    ReplyDelete
  47. I guess the lesson they were supposed to learn from what happened is that now they REALLY have to stay away from each other, because after being accused of treason once and nearly dying they can't risk the same thing happening again. Or something. And with season 3 probably mostly being about the war with Spain, I assume there will be a lot less court-based plot, so it would probably be a bit harder to fit in their romance into the storyline. But yeah, that scene didn't work for me either. If they're going to sink them so firmly, I would have liked at least a better goodbye for them. :(

    ReplyDelete
  48. I took the lack of a goodbye to mean all is not over between them. Once Aramis returns to Paris there's sure to be old feelings stirred up and with the worry of war Anne may turn to him again. The king will become evidently distracted by war and may even die. There are endless possibilities

    ReplyDelete
  49. Maybe you are right and she was acting the part as she does so well, we will have to wait and see. The thing about Annamis also is that not only it is over for now but Aramis will be a forever changed man, he will never again be the carefree, fun, live life to the fullest guy that we love so we actually lost 2 ships!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I was right everything workout for the king. Aramis without his son , anne with the king playing happy family and gonna live lying her son who his real father are . Athos without milady. Sometimes love is not important. The king raise aramis son. everybody happy. I just wanted say goodbye, because I given up this show. I have nice time.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Love your optimism! You might have to talk me off a ledge a few times during hiatus! LOL ;)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Agreed, exactly my thoughts the happy royal family routine did not please me at all, we are going in circles with the King, no development there, and to have everything back to usual what a waste of momentum that was. But to Aramis... Everything is lost. Tonight we actually lost 2 ships Annamis is over, for now always the hopeful, understandably so for all the reasons we know, but Aramis will be a forever changed man, no longer the carefree, fun, live life to the fullest kind of guy. He has this huge burden to carry around. They could at least give our old Aramis back like they did with the others. I am not happy!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Great analysis about Milady and Aramis! I have to say, although she is a psychokiller, I love Milady now! She takes charge for better of worse, she is not a victim! I was sad she left, again, and alone. I have no idea how she will return, but she must!

    ReplyDelete
  54. And also with the war we will have less Queen, King and Constance ... They will have to find a balance or as someone said before it will be a sausage fest!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Lol I just think there would have been a goodbye scene if it really was the end for them, to give them and fans closure after the big build up we've had. We know he'll be back next series and those sort of feelings don't just go away. Plus he will always want to keep his son safe during the threat of war. The only change may be him as a person, he's been through hell this series and so to have time away and come more level headed is probably what he needed. Can you tell I love Aramis a little? Lol

    ReplyDelete
  56. You should always write under influence! Lol, :) Just know you are not alone on your ramblings, I am right there with you all the way! Where is the crucifix? That is an excelent question!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Im hoping the changed Aramis might just be him having a short time away from all the drama so that he can return to some form of his old self (minus the womanizing) . I cant see them giving us a depressed Aramis for another series. Plus with the threat of war he will be keen to join his brothers in protecting his country. Giving him time away from the palace and drama, allows for him to return to himself. without it he would have continued to skulk around the castle and be miserable with no room for change.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Was he not wearing it when he told the boys he was resigning?

    ReplyDelete
  59. LOL! Same here. The episode was over and I went "Damn, they went and made me like her!" I'm even rooting for Milathos a little bit now. That wasn't supposed to happen!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I don't think that the King has gone back to where he was at the start of the season though. He was insecure when Anne wasn't at his side when he left with Treville, enough so that he called for her to join him, which shows that he isn't over it overnight, so to speak.

I think Anne is happy to be putting the past six months or so behind her, she knows that the best thing she can do is help to fill the void that Rochefort has made with herself and people like Treville, who will steer the king on the right path. She's also completely with Louis on the matter of Spain, and her brother's, betrayal. That has to hurt a great deal, her birth family have forsaken her, she needs to draw her other family closer imo before she embarks on anything that could bring her down!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I hope you are right, I want to see him happy and guilt free next season too! Enough with the drama! I've always expected he would leave, as you said if he stayed it would have been torture and the same old angst. I just do not want him to become a complete different person, a religious fanatic living up to his vow. Hopefully he'll come to terms on that matter as well. It's a healing and growing process.

    ReplyDelete
  62. That's what I am hoping to see too. It would tie in with the books nicely and help sort out his head space somewhat after the hell he has just been through in the finale. He faced death and torture, lied under oath to save the woman he loves and his son. I think he needs to work through that as a character, but I don't necessarily need to see it all on screen as we have a lot of angst with him already this year. Becoming a monk for a while could be a good compromise for him, before he comes back and joins the rest of the team,

  63. ITA about #2

  64. We do love him! I wonder how Wilton be when they mete again on S3! I am not asking for romance but some actual conversativos would be nice, I hope the writers will indulge us this time.

    ReplyDelete
  65. To tell you the truth I really do not want to see any of them depressed next season. Hopefully they will be to busy with the war to have time to be to depressed.

  66. I missed that. I was distracted with all the feels! ;)

  67. Hello! This is my first post about the The Musketeers and it has been prompted by one of the most exciting, dramatic and heartrending season finales I have ever seen! I couldn't stop my tears during the last half of the show. It was totally satisfying, and even that is an understatement!

I watched it on BBC America last night (Saturday) and although I see a lot of the posts talk specifically about the episode I'm not sure whether you folks across the Pond have seen it yet, so I'll just offer some observations.

I am so impressed with the way each of the characters are drawn (kudos to the writers) and portrayed (kudos to the actors). I love period dramas and this one is superb in the way only the Brits can do them. I especially appreciate that none of the characters, especially the Musketeers themselves, are all black or all white but are wonderfully nuanced. Each has admirable qualities and some not so admirable ones, so they are beautifully human. But overall each Musketeer is, well...admirable, not to mention sexy.

I see that many have commented about the relationship between Louis and Anne and whether it can be seen as realistic going forward. Louis is a weak man and therefore a weak King. Heredity doesn't always favor those who are destined to rule by virtue of their birth; they often don't have the ability to be strong and wise rulers as history has shown over and over. Like a child, Louis wants things to be the way he wishes. So, his Queen may have committed adultery and his son is not his? Then he will hold on to the idea that Rochfort must have lied to him about EVERYTHING, therefore his Queen must be faithful and he is the father of the Dauphin. This rationalization may sow seeds which will come back to haunt his marriage, but for the immediate future he is satisfied by choosing to believe that which makes him happy.

As for Anne, I see her as true royalty. I expect that as a princess she was raised to understand that her birth destined her to make a political marriage and that the marriage would most likely not be a love match or turn into one after time. Royal and noble marriages were not about love but about political alliances, land and prestige. Even though in her indiscreet and brief liaison with Aramis she probably experienced true passion if not true love, she never showed anything but respect and support for the King in public. She knows her duty as Queen and she does it, no matter what her own wishes, feelings and desires may be. It's not easy being a Queen!

There were a few rough patches this past season but I am very much looking forward to Season 3. By the finale, just about everything and everyone has been realigned. I can hardly wait to see where the show will take the characters and us next!

  68. Hi there Diana,I'm just about to start work and have to leave but wanted to welcome to the Musketeers posts, always fab to greet a new face!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Thank you, I'm glad to have joined you!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Welcome, is amazing to see how many new fans have joined the group lately! It is a shame S2 is over and we have to wait months for S3! Sandi will have to keep us entertained somehow!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Agree, you could see the look the King gave her when he saw here talking to Aramis. He might say he didn't believe Rochefort but you could see the look of jealousy in his eyes. I was so happy for Treville, he might not be out there fighting but now at least he is in a position that he can like and he made the KIng happy.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I hope so too. I really didn't like the way Aramis was this season. I missed the smiling, witty Aramis of season 1. Hopefully he will be back to that in Season 3. Although in the face of war that might be hard to do.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Aramis will be back. In the books, he goes back and forth constantly between the church and the musketeers. And Aramis will outlive Louis...

    ReplyDelete
  74. The hugs... the one with Athos and Aramis was wonderful..

    ReplyDelete
  75. I agree, I felt 1-3 were a bit slow. But like last season, each episode just got better than the last. :)

    ReplyDelete
  76. I think if they turned the show into a war drama that would be boring. I'm sure they will balance between palace intrigue and war adventure in season 3 in the same way that they've always balanced the show between swashbuckling adventure and courtly intrigue.

Plus I'm really hoping for a musketeer picnic behind the lines scene like the one that Dumas wrote. That may be my favorite scene in all of fiction, and a war season will give the writers the opportunity.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I think Constance would make a great royal governess...

    ReplyDelete
  78. I wanted thank you for previews, before I leaving. anne is not happy, she just doing her duty to the king. Its not fair that in the end king get everything aramis lost everything. Anne should be with aramis and their son be with real father. But apparently king happiness are more important, than everything. Season 3 be how make king happy, Anne be miserable about. looking aramis and war , aramis missing anne and his son, athos missing milady. Just one question do you think king knows. Poor anne don't deserve happiness and love just because she the queen.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Am I right in thinking he wont he there for long. They left to get him pretty swiftly

    ReplyDelete
  80. Haha, that will be great! And they will bring some spanish folks to join the fun, I miss Perales, and probably english folks too since Milady is there now. Can we have Banderas or Barden in the show? Maybe is too much to ask, but that would be awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Loved your thought of Queen Anne, it is much the way I see her. She is a Princess born and her entire life she has known what her duty will be. Ali has done a brilliant job portraying her.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I am heading to the tumblrs to lick my wounds! I am on board with bring my ship back! :(

    ReplyDelete
  83. If next season is to be the last, he might go back for the war and then maybe, as in the book, they will all go their separate ways, well except D'Art.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I do not want to think about it! I want the show to go on forever... But alas if it is the last season I hope the writers will risk it all and not hold back!

    ReplyDelete
  85. I think the scene where they talked in the convent was sort of their goodbye IMO. In a way we did get a bit of closure between the two. We see that Anne doesn't regret what happened between them and that she'll never forget about him. All I want is for the writers to confirm that they are not endgame because I'd hate to assume that they are. The only reason why I will continue watching the show is because I have grown to like all of the characters. I'll maybe stop if I know for sure that Annamis won't happen.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I doubt they will ever give a straight answer on that matter, they will always leave the door open for more and keep us guessing, just because they can and in the end this is good drama. Just look all the comments threads on Annamis. Nonetheless there is a limit to it, they can not keep on dragging us with uncertainties for too long, if they want to keep part of the audience interested they will have to give something in return otherwise we will be fed up and give up the show entirely, because this is worse than knowing upfront that it will not happen, and that is not a smart move imo. But for now it is pretty much over! We will have to wait and see what S3 brings. :(

    ReplyDelete
  87. I was satisfied too. It wasn't as bad as I thought. As an Annimis shipper I still have hope for s3.I think many good things can happen for Annamis if the writers are willing to go there. I hope so.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I wanted Aramis to be the one to kill him too.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I think you are underestimating how much the outcome will affect everyone. They very idea that everyone is happy

    ReplyDelete
  90. I wonder what "good things" the writers will come up with them next season. I was thinking maybe Aramis will find someone new and we might see Anne getting jealous. Or maybe the other way around. If Duke Buckingham is going to be a new character next season we might see Aramis jealous of him. Aside from this I really do not know what other things the writers will come up with.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm pretty sure Aramis was wearing the crucifix at the end.

I always enjoy reading your thoughts!

    ReplyDelete
  92. I'm pretty sure he was.

We need a screen shot of it LOL

    ReplyDelete
  93. I'm hoping the king will die or become very ill and give Anne all his powers.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I agree with you, I think the writers will see give us something more with these two. I mean, it is impossibe for these two to ignore their feelings. Like Angela said in her comment, after what happened between the two really scared them and right now they will probably be more focused on their duty and to keep their son away from danger again. The looks and glances will be there for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  95. They will probably head toward that direction near the end of next season most likely. I would like to see this happen tho. Was kind of hoping it would happen at the end of episode. In a way Anne and the King are cute together, tho I personally prefer her and Aramis.

    ReplyDelete
  96. You are spot on in your comments...I just want to add on rematch (for the third time since last night)...look closely at the scene where Aramis returns to his brothers and Athos greets him at the door. Looks like Athos plants a kiss on Aramis. I love the bromance!!!

    ReplyDelete
  97. I agree, there was no hint that this was the end for Aramis and Anne or Athos and Milday. There wasnt time to fully explore the relationships in the finale, I feel the writers are saving more for series 3. Id be more worried for anne and aramis if they ended this series happy together, at least this way theres hope for series 3. Plus the writers are aware of how much love there is for this particular ship to finish it already (before it's really had a chance to begin).

    ReplyDelete
  98. I agree the best thing Anne can do for herself, her child and France is not let another Rochefort situation happen. And to try to not let anyone have as much control over the King as the cardinal did. I mean the Cardinal was able to reach out from the grave and somewhat sway Louis in this ep. Her smartest move is to make sure she and the King are surrounded by good people she can trust like Treville. I'm very glad he took the position!

One thing I wasn't clear on was the spying thing. Vargas said that Rochefort was never told to harm the Queen yet obviously he was unaware of how off the rails Rochefort had gotten and was surprised how high he had climbed. Was Rochefort chosen because of his old friendship with the Queen because they knew she would trust him? What exactly does the King of Spain know of all of this and what exactly did he order?

I guess it doesn't matter sending a spy was a betrayal (although as we know it happens all the time look at the Kings sister) and even if the spy wasn't meant to harm the Queen it still put her in a bad position and in danger. I just think it would be interesting to learn more about the Spanish King and his intentions and relationship with his sister.

One of the things I love about the show Reign is they explore the relationship of Mary Queen of Scots with birth family and her relationship with Queen Elizabeth you even get to meet some of them which I find intriguing. Of course this is a show about the Musketeers not the Queen lol.

I feel for the Queen when Rochefort told her last ep that Rochefort was a Soanish spy the look of dismay on her face that her brother couldn't, wouldn't forsake her. I hope with war coming we get a little more background there. I'd also like to see Vargas again.

As far as the King there were a few little things there that made you wonder if there was some niggling doubt. But as Athos told Milady I've seen all of your repertoire. Your right Annes smartest move is to mend things with the King, make sure they are surrounded by people she trusts and once again be in a position the King trusts and leans on her/goes to her for advice. But I personally can't go through another season of a King who other then a few brief moments and some subtle nuances really hasn't changed.

There needs to be an extreme change and I'm okay with discord between the King and Queen and a suspicious, angry, not so nice Louis. It will allow the Queen to grow even stronger and shine and allow Ryan Gage to go many place he hasn't been able to go thus far. It will shake things up and make them interesting. There are a lot of different ways they can go with that. And it would somewhat follow the history of Anne and Louis.

As far as Annamis there was really no other way they could go at this moment other then to protect themselves, their son and even King and country. Do their duty and both try to heal from the events of the last few episodes. I loved that the writers gave us moments that showed their love for each other. Anne when Rochefort is talking about putting Aramis on the wheel tells him he knows nothing of love.. Aramis when he begs God to spare her and even during his trial, when he goes into save her and even at the end when he says your safe, you both are. There is so much healing these two need to do!

I still don't feel these two are completely done yet their feelings wont be lost or forgotten with duty in fact they may grow stronger with time, distance, healing and all that has and will occur. There is still more story to tell. How and when remains to be seen. Or I could be as delusional as Mr sexy chest crazy pants and this could be their version of properly ending the two and just drop it like it never happened and break my heart. That too remains to be seen. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  99. Me too! I like the idea of her have a position of importance close to the Queen.

  100. Just watched

Possibly the most captivating 59mins of TV I've ever watch...seriously. I'm still racing....

    It's
was a non-stop roller coaster of emotions.... on the edge of my seat
with anxiety....pulse racing with fear for my favorites... jumping up
and yelling YES when the story fulfilled one of my wishes.... crying
with happiness... and grinning from ear to ear when the boys pulled
    together and kicked butt....

Thank you Musketeer crew for giving
me the most satisfying Finale I've watched. Right now i have to watch
it again. lol I think my heart has slowed down enough.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Welcome DianaPauline loved what you said about Anne, Louis and their marriage. You said it perfectly and I agree that although all may seem well now more then a few things may come back to haunt them later.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I agree with you about Aramis when he was making that vow I was screaming NO too! My Annamis shipper heart loved that he was willing to promise or give anything if she would be spared but still NO! Lol

    ReplyDelete
  103. Don't leave xxxx! I was as frustrated as anyone by some of those final scenes but I do feel they are setting things up for next season and there is as I said more story to tell. Now if this was the last episode ever if the series I would be screaming WTH! But Aramis and Anne will meet again. Milady will be back. She was right when she told Athos they are not free. Right now they are all just doing what needs to be done...their duty to King and country, trying to survive and trying to heal.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Ok I was against the whole monk thing but after reading your post I'm seeing it a bit differently now. God knows there needs to be a lot of healing for all if these characters so maybe this is Aramis' path to that.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Love the way you think Steph!!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Yep it was a kiss!!! So unlike Athos loved it!

    ReplyDelete
  107. I keep looking at that last scene Lucy and I think you might be right. It does look like he might be wearing it. And thank you I just wish the season wasn't over! :-(

    ReplyDelete
  108. I guess I am the only one who saw a sense of closure in the whole storyline. I probably read expressions too much. For me, body language was clear. Aramis and Anne had their story...she said she would never regret what happened. They both went to hell and back and know that duty comes first now. When such a traumatic experience is gone through and you come out alive, you are numb at first but you see things more clearly too. I love Aramis and Anne and have loved their story ever since he first shielded her from the skirmish in season 1. But this was too traumatic for both.

    ReplyDelete
  109. So does it look like we are safe with Santi? He will be back for sure? I was a Merlin fan too ugh!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Lol thankyou! I just dont think the timing was right for them to live happily ever after this series, (but at least now we know they love eachother). Hopefully the king and queens marriage will take a turn for the worst as many are predicting and good things will happen next series.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Thanks so much for everything Sandi, I've been following for a while but today is the first time i've left comments. Love the chats on here

    ReplyDelete
  112. Now don't go and be reasonable about this when my shipper heart is bleeding! lol ;) (Of course you're right, but I still wanna sulk about that headlong iceberg collision...)

    ReplyDelete
  113. Well, looks like Aramis gets about 5 minutes of peace and reflection before the other get him back... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  114. Oh you are right :)!! Now what i am actually worried about is how I will be surviving for the rest of the year without my weekly musketeer dose...and also this page. Sandi's hangman and teasers were what got me through the work day!

    ReplyDelete
  115. I haven't watched the episode yet but read the spoilers gonna watch it on Friday but reading your comments made me excited for it
as far as annamis go am not giving up I think aramis did the right thing for now to stay away from the queen and the baby the king Will be watching every move she does now it not safe
but for me their love has grown stronger and that kind of love just doesn't disappear especially if they share a baby
athos and milady this season for them was about forgiveness and trusting each other and having to let go of their awful past
And am so happy for constagnan they deserve their happy ending

    ReplyDelete
  116. You're welcome stephala, I love meeting and chatting to fans of the show. You're the guys that make this site what it is, a friendly place for all fans to share their theories/opinions and speculate about our favourite show :)

    ReplyDelete
  117. After The Accused I didn't think it was possible to make an episode any more thrilling or emotional, but yeah, they managed that with this one, lol. Enjoy your rewatch!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Yes, I'm hoping that she gets the job too.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I'll get the next Filming Watch post up once bootcamp starts and we'll get on with the speculating! We have also discussed a rewatch during the hiatus on the G+ forum during last week. Once I get some time I will sort a proper chatroom out and a schedule, then we'll perhaps do an episode a week or something.

We will also have the UK lot back next weekend once they have watched the finale, their reaction will be fun to share.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I have been playing with some scenarios in my head on how they will meet again, but probably the first time it happens they will still avoid each other and if they do talk will be formal so something will need to happen for them to confront their feellings, as someone said in here they may bring the Duke of Buckingham after all and maybe there will be some gossip about him and the Queen having an affair, as it did in real life. Maybe the Duke will seek an alliance with France against Spain and Milady will be somehow involved in this plot, which will tie with the book. And I wonder if Aramis Jr. will look more like his father when he gets older therefore raise the King's suspicions on his parentage once again. Probably is just too soon for especulation ...

    ReplyDelete
  121. LOL I have just answered your comment on another topic and I said the exact same thing about Aramis being jealous! See great minds think alike, haha :)

    ReplyDelete
  122. I really hope that we get to see Vargas again, it felt like some ground work was being laid during his time in France - his observations and sarcastic comments. Whether they were directly for his return, or just for the future Spanish war to get his countries sentiments across I don't know. I did love Pete Sullivan though, especially when he did an Athos-style lean against the wall during the storming of the Palace and watched the Musketeers & Red Guards fight, lol.

I also hope that entering the Thirty Year War will bring about more of the historic discord between Louis and Anne that we know existed. I don't want a repeat of any treason storyline, but there other avenues that can be explored that can drive them apart, emotionally and physically.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Now that is a very good question. How is it hiatus already again?!?

    ReplyDelete
  124. I know I sound like a broken record but the King needs to change! If they insist in making him the same as always it will be tedious. The best thing is to have a feud between Queen/King imo. S3 can not come soon enough!

    ReplyDelete
  125. You're welcome.

The king doesn't gain everything, he is bringing up another man's child and is being lied to by the woman he loves and all the people around him that he trusts to serve him truthfully and with honour. He also isn't happy if you watch that last scene with him in. He is insecure, rather angry and frustrated by the events of the last six months.

It's absolutely impossible for Anne to be with Aramis and their child while Louis is still alive, I don't see how anyone realistically could think otherwise. Anne doesn't appear to be unhappy about the war, she wants Treville to be the new Minister of War by Louis side for example. Her brother has betrayed her quite badly after all.

"It wasn't as bad as I thought."
The word I don't like is bad but if you feel satisfied then I guess it's alright ;)

    ReplyDelete
  127. Ah yes the lean. I didn't catch it until my second rewatched and a friend pointed it out. It was perfect. I think Vargas would make an interesting character to explore and a great foe for the Musketeers. His comments regarding Rochefort were disturbing. Definitely would like to see him next series.

I agree no more treason storylines. There are other ways the can play out that historic discord between the King and Queen.

    ReplyDelete
  128. It could go either way I think. Though to be fair, I really am not good at picking up the shipper side of things. If I'm honest I would prefer them to be over, I'd like more adventures and bromance/comradery with less specific romance in general :p

I love the strong female roles, don't get me wrong, I just prefer to have them not tied to a romance. I have found Milady and Anne far more interesting away from Athos & Aramis this season, for example.

    ReplyDelete
  129. ITA with it all! Yes spying was so common, tbh I wonder how much of the plot the Spanish King would have known about, he would know that was a spy but maybe to in a way protect her sister since they were not alowed to even talk to each other, but to actually have her destroyed, I would like to see some insight on that. The King must change is my motto I fear but needs to be said, Gage is such an amazing actor he deserved better plotlines and some growth, preferably going to darker places. And a feud between Queen/King as it was in real life it would be different and exciting to see. On Annamis, well there are still many possibilities if the writers want to, but it is really up to them, I hope they think of the fans sometimes and be kind!

    ReplyDelete
  130. I need to win the lottery so I can afford to go hang out in Prague and pick up a few teasers every now and then to turn into hangman games! lol

Thinking of it, Happy would mean I'd watch ep 10 without 'fear'. Sad would depress me this week :/

I am preparing for both happy and sad for them this episode.

*remember I am just guessing as I have not read any spoilers*

I am guessing that Aramis rescues the Queen so there'd be a happy scene there but she might not have forgiven him for his affair with Marguritte so there could be tension between them?? I have no idea :/ What were your opinions of it?

  132. OverlyObssesedBadger22 March 2015 at 19:21

    Thats a relief haha :)

  133. Well, I'll actually be set-touring again in May, so let's see if I'm lucky this time and will actually stumble upon them (considering I didn't the last two times, though, I won't hold my breath though...lol)

    ReplyDelete
  134. All of them have been through a bad six months or so (I think it's about that long, how old do you think the Dauphin is in the finale?), but especially these last two episodes. We've all felt emotionally drained just watching it, but they've seen friends beheaded, battled enemies, lied, lost their jobs, relationship traumas, etc. and now they are suddenly being sent off to war with Spain, within a day of all this ending :( I dunno how they cope, I think I'd be curled up in a ball in a corner somewhere, gentle sobbing, lol

    ReplyDelete
  135. I give ya a lot of cred..... You kept it close to the vest...If I'd known that was coming I would'a popped...... Two great eps to finish the season, I didn't think it was possible for me to like the show more..... I was wrong. hehe This show would be tearing it up if they only advertise a little.... What a solid performance by all the actors. All series Show Runners should set up and take notice how you deliver a finale....

    ReplyDelete
  136. I'm actually quite surprised everyone else seems satisfied with that part of the episode. Let's say I understand the choice the writers made as a normal fan, but I don't necessarily agree with them from a shipper point of view. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  137. Oh nice one, good luck hun. I've been invited to the Doctor Who set later this year, but I don't know what my chances are of being able to get invited to the Musketeers one is as it's not in the UK :( I would love to go though, have a wicked time!

    ReplyDelete
  138. Well, that's not too bad either! LOL ;) (And at least you get officially invited, we always have to pretend to be normal tourists and act totally surprised when they mention they've filmed the show somewhere. And we can never show our faces in Doksany again after last time...lol)

    ReplyDelete
  139. Now Prague is a good idea, not too far ... and direct flights from here too :)

    ReplyDelete
  140. What happened last time pray tell....or should I not ask :p lol

    ReplyDelete
  141. I love adventure and it was the camaraderie between the musketeers that first drew me to the show. And as long as there is lots of Aramis then I will be happy :) Actually, lots of smiling Aramis if possible.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I would say the dauphin is 6 to 8 months old. Of course by the time we see him next series he could be 3 or 4 depending on how much time lapses/where they choose to pick things up.

And seriously when is this child going to get a name?!? I guess they have all been too busy facing treason charges and Spanish spies to address that properly.

If I'd been through all that they have I would be sitting in the pub drinking myself into a stupor Athos style only to somewhat sleep it off, dunk my head in a pail of water and do it all again the next day lol. But that's just me 😁

    ReplyDelete
  143. Agreed, they will still need to balance the strategic side of things at court with the battles and the 'down time' that the characters will have too.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Let's just say we played the tourist act a little too convincingly and the priest there (who "caught" us loitering about the place) gave us a private tour because he thought we were interested in his church (the nuns were not amused that we were disrupting prayer) and even brought us back to our car afterwards. Both my friend and I are atheists so no, we weren't particularly interested in his church, but he was so sweet that we felt really, really bad for leading him on (just because we didn't wanna admit we were there for the sets). On the pro side: he showed us the crypt (the one with all the pillars they use a lot), which you usually can't get into. :)

    ReplyDelete
  145. and I am glad it won't be longer :)

    ReplyDelete
  146. Tbh I can not see this Love the King has for the Queen, I think he is pretty much in love with himself and needs her around to boast his ego as anyone else. Yes he may admire her loyalty and acknowledge he needs her by his side, and he may even care for her for all the years they spent together, but he betrayed her with Milady just after the birth of his so desired son and humiliated her parading his mistress around, completely oblivious to her feellings, he allowed a relatively new acquaintance to destroy her and sentenced her to death. And still in the end it is all forgiven and forgotten, it did not sit well with me.

    ReplyDelete
  147. "I especially loved the scene between he and Treville for me Porthos is the heart of the group."

So very much this (although I love the whole of your summing up!). This completed Porthos' arc for me. The search for his father figure ended up right where I wanted it to, with Treville. The man who has looked out for him for years and the Captain that Porthos couldn't forsake, or not defend in battle, even when he was upset with him throughout the whole season.

  148. Agree. And the only reason he didn't want to sign her death warrant was because he would be alone then...

    ReplyDelete
  149. I loved that moment too, so very French! :)

  150. There's so many ways this could all go now, can't wait to see what is next in store for them.

    ReplyDelete
  151. We'll still be here. There will be a Filming & Speculation post up once boot camp starts, and we are planning a rewatch of the whole series in a chatroom during the hiatus too :)

  152. The guys really do put their all into their stunts, and are deservedly proud of the end results, they look marvellous on the screen. The Queen's chamber's aren't exactly large rooms either, so I imagine that it wasn't easy to get it choreographed in there, let alone fit in the cameras and crew too.

Marc Warren was a superb villain, there's not many actors who could make you feel sorry for him in his dying moments. He was insane and barbaric, but was essentially made that way by Vargas with his torture in prison. There was no other option for him but to die, but I still felt for him as a character who had lost his way in life, at what he could have been with different choices.

  153. Sandi, how right you are! Season 3 will be anything but predictable... can't wait to see where they will take the story. Do you think the writers can stretch The Musketeers past 3 or 4 seasons?

    ReplyDelete
  154. That's a very good point actually. I sincerely hope not as I have loved her turn in character this season and would hate to see it all undone. But it is a massive possibility isn't it...

    ReplyDelete
  155. I don't think they would have passed up the chance for him to have a heroic death saving Anne and his son if he was leaving. The way it played out would be a damp squib if he wasn't coming back imo.

    ReplyDelete
  156. It is a closure indeed, and sometimes it is a final one. But as a hopeless romantic I can see possibilities for them in the future because the sentiment is still alive inside of them, as long they still love each other there is still hope, but maybe you are right this is all done and done, and we are only postponing our pain ... It is a shame though for both of them imo ...

    ReplyDelete
  157. Ahh yes, I've heard about this, it's by the people who made Being Human and is going to be on BBC Three over here this spring too. It looks like it's going to be very good from what I've heard about it.

    ReplyDelete
  158. You did not! That was fun time! :)

    ReplyDelete
  159. I would love them to, there is a wealth of material they could go through. But I think it depends on what the actors and crew see themselves doing in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Oh wow, that was really nice of him, and great to see the crypt too.

  161. I just wish he would have shown us the sets instead of his church... ;)

That'll do me! Thanks Kynikey :)

I'll watch it with an open mind :P

  163. I think that the love he has for his wife has been shown a number of times,in Through a Glass Darkly for example he was distraught at the thought of losing her. I fully acknowledge that it's not a romantic love, but it is love, and Anne has said that she feels the same way towards him too.

    ReplyDelete
  164. It can be tempting to say things at times, but knowing that it really is better seen unspoilt is a good motivating factor. I try hard to tease rather than spoil, creating talking points and excitement without going too far. it's a balancing act, lol.

Yep, it really does deserves a hellva lot more promotion that it's getting!

    ReplyDelete
  165. Lol true Kynikey!

    ReplyDelete
  166. I agree with you annamisxx about all the ships! It was a great episode you will enjoy it!!!

    ReplyDelete
  167. Sandi it's probably too soon to know since they haven't even started filming yet lol but is their an estimated air date for series 3?

    ReplyDelete
  168. yes, he has showed concern towards her a number of time, true, but also I think it reflects also how dependent of her he is, the same way he was with the Cardinal. He needs her as a support, a lifeline. To me Love any kind of love is about selflessness above all, and he is the opposite of that he is selfish. He is not devoided of feelings towards her, affection, admiration, friendship. But I can not see him sacrificing himself on any matter to ensure her happiness as she did, granted she would be killed otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I noticed that she and d'Artagnan kept sharing glances during the entire time she held the Dauphin. Maybe we'll get a Constagnan baby in the future. :p

    ReplyDelete
  170. so i have this theory, i don't know if the writers will go with it but one can only hopes. Many historians speculate that Queen Anne and cardinal Mazarin were lovers and some even believe he was her husband. In the movie The Man In The Iron Mask, D'artagnan was the Queen's lover and the father of her children and who stayed by her side until his death. So do you think after the king's death, Aramis will secretly marry the queen or at least he will be at her side and help her raise Louis?
i really hope this will happen, i'm a huge fan of this ship and i wan them to have a happy ending.

    ReplyDelete
  171. That is yours and the rest of the shippers deepest desire! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  172. Unfortunately, I don't think there will be enough seasons for that to actually happen... :(

    ReplyDelete
  173. I know, it would be great to watch it, but as it is now just a kickoff on that direction would make my day (God, I am too old ...)

    ReplyDelete
  174. I look at Louis' feelings for the Queen as this...he is a weak, selfish, childish, fickle man and he loves the only way he knows how (much like many of the men I have dated) it is a selfish kind of love more about his wants and needs then hers and its definitely not romantic.

Its there when he defends her in ep 9 and when he can't sign her death warrant in ep 10. But it is a selfish kind of love and that was evident when tells Rochefort if he signs her death warrant he will be all alone in the world. He needs her, relies on her and cares for her but its all about him. It's not selfless.

However I'm not sure the King knows any other way to love. I'm not sure he is capable of loving any other way. He is a product of his environment...father assassinated, he became married and a King at a young age, mother attempted to overthrow him not once but twice. He and Anne grew up together and I think she understands and accepts this.

She understands Louis even if he doesn't understand or try to understand her. He is not capable of it. It makes for an dysfunctional and at times unhappy marriage. It leaves the Queen to always be the one trying to maintain balance and keep things going...she must do all of the work in the relationship and make all of the sacrifices.

It leaves her in a sometimes stressful and unhappy marriage, definitely a loveless, passionless one. On a good day they are friends who have affection and a love for one another and she is his support and on a bad day well she is being accused of treason. She must always walk that line. Which makes me admire Anne all the more.

Having said all that I want to see a shake up in the royal marriage next series. I think it is needed. The Queen has grown too strong and too much of a force to be reckoned with and Ryan Gage is just too brilliant to not let him spread his wings a bit and take the King to new places.

  175. Headlong iceberg collision lol! We were on the Titanic and now we are just out there floating on a piece of debris trying not to freeze to death!

  176. I know this show is not historically accurate but doesn't the Duke of Buckingham die in 1628. We are in 1631. I know , do not think to much.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Yeiiiii, thanks Sandi. And thanks a lot for your dedication !!!! Being a series fan This is the first series I am so involved with (Blame it on Santiago Cabrera). I´ll make sure to stay connected. It has been quite a journey.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Thanks Sandi! Would be disappointed if my Santi wasn't around.

He really impressed me with his portrayal if a deeper, darker Aramis this episode. The jail cell scenes were great and the trial scene was brilliant!

All three guys were great...Ryan and Mark as well as Santi!

  179. Does anyone thing it's a possiblity that there could be a time jump between this season and the next?

    ReplyDelete
  180. As I am rewatching the Season Finale for the second time I can only say... Awesome. Way to close the season. I was experimenting all the emotions in the full, anxiety, goose bumps, loud (very loud) exclamations even my dog thought I was crazy.
I loved Ali´s interpretation, outstading performance. As everybody else. I wonder what the future will bring to her character. I am so sad to see Annamis gone (for the momment I hope). But maybe this is the way It should be in order to keep everybody alive.
About Aramis future, well, at least we see the boys are going to bring him back. I was really Glad to see Treville reivindicated as the Minister of War, what a comeback.
And the king, amazing perfomance by Ryan Gage. Also, I am starting to ship Milady and Athos.
Amazing season, amazing performances, let´s see what SE will bring us.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Yes I too have loved her turn but am a bit concerned about how completely opening herself to Athos and then him not showing up (or at least she doesn't know he did) will affect her.

She actually knows a lot of secrets and had a lot of ammunition on them all. I personally would like to see her continue on the path she has been on this season.

Someone mentioned the idea of having Milady, Constance and possibly the Queen work together/have some screen time judt the three of them and I love that idea! I love the characters and have such respect for the actresses.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Milady went to work for the Queen? Became her own personal spy of sorts especially with war going on Milady would be perfect for this.

I can just hear Constance..."so we are trusting and working with her now? Oh your majesty!" Lol probably won't happen but I can dream.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Yes Sandi!! I just wanted to jump through the TV and hug them both!

    ReplyDelete
  183. Did anybody else think the captain of the Red Guards was going to do the right thing? I really thought he could see what Rochefort was up to and would turn on him.

God... That was so amazing :O I am so sad that it's gone, but more reason to watch it everything again.
Everything about this episode was so great! The acting, music, landscape (I am proud of where I live!).
I absolutelly loved Marc, Ali and Santi! They were incredible. The trial was awesome! I loved Santi in that.. I also loved his jail cell scenes. Aramis maybe came to the monastery but I think that it's more than sure that he'll come back. And also I don't think that it's end with Annamis... Aramis is maybe afraid but he loves her and his son!
I am so happy for Constagnan. They finally got what they wanted. And their bed scene was so hot!
And Milady and Athos... That was so sad. I hoped he won't miss her... But I am glad that he stays.

I think... This season was fantastic... Maybe the beginning was a bit less awesome than the ending but who cares? I love it everything!
I hope Jessica is going to give us photos from shooting and maybe at least I'll be lucky to meet them here in Czech republic!

    ReplyDelete
  185. I hope you get to meet them Zuzana, that would be an amazing experience! You live in a beautiful country, I'm so very jealous :)

    ReplyDelete
  186. Hi there qwerty, welcome to the site! I think that a time jump would be a great kicking off point, it would allow the characters to have developed over the break somewhat and come back a new.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Not that I know of I'm afraid. I know that bootcamp starts next month, so I would guess they will be filming up until late autumn/early winter. We would definitely be looking at next year at the earliest.

    ReplyDelete
  188. Also - just to reply to myself because I don't know where else to put this random thought - did anyone notice that the door they went into was next to Bonacieux's front door? Was that a side entrance to her house? Were they in her house? I have to go back and look at the interiors again. I didn't think the room they were in was the main room from last season but the room Milathos were in might have been. I need to rewatch.

    ReplyDelete
  189. you bet, I like this a lot.... one of the best lines was Vargus and Constance..... V: You bring women to fight your battles.....C: perhaps I bring men to fight mine. lol That got a big "YES" from me. Constance and Anne both were unbelievably strong this episode. I've been saying all season Milady was on the path to redemption... and she saved Aramis' life.... I do want her and Athos together but next season is soon enough.... She can work at English court with Buckingham to help the French against Spain....

    ReplyDelete
  190. Great ep. I liked that a bunch of Musketeers where wearing a the blue scarf under their belts like Aramis. I kept noticing it on men walking around in the background. Definitely shows the degree of respect he has earned from the other members of the regiment over the years.

    ReplyDelete
  191. Just watched the finale and I got to say I absolutely loved it! It felt a little too rushed imo but thats ok. I'm not going to get into too much detail because you guys have already done that. What I really liked about this episode was the ending. Tbh I was kind of bummed out last night when I read the spoilers of what happened but now that I've read all of ur opinions and have seen the episode I am a bit hopeful and am glad the writers decided to end it like this. It gives them a lot of room to write new and exciting stories. Looking forward to how the war will impact all of them in season 3.

First and foremost Im glad all of our ships managed to stay alive! I loved the Costagnan wedding! I'm happy they ended off on a good note however I am more scared now for them. I hope only the best for these two. As for Constance I would realllyy love for her to be the Royal governess for the Dauphin next season. I am utterly obsessed with Anne's and Constance's friendship and am looking forward to more.

Now let's talk about Milathos. Ugh these two kill me! As I said before Milady, aside from what she has done in the past, deserves a bit of happiness in her life. I'm wondering whether she will become even more ruthless especially since Athos did not go to her or whether she will actually fully redeem herself and become the person she wants to be. I hope there is an interview with the writers where they discuss each of the characters and how their future will look like in season 3.

As for Anne and Aramis, I do not think they're finished yet. However I did notice a bit of symbolism in this episode. If you guys remember, the dress Anne had in this episode was the same one she had when she first talked to Aramis (when she gave Aramis the crucifix for saving her life). The dress could either symbolize a) the first and last time they'll ever talk to one another or b) aramis saving her life. One theory I have for these two next season would be that they will prob get closer if the relationship between Louis and Anne becomes discord and if Aramis comes back as a musketeer. And maybe, by the end of the next season Louis will die and they'll be able to be together (This should happen, 100% sure of this). I'd be even more happy if he dies half way thru the season, but one can only hope.

One last thing and this will prob be a unpopular opinion but I just can't stop liking Louis' wittiness. He is soooo funny. Although I wanna see him die (for the sake of Anne and Aramis) I also don't. His humour is just too damn good (I've been re-watching season 1, maybe that is why). OH and one more thing, I am going to hope that next season the ratings do go up. This season has been amazing and I've loved watching every single episode. BBC America has definitely done a lot for this show and I'm sure that if more Americans start to watch this show, it could save the show and possibly give us another season if the ratings in the UK are not good. With that being said, this scheduling shit better not happen again !

  192. Man that green corset was tight when she was talking to Athos..... I kept waiting for the ...pop..pop... I'm a Milady fan, she it the ultimate survivor of the women...:))

    ReplyDelete
  193. I had that thought Bunnery when they showed the look on his face after Rochefort discovered Marguerites body.

    ReplyDelete
  194. Ill have to rewatch too I didn't notice that!

    ReplyDelete
  195. Thank you! These characters are so fascinating, it's easy to talk about them!

    ReplyDelete
  196. Thank you! Anne is a favorite of mine and as a woman myself I empathize with her position. I agree, great actress; her facial expressions alone are wonderful acting.

    ReplyDelete
  197. I went back and checked. I'm almost certain they were in Bonacieux' house, although it looked like it had been cleared out. I wonder if d'art and Constance will set up house there.

    ReplyDelete
  198. Thank you for the welcome. I'll be back!

    ReplyDelete
  199. I was wondering the same thing myself. I would actually like for there to be a time jump just not to much of one ( like years)......although I could see up to a year.

    ReplyDelete
  200. It is so funny , I did not even notice ( I guess being Greek it is normal in real life and TV) until I saw everybody going crazy on tumblr and then on rewatch I caught it.
