The Mentalist - Green Light - Review

9 Jan 2015

In its sixth episode, The Mentalist Patrick Jane celebrates his birthday in a very special way in Green Light. In this intense episode - but not dark as last week's - we get to know a little more about Dennis Abbott's past, and I couldn't be more happier. The FBI is brought in to consult on a botched DEA raid, but when Abbott’s former boss tries to blackmail Abbott into keeping the agency’s missteps quiet, he is forced to choose between his career and morals.

Dennis Abbott and Patrick Jane's past can be easily compared. Both men discover they have something in common at least and even the FBI boss has\had his own demon\Red John: a name named Peterson. During the last year they've been working together, Jane and Abbott have developped a strong bond made of trust and sincerity. Jane knows there's something wrong with Abbott after their meeting with Peterson. Dennis makes a huge step and decides to open with Patrick about his terrible secret that's been hunting him for over a decade (also Jane killed Red John after 10 years of hunting). Regardless of Abbott, Jane decided to end a life because McAllister killed his family. In this case, it's different. Abbott killed the Zeta cartel commander to save a life. Different cases, but still united with the same moral: killing someone in order to protect people. Abbott may have risked his career, but he did the right choice.

Wylie & Vega. It seems the authors are going to put give Jason Wylie some romance with Michelle Vega. Too bad, she states she doesn't feel like dating right now because she wants to focus on her career. Wylie looked so disappointed at the end.

Jane and Vega. Another relationship take a step forward. Jane and Vega look like father and daugher to me. He knew she would have never accepted his plan against Peterson, because he's part of the law and a militar one, like her father was, but Jane let Vega speak with her mind and she chooses to acquiesce his plan.

Jane and Lisbon. She once said "One day I might surprise you." And she did. Patrick Jane had to admit for the first time in his life that he had no idea about Lisbon's gift for him. When he sees the old tea cup from the CBI like a new one, he just couldn't believe it. Lisbon put together all the pieces, but she also put together Jane's person. She has been working for over a decade to understand him, piece by piece, try to recreate his heart, his soul and his body, who have been broken and destroyed by Red John and his family's murder. Teresa Lisbon won his heart, she is a winner: she put the right pieces of Patrick Jane in the right place and built a puzzle.

About the Author - diana mack

Diana (diana mack) is a tv shows addicted. She's from Italy, she dreams to be a real journalist someday - meanwhile she speaks english even in her dreams. But tv series are not the only passions she has: she's a football supporter, cinema lover and a traveller. She studied languages (english, french, spanish, arabic and a bit of portuguese) and journalism in Rome.

  5. Thank you for reading. I found it kinda sweet, maybe because Lisbon managed to surprise Jane and she surprised herself for the success :)

  6. The episode was awesome ! Yeah this cup means a lot. The symbolic of a totally new Jane rebuilt piece by piece...she did a good job. I suppose it was a souvenir she kept when Jane left. Now it's her win game... I loved this !

  7. Yes, it's really symbolic! Only TM could create so many metaphors during its run. Thanks for reading!

  8. Thanks for the review! Especially last paragraph)
This season just can't stop enchanting me! I'm speechless just like Jane was.
*Teacup scene - OMG, there's so much tenderness, delicacy and depth here (I don't even need hot love scenes)
*Wylie and Vega (Veglie, Wyga, Velie, i don't know )
*Jane and Abbot bromance (seems like Jane has found another great friend)
And the case - I really enjoyed wathing it. So, "Bravo!" :)

  9. The final scene was very nice, though I didn't expect them to cut the kiss that short. That lovely kiss in the picture was not shown on screen but NVM the gift was lovely, Jane showed much emotion and gratitude I expected more from Lisbon in terms of her body language or speech, more emotion to match that amazing gift... felt she held back a lot, but oh well, maybe it's just me. Very nice final scene.

  10. One of my favourite shows - the Abbott character is about as strong a supporting character that Mentalist has had since LaRouche. Still miss Red Gracie and Wayne.
Mentalist is very good - sad to see it end but its not quite in the league of the most compelling show - Person of Interest. That show is outstanding in so many ways!

  11. I agree great review thanks Ms Mack! I love this season how they are pulling together memories of the past, makes it even more special for fans watching the entire journey. The birthday scene at the end was so well done. Its like Jane has never celebrated a birthday so it was so special. A simple gift, no money value, but the fact that she saved all the pieces from years ago was really sweet. PJ's reaction when he opened the box made me feel like crying too! Can't wait for next week, the season gets better and better with each episode!

  12. What a great review. I love your analogy at the end.

This season has such a feel-good air about it. I just love it.

The gift was perfect. Kudos to the writer who thought that up. It was a nice warm hug to all the fans.

I'm also loving Rockmond Dunbar this season. His little smirk at times is as endearing as Simon's.

The relationship between Abbott and Jane is well played too. And the team is working so well that I don't miss the old gang at all.
