-Tired:

-Losers (excluding repeats):
“The Taste” (ABC), “Bad Judge” (NBC), “A To Z” (NBC)

———-

-Ratings Breakdown:
Two hours of “American Idol” led Fox to Thursday overnight victory, with a 7.1 rating/11 share in households (peaking at a 7.3/12 in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour). But, year-to-year, this was down by 14 percent. In other words, there is still an audience for “American Idol,” but the ongoing erosion continues.

Despite airing a repeat, “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS topped the night at a 7.4/12 at 8 p.m. Next was sophomore “Mom” at a second-place 6.6/10 at 8:30 p.m., which held a solid 89 percent of Sheldon and Leonard’s lead-in. Featured at the Warner Bros. studio event last night was a screening of an upcoming episode of “Mom,” which should result in another Emmy Award victory for Allison Janney as Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy.

CBS’ soon-to-conclude “Two and a Half Men” scored a respectable (and second place) 5.9/ 9 at 9 p.m., followed by one-the-fence “The McCarthys” (#2: 4.4/ 7 at 9:30 p.m.) and older-skewing drama “Elementary” (#1: 5.3/ 9 at 10 p.m.). Present at the Warner Bros event last night were Jon Cryer, Ashton Kutcher, Conchata Ferrell, Holland Taylor, Marin Hinkle and Melanie Lynskey from “Two and a Half Men” (which will go down in the record books as the longest running multi-camera sitcom – 12 seasons – in the history of television).

As a reminder, “Two and a Half Men” with conclude with a one-hour episode on Thursday, Feb. 19 from 9-10 p.m. ET. Leading into the finale at 8:30 p.m. will be the series debut of “The Odd Couple” reboot, featuring Matthew Perry as sloppy Oscar Madison and Thomas Lennon as neat freak Felix. One week later on Feb. 26, current Thursday 8:30 p.m. time period occupant “Mom” moves to 9:30 p.m. ET out of encore telecasts of “The Big Bang Theory” at 9 p.m.

Over at NBC, veteran “The Biggest Loser” opened with a modest (and third-place) 2.9/ 5 in the overnights from 8-9 p.m., followed by burn-off episodes of canceled sitcoms “Bad Judge” (#4: 1.9/ 3 at 9 p.m.) and “A To Z” (#4t: 1.3/ 2 at 9:30 p.m.), which earned their pink slips, no doubt. “Parenthood,” which concludes on Jan. 29 (after 103 episodes), perked up to a second-place 3.0/ 5 from 10-11 p.m.

Elsewhere, two more hours of ABC cooking competition “The Taste” was a bust at a 2.3/ 4 from 8-10 p.m. And it led into a 1.9/ 3 for an encore telecast of “How To Get Away With Murder” at 10 p.m.

The CW preempted regularly scheduled “The Vampire Diaries” and “Reign” for two-hour special “The World Dog Awards,” which scored a 1.4/ 2 from 8-10 p.m.

  1. Mom should be fine airing out of a TBBT repeat in Feb.
Featured at the Warner Bros. studio event last night was a screening of an upcoming episode of “Mom,” which should result in another Emmy Award victory for Allison Janney as Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy.
    Yes, Alvin is dying.

  2. Mom seemed to do well

  3. Parenthood seems to be picking up a bit as it heads towards its conclusion.

If SVU is heading down a path towards its final stretch, hopefully NBC does something similar and announces a final season in advance so that it can experience a similar momentum boost.

  4. TBBT (r): +0.7 HH (from last time TBBT repeat lead out - December 18).
    Mom: +0.4 HH
    TAAHM: +0.4 HH
    McCarthys: flat
    Elementary: +0.4 HH

    Pretty good for CBS.

  5. I wonder how they will make the episode funny with such a big death involved.

  6. Mom is doing good even following TBBT repeats, makes me think it will do ok at 9:30
How long until Idol starts pulling mid/low 1s?

  7. Impressive for Mom and good for TAAHM.Elementary and Parenthood back to the earth, unfortunately.

  8. Wow! Go A to Z, tied the last episode of The 100!

  9. Shame that this and Bad Judge flopped.

  10. Great for Mom!

  11. I heard its actually a good show but the pilot was painfully unfunny.

  12. There already advertisments on FOX Serbia channel for Empire coming soon. This show is so big that they are already shipping it to the other countries.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The CW missed the cue to renew it, after all it is their most succesful scripted comedy.
    Oh wait...

    ReplyDelete
  14. I mean, Glee is still doing well for The CW, and Utopia did indeed get similar ratings to Reign...

  15. Mom always keep to add humor, even when they are touching a serious subject.

  16. I haven't seen them yet, but that's great! By the way, odakle si? :) (Where are you from?)

  17. I know, I love the show. But this seems to be very serious, so it'll be interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I know, I meant what town? I'm from Serbia, too.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Now I'm not worried about Mom. It will stand on it's own perfectly. It has improved vastly from last season.

  20. A To Z would have worked as a two hour event or movie. As a series, it just doesn't work at all. It's too much of the same thing.

Bad Judge would have done better if it didn't get The Biggest Loser as its lead in. These two shows are not compatible at all.

Overall, NBC just wanted to dump A To Z and Bad Judge. NBC didn't have faith in them at all.

    ReplyDelete
  21. A to Z is very cute, but it's not a broadcast show whatsoever. If it was on a smaller cable network, I think it could've lasted for several seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  22. So proud of Mom right now.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Could be Marjorie too right?

    ReplyDelete
  24. MOM is doing excellent!

    ReplyDelete
  25. She's in the photos, consoling Bonnie and Christy.

  26. D: havent seen those! will go check on them
