As Parenthood is wrapping its six-season run on NBC, the network is developing a new starring vehicle for co-lead Lauren Graham, this time on the half-hour side. The project, Kate On Later, touches on the recent changeover in late-night that again failed to produce a female host of a network late-night show. Co-written by Graham and Liz Tuccillo (He’s Just Not That Into You), Kate On Later is executive produced by daytime talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres.
The single-camera comedy, which has a script commitment, hails from Warner Bros. TV and DeGeneres’ studio-based A Very Good Production. It centers on Kate (Graham) who thought her day job was all her life would amount to when an opportunity arises that’s bigger than she ever dreamed possible. But that opportunity means she’s going to have to break one of the last remaining glass ceilings — the world of late-night network television talk shows. Tuccillo is executive producing with Very Good Production’s DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman, while Graham is co-executive producing.
