The Originals - Live and Let Die - Review

1 Nov 2014

This week’s episode had two major stories. The first being Klaus vs. Mikael. Klaus won the fight, for now. Kol continued to gain Davina’s trust, all the while gathering information. He even came face to face with Mikael at one point. I do wonder what his relationship with his father was like. He seemed just as terrified as Klaus and Elijah did. The other storyline revolved around the werewolves. Hayley, Elijah Marcel and his vampires helped Aiden and Oliver smuggle a group of young untriggered werewolves out of New Orleans. They succeeded but Elijah was captured in the progress. Esther tells him she wants to purify him. (That doesn’t sound good.) I’m assuming they killed Oliver, since Esther probably didn’t have any use for him.

Favorite ‘relationship’: Josh has a love interest! You have no idea how happy this makes me. This means he’ll finally get his own storyline and he’ll be safe for at least another 7 episodes. I’m not sure yet how I feel about Aiden, but so far I like him. He risked a lot to save his brother and I doubt he’ll to blindly follow Esther and Vincent anymore.

Best sass: I think this might be my favorite Elijah episode yet. The sass was off the charts. Especially in his fights. I love the way he always just casually takes off his jacket before a big fight. I don’t know if it’s because he doesn’t want to get blood on it or because he can move better without it, but when he does it you know he’s about to kick some ass.
Friendships that need to happen: Let’s face it, Hayley needs some friends. Friends who’s last names are not Mikaelson. I loved the scene with her, Marcel and Gia. The relationship between Hayley and Marcel was always strained because first she thought he had something to do with the death of her parents and then later because he was at war with Klaus. But now that she knows he saved her as a baby, and then saved her daughter as well, there’s no reason for these two to be at odds. They’re both in very similar positions, both in charge of a community, and I think Hayley could learn a lot from Marcel. As for Gia, with Rebekah gone, Hayley could use a female friend. Earlier in the episode Hayley seemed a bit jealous of Elijah and Gia, but that seems to be all gone now.

Best chemistry: Cami just cannot stay away from Klaus. Even though she knows she’d be better off if she just stayed out of all the supernatural business, she just can’t help herself. There was some real progress in their relationship this week, including an almost-kiss. The fact that he barely touched Davina means that he really cares what she thinks of him.
Least favorite character: Considering both Oliver and Vincent were in this episode, I never expected to say this but Mikael was my least favorite character this week. I feel like he just gets meaner every episode, which I did not think was possible. The moment where he says “Mothers love their children. Fathers make them strong.” shows exactly why his relationship with his children is so horrible. No wonder he hated Klaus so much. Esther’s necklace made him weak so, according to Mikael, Klaus was just a failure. His treatment of Davina during their training was equally brutal. I get that he hates her right now because she’s holding him prisoner but just think, if this is how he trained his children, no wonder Rebekah tried to kill him in his sleep.

Best fight: This fight between Mikael and Klaus is very different from the last one. Last time they fought verbally before Klaus staked him. This time it was a physical fight. But I felt like Klaus had changed a lot since the last fight. He seemed to have more confidence. I think that due to Esther’s revelation about the necklace, he no longer blames himself for being weak. He now knows it was only because of Esther’s magic. Stabbing him with the magical torture knife was a dangerous move though. If he’s not dead, he can always be awoken. I know Klaus wants him to suffer, but as we can see at the end of the episode, he’s going to regret that decision. I’m not sure if it’s something about Mikael that caused the knife to fail or if it was just out of juice. They did use that thing a lot last season.

Best quotes
Josh: “What’s got two thumbs and drinks blood to survive? Oh, right. This guy.”
Elijah: “Brother! Niklaus!” Hayley: “You do realize that literally everyone here has supernatural hearing right?”
Cami: “Yeah well, word on the streets, and by streets I mean Josh, is that you’ve gone totally M.I.A.”
Elijah: “As a devout feminist, I refuse to say that you hit like a girl.”

Next week’s review might be up a little later. I have a mandatory school trip so I’m not going to have much time. But I’ll do my best to get it up by the end of the week. So check in again then and let me know in the comments what you thought of this week’s episode.

There were so many good quotes this week, it was hard to select just a few. So how did you guys like the episode?

  2. I just don't think Joseph & Leah have good romantic chemistry, it's slightly better than the chemistry Phoebe & Daniel have but neither pairing works for me. I'm really hoping they drop both Klamille & Haylijah because neither works for me. I'd rather see them pair Elijah with Gia and find someone new for Klaus.

I agree with you, I'd rather see both pairings as just friends. I also really liked Elijah with Gia. Chemistry may not have been the right word choice, but I do think the relationship between Klaus and Cami is interesting. (I just don't ship it)

  4. I actually don't even know that I want a Klaus/Cami friendship. They guy fried her brain and forced her to do his bidding and spy on Marcel - I'd like to see her have some self-respect and find more positive relationships with other people. I want to see Cami interacting more with Josh & Davina instead of the three of them having some off-screen friendship. We haven't seen the Davina/Josh friendship at all this season nor have we seen Cami really interacting with either character.

I DETEST Cami. Seriously, can't stand her as a character on the show, the way that the writers have written her. She is horrible.

I find it disgusting the way the writers are trying to force the Cami and Klaus together....they have no chemistry as characters....no matter how many times you see her pushing herself up on him. She seems desperate and pathetic, despite her holier then thou attitude....

Further more....she sleeps with Klaus's adoptive son, and then has the temerity to try to sleep with Klaus....come on writers! you can do better! Nothing about these two characters being together makes sense and I for one will never buy into it. Further more, the writers have set the character of Cami up as a therapist to Klaus.... is it not unethical for a therapist to sleep with their client?

I personally shudder every time I see them together.

This show needs more characters. End point.

I do like, that we are getting to see a bit into the backstory of Mikael.

How is it non familial? She has slept with his son! As far as I can see, she definitely likes to keep it in the family! Next she'll start barking at Elijah....and once she's done sleeping with him, she will probably start scratching up on Rebekah! No Original family member is safe from her when she is in heat. IMO.

  9. Isn't Rebekah sleeping with Marcel more problematic? Sleeping with her nephew seems like a place the show shouldn't have gone.

    Agreed.

Don't get me started on Marcel's character.

  11. Are you slow or what? I said it's the best non familial relationship, meaning it's my favorite relationship between two characters who aren't related to each other by blood or otherwise. You are so busy worried about Klaus and Camille that you can't even think straight. I'm not surprised that you are here with your negativity. Because I see you on every site doing the same thing, saying the same nastiness over and over. You don't like Cami? Good for you. The only pathetic person here is you.

No need for you to be rude.

Trust me, I have all my wits and mental faculties intact. Thanks for asking by the way!

My point is, that she may not be family, but she definitely is attracted to all people in the Original family.

Its called play on words (or in this instance, concepts!).

  13. Okay, my opinion is that Klamille is my favorite relationship where the characters aren't related. What you are saying is irrelevant to my comment, so why did you feel the need to comment on my post is beyond me in the first place. Please stop talking to me because you are a delusional and obsessed Cami hater and I do not have the time for it nor do I care.

Again, no need for the name calling. Notice, I am not calling you names.

I totally respect that you like Klaus and Camille together. At one time, I think near the beginning of the show, I felt that in the long term something could happen between the two. However, the writers have to develop the character further. They have taken a character, IMO, one that had the potential to be truly awesome and actually progressive, as a female on screen and damaged her, by having her engaged in senseless non-motivated acts.

I hope that the writer's get a clue and fix this.

I will for sure stop talking to you, however it would be appreciated if you stopped the name calling. As I feel that I have to respond to baseless attacks.

  15. I struggled with the scenes that featured Hayley, especially the first scene with Elijah. And the reason why is because of the actress unfortunately. It's sad because I thought Phoebe was the best thing about The Secret Circle (well...except for Gale Harold) but she really was off this TO episode. I do not have an ear for accents and yet I was cringing as Phoebe flip flopped between her real accent and the one she does for Hayley. I think her acting is still a work in progress and that is never more revealing than in her scenes with Daniel Gilles. I don't want the writers to go heavyhanded in a new romance for Elijah with Gia but do hope that the writers get Elijah away from Hayley and into a plotline more befitting the character and actor.

  16. I can't count how many times the name CAMI is mentioned in all the comment. That people like it or not , we can say that it's a character which really being debated.
I have to say that i love cami and her relationship with klaus but i also think that she need to become a little vicious because she has to be in a supernatural world &understand that sometimes some thing need to be done even if it's not pleasant. Her relationship with klaus is pretty good , they have great chemistry , people who don't see it are not being objective or are maybe blind Lol
I think that klaus need someone who will stay by his side no matter what , he already have elijah but cami is additional support , and he can also help her to see the world differently sometimes.
They can bring many things to each other. And the fact that she slept with marcel is out of the subject because it was just about sex and. In reality it can happen that you slept with someone because you feel alone , or need affection or need to stop thinking ect... And even if she slept with marcel she never forget klaus. He was always in her head because he 'got into her skin'. To finish, i love the fact that they can be there for each other even if they'r mad at each other. He was there when she lost her uncle even if he felt betrayed that she slept with marcel. And she was there for him in 1x15 even if she was still mad at him that he compelld her. They have this strong bond which evolve every day.
