-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening – Sunday 11/17/13:
ABC: + 8, CBS: + 7, NBC: -18, Fox: -33

Note: The following labels are based on the household overnights and are subject to change given the availability of other pending data streams. The overnights are your first look at what to potentially expect when the other results come in. And we always take into account other benchmarks including the expected demographic ratings, potential DVR usage, the critical acclaim (or lack of) and the social media presence. Keep in mind, as always, that results for any live sporting event are always approximate.
-Winners:
“Sunday Night Football” (NBC), “60 Minutes” (CBS), “Once Upon a Time” (ABC), “Madam Secretary” (CBS), “The Simpsons” (Fox)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
Nothing…each of the networks resonated at some point during the evening.

Ratings Breakdown:
The New England Patriots at the Indianapolis Colts on “Sunday Night Football” kept NBC in the overnight winners circle with an estimated 13.3 rating/21 share in households from 9-11:30 p.m. ET. The peak half-hour was 9 p.m., which scored a 14.5/21, and this match-up was 27 percent above the 10.5/17 for Chicago at Green Bay one week earlier (which translated into 18.13 million viewers and as 6.5 rating/18 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data).
Earlier in the evening on NBC was pre-game “Football Night in America” at a 2.2/ 3 at 7 p.m. (#4), a 4.3/ 7 at 7:30 p.m. (#3) and an 8.6/13 in the 8 p.m. half-hour.
Over at older skewing CBS, the overnight results were at now typically positive total viewer results with its combination of “60 Minutes” (#2: 8.9/14), freshman drama “Madam Secretary” (#1: 8.8/13), critically acclaimed “The Good Wife” (#2: 7.4/11) and veteran “CSI” (#2: 5.8/10), which could be concluding this spring given that its current season episode order was reduced from 22 to 18. Year-ago Sunday 8 p.m. occupant “The Amazing Race,” which has lost steam anchoring Friday, brought in more young adult viewers. But, year-to-year, worthy “Madam Secretary” increased by 44 percent in the household overnights. In other words, even shows with a 50+ targeted base can be considered “winners.”
Elsewhere, Fox got a boost courtesy of a primetime football overrun, which scored a dominant 12.5/20 in the 7 p.m. half-hour into a 7.2/11 (#2) for post-game “The OT” at 7:30 p.m. Next on Fox was animated granddaddy “The Simpsons” at a 4.3/ 6 at 8 p.m., which should translate into the vicinity of a 3.0 rating among adults 18-49, followed by sophomore “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” at a 3.0/ 4 at 8:30 p.m., which is expected to lose about a full rating point in the demo.
In time period premiere news, Fox’s animated “Bob’s Burgers” moved into the 9:30 p.m. half-hour with a 2.0/ 3 (#4) in the overnights, which was 33 percent above the 1.5/ 2 for “Mulaney” one week earlier. And the overnight retention for “Bob’s Burgers” out of “Family Guy”(#4: 2.9/ 4) was an improved 69 percent (versus 52 percent for “Mulaney” last week). “Mulaney” moves into the Sunday 9:30 p.m. half-hour on Nov. 23.
On ABC, sophomore drama “Resurrection” was pre-empted by two hours of “Once Upon a Time,” which scored a 4.1/ 6 from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, the 9-10 p.m. portion of the fantasy drama (4.0/ 6) built from the 3.2/ 5 for “Resurrection” one week earlier by 25 percent (and the two-hours should translate into about a 2.5 rating in adults 18-49). Tired “Revenge,” meanwhile, was flat from last week at a 3.8/ 6 at 10 p.m. (#3), which was 52 percent above failed year-ago occupant “Betrayal” (2.5/ 4 on 11/17/13).
At 7 p.m. on ABC was veteran “America’s Funniest Home Videos” at a 3.8/ 6 (#3), which was on par with both the week-ago and year-ago telecasts.

"even shows with a 50+ targeted base can be considered “winners.”
ReplyDeleteWell, not to advertisers they don't- he is so bias!
YAY OUAT is in Winners list :D
ReplyDeleteLooking good for OuaT! Woot woot!
ReplyDeleteyes and you have a cool avatar, may I ask where did you get it?
ReplyDeleteNice for OUAT, it was an awesome episode as well. I noticed a lot of new music in it too.
ReplyDeleteI expected a surge for Revenge, but we shall see what the final demos look like. I hope we get top25 markets today.
ReplyDelete'and veteran “CSI” (#2: 5.8/10), which could be concluding this spring given that its current season episode order was reduced from 22 to 18.'
ReplyDeletehum, CBS already said this cut was the way to lead the way to CSI Cyber without giving it another timeslot. Definitely not the sign the show is over... I can see CBS renewing CSI for a final and shorter season like they dif for The Mentalist, to give a proper to the show... CSI deserves it.
Looks like revenge didn't benefit from it lead in 😒
ReplyDeleteHe's jumping the gun like TVBTN.
ReplyDeleteOUAT is down : 4.1 VS 4.3 last week
ReplyDeleteThe 4.1 is for the combined 2 hour
ReplyDeleteYep. Everyone is making the assumption that CSI will be cancelled because of shorter order. Ironically, the episode order was cut a few days before CSI was bumped for football two weeks in a row. (And, the order was cut from 20 to 18, not 22). Also, Mooves has said CSI will receive a proper farewell as acknowledgement for all it brought to CBS. Doesn't anyone think that if CSI was ending this season, they would've made that announcement during episode cut?
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to say for sure because the 9PM hour has higher viewing and a 4.0 at 9PM can translate to the same ratings as a 4.2-4.3 at 8PM for example. We'll have to wait to the final ratings to know for sure if Once is down or the same as last week. Personally, I hope it did well.
ReplyDeleteIt already had Once's lead-in and it didn't help last year, so I dunno why it was expected to help this year..
ReplyDeleteIs he paid by CBS to talk positively about their shows? The key demo ratings for the CBS Sunday dramas are terrible (range from 1.3 to 1.7) and yet he always has a positive spin.
ReplyDeleteWe shall see when the finals come out
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why so many regulars here in the ratings still tend to draw these type of conclusions from the overnights. While in this particular case you may happen to be right, it may also be that you are wrong. The correlation between overnights and demo numbers is very low and often they even move in opposite directions (as opposed for instance the top25 markets, which are usually a pretty good indicator of the demo numbers to come). So if Revenge was stable in overnights, that could mean it went up, it stayed the same or went down.
ReplyDeleteGreat for OUAT,not so good for revenge!
ReplyDeleteYes and the writers said on Twitter that they are not cancelled... and last year CBS promised CSI is going to have a true ending and that they'd told the writers in advance if the show is over or not...
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the results, CSI is still strong for a 15th years old show they put on a bad time slot... And I'm not talking about all the money it makes them earn worldwide ! :) CBS is still counting a lot on its old shows like Criminal Minds, NCIS and CSI...
It's one of the old ones that the official OuaT facebook page used.
ReplyDeleteWe shall see hopefully it will at least translate into a 1.4
ReplyDeleteIt's one of the old ones that the official OuaT Facebook page used :)
ReplyDeleteYa,i at least hoped for a 1.5!
ReplyDeleteAlso, expect minor adjustments for CBS - a regional late game aired in NYC, DC, Tampa, Charlotte and KC - lineup started 15 minutes late. (Approx 12% of country.)
ReplyDeleteI am not sure about CSI's fate just yet because I feel like if the mentalist's experiment this year works, CBS could do the same next year and bring CSI back as backup in a final season form that it either uses to bridge hiatuses or to replace a failed drama.
ReplyDeleteRegardless, as of right now, I feel like CSI is clearly CBS's veteran drama most likely to be cancelled. Ratings wise, it sits at ~69% of the average. The only shows pulling slightly lower ratings are the Friday dramas (~60% for H50 and ~66% for Blue Bloods) but Friday dramas always need an adjustment of at least 15% to become comparable, which would effectively put them ahead of CSI.
All of this has nothing to do with the number of episodes or the episodes reduction, which I feel are horrible arguments to predict its cancellation or lack of it.
To be fair, he does the same with Laura and that one is on NBC, so I don't think it is particular to CBS shows; it just so happens that CBS tens to have the most old skewing shows.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, CBS has all the bottom 15 of oldest skewing shows on broadcast TV this season so far.
1. The Good Wife: 26%
2. Madam Secretary: 26%
3. The McCarthys: 27%
4. Two and a Half Men: 27%
5. CSI: 27%
6. NCIS LA: 27%
7. NCIS: 28%
8. Blue Bloods: 28%
9. Elementary: 29%
10. Stalker: 29%
11. Survivor: 29%
12. POI: 29%
13. NCIS NO: 29%
14. CM: 30%
15. The Millers: 30%
(Ratio calculated as Adults between 18-34 watching the show over Adults between 18-49 watching the show)
Everyone jumps the gun...even 99% of the people here.
ReplyDeleteIf ONCE can remain stable with last weeks ratings or rise slightly I would be happy.
ReplyDeleteBut with TWD airing against the second part, I am expecting a drop from the first part, but hopefully not by much.
and during Emma does the firework, the beautiful music from Rumplestilskins and Belles vow we can hear.
ReplyDeleteAnd that still doesn't change the fact that I don't get why people assume that Revenge would suddenly benefit from Once's lead-in when it already had that lead-in last year and still didn't do well then.. Revenge is a very serialized show that is not expected to suddenly get a surge of casual viewers just because of its lead-in.
ReplyDeleteCBS tends to look at total viewers vs. demo. If you look at its new programs, most are intended to reach the older viewers. I think last year was the first time CBS won in the demo since 1993 and that was due mainly to Fox and ABC loosing viewers versus a change in CBS programming.
ReplyDeleteWell, obviously the 50+ isn't hurting, CBS still get the big bucks. I don't see the advertisers pulling out.
ReplyDeleteLast year when it followed Resurrection's premiere it had a major spike and it a best since premiere high though.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I agree with your arguments, but I would put it this way: it's not that I expect Revenge to benefit from OUAT, but I assume that Revenge is being hurt by Resurrection (almost all 10pm shows depend on the lead-in), so I expect it to benefit from the lack of Resurrection (and not so much from OUAT's presence per se). Does it make sense?
Usually you cannot tell how well someone has done until the real ratings come out! Every week it shows terrible for the 100 yet it always Hits a 0.6
ReplyDeleteit depends on the advertiser. Some, like luxury car and drug ads, like the older demo better. CBS does quite well at setting ad rates for an older audience. I think the network has the highest among the networks...special events excluded.
ReplyDeleteNep. CBS, like all other nets, sells adds based on the demos, so total viewers are irrelevant. If anything, and I am not sure I believe that very much but I don't think it's impossible either, I think they might look at the A25-54 demo in some cases, but that's it.
ReplyDeleteThat is not correct. Advertisers do not like the older demo better. The older demo is the easier one to reach, so no one will pay a premium to reach it.
ReplyDeleteYay revenge is up
ReplyDeleteOuch for OUAT
ReplyDeletewonder about half-hours
Interesting to see ONCE half hours
ReplyDeleteGood for Revenge !
ReplyDeleteYesss Revenge! Ouch for OUAT. I thought this episode had a lot of hype.
ReplyDeleteFrom the top25, I would expect 2.4-2.5 for OUAT, 1.4-1.5 for Revenge. The Good Wife seems to have had a bad night over at CBS.
ReplyDeleteWait, why would the numbers change? What is the to 25??
ReplyDeleteThe top 25 are the demos from the 25 biggest markets in the US. They correspond to:
ReplyDeleteNumber of people 18-49 in the top25 markets that have watched the show / Number of people 18-49 in the top 25 markets that own a TV
The final demos are the same but corresponding to all markets.
Good thqt revenge rose how was the episode? I will watch it tonight in Addition to the 2 hour OUAT
ReplyDeleteIt seems like Revenge will do something around 1.4-1.5, but it would be sweet if it stays on that 1.6!
ReplyDeleteDo the final demos usually change from the Top 25?
ReplyDeleteIt rose that is the most important!
ReplyDeleteIt was a step down from last week's episode, but it was still good: more Daniel and Emily scenes! Surprisingly, they are propping up the show!
ReplyDeleteAny bump is welcome ;)
ReplyDeleteCBS' and NBC's usually stay the same or go up but ABC's and FOX's have a tendency of going down.
ReplyDeleteThat is nice to hear. Actually, last episode did not really get good until the last 5 minutes and the Elevator scene
ReplyDeleteYes they do, although most shows tend to have similar behaviors across weeks. Some shows tend to grow from top 25 markets (typically CBS shows, some NBC shows), others tend to fall (CW shows, FOX shows). If you know the average relation between one and the other you can try to extrapolate what the final rating will be, though it is always subject to change, of course.
ReplyDeleteWell there's going to be a new major villain so that should probably raise the stakes for revenge
ReplyDeleteLooks like Revenge will get that 1.5 after all!Yay!
ReplyDeleteABC :
ReplyDelete2.4/2.3 OUAT
1.5 Revenge
CBS :
ReplyDelete1.5 MS
1.3 TGW
1.3 CSI
I was hoping for a tad higher for OUAT but that's still an amazing result. And Revenge inched up, I hope it's not adjusted down.
ReplyDeleteThat's a season high for revenge
ReplyDeleteSeason high for Revenge! The retention from OUAT was an ok 65% (from its 9PM portion), better than Resurrection thus far.
ReplyDeleteHoped for better for OUAT, but it did well and I'm happy it propped up Revenge, even if it was only a little
Full Numbers are now in the table.
ReplyDeleteOUAT halves hours: 2.5/2.3/2.3/2.4
ReplyDeleteRevenge: 1.5/1.4
Not according to what CBS is telling Wall Street. Also, if that were the case, CBS wouldn't be developing shows like NCIS NO and Madam Secretary, and in past years shows like The Good Wife, Blue Bloods, Elementary and Person of Interest. All of these shows have older lead actors and content aimed at an older audience. Now compare these shows to Scorpion and HTGAWM, Scandal and Revenge and notice the differences. Also, look at what CBS tends to cancel first and what has been around for years... NCIS, CSI, CM. The CW is primarily CBS' youth vehicle. Some comedies too. It is to early to say what CBS has in mind for their new online model, especially when coupled with their semi-recent talk about growing their content development business. It could be that CBS will use online target the younger demo, particularly if it develops content specifically for its online platform. But for now, CBS contimes to be the network for seniors.
ReplyDeletehere are the 18-34 ratings per showbuzzdaily:
ReplyDeleteABC:
OUAT: 1.9
Revenge: 1.2 (season high)
CBS:
Madam Secretary: 0.6
TGW: 0.6
CSI: 0.6
FOX
Simpsons: 2.6
B99: 2.0
Family Guy: 2.2
Bob's Burgers: 1.6
NBC:
Football: 5.0
ABC's Thursday programs tend to go down from the top 25 preliminary ratings. Those programs likely appeal to large cities and less to smaller towns.
ReplyDeleteIf it managed to perform consistently on this level come Spring I think it would get a Spackle renewal next year to get it to 100 episodes. This is basically the same number as Nashville, Castle and Shield and all of them (with the exception of Shield) have easier situations time slot wise
ReplyDeleteRevenge is sure on an upward trend
ReplyDeleteOUAT improved Revenge a little, mostly boosting its 18-34 ratings to a very respectable 1.2
ReplyDeleteOHH THANK GOD 1.5 FOR REVENGE.
ReplyDeleteThis week's OUAT helped, but I sure would love for the show to continue to go up upon its return 2 weeks from now!
ReplyDeleteAnd it was on par with its last year 9PM airing
ReplyDeleteAnd Revenge only loss 1.25m in viewers!
ReplyDeleteAt least now we know that revenge still has life in it
ReplyDeleteI am curious to see the scheduling we get for the remainder of the year. While Resurrection will be forced to air 4 episodes in January, Revenge only has to air 2 and tha's already assuming it's preempted on Easter Sunday again. Airing on 04/01 and 25/01 would be better competition wise to avoid the Globes and the NFC in the weeks in between, but I doubt ABC does that.
ReplyDeleteIt NEEDS to move to 9 though!! Asap!
ReplyDeleteRevenge woot woot season high!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteVery nice for B99. Can see that 3rd season renewal in the distance.
ReplyDeleteIkr revenge would be hitting 1.5-1.7 on a regular basis if it was still at 9
ReplyDeleteOUAT will likely adjust up too so no change from the last few weeks really, which is what I expected.
ReplyDeleteNow that's what I call revenge on the trolls on tvbtn
ReplyDeleteYear to year comparisons:
ReplyDeleteOUAT: 2.4 vs 1.9 (+26%)
Revenge: 1.5 vs 1.5 (on par)
TGW: 1.3 vs 1.4 (-7%)
Simpsons: 2.9 vs 1.8 airing at 9PM (+61%)
Family Guy; 2.2 vs 2.2 at 9:30PM (on par)
And today's rating prove my point. Do you really think Madam Secretary and The Good Wife were developed with the thinking... "Hey, these shows are going to bring in the younger demo"?
ReplyDeleteHere are the 1/2 hr breakdowns

ReplyDeleteTotal Viewership retention of 81%
ReplyDeleteThat's amazing for ABC ! Sadly, Revenge will go down in 2 weeks and in January.
ReplyDeleteWhy will it go down in two weeks?
ReplyDeleteSome eye-opening random year to year trends from this week:
ReplyDelete- ABC was up an hefty 10% year to year in raw numbers which will probably be a growth of ~20% in PLUS. And apart from the double OUAT, there wasn’t really an obvious artificial booster to this. That’s just crazy in my opinion.
- CBS, meanwhile, just had an horrific -24% week year to year! What is scarier is that the previous week it also had a 25% drop year to year. While there are some attenuating circumstances in both weeks (Tuesday preemption the week before for election, Friday preemption this week for the horribly rated awards), the fact that it’s close enough to get to this kind of drop is really something.
- After 7 straight weeks of negative year to year trends, NBC finally had a positive week, up 5% year to year, though it’s safe to say the enormous and sadly one-off Wednesday lineup, which was up 68%, is the main responsible for this.
- CBS is falling behind the 3-way race for the top with ABC and NBC virtually tied at 1.94 and CBS lagging a bit at 1.87. However, CBS is probably the network that will have the best Winter out of the three so this could change very easily.
(Note: All numbers exclude Sports, Saturdays and Sunday 7pm airings. Last night's numbers included are preliminary)
I will write sth on TVBTN
ReplyDeleteIt's leading off from Resurrection again.
ReplyDeleteABC was up 41% last night!
ReplyDeleteI hope that they don't put it in January this year
ReplyDeleteOh right. I thought it was for another reason
ReplyDeleteThey will but it scored a 1.8 there last year
ReplyDeleteAccording to TVLine, they will... ( ABC is really stupid )
ReplyDeleteIt's like they believe Revenge will magically do a 1.8 again there. Lightning doesn't strike on the same place twice ABC! (But I hope it does)
ReplyDeleteThey haven't said the exact dates yet
ReplyDeletewhat about FOX's numbers?
ReplyDelete" RESURRECTION | Sunday, Dec. 14 Now Sunday, Dec. 7*
ReplyDeleteREVENGE | Sunday, Dec. 14 Now Sunday, Dec. 7*
* These shows are slated to return in early January"
False, CBS is not getting big dollars for its Sunday dramas. The ad rates for MS is $73,525, TGW is $87,210 and CSI is $98,138. Those are low rates compared to other dramas on other networks.

CBS has PR that spins positively but the reality is completely different. CBS makes money from football and The Big Bang Theory not these lowly dramas.
Well I don't even know what to say about FOX most of the times these days. Tuesdays were actually a very positive day this week, up 4% year to year, which is amazing considering the horrific way they've started the season there (the first four weeks went -43%, -35%, -33%, -40%). Sundays took an average league drop of 13% last night and Mondays aren't that far with -18% (though for what is clearly regarded as their best night it should be better IMO). But Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are a dump-fire with -32%, -25% and -39%, respectively. All of this amounts to a horrible -19% for the whole week, though to be fair they are down 21% year to year so far, so this week was better than the average I suppose.
ReplyDeletewell still good but lower than last week. Damn. It should have deserved more. :( I hope it won't go any lower...
ReplyDeleteThe Resurrection schedule is quite obvious IMO. They have four episodes to air and there are 4 Sundays between Christmas and the Super Bowl. Therefore, I expect Resurrection to air 04/01 (normal night), 11/01 (against the globes), 18/01 (against the NFC) and 25/01 (normal night). As for Revenge, is is trickier to guess because they don't need to air that many episodes in January (just two), though they still might opt to air 4 and have a consistent lineup of Galavant, Resurrection and Revenge for the whole month. I think they should at least consider swapping the two dramas during that month though. One is clearly dead and the other could still have some future value.
ReplyDeleteMS will likely adjust down based on half hours and that 15 minute overrun. Was it really worth it CBS to dump TAR for MS? Seriously, MS has hurt TGW. I'm just perplexed by MS/TAR and CSI, well, Stalker being down 25-30% from CSI's numbers last year. Another move that isn't paying off at all.
ReplyDeleteGood for REV to get the bump. I thought OUAT would hit 2.6, but it far surpassed RES in 9 p.m. hour (double!) and against TWD. If ABC can find right series to put at 9, then I think REV might get another half season or season because it's still doing better than anything that's been at 10.
FOX - glad BB's got a shot at 9:30. Not perfect, but like REV, definitely better than predecessor. At this point, FOX has to find a way to stop the bleeding.
Revenge, wow! Just wow!! Amazing episode!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe most valuable thing about MS is probably how much it helps The Good Wife. Other than big bang boosted Mom, The Good Wife is CBS's scripted show with the best year to year trend, down only 5%. Madam Secretary is clearly being of help to the good wife. Although lower in volume than TAR, it makes up for that in compatibility.
ReplyDeleteWasn't OUaT supposed to be one 2 hour episode not two normal episodes?
ReplyDeletehope that 2.3 still gives us season 5. Hoping next week doesn't do 2.3 again & so on like that. Damn. Plz season 5... don't leave.
ReplyDeleteOnce Upon a Time is virtually certain to be renewed, it is in no danger whatsoever.
ReplyDeletenot even if it keeps doing 2.3 or lower since next ep?
ReplyDeleteNot even then. It would have to go consistently below 1.8 or something like that to be in danger and even then it would be a bubble show if it stayed around 1.6 or so.
ReplyDeleteseason 6 is sure for you too? What does being a bubble mean exasctly?
ReplyDeleteBubble show means it could go either way in terms of renewal or cancellation (like Revenge is right now).
ReplyDeleteI don't predict beyond the current season. Season 5 is a sure thing. I would guess that Season 6 will happen easily but that's just a guess, not an actual prediction since I have no data for that.
It kind of was and it wasn't, both episodes were episode 8, but split into 8A and 8B.
ReplyDeleteI don't know why he's talking about a primetime football overrun on Fox. The games were scheduled to end at 7:30 and the last game ended exactly at 7:30 so there was no overrun.
ReplyDeletestill mad about Perception TNT that was a bubble yes but it deserved a renewal and now thanks to the new director it's gone and we'll never get it back. I'll be pissed forever and we even will get a cliffhanger so bye bye full season end :(
ReplyDeleteI really just started looking at ratings this year so maybe it's just that I'm kinda new to it, but are all double length episodes split up as two in the ratings, even if aired as one?
ReplyDeleteHow can total viewers be irrelevant? That sounds ridiculous! I would rather have Madam Secretary's viewership over a show with over 2.0 rating but half the viewership. The amount of people watching should matter!
ReplyDeleteWhat sport in those areas had a regional late game? All the football games in those areas had early 1pm games. And CBS wouldn't have aired the San Diego/Oakland game in those areas as Fox had the late game game of the week with Philadelphia@Green Bay.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't. Read the ratings FAQ to understand why: http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/10/renewals-and-cancellations-decisions.html
ReplyDeleteWell this is the first time I've seen a double length episode that wasn't two separate episodes aired back to back, it will probabaly be shown as one when the finals come out maybe.
ReplyDeleteReally happy for B99 ratings this season, the Sunday move was a good idea.
ReplyDeleteIt depends on the network. For instance, Modern Family's third season premiere was labelled as one episode (though it was episode 1 and 2) so we only got a rating for the hour instead of detailed ratings for both half hours.
ReplyDeleteBut, for instance, TBBT's premiere last year (or even this year), despite also being a double episode (an hour long, essentially) was broke apart in two episodes, where we got the ratings for each individual episode.
I hope I made myself clear.
considering that "Madame Secretary" was the #1 drama over all last week. It probably is.
ReplyDeleteI've read a handful of articles in recent years about CBS using more than the typical demo in their consideration for renewal or even what shows to green light in the pilot stage. In fact if you look at networks the trend is going "older" with networks using older actors for leads in their new shows.
ReplyDeleteThey have talked about "Alpha Boomers" being one of those factors they consider. The Baby Boomers are the largest demo and continuing to grow day to day, year to year. Those affluent Baby Boomers tend to watch more TV and be more loyal viewers than the gold standard 18-39 prime demo. It is considered one of their most influential demographics despite not pulling in the big advertising dollars.
The prime demo is still the driving force for advertiser revenue, but it is absolutely not the only thing CBS pays attention to.
Wow, good showing for Once Upon a Time, I'm happy it was a very good 2hrs, I'm continued to be amazed at the Sunday showing on Fox's comedy block kills every Sunday!!
ReplyDeleteForget about Resurrection, give us two episodes of OUAT every week.
ReplyDeleteCBS is giving up a lot of ground - same week last year, which also had FOX DH, TAR pulled a 2.0. MS is certain to drop to 1.4 (based on half hours), but even at 1.5 that's a big drop (25%). I just can't imagine CBS hanging on to MS for four seasons with ratings like that (like TM when it was exposed without TBBT, it's way too low to start and MS isn't getting a real DVR boost either).
ReplyDeleteI don't need to read any article to understand the ratings. I fully understand the ratings system. I've been following the ratings probably longer then you have. For you to call the total viewership numbers irrelevant is an insult to the amount of people who actually watch the show.
ReplyDeleteAn insult is for you to claim that you understand the ratings and then argue that viewership numbers is relevant. Feel offended all you want, it doesn't change the facts.
