    I know this show is attempting to instill the fear that anyone could die at any time, but they're forgetting the big reason why a lot of shows don't do this.


    Once you put that fear into someone, they are significantly more reluctant to become emotionally invested in characters, and you need that investment to make a show work. The writers have made something bad or tragic happen to their characters every three or four episodes.


    What this has done to me personally is that I've pulled back from the show and have chosen not to invest emotionally in it because the writers are obsessed with the shock value of tragic events.


    There was no point in killing Shay, other than to make a point to the viewers that no one is safe. That's not a good enough reason to kill off a favorite character. So far I haven't seen an actual story reason for doing it.


    I don't know...it just seems like the writers are so busy trying to be different that they don't know how to stop.

    I agree 100 percent. Shay was one of my favorite tv characters ever, and I was so emotionally invested in her story and Shayveride. I loved them. Now I'm being very careful not to get attached to anyone else. I was devastated when Shay died. I still don't see the reason why they had to kill her off.

    I agree. Seems like they're trying so hard to make these big drama shots of our characters in danger and they make them targets from bad people or (as in the promo) not even a baby is safe. Everyone has to be in jeopardy 100% of the time. Really sucking the enjoyment from the show. They're either targeted by a criminal or their losing their job from a medical injury or they're in trouble on the job because someone said they did something but they didn't really do it...and killing Shay, bleh. I was neutral on her character but I liked the relationship with Severide. Forced drama is just irritating. A good writing team creates drama that doesn't feel forced and they're really coming up short in that department this season.

    I agree. If they wanted to use her death as a springboard for an interesting story development, they failed miserably. iThis whole Severide-getting-married drama isn't the least bit interesting and Shay's replacement does nothing for me. Shay was really one of the best characters on the show and I loved her friendship with Severide. I'll watch the series occasionally, but it's just not as interesting anymore. It's not just Shay's absence that's a problem, it's the new storylines. I really don't see the point in getting rid of a very popular character on a TV series unless the actor wants to leave or unless it's a series like Game of Thrones or Lost.

    I think Casey is over reacting to the whole Gabby/Mills situation. He was just trying to be a friend. It's not like Casey walked in on them kissing. Plus, she didn't say she didn't know if she wanted to be with him. She just said she didn't know what she wanted to do because she didn't know it would be this hard to be a candidate under his command.

    To be fair Mills has been feeling more than a friend towards her lately, sure he didn't act on his feelings but it's obvious in the way he looks at her.

    Ok. Yea, Mills has been looking at her like he wants to be more than friends. Casey still shouldn't take it out on Gabby. She probably isn't even aware that he is looking at her any differently.

    True, but Casey is jealous so he is not thinking clearly plus they are having a lot of problems so it's a little understandable why he would jump to conclusions.
