  1. just watched the first episode. It was ok. Feels a bit flat. Hoping it picks up a bit.

You can feel it's done at a reduced budget and without the AMC production values.

  2. With the exception that I think some people would find subject matter in 405 a bit off putting, strong season and again, the performances of Joel Kinnaman and Mireille Enos were amazing.
Ep 403 blew my mind. Really IMO ranks up there with Six Minutes from last season.
The finale, what more can you say? For a show that dealt with very imperfect people, it had a near perfect ending.
A cameo by the Mayor (Billy Campbell) helped to tie up Lindens problems in a way I didn't expect.
Seeing Kaiies mom (Amy Seimetz) finally able to get closure was huge for me.
Of course, who didn't tear up when they showed Bullets grave?
Was nice to get a flash forward, so we could see what Holder & Linden did, after their careers seemingly ended.

Wow, I loved it. I'm so sad the show is over, I'm going to miss the characters, but if it had to end, I'm glad it ended the way it did. Not with the shooting of Skinner, but with Linden & Holder content. Thank you Netflix!

  5. Final season was everything I wanted and more! Such an amazing job to Netflix and the show for giving us a great ending and the closure everyone deserved!

  8. It was alright. For the most part, I got what I wanted and expected.

There was some surprising callbacks to previous events and characters, parallels to events from the first two seasons, closure for characters I figured wouldn't reappear, etc. So all of that was nice.

Jack's storyline was pretty great. It was nice to meet Linden's mother and see Linden crack a bit and offer her mother a chance at reconciliation. Holder had several really great moments (lashing out at his sister, realizing that he wants a son, apologizing to Kallie's mom, visiting Bullet's grave, naming his daughter after Kallie)

Sterling Beaumon did a really good job with his role. That kid really hit puberty the right way.

I just wish we could've gotten more paranoia out of Linden and a bit less of the military school.

I hate how Richmond reappeared just to be a deus ex machina. I'm also iffy about Linden's whole speech to Holder about how he was always her home. It felt pretty forced and somewhat unearned.

Other than Linden's role in the last fifteen-ish minutes, I'm pretty content. With so much of the show being cemented in the theme of neglectful parenting, I was hoping the ending would be more about Linden and Holder becoming good parents to their respective children, rather than "I maybe kind of secretly loved you a little bit all along, but also cigarettes."

Also, what was up with that scene in the supermarket where Carolyn was pushing Holder off to get himself some cereal? There was a few skeptical moments with her where I thought she was trying to run off for a quick abortion :S I guess I read things wrong.

  9. There were times in this season (and the series as a whole) where Linden and Holder were characters I could at times, lose interest in, but they always brought me back. I think because they were both such flawed people, this was part of that. They didn't always have a shiny, perfect existence with anyone, including their own family, or each other... yet in the end, found a place they seemed ok with. I am ok with the message being "I'm sort of ok". I don't need every story to have a "happily ever after" theme. This would have felt forced if they shoved in that dynamic since neither of these characters do I think anyone expects to have a happily ever after ending.
I too didn't get the supermarket scene. I kept waiting for it to have a purpose later on...but it didn't for me. Guess Cap'n Crunch must have paid some $ for a product placement.
Sterling Beaumon was sensational I thought. He really did make me feel for him all season, and even after we find out what he did, when I should hate the character, I still felt bad for him. The show has always managed to get great performances out of young actors.

  10. Sorry, Canadagraphs, I can't reply directly to you :S Hopefully you'll see this...!

Linden and Holder were always characters that I was completely invested in. Even during The Killing's low points (the soapy mid-S2), those two characters were what kept me in this show. They're two of the most flawed characters on tv (without being vilified, or completely unlikable), and I love that. They were very real characters to me, and I loved watching their lives unfold and see how they tried to overcome their pasts and gradually achieve something slightly better than what they started with.

With that said, by no means did I want a happy-ever-after ending. If anything I expected (and kind of wanted) a fairly darker ending. I totally fell for the red herring of Linden asking her mother to watch Jack if anything happened to her. I definitely thought Linden would end up in a fairly bad place (not necessarily physically, in prison). This was always too dark of a show for a happy ending. Though, I'm glad it didn't quite end all doom and gloom.

However, the ending message felt like a bit more than "I'm sort of ok" to me. The final scene is definitely somewhat interpretational. To me, it felt like Linden's way of confessing her romantic feelings for Holder. I'm just iffy about the idea of them as a romantic couple. As close friends, I'm all for it.

I think I would've been a lot happier if Linden's explanation for her return to Seattle were something like her now being emotionally stable enough to want to rebuild her friendships with all of the people who always tried to be there for her. So, Regi, too. I think that would've dissolved the interpretational romantic implications greatly, and left a more organic feeling resolution to each character arc.

  11. Really quite liked it overall. Joan Allen was fantastic. Would love to see an Emmy nod for her next year. The last 15 min felt like a different show though. It was sweet but also a little awkward.

  14. finally finished the last ep and it was a great closing season that gave us some good callbacks. Even though the epilogue ending felt a bit out of place as I never really saw a romantic spark between the 2, but it made sense as they were both so messed up but always had each other's backs, plus it was nice to see a little light in the normally rain sodden dreariness that is typically this show. Good close and great work by all and thanks to Netflix to all us to get a close....
