  1. I'm thinking she's talking to Ray Palmer.

    ReplyDelete
  2. As much as I love Felicity, I want the writers to tease about the other characters on the show like Digg or Lance. It seems like at this pace, we'll all know more than half of Felicity's lines in the premier.

Anyways, regarding this line, I'm pretty sure Felicity says this to Ray Palmer

    ReplyDelete
  3. Someone else pointed at that they can release a lot of Felicity stuff without really spoiling anything. It's a clever way to tease without giving anything important away.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I agree. I don't mind Olicity or the Felicity promotion but they should start promoting other characters/storylines too.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Which is kind of what bugs me :p Why is it that Felicity's lines are the unimportant ones but no one else's? Hmm

    ReplyDelete
  6. Nothing about Cupid showing up on the sixth and seventh episodes this season on here?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I submitted this news

    ReplyDelete
  8. Don't get me wrong I love Felicity but seriously all the teases have been things she is going to say, there are other people on the show you know, at least show us a sentence that Oliver (remember him? THE ARROW) is going to say lol

    ReplyDelete
  9. SHIELDNCISArrowfan29 August 2014 at 20:41

might be too much of a spoiler to give away.........hope the Olicity basher don't complain in 3..2...1...........

    ReplyDelete
  10. Technically they only told us three of her lines in the premiere and knowing Felicity that's HARDLY half of her lines the girl can say three sentences in a second lol

    ReplyDelete
  11. SHIELDNCISArrowfan29 August 2014 at 20:46

I sure they will but it still a month away........

    ReplyDelete
  12. OK maybe not Oliver but anyone else I doubt all the other characters' lines are that spoilery.
They probably will just give them a minute to gather their thoughts hahaha

    ReplyDelete
  13. True lol but if I'm keeping score:

-they spoiled her reaction to Oliver asking her out
    -her reaction to the date
    -this line

Idk if I'm missing something. But if they honestly just spoil Felicity lines for the next month, it'll just be too much. I'd like a little intrigue and surprise to Felicity's lines/reactions etc.

Plus, we already have haters saying that this is becoming the olicity/felicity show (even though it's pretty clear it's not)... No need to add fuel to the flame.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I'm pretty sure they're not going to divulge anything Laurel related because she's the most polarizing character on the show. But I don't get why they don't spoil anything Roy, Oliver, or Digg related. I'm sure not all of their lines are super spoilery

    ReplyDelete
  15. SHIELDNCISArrowfan29 August 2014 at 20:51

I think they give a line of Roy or Diggle at some point but right now going by most popular hype

    ReplyDelete
  16. True... Felicity does offer the most hype! But then again, Laurel offers the most 'conversation' :p Despite being ripped to shreds (by a lot of people) about shoving a guy in the hospital, that was probably the second most talked about thing in the canadian promo.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Nicolás Festa29 August 2014 at 20:54

I see her saying this to Ray Palmer rather than Oliver, unless she's mad at him... But i believe she's talking to Ray Palmer.

I would love if they tease something Laurel related...or Thea! I mean, i love Felicity and Olicity, they have the best chemistry on the show and should be the main couple, but this year we have a good storyline for Laurel(FINALLY!) with her having a new mentor/love interest(I hope they did some screen test with both of them... Cassidy already has been demoted to secondary chaarcter 'cause of the lack of chemistry with the lead, SHE NEEDS THIS! SHE'S A BADASS!).

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm keeping score too those were the three lines I was talking about although if we count when she asked Oliver "Where were you?" during the date that would be four lines lol

YES exactly I know Felicity is very loved by the fans and they're over doing it these days to get people to buy the comics but COME ON you're starting to ruin the premiere, I want to be surprised by these lines when I watch.

I agree it could get ugly if they keep doing that even I got a little annoyed when the Arrow, Flash and Gotham writers had that twitter war about what man should Felicity choose, they were doing exactly what the haters were saying, portraying her as only a love interest, that's why I really liked Emily's tweet, she said Felicity would go wherever the gadgets are, that was a very smart reply.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I know that they are doing it for popularity reasons but they are OVER doing it with all the Felicity spoilers, that's why I suggested Oliver.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Exactly!!! I DON'T want Laurel spoilers but I would be happy with any line from Dig or Roy.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I didn't like that either, I mean they guy was already in the hospital and had a broken arm so why hit him?

    ReplyDelete
  22. What other lines were revealed of hers? I might of missed them.

    ReplyDelete
  23. SHIELDNCISArrowfan29 August 2014 at 21:15

we still have 5 weeks before season 3 starts.......I sure they give us something.......else

    ReplyDelete
  24. Previously on Arrow.... LOL

    ReplyDelete
  25. When Oliver asks her out she asks him if there are any cameras around and when he tells her he wants to go on a date with her she says "a date? like a date date?" and after the date goes horribly wrong she says it's wasn't the worst date she ever had.

    ReplyDelete
  26. *head meets table*

can we get some episode spoiler not related to Felicity or Sara please?
I know this is unpopular with fans but:
the overexposure turns them so F&)%)/GHUBng annoying

    ReplyDelete
  27. Okay. I dislike Laurel but in this case its ridiculous to rip her apart from a one second scene in the promo. Its like saying Felicity is reduced to just being a love interest after seeing that 3 second kiss. We don't know the situation Laurel is in when she shoves and twists that man's arm.

What if he is a dangerous criminal who is not revealing the location of a bomb and Team Arrow has gone to the location to find it and they need the information immediately to save lots of people?? This is a speculation but it could be anything. Or may be that scene is to show that she is ready to use alternate methods on bad guys to get results. Who knows at this point.

Sometimes we Arrow fans are just ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Even fans are getting annoyed now.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Probably to Ray though I wonder when that will be in the episode. Maybe after the kiss and Oliver deciding he can't have a public life as Oliver with Felicity?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think it's a line to Ray Palmer.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anything about Laurel please. We know every other character has a dedicated episode by the end of S03 E06. Where is Laurel's story? At last we are interested in her journey and they are not giving anything.

    ReplyDelete
  32. NO NO you misunderstood me I wasn't bashing Laurel I meant that the scene they chose to show of her was a bad choice I'm sure there's a reason why she hit that guy but I didn't like the way it made her look, like a power crazed girl who is waking around hitting injured people in public places (even worse she did that in a hospital) she's supposed to be an assistant DA.

    ReplyDelete
  33. where did you read those felicity lines ?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I sort of questioned Laurel doing that to a man with her DA badge and everything (whatever she's doing technically constitutes as harassment), but I'll leave all final judgement after I watch the first episode. It's not fair to judge Laurel on that one scene without knowing the full circumstances.

If the situation is dire and Laurel is desperate for information, then I'll allow it, if it's the opposite, then I'll probably judge Laurel negatively because it's unprofessional of her as a member of the DAs office.

    ReplyDelete
  35. It was in a lot of interviews at SDCC I think. Either Mark Guggenheim or Andrew Kreisburg said it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. They were said by the producers in interviews during comic-con.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I agree. It all depends on the situation. If the writers have two brains cells to rub in their head they would not do anything stupid making us question Laurel's morals again.

    ReplyDelete
  38. No but seriously, she could really be fired or put to trial for this because she's not a cop. She's just a lawyer and lawyers aren't allowed to beat people up for information, it's not in their jurisdiction (actually cops aren't really allowed to beat people up either so...) Any way you put it, it's unprofessional. I just want to know whether it was worth it or not...

    ReplyDelete
  39. look at this fandom, full of Felicit and Sara fanatics.

There is now place for a flawed person to fit into this mix of 'perfect' people. Because whatever Laurel does will spawn backlash.
I wouldn`t be surprised if they killed Laurel off. personally I enjoy Laurel A LOT more than most of Arrows character

Other than Sara we actually GET TO SEE her journey, her suffering. We don't start off with her as the idealized character but with her at her worst.

But fans don't WANT character evolution, they don't want to have unlikable traits. They want...well...non existant character evolution.
Characters that are so flat that they can live through them.

The same happened with The Vampire Diaries, Caroline was interesting in season 1. She was by far not perfect but rather a flawed and fairly unlikable individual. She started to grow throughout the season into season 2. But mid-season 2 every evolution she had was thrown out and turned her into...a blonde....blow up doll. She wasn't more but a skin for female fans to live through. They started shipping her with every bad boy the fans considered hot...

Sara and Felicity are (in my opinion) a lot alike in that aspect

    ReplyDelete
  40. Just like we feared O D A, they're not committing to Laurel's arc. If they were confident about it they would've publicized it more. While I don't want an entire episode dedicated to Laurel (she's had two seasons worth of arcs), I want to see her moving in the right direction and unfortunately they've been so secretive about that and KC has been quiet on the Arrow front as well... That doesn't give me good vibes

    ReplyDelete
  41. Not sure that "interested" is the best word to use there...

    ReplyDelete
  42. In other words interested in seeing can she not suck the fun out of a scene. Now does that make sense?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yeah, that sounds a bit better. They've built her up so badly that seeing a journey of hers doesn't sound appealing. They attempted a journey in season 2 and it ended up with her being an idiotic drunk.

    ReplyDelete
  44. LOL, cops aren't allowed to beat up suspects for information either, it's illegal no matter who does it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @mac, it really doesn't bode well for you to call us Felicity and Sara fanatics (which ironically is where the term fan comes from, so we're all fanatics. But I understood the negative tone). Fans have an issue with Laurel for a reason. It's great that you love her, but some of us don't because as much as Laurel is flawed, but she's also difficult to comprehend and relate to (at least for me). If you asked me who Laurel is, I wouldn't be able to answer that because I have no clue because her characterization has been shoddy at best. But hey, I'm just another Felicity and Sara fanatic so my opinion might not matter to you!

I respect your opinion, you just gotta respect ours. And if you can't then just ignore the haters! That's what I've been doing with most of the Felicity haters out there. It's as simple as that.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm with you there, the over exposure is making me groan every time I see Felicity's name and I don't want to feel that way about her character.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I had that part in there! God dammit, I edited to add the good wife part in there and I accidentally deleted it :/ Thanks for the correction!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Exactly. Not even a snap with J.R. Ramirez. Almost every other recurring guest star has posted at least one photo with co stars or mentioned each other in social media. The producers are so tight lipped about this character it just doesn't make sense.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I didn't call out every single fan, you can't generalize in that case (or any for that matter).
But the end result is that the less character a character holds the better that character is recieved.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Well I am a Felicity fan and I dislike Laurel, a lot. So I may not be the best person to say this to LOL. I do not mind flawed characters in my show as long as I am able to enjoy them when I watch them on screen. Scandal's Olivia Pope, Revenge's Emily Thorne and even Homeland's Carrie Matheson to an extend. All these ladies makes mistakes repeatedly and causes others harm and get over it. Difference between them and Laurel is Laurel bores me all the time. I am never engaged with her or do I ever feel sorry for her. I don't want to write paragraphs about what I dislike about Laurel. It wouldn't make a difference to your opinion or mine.

I am keeping an open mind for season 3 because they kind of pushed a reset button on her character by bringing her broken family together, recovered from addiction and she is in a better place with her sister and Oliver. Now I want to see if they can make her suck less.

    ReplyDelete
  51. LOL, no problem, I was just amused. I'm sure Laurel has a good reason for doing it, probably doing it to get information that will save lives.

    ReplyDelete
  52. It's pretty obvious Laurel isn't the most liked character on the show, and it will remain as such until the writers/EPs show some promise with her stepping in the right direction. But the problem is, is that we haven't seen that yet. All we've seen is Laurel questionably beating up a guy in a hospital (which is illegal) which is why no one really seems to be interested in her development.

And the problem with Arrow is that they put everything on fast forward so if Laurel does become BC by the end of this season or the next season it won't be believable because the show has set its own rules. Sara trained with the LoA for about 3-4 years, Oliver trained for 5 years. People are just weary about Laurel because they have little faith in the writers.

What I'm particularly worried about is the retconning of Laurel. I don't want the writers to forget the questionable things Laurel has done in the past two seasons in order to make her the 'do-gooder' they seem to believe her to be. Because let's be real. .She's not.

Do I care about Laurel? Not at all. But if the writers are smart enough to make Laurel a more likable character in season 3, I might end up liking her. People will b*tch and moan about it, but if they actually /see/ that she can be better, then I'm pretty sure they'll be on board too. What's that old saying? You gotta see it to believe it? Or something like that?

But damn if I'm ever told what Laurel is like and what she's going through instead of being shown it, then I probably won't end up liking her. Because why should I waste my time on a character the writers obviously don't care about (I mean she gets the crappiest lines)?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Don't worry, friend! I got you covered. We really do seem to have a lot of same thoughts. A lot of our posts start with Agreed. :p

    ReplyDelete
  54. You've seen a trailer and jump to conclusions, do you know who that guy is? Not at all.

"But damn if I'm ever told what Laurel is like and what she's going through instead of being shown it, then I probably won't end up liking her"

You HAVE been told thought what Sara is like and what she went through. You WERE told what Felicity did.

You know less about either characters.way than you know about Laurels....good lord....

    ReplyDelete
  55. Do you think you can link me to those? It's the first time I head of it and I'm looking forward to it.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Please no more loosing her job story line. Didn't we already do that with Laurel? This is the same show where Laurel prosecuted Moira despite their history. Do you think they will show it as unprofessional. Marc Guggenheim might say it was Laurel getting her groove back. That was what he said about blackmail in season 2 (and he is a lawyer in real life *rolls eyes*).

    ReplyDelete
  57. it's kind of funny that a title like the calm makes me feel anything but calm lol

    ReplyDelete
  58. I was not actually referring to you alone. I have seen on other sites how brutally they ripped Laurel's character apart seeing just this one shot. Since it was mentioned here I was lamenting on the silliness of our fandom.

How that scene will be taken depends upon what her motivation is in doing such a thing. If they show her using brutal force as a DA to get a conviction I will also cry foul and be angry at her and give up on her once more. I agree, she can't do things like that when she is an assistant DA. If she was wearing a mask and was a vigilante then it is a completely different story.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Look I don't want to argue, because it seems to me you're becoming more hostile. But it's funny how you jump to the conclusion that I love Sara. I'm not really her biggest fan so I don't understand your point? And it seems as though we're going to get a brief insight into Sara's time at the LoA. And we did see. But to be fair, we're not talking about any of the other characters, we're talking about Laurel.

Didn't you read my post? I said that I will withhold judgment. I'm not tearing Laurel apart. I was just stating a fact that regardless of who it is, it's unprofessional and illegal.

Laurel's downward spiral was terribly handled. We've seen her drink two drinks on screen but we're supposed to believe she's an addict and a drunkard? That's shoddy writing right there. It makes her 'island' less believable to me.

While you understand Laurel and you know her, I don't. I don't know anything about her past other than her being Oliver's girlfriend, I don't know about what happened to her during 5 years Oliver and Sara disappeared, I don't know any of that. And I had the same issue with Felicity but that seems to be an issue that will be solved, unlike Laurel. Like I said, I don't know, nor do I understand Laurel at all. If you do that's great, but I don't.

The EPs say that Laurel is a good person but she's been known to blackmail and kill a man (with no emotional repercussions), they say that Laurel had a tough time in season 2 but to me it didn't hold a candle to what Oliver and Sara went through. This stuff matters to me because it's supposed to be why Laurel becomes the BC, but to me, we've been getting a half baked story.

As I've stated before, I'm really trying to keep an open mind about Laurel. So you really don't have a right to judge me.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Thats so true this fanbase hates on Laurel even when she does something good.

    - My problem with Caroline started in season 3 she was my favourite character in 2 didn't care for her in 1 and l think l dont care anymore.

    - I love that Laurel has flaws but hers are really not as messed up as Oliver and Sara personally speaking they were both worse human beings before worse than Laurel has ever been.

    - The characterisation is why lm more interested in Laurels journey and to be honest l started watching Arrow and survived those first few episodes because of Laurel BC story

Does anyone remember how awesome this season 1 scene with Katie was https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THCqbUGbi1E

    ReplyDelete
  61. eh...what? You said that you wouldn't like Laurel if you were merely told what kind of character she was, didn't you? The same happened with Felicity and Sara.
Don't get me wrong, Laurel is one of these characters I don't care for too much. But it angers me to see fans call solid writing bad while glorifying characters that are frankly walking stereotypes or straight up taken out of second class japanese animation.

I in no way intend to be hostile but I have mad respect for whoever made the decision to turn Laurels journey into a truly personal downwards spiral.
The way it was told wasn't the classic teen soap-y problem-solved story telling but rather exchanging one problem for another. A more realistic approach.

They took a risk with that

I'm not a feminist or anything but looking at how people just seem to search for any fault with Laurel or any given female character while male ones at times are even worse and other females are seemingly issue-less raises more questions to me than answering any.
I'll say it like this: my criticism of Saras and Felicitys writing has caused others to call me a sexist, a jerk and various other stuff I won't repeat here.
So forgive me if I`m tending to sound hostile with their fanbases. Believe me, I seriously hope to see Felicity to get storytelling like Laurel does, I wish such storytelling on every single character on TV. A realistic approach

Full disclosure: give me Merlyn and I'm content but the way people bash bold and well writing character developement angers me. Especially if the discussion spins from Felicity who is....well....one of the shittiest written characters on current television. There is no evolution, no depth no anything but googly eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  62. thank you for posting this, I thought I was alone and/or insane ^^

    ReplyDelete
  63. Not to fight but if Laurel's story telling was that solid she wouldn't be getting this much heat from TV critics forget fans of other females or this show. Lots of Tv critics in internet media and print media who reviews for award winning shows have called Laurel the worst written character on Arrow.

She changes her opinions every episode and her character kicks ass in one and gets damseled in next three or four episodes. She likes the hood, she does not. she hates Oliver, in the very same episode she loves him. she loves Tommy, she does not. she is a do gooder and works for the downtrodden but we never gets to see that. She wants to catch Arrow and put him in jail, she needs his help and use him. Its like the pendulum just swings all around. She even ends up giving romantic advise to her ex lover and sister and I don't want to start about some of the character's dialogues.

If this is realistic story telling and growth I will settle for non realistic ones. As I said she is at a better place now if the writers can't make her likable now then there is no excuse.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Eh, yeah.
Basically Laurels storyline was falling down into abusing drugs, hating herself, being smacked down more, then slowly making her way back up is the storyline.
Her changing opinions were always episode based, I agree that her apology to Oliver and Sara made no sense and I, to this day, blame it on fanservice.
Her changing her opinion on Oliver not being a bad guy is indeed based on the events that took place in the Brother Blood episode.
Blaming Oliver for Tommys death was a natural reaction, you need someone living to blame something on. The Hood did the job.

I could say the same about Felicity but there is no griefing process with her....or anything that would drive her damn character. But hey, you being a Feliciy superfan makes any discussion obsolete it seems

    ReplyDelete
  65. "Lots of Tv critics in internet media and print media who reviews for
award winning shows have called Laurel the worst written character on
    Arrow."

I would sincerely like to see some examples of this. I personally haven't come across a single one so if you could point me in the direction of some reviews from legitimate entertainment journalists who give this particular opinion I would be very grateful.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Are there any serious TV critics anymore though? People that what to actually criticize?
I remember even TVLine critics sounding like 14 year old teens raging about their ship not happening

    ReplyDelete
  67. Hey I am a Felicity fan but I am not oblivious to the fact that she has had no character development beyond Team Arrow. And I am bitter about it. And some of the scenes between her and Oliver in season 2 made me cringe. I was annoyed by her too several times infact in season 2. But you connect with some characters and I did with Felicity.

I do not rate a character's value with how many bad things happened to her/him or how complicated her story is? I rate most of the characters with the criteria am I able to relate to this person or even am I able to understand her motivations for saying things or doing things. I am unable to do that with Laurel in the past two seasons. I couldn't understand her or relate to her triangle with Oliver and Laurel in season 1 at all. In season 2 the arc was there but I don't know if it was the pacing or execution or acting I couldn't relate to her pain.

    ReplyDelete
  68. They're out there but CW shows aren't normally programs that are covered by "serious" entertainment journos.

    ReplyDelete
  69. If we're talking Arrows writing? Yes. Apparenly it matters.
That being said it is how you deal with problems that defines your storyline, the way she dealt with issues through substance abuse and blaming others wasn't well recieved.
But have you never switched your opinion on things after getting the gist of something from the other side or are you just a inconsistent person?

If we want to talk characters that are literally 100% different people from episode to episode we can talk some TVD characters but Laurel had reasons to change her opinions and that was shown.

You have the right to love and hate whoever you want but the constant 'she's badly written/acted/executed' just doesen't sit right with me. Most people say that without explaining their reasoning but most explainations are based on events that just didn't happen.
If someone is hating something before they have even seen it they WILL hate it.

long story short: I can't agree with parts of the criticism and feel like a lot of the non-existant points come through someones subconcious telling you that you hate someone or something.

I too have this, I hate Klaus, Marcel, Roy and various other characters with some valid and some invalid reasons

    ReplyDelete
  70. Turns out I`m just watching the wrong stuff

    ReplyDelete
  71. You and me both, Mac. Then again, I'm not one who wants to read someone wax intellectual about Mad Men or Downton Abbey for page after page in the New York Times either.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Neither do I but it would be great to read someone with actual knowledge of direction, visual direction, story pacing, developement and acting criticize one of these shows.

But none of those people would dare to, imagine a big article calling Somerhalders eyebrow acting to be a terrible attempt to hide the lack of effort, or call Damon/Elena/Stefan abusive or even daring to say that Oliver/Felicity have about as much plot relevance as Jar Jar had in Episode 1

    ReplyDelete
  73. Yes, probably to Ray Palmer. The EPs did say they would have a lot of banter, and that he would go after Felicity and want to hire her away.

    ReplyDelete
  74. If someone did, the article would be long and plodding with obscure references, big words, and would likely be too snooty for Jar Jar references. In short, it wouldn't be much fun. I suppose the criticism for these shows is best left for the writers who enjoy them and we'll just have to accept that limitation. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  75. We know that Laurel will be prosecuting the criminals the Arrow catches, and we know that she will get involved with Ted Grant, probably as a love interest, and end up training with him.

We had a ton of stuff with Laurel last season and a number of dedicated episodes -- the drugs and drinking, the stuff with Blood, the fights with Sara and her parents, being kidnapped at least 3 times -- and none of it made her any more popular.

Maybe if they pull back on Laurel this season and not push her into so many episodes, she'll fit better into the show and be more popular.

    ReplyDelete
  76. That's the thing though, we know Laurel isn't well liked by many many fans, so what kind of feedback would they get promoting her a lot? I do think they should commit if they want to make her better, but at the same thing they would get hate. So I'm guessing they promote what gets the best feedback.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I apologize if you've been called sexist, but this isn't a feminism issue with me. I don't care that Laurel's a woman. If she were a man, I would be judging her the same way. ANd hey, at least you weren't called a racist for liking Oliver/Felicity over Diggle/Felicity as I have.

Like I said before, it's great that you like or can stand Laurel, it truly is! But you have to understand that not everyone will have the same regard towards Laurel as you do, just as you don't have the same love for Felicity as I do.

The difference between Felicity and Laurel to me is the fact that while Felicity doesn't have a back story, she's been characterized well and has been consistent throughout the series unlike Laurel. For me, I can sympathize with Felicity and relate to her at the same time whereas I can't do that with Laurel because of her shoddy characterization. Like I said before, I don't know Laurel as well as I know Felicity. And this has nothing to do with backstory. A character can be perfectly competent and round without a backstory.

Laurel's downward spiral worked in theory but it didn't pan out on screen. What was supposed to be a triumphant return of Laurel was a rushed and unbelievable phenomenon. How can someone be an alcoholic and not struggle with their recovery? It just undermined her whole downward spiral to begin with. The writing was not there. While it was a realistic problem, the execution of said problem was beyond unrealistic imo.

They took this risk with Laurel and failed because from what I've seen, that's when the vitriol towards Laurel started. So it's safe to say that this wasn't a good arc for her as it undermined her character, her values, morals, and how she's perceived.

I don't understand why you keep bringing Sara and Felicity into the conversation because their problems are diffferent and has nothing to do with how I view Laurel. Sara and Felicity have their own issues that I've had problems with and if you'd like to discuss them with me then I'd be happy to in a separate post. (I completely disagree with your take on Felicity though. She's much more than the girl who makes googly eyes at Oliver. I thoroughly believe that Felicity is her own woman and she doesn't put Oliver first. She puts the mission first which is a big difference. And the fact that she'd be willing to date Barry and Ray proves that.)

As for critical reviews, I haven't seen much vitriol from critics, but it's safe to say most of them don't care for Laurel as she barely gets any love from them or many mentions for that matter. Like Stephen Amell said, apathy is worse than hatred.

  78. False, I know a lot of people who like Olicity/Felicity/Sara who also love Laurel. I also know a lot of people who hate Laurel but also don't have any feelings towards Felicity/Sara/Olicity. Please don't generalize.

I hope we get to see Laurel growing from her 'dark days'. I won't buy it if we don't see this growth though, just as we've seen Oliver's and Sara's (although Sara's growth was screwed up when she went back to the LoA, but I can fanwank that she didn't want to go, she just needed to go in order to save Starling. We won't know her true intentions until season 3 hopefully).

Self defense training does not make a world class martial artist. So, I hope we also see Laurel doing A LOT of training and I hope it's made believable because Laurel does have other obligations (being a lawyer and everything which requires a lot of hours, hard work, and dedication).

  79. A character shouldn't receive hate for being advertised a little. That only makes the audience seem incredible juveline. No one is talking about promoting Laurel a lot, but she is a regular like Diggle and Roy. The only reason Felicity is getting backlash is for being overexposed and that's the only reason any character should receive hate upon. Olicity seems to be disliked by many people too and it's getting clearer each time they try to promote them. The secret is balance and the lack of it is what's bothering even some Oliciters.

  80. Hey Mac, I just gotta say I love character development. I love flawed characters. I like Sara. Hell I liked Laurel and season 1, and still don't hate her, because despite everything I want to see her build herself into a hero, something better and bigger. Also Sara is an incredibly flawed character. And Felicity although the least flawed character in the show (granted every other character in this show is so messed up it's disturbing), is still quite flawed, as she is capable of self-doubt, jealousy, fear and messing up. So please don't make generalizations about the fans of Arrow.

  81. Thank you! I honestly don't get it when people say Felicity is a Mary-sue or a flat character or a character who only makes heart eyes at Oliver. Just because she doesn't have a backstory, it doesn't mean she's a flat character. My issues with Felicity is more with the fact that she currently doesn't have a life outside Arrow (understandable as it's something that can consume you) and her being pushed into the background thus only delivering a funny line per week (aka what happened in the middle of season 2).

With Sara, my problem was that she was essentially Oliver's girlfriend for a lot of the episodes after they hooked up. It was just weird. Everytime a girl gets with Oliver, she only revolves around his world. I hope this doesn't happen with Felicity. Then there was the bogus finale where everyone was happy Sara was leaving (wth?) with the LoA. I can only fanwank that Sara truly didn't want to go but she sacrificed herself to save the city from Slade, but I wish we'd been shown this. Why else would Sara go back? I mean she almost killed herself with poison because she didn't want to go back.

I'd just like it if people didn't put down other characters to prop another character up. It's not a great form of debate. For example, saying that "Felicity is awesome because Laurel sucks" or saying that "while Laurel sucks Felicity and Sara suck too" doesn't help the argument.

    ReplyDelete
  82. That is an unfortunate problem with Oliver's love interests.

    ReplyDelete
  83. That's either Oliver or Roy. Called that a few hrs just forgot to post. lol

    ReplyDelete
  84. I agree. There should be a balance even in promotion. Keeping completely silent about Laurel is not the way to go.

I will not believe that none of the other characters does not have a clever non spoilery dialogue in season premiere. Why not give them a chance for a change. Over promotion will kill enthusiasm even if it is a favorite character.

    ReplyDelete
  85. But its what the writers and marc guggenheim are doing since season 2 started. Most of the dialogue teases were always connected to Felicity. Its nothing new.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Maureen Ryan, Alan Sepinwall and Matt Roush (TV Guide) are about the most respected current TV critics. All three like Arrow a lot, especially Team Arrow (Oliver/Diggle/Felicity), Mo Ryan to the extent of saying after the s2 finale that the show needs more Team Arrow because that's the best thing about it. Alan Sepinwall wrote a column about people who should have got Emmy nominations but didn't and he included EBR as someone who came on the show and with her character changed the show completely around.

They tend not to say things like "X is the worst character" for any show just because they are reputable critics but there's not a lot of love for Laurel.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Also people tend to act like Felicity is a squeaky clean angel. She was a hacker who did illegal things even before joining Oliver. And look at her stand about killing bad guys. Its Oliver who worries about it. Felicity in S2 E1 asks "so what" when Oliver mentions killing people. Also it is her who urges Oliver to do whatever it takes to get Thea back. Her stand about Helena for instance. Oliver believes Helena can be saved. Felicity thinks she needs to be stopped with any means.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Its different while the show is on air and in between episodes. We get promos, sneek peaks, actor interviews and episode summary along with these Felicity dialogue teases. This season break the most of the promotional material in revolved around Felicity or Olicity. Its the media's fault too. They highlight these more than other scoops. Its just that Marc Guggenheim already posted two Felicity related dialogues from Arrow 2.5 few days before and now another dialogue tease from Felicity for season 3 premiere. Its a bit much.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yeah I forgot how Felicity's morality is somewhat morphed, She went from hating to killing to more or okay with if it involves criminals.

    ReplyDelete
  90. That's my point though. I dislike her a LOT, but it's just weird that for a character said to have a big storyline this season to just not get any promotion.

    ReplyDelete
  91. You are right. Media, especially internet media asks question the questions most fans tweet them and that will be Olicity as they are the majority in internet fandom. I was not blaming fandom at all. Why would they ask about something they are not interested in?

But EPs should also take care every part of the show is showcased once in a while. I have no idea why KC is not posting any pics with JR. Has he started shooting? Are we sure he features in 3x03? or is it fan speculation? But atleast Arrow official facebook page, twitter or any of the EPs can spoil something or some dialogue. We know Felicity, Roy, Digg, Thea/Malcolm all have episodes featuring heavily on them by E06. But no news about KC after SDCC. Its puzzling.

    ReplyDelete
  92. After 2 yrs. I have no interest on her whatsoever. That's why i never comment on her, b/c nothingg good will come from it. I'm soo over her. Sad but true. I tried. I really did. More than i should've. But my peak has reached. But for the ones that are looking forward to her arc this season...well hopefully they won't be disappointed. Again.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I would say those are the characters that unlike Laurel didn't have much of focus on them. Perhaps Laurel wasn't written good but at least she had quite a few storylines that focused on her.
There appeared a BTS photo with Cassidy where she was wearing a badge in what looked like a gym where you could read Wildcat in the background. That was at the time when they were shooting episode 3.
Yeah most of the official media sites didn't feature much of Laurel/KC during the summer. It was practically a Felicity/Olicity love fest, with some Team Arrow, including Sara and Roy. And i think if you are O/L fan its best not to wonder to the official arrow site on tumblr.
I am wondering the role Laurel will play in the premiere. Because they probably wont spoil anything regarding Sara and Laurel. That basically leaves her dad and the new partnership with Oliver.
I am not sure how i feel about the lack of media coverage regarding KC/Laurel in comparison to EBR/Felicity. Since we practically got zero interviews with EBR during season 2 i want more of that, on the other hand KC got a quite amount of press before the finale episodes of season 2.
She also has done quite a few cons which in normal case would give quite the publicity. Look how people are talking about Stephens and Caitys appearances. But since her PR people said no to filming we don't get her input on her character.

    ReplyDelete
  94. The thing is KC has had more con appearances and interviews than EBR after the end of season 2. But yet we know nothing about her arc except its interesting. And you can't blame the official news sites because if EPs don't give up any news about Laurel how will they print it? Unlike what most people believe I don't think her importance or screen time is going to be any less this season. After all KC is the most paid actress. I think they are being extra careful with her spoilers because they fear fan reaction before the show airs. If they say she will become BC a group of fans will riot. If they say about her role in Team Arrow people will still riot. Its a lose lose situation there.

    ReplyDelete
  95. I think the fact that she is the most paid actress on Arrow actually is a factor against her in the big scheme of things. She almost has no presence as the leading lady that she was cast. Are the studios satisfied with what she brings in and is her current salary worth what she brings to the table. I am not sure when her negotiations are up but this will definitely play a factor in it. Some rumors indicate its this season. And the reason why this could be make it or brake it season for her. Arrow always struggles with their budget. And KC being paid the same as SA as was the case in S1 just isn't profitable.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Every interview the EPs gave regarding Laurel in season 2 was overinflated BS. Nothing they said translated on screen. This season they have taken the extreme opposite route. Be completely silent about her. I don't think this will work well either. Did we hear anything new about her character or any episode from dragon con?

Regarding her contract and budget it all depends on how much value the network and EPs put on her which we have no way of knowing. I don't think they will write her off. From what I have seen in interviews and cons and upfronts KC has good vibe and relationship with her co stars and EPs. But more than this the main factor is her character's name "Dinah Laurel Lance". They simply can't write her off. There is years of story for this character in the source material. They will have to make her BC at least once in this show before she can go a(or if she goes away) unless KC decides to walk away.

PS: Regarding Ep. 3 and Wildcat, Laurel may go to wild cat's boxing ring but may not meet "wild cat" himself. Maybe he will feature only in upcoming episodes. That's why we never heard any chatter about his shoot in social media.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Please remind me not to hire Marc Guggenheim as legal representation if I ever go to court about something.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I don't think they will write her off just that she will became a regular. For me Stephen is the only lead on this show. And while in S1 Katie had the status of female lead, i dont think that was the case in S2. I am curious of how DC will handle this, since they have been really supporting of Sara as BC.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Personally I don't think once they give the characters to the show DC meddles too much in their progress or evolution on the show. Its the WB and EPs that run this. TV show audience are really different from comic book fans in number and in preference. DC can only meddle so much as the audience is really different here.

The thing about Laurel is they had a 5 year plan for her evolution to become BC which will parallel Oliver's journey in flashbacks when they first started the show. But they changed the tone and pace of the show completely in season 2 but left Laurel's story line with initial pacing. In season 2 they should have fast tracked Laurel's journey into BC. Tommy's death was enough motivation for her to want to put on a mask. Instead they gave her a twisted drug story line, at the end of which audience are left asking why would this girl want to be a super hero and could she be one? Also they introduced Sara who is a total bad ass and overshadowed Laurel in every which way possible. If she didn't have the name Dinah Laurel Lance she would have already be gone. But now they have written themselves into a corner by changing the pace and has to fit her in somehow.

I just wish they will do a somewhat believable transformation of Laurel into BC and not kill Sara (how many times in a show you can see a character die?). I want to enjoy the show completely.

    ReplyDelete
  100. They practically gave most of the attributes of DLL in comics to Sara. Add the fact that they also gave Sara the close relationship with Sin. There is practically nothing left that they could attribute to Laurel alone.

    ReplyDelete
  101. BTW J R Ramirez did not shoot for wildcat in episode 3. That was wrong speculation it seems. According to his twitter and instagram he is only now joined the crew in Vancouver. So he will debut in 3x05 or most probably 3x06.

This means journey of Laurel to BC will start only in 3x06.

    ReplyDelete
  102. nope Katie Cassidy is at New York fashion week so i would guess she isn't much in 6th episode.

    ReplyDelete
  103. So now that J R Ramirez is there KC is not :s I am confused now. From the actor's twitter and instagram it looked like he is only starting to shoot Arrow. May be he will shoot in a block and they will add it to Ep. 3. Or maybe its Arrow who meets wildcat first not Laurel. What is happening with this character?

    ReplyDelete
  104. I am not sure but i am starting to think WB is the holdout on the Laurel storyline. The EP can make lots of plans but if they don't get OK from WB there is nothing they can do.
