    Seeing the reactions of the gallery, one faction rejoicing as one sat stoically... and then in a lunge and single punch it all changed, His revenge fueled his iife and in the end was the cause of his death as well.

    Tyrion definitely had a point when he said "If you want justice, you've come to the wrong place."

    Damn it just as I was starting to really like Oberyn, this has happened to him. I was not expecting that outcome at all. I guess that's R.R. Martin for you. I feel sick to my stomach and still speechless after seeing that fantastic but gruesome fight. I will deeply miss Pedro Pascal/Oberyn. One of the most badass characters on the show.

    Anyway, Arya's reaction after realizing that Lysa Arryn has died was absolutely hilarious.

    Oberyn was such a fun, charismatic, and just character you know he wasn't going to last on this show. I also feel that Dany kicking out Jorah will come back to bite her. Something bad is going to happen to her and her hubris will be her downfall.

    Fantastic ep, mainly for the battle between the Mountain and Oberyn (who very much reminded me of Manny Patankin's character in the Princess Bride and his duel with the 6 fingered man who killed his father - lol)... fantastic scene and battle and even though I knew the outcome, I am very sad as his character was sooo awesome in a short amount of time..... the rest of the ep was largely set up and nicely done for the most part.. got a kick out of Arya's reaction to Lysa's death and loved the Jamie/Tyrion beetle smashing conversation in the cell

    I was really bummed to see Puss in Boots die on the series. I wasn't a big fan of the Martells or any of the Dorne crap in the books, but Puss In Boots made me love him. And it killed me to know he wasn't gonna make it through that fight. *sniffs*

    Quick thing on the first 40 minutes: pretty interesting, but we all were waiting for the ending.

    That talk between Tyrion and Jaime was great. Made me smile and laugh before the impending fight. I love watching Peter and Nikolaj interact, it's too bad that's going to be ending soon. Maybe someday again.

    That fight. I knew what would happen, but it didn't take away from seeing it happen. Oberyn was a freaking bad ass in that fight! Everyone claims the Mountain is the greatest fighter in Westeros. Yes, he may be freakishly big, freakishly strong, and quicker than you might expect... but Oberyn completely had that fight. It's too bad Oberyn's lust for revenge got in the way of killing the Mountain for good.

    RIP Oberyn, go and join the rest of the favorite characters who have fallen before you.

    -Was the Grey Worm and Dany's handmaiden scene in the books or was this just a way for HBO to throw in another unnecessary nude scene?
    -Sansa has learned the politics of survival at an alarming rate... about time.
    -Gotta love Arya laughing over the insanity of her situation.
    -Anyone else got the feeling that Oberyn still basically won the fight? He got exactly what he wanted, the Mountain's confession. He probably didn't intend to die, but I'm guessing we've heard the last kind word pass between House's Martell and Lannister
    -Loved Tyrion's speech about bugs.
    -I actually feel sorry for Jorah... the prick.
    -Ok, this show does kill off major character's at an alarming rate... please let Tyrion be one of the one's who lives throughout the series.

    I hope Ser Jorah finds a way back to Danny.
    I like how Sansa is turning to be. I like her bond with Littlefinger, I think she could learn a lot from him.

    I do not recall any scene like the one with Missandei and Grey Worm. Dany has more handmaidens and book Missandei is like 10 years old. Soon as the role was aged up most book readers assumed there would be a nude scene! XD

    I think they did it to personalize both roles, because in the books they do not get a lot of character development really.. Grey Worm was a commander of the Unsullied, but he was mostly a silent figure following orders. Plus in the books Dany had another champion named Belwas that fought for her and had more dialog and interactions etc. Sadly, Strong Belwas never made it to the series.

    I really liked how they played out that scene too!
    Sansa was really in control of the situation and making her own choices, unlike the books where she was force fed Littlefigner's plan.

    It makes me appreciate the character more and more quickly than I did in the books.

    I assume we will still get the Lords Declarant scenes next year...

    It really is a tragic series on most levels!! XD
    GRRM kills Ned to build up his son Robb only to kill him and Catelyn and scatter the living Stark children across the Seven Kingdoms. Just when you think you will get some payback gainst the Lannisters in the form of the M^&*#%F%&^ing Red Viper, GRRM rips it all away and kills Oberyn. As tragic as the TV series is, I think it is even worse in the books since we get so much more insight to the characters...


    GRRM, and now D&D, are turning us all into masochists who will just take whatever they dish out to us! XD

    I always loved the Dorne chapters in the books, but with how well Pedro Pascal (And D&D's writing) nailed the Red Viper I am looking forward to next year even more than I expected!

    I let myself hope that maybe they would change the fate of Oberyn, lots of fans speculatated that perhaps he would be terribly injured but not dead. But oh no it happened and it was brutal. A lot of characters get killed of in this story and when I read the books I started getting a bit desensitized
    to it but the death of the Red Viper devastated me and it did on screen as well. Farewell dear Prince.

    Sansa is really playing the game here and it shows her in a better light than the books did, I loved her at the end in the badass dress lording over her cousin and Littlefinger. Oh Arya, I figured that would happen and obviously the average soldier has no idea that Sansa is up in the Vale so now the sisters can't reunite.

    I understand now why they sent Gilly to Mole Town, so we can see the Wildings attack from the POV of someone we care about but also so Ygritte can have a moment of compassion before well yeah book spoilers!

    What you call unnecessary, I think was VERY necessary. Missandei is just so cute. After 4 years of nudity on this show, it's nice to see a woman of color get naked for once :-)

    Why oh why Oberyn did you get so cocky? All it would have took was one more small jab with that spear and you would still be alive and the mountain dead. Only one thought was going through my mind after the episode Is the mountain actually dead?

    I really liked her scenes in this episode. It shocked me how different they veered from the books with her though but it's different in a good way.


    I felt her reveal to the Lords about who she is, was also smart on another level because she's letting other peeps know who she is besides LF so if she does in fact need to GTFO and away from LF, she still has the option to do so and isn't forced to stay with him - especially after seeing how warmly they greeted her.


    Also, the more peeps who know who she is, the easier time she'll have going BACK to Sansa Stark later on since otherwise peeps could claim that she's liar without strong allies to back her claim that she IS Sansa Stark.

    Even without that ast event, I think this was my favorite episode of the season. It just felt more expertly put together, with great pacing and a lot of setting and pay-off for all characters, in their different stages. It didn't feel like we were just "checking up on them" has it has happened with several scenes this season, but all scenes felt like complete narratives, or part of a larger one as setup/conclusion. And the moment that was just character interaction (Jamie and Tyrion) was just delightful and I would have watched a whole episode about them talking.


    And then the Viper v/s the Mountain. HOLEEE MOLEEEE. Like whoa, now words making, just whoa!


    Shut out to the Stark girls, who where awesome, each on their own way; but specially Sansa this week.

    I don't even know what to say, I'm so sad right now. Oberyn is dead and he was my favorite this season, finally someone who hated the Lannisters as much as I do (except Tyrion), and Tyrion might die now.

    And Dany and Jorah are at odds now, they had probably the most stable relationship on this show and I'm gonna miss it.

    I wonder what Jorah will do now that he's again an exile? Wish Dany could've let him explain in full why he didn't spy anymore. Oh well, and Tyrion, the sentence of death yes..not the execution yet we still have the finale to watch. I'm not giving up on him yet.

    Yep. I do not always understand the changes D&D make from the books, but they usually do pay off later in some way like Gilly being our POV into Mole Town this episode like you said.


    This season has really changed how I look at D&D's handling of the material. It used to irk me when any changes were made in hte early seasons, then it bothered me when big changes were made for no apparent reason, but now I just let them tell the story that they want to tell and enjoy the ride!

    That's probably right, somehow its part of the charm of the show. I don't know if any other show has ever done this to me. There are shows that have hurt me, but I think there is no show that has hurt me as much as GoT and somehow I continue to love it

    Yep I'm pretty much on board with what D & D do, they know how the story ultimately ends so I like to think the show and the books will conclude the same way but the journey getting there will be different. And its good it gives us nice moments with Grey Worm or unexpected pairings and means book readers have surprises as well.

    It was really nice to see Sansa actually begin to play the game for the first time. Telling Lady Anya Waynwood and Lord Yohn Royce who she is was a serious power play!


    Like you said, it takes power away from Littlefinger and provides her a possible out later, but it also establishes her own power for the very first time. Sansa has been a pawn in other' people's plan for a very long time, but now she reclaimed her name and her identity.

    IF you watch the Inside the Episode video for the episode Benioff notes that any other man who had been stabbed through the chest and poisoned would likely be dead, but this is the Mountain....


    So he likely did live through the fight, but he has been poisoned by the Red Viper....

    -Red Viper verses The Mountain! Big things can fall, but landslides are still dangerous for poisonous retributive snakes!
    -Everyone's face when Pycelle was speaking at the opening of THE EVENT = priceless XD
    - I love Missandei and Greyworm! <3 (Dany, you better not interfere with that!)
    - Love Arya's uncontrollable laughter at the gate after learning her aunt died.
    -Really impressive Sansa scene...maybe she's learning!
    -Dany! So childish! (and Bannister, not sure if you have the right)
    -At least Y'Gritte did something kind...but boy what a slaughter...looks like they're almost at Castle Black!
    And Jeesh, will someone please kill Ramsey Snow and Lord Bolton! I just want to reach my hands through the TV and squeeze!

    Oh all these killing off of great characters i can't take it! I've come to believe Mr. Martin likes torturing his fans.

    I might not like Theon but omg its terrible whats been happening to him over these past two seasons,does it ever stop? I mean without him dying by Ramsey's hands?

    Loved Sansa,she is coming into her own,finally putting the pieces together and taking charge of herself,yay! I just hope she doesn't walk down the path of Cersei,fingers crossed!

    Oh Arya and The Hound! I wonder,will there come a day when she finally reaches her destination and the person is actually alive and not dead? Her laugh is infectious and i laughed right along with her,the irony of it all!

    I've come to enjoy Oberyn so much this season and I didn't think he would survive but i didn't think he would get killed due to his cockiness! The Viper almost had The Mountain...almost....

    And now i need to know how Tyrion gets out of his sentence? If he dies i might just give up watching GoT for awhile.... or maybe i'll just go outside, find some beetles and go gunk,gunk,gunk,gunk.

    Great episode and worth another rewatch before next Sunday!

    I also think they used it as a way to support other stories too, like there's an interesting juxtaposition with Greyworm and Theon, both being "changed" eunicks, which was furthered that Dany learned the truth behind Jorah's former betrayal, which ties back working on behalf the eunik of all euniks, Lord Varys!

    Part of me enjoys when the TV series explores aspects of the more background-like characters... and part of me always is annoyed thinking the time could be better spent on the more important story lines and characters.... I hate feeling conflicted! XD

    Ya! I didn't think Greyworm had it in him.,and Missanderi is definitely smitten with him. I started to see it within the last 2 eps.


    On one hand i was surprised that Y'Gritte let Sam's girl (forgot her name) and the baby live. The way she was slashing those other 2 girls i wasn't sure she would stop.


    And something MUST be done to stop Ramsey and Lord Bolton,sheesh,lol..

    I have to say I was expecting Tyrion to answer his own question after the bug story. I think it had to do with power, the same way Tyrion found relase in laughing at someone instead of being laughed at for once, his cousin felt powerful, the beatles were no match for him.

    I took it that way too.
    Sort of the Westerosi version of the "Circle of Screaming" where everyone exerts their power on someone less powerful.


    I also felt it could be a bit of a foreshadowing of war to come with Tyrion standing on the corpses. The beetles representing dead armored soldiers etc...

    Arya's reaction to Lysa's "passing" was like my reaction to Oberyn's death. I've read the books, so I knew it was coming, but I still could not help my disbelief. If anything, from the grotesqueness of the scene. It was so insane my only reaction was to laugh. Much like poor Arya. The girl just cannot believe how unlucky the Hound is and how every single member of her family keeps dying.

    Ya, I kind of argued with Lisa a little bit on one of her previous GOT reviews from one of the earlier episodes, that I detected that there was something between them and she thought I was nuts, because of the castration thing and I was like, well sex isn't the only way to show affection, but it's interesting that he seems to maybe have some magical phantom chemistry anyways!

    I kind of also thought that sometimes when people get under pressure, they call back to things that maybe they didn't think was that important, but bring it up out of fear--kind of like showing us he's about to loose his sh--! --Which could go with future events (like Darquemode said)


    It also is kind of relative to this mountain and red viper situation too, because one would think that Oberyn wouldn't have any kind of chance and so there's kind of like this idea that there is only so many times one can show their power, before the beetles rise up and change their tune, or something else comes along to change the power struggle (the donkey).


    I've always find myself pondering about GOT's ending and going back to the "Song of" aspect and thinking about the drowning sound of killing these beetles, if the idea is 'the song remains same'?

    Yeah, he is probably dead because of the poison on Viper's spear. I was hoping they would change the story, but Oberyn has to die in order for the events between Tyrion and Tywin to take place. Oh, the next to eps are going to be AWESOME!!!

    It is just another time, when Dany wants to deliver justice instead of mercy (there was such a subplot a few episodes before). So I feel that this time she will pay for that. And I haven't read the books yet, just making up theories :)

    I didn't actually know about the poison until i watched the inside the episode video which DarqueMode suggested to watch. He will die anyway which is good as Oberyn got his revenge, it may not be a quick death but at least he will die eventually.

    I forgot everything I wanted to say because of what happened with Oberyn. I knew what was coming but didn't expect that. I am glad they had him being as determined as he was in the books with getting a confession from that monster. He could've finished him a lot easier and it's a pity he had to die. Such an interesting and fascinating character. Too be honest I wouldn't mind so much if he'd survived (no chances are I would be ********* right not xD), would have loved to see more of him and learn more about his past exploits.

    Let's see what else I remember.. The whole thing about Sansa was very odd. Her revealing her true identity to lying with such ease it's very out of character. And the last scene of her. What was that? Sansa going dark is too soon.

    Arya's scene was very funny but unnecessary. I guess they will be headed back to the riverlands where their actual story-lines take place.

    As for Daenerys, this time I am not sure what I feel. Definitely some of her fans will be
    dissatisfied with her for sending Jorah away. Not sure myself if he deserved it. He did betray her but he was also genuinely loyal (though because he's in love with her). What I know is that it should have happened a lot earlier.     I'm just irritated that they hired Indira Varma, a top-notch actress - and then gave her about five lines in the whole season. They could have hired anyone to just hang around and look good. It's a waste of a fine actress (Disclosure: Yes, she's one of my favorites!)

    Indira Varma has a pattern of being killed off in the first season she appears on a series.... So far (and according to the books) she is still alive!


    Plus, some people theorize she will have a bigger role next year. Prince Oberyn's older brother Doran (who rules Dorne) has a daughter (Arianne Martell) who was absent from the casting list we saw earlier in the month. Some think Ellaria Sand will perhaps take on the book actions of Princess Arianne or one of the Sand Snakes. thus, expanding her role since in the books she has a very small role after the Red Viper'ss death.


    I love her in the role too so here's hoping! :)

    Yes! I like the character on the TV show better than in the books too. It feels like he's not as big of a jerk and there's quite a bit more humanity to him in both the way this version is written and the way PD plays him! Definitely one of my favorite characters!

    Sansa was awesome in this episode. I loved how she told the truth and then lied. And I loved LF´s expression when he heard her lie for him. Her new clothes was a symbol of the new Sansa. Can´t wait to see more.

    I usually like Ayra´s scenes, but I found this scene silly and they could have left it out.
    I love Jorah´s character and it is sad to see him leave Dany´s side. Go Grey Worm! :-)

    The Viper and The Mountain....man, was that amazing....and a bit creepy in the end. I don´t know weather to love or hate that little smirk on Cersei´s face.

    Jaime and Tyrion bonding and talking about their childhood was interesting. They lived together, but obviously lived two very differnet lives.

    *AGREED! During the entire fight I had high hopes that D&D would let Oberyn live! Now all I see when I close my eyes is poor Oberyn's screams! Was so sad, as he was CLEARLY the winner, but as they say: don't celebrate before the endzone! They have changed so many story lines..... but alas no (heavy sigh). I love(d) the Red Viper/Pascal! He and Tyrion would make great pals, both sharing the same hate/vengeance AND compassion.


    *After watching so much transpire around her, Sansa is becoming quite the Game Pro! She really played the council well.... she keeps this up, and she'll be a Force to Reckon with. Still very creeped out by Baelish.... he's such a Creeper! That look on Sansa's face when she waltzed down the stairs was as creepy as on of his. Yikes, what a role model! : O


    *Arya's laughter was priceless! I too couldn't stop laughing! It IS sad though, to know that ONCE again, she is so very close to family, yet so very far away.


    *I actually thought Theon 'er Reek ('er Theon) was going to break down.... he came so close and WHAAACK- Reek was back. Sad to say, but poor ol Theon has reaped what he sewed.


    *Ygritte's show of compassion to Gilly n Baby Sam - Thank Goodness!!!!! Was very concerned for their survival....


    *Ser Jorah...... oh the shame. I wondered if (n when) the truth of his initial dealings w Dany would surface. Jorah's squirming & Khaleesi's hurt.... Ouch Wonder where this will leave him?


    Someone PLEASE tell me they've decided at the last minute to have 12 episodes instead of just 10 !! I can not believe we've only got 2 eps left! Seems like this season just started!

    I really wanted them to change it and yet his death is pretty important going forward with the Dorne storyline but still my darling Prince I miss him already!


    Re Theon, god I know the Ramsay/Reek scenes are so hard to watch but Alfie Allen is so amazing in the role, so completely and utterly destroyed as Reek.


    I wish it was 12 eps but nope just 2 left!

    Both Alfie and Iwan are wonderful... I can't imagine playing torture scenes the way they do. Reek's expressions are truly heart wrenching.

    I think I'll like next season more than this season, especially since there we'll be a lot of 'sandy' exotic hot locations in general. I'm kind of glad they waited to do certain things, because I think it will go nicely with the Dorne stuff.

    I've heard it discussed for a while now and read a different article that I think used the same interview with his publisher. It is interesting now that she is speculating as well... maybe more wondering than speculating I guess.

    I've always suspected 3 woudl be the number honestly. Book I through Book III seemed to be the perfect first act to the saga, but Books IV & V were not quite a complete second act IMO. I think there are a few more pieces to Act II that will come in Book VI,The Winds of Winter

    That would leave only one book (maybe one and a half if we include some of TWOW) to wrap it all up in Act III and that just does not seem very plausible to me. I think it is more GRRM's speed to have 2 books (or 2.5 with TWOW) comprise the final act of the saga.

    Adding another book would end any discussion of whether or not the TV series will pass GRRM. Honestly I think he is going to be lapped as it is! XD



    Wait and see I guess....
    Wait a another year for the next book and then maybe we will have a better idea.....

    For me, this year was always the highlight of the books... or maybe it was the most action filled period of the books. So much going on and so many big events.


    The interesting thing about the upcoming seasons will be the accelerated pace of D&D should allow us to glean some insight into the future books. I think D&D will not strictly follow the books from this point onward, but some bits of information in the new for the screen scenes could be packed with spoilers...


    Just a year ago I may not have liked that, but I think I am coming around to enjoying the changes on screen.... for now. I still hope D&D create their own endgame that is different from GRRM's... At least different enough that we may know the endgame, but there will be enough changes to not completely spoiler the books.

    I have to confess that this struck me worse than anything that happened to the Stark's. I don't know why, perhaps because just vengeance was so important to the Viper and he never got it (or maybe he did, we still have to see about that poison). In any case, as I haven't read the books I must ask: will good guys ever win? Or is it the Lannister way all the way down to the end of the fifth book?

    This year I had much less excitement for the season because of exactly that fact. I realized it is almost a certainty that the TV series will pass up GRRM. I have even considered possibly not watching the later seasons of the TV series so I can read the books with a fresh perspective...


    My view has changed somewhat now though...
    Now, I hope that because the TV series is accelerated to fit 7-seasons total that D&D will have to make enough changes to the narrative that it changes the book's endgame. IF they need to cut, tweak, and re-imagine enough I think it's possible that there will be enough differences I can watch the TV series and still go into the books without being too spoilered.


    I guess if I'm honest I am just hoping I can experience both without ruining the books... and I'm trying deny, deny, deny the possibility of the TV series sticking close enough to the books to ruin things.

    I'm wondering about flashbacks too..


    I know at one point in the first season or two D&D said they would not use flashbacks, but things can always change. Casting Maggy the Frog certainly points toward a flashback...


    Of course they could just move her to the present day...


    The shifting of book events has really thrown me on one level...
    I wanted a definitive line between material from the first 5 books and material from the upcoming 2 (or 3) books. Now it seems like next year will be some of each already! :(


    I still am going to try to deny the brutal possibility of the show spoilering the books for me..... Let's hope!

    I was planning on it,
    The list that was leaked changed a few characters drastically from their book descriptions and possibly eliminated some roles I would have cast before the dozen or so names listed. I had to re-cast about half of my stuff I prepared last year! I think next year there will be so many changes I am having a hard time guessing which roles will be cast and what they will be looking for!

    Maybe I will put something together over the course of the weekend

    I feel the same way!
    I never really cared about Robb or Catelyn all that much honestly. I liked both characters, but I just did not really connect with them as much as I did with the Red Viper.


    Add in the show made Robb look like a moron with the whole Talisa affair, I was almost waiting for him to die! XD


    But Oberyn Martell was different...
    He was this amazingly worldly and lethal character that I whole-heartedly rooted for to get revenge. His goal always seemed more plausible to me then Robb getting his revenge... and in fact The Red Viper really did achieve his desire since The Mountain confessed to raping and murdering Elia Martell and her kids.

    Yeah, he confessed... and also the Viper stabbed him a few times and, well, they don't call him the Red Viper for nothing.


    I'm currently reading Feast for Crows, and I read the first Dorne chapter with the captain of the guard POV. I'm not sure I like where that's going. :D :D
