  1. One of my favorite deaths in the whole series. Perfect mix of craziness, cruelty, humor, stunning visuals, and political importance.

Great episode! Loved that Oberyin is Tiyrion's champion! That scene alone made the episode perfect, but to throw Sansa's aunt through the pit? Just brilliant!

  4. This has been one of my favorite seasons of this show. Each episode has got me excited for the next one and the acting has been top notch. Can't wait to watch the trial by combat.

  5. No "Only Cat"! I'm SAD. :(

  6. Outstanding ep that gave almost everyone something to set up.... really enjoyed the ep

  7. I know! WHY NO "ONLY CAT"?! I demand they redo it, lol. Jk... mostly. :p

  8. Apart from the "Only Cat" thing, that entire sequence was perfect. Was waiting to see it unfold for a long time.
Is it just me or have they decided to lump all the scenes a character has in an episode together this season. I remember a lot of jumping around in eariler seasons.

  9. Agreed.
I loved the scene apart from the omission of those two words.

    No I think you're right.
Most of the time they have done longer character segments. Some characters still get multiple scenes in an episode that are separated by other scenes, but I think they have greatly improved the overall flow and rhythm of the episodes.

  10. Regarding the Cat thing, D&D probably felt "your sister" will have more of an impact on non readers than "Only Cat" would have in case they didn't make the connection.

  11. I loved how Sansa's jealous Aunt bit it!

Well I'd say its safe to say that after this episode we can assume that it was indeed Emilia who was the actress who refused to do any further nudity. Good for her for wanting to be recognized for her acting ability instead of her body.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Lol, you can have both. And be recognized for both... never understood those critical of the nudity on GoT - other shows have a ton more and are still critically aclaimed.

  14. Well, there goes a character I won't miss. Loved little finger I'm hopeful he'llget out of this unharmed!
Can't help but feeling like Danny made a mistake on her treatment of Daario, I think it'll bite her on the ass a little bit, I and glad she did listen to Ser Jorah though.
Tyrion was heartbreaking, specially while listening to Oberyn's story.
Arya "The Litte Psycho" Stark is killing it lately.
This was an amazing episode, can't wait for next week.

  15. I keep reading about this missing line, as a non-reader (yet) I wonder what's the difference.

  16. Another excellent episode in a excellent season! Lets count the ways shall we (No Spoilers).
    1) Jaime truly loves his brother, Tyrion who suffers because his sister and father hate him.
    2) The "Hound" doesn't even have a corner to back into anymore and now he's experiencing a "Crisis of Conscience".
    3) Jonn Snow travel beyond the "Wall" (twice), survives (twice), only to return and find fools and bastards waiting for him.
    4) Bronn's scene/words were true and honest, but never the less sad.
    5) The scene with Dany and Jeor was good. The "Silver Queen" is learning.
    6) Arya is becoming a deadly means to "Stark Vengance"! The actress has been excellent this season.
    7) Brienne scenes are always enjoyable. More scenes are even better.
    8) The "Red Viper" vs. "The Mountain"..................NUFF SAID!
    9) So jealous crazy people can't grow wings and fly apparently!
    10) "Littlefinger" is one of the "Best TV Villains" this season. If you really like the actor then checkout the HBO series "The Wire".
I'd say damn for the two weeks we have to wait for the next episode, but it will be more than worth it!
4 THE IRON THRONE AND THE LAST TARGARYEN, I am Nobody!!!

  17. Yeah it seems to be only basement dwelling creeps who are upset that they can't see her naked anymore.

  18. Honestly, there is very little difference in reality...

Many of the books readers have latched onto certain lines of dialog in the novels.. Almost like Westeros memes in a way. "Only Cat" is one such expression.

Most of the time the changes mean very little in context, but this one bothers me a bit more than most. Littlefinger would always consider Catelyn before Lysa so saying "I have loved only one woman, I promise you. Only Cat" shows his obsession and how he places Cat above Lysa. Saying "Only your sister", just feels like something less meaningful to me.

Oh well, the scene was still great no matter which dialog was used!

  19. Yeah, I was happily surprised to see Hot Pie and his rambling on again.

Tyrion dungeon scenes keep getting better and better. After Tyrion heard who would be Cersei's champion, he could have put it together to ask for Oberyn as his champion though.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hasn't she had a nude scene after that article came out?

I always thought it was the actress who plays Shae, Sibel Kekilli. She is a former porn star and I assumed she said it because she was trying to be taken more seriously as a mainstream actress.

Oh well, not too important in the long run I guess.

  21. Loved the theme of this week's episode (well for the majority of the scenes) and that was siblings.

x The Hound speaks about his brother.

x Jaime and Tyrion share a moment and imagine messing up their father's plans

x Oberyn speaks about Cersei to Tyrion and her cruelty whilst remembering how he must find justice for his dead sister

x And of course Littlefinger kills Lysa because she is the wrong sister.

  22. Pretty good episode. For once I didn't like the scene at the wall. It was pointless and it seemed like a filler of a sort. I likes the scenes at Eyrie which were pretty well done, and I am particularly interested how LF will get out of this mess. In the books he used Marillion as a scape goat and Sansa went along with it but she didn't know about LF being behind pretty much everything that happened since the beginning.

The thing I liked the most were Tyrion's scenes, all of them. His attempts to negotiate with Bronn only to be turned down was interesting, and no one can blame Bronn for not wanting to go up against the Mountain. Though it was quite funny how futile Tyrion's effort were, more than he'll ever know.. And that is the only thing for which I am mad today. Screwing up a scene it's one thing, but what it does in the long run is a whole other. They should've included back in season 3 Robb's discussion with Cat and his decision to disinherit Sansa in order to keep Winterfell out of Lannister hands. The Kingdom has passed to another, not to mention that Tyrion even as smart and lovable as he is, he'll never be able to control/rule the North. Had to make a mention about this, since I have a personal stake in it for which I am firm believer of the GNC.

    I

  23. Some great moments, Arya trying to help the Hound with his wound, Lysa "flying," and best, Oberon volunteering to be Tyrion's champion for the Trial by Combat! Great episode!

  24. Small percent, hardly. Practically every other scene!

  25. Another great episode.

    - Brienne and Pod make a fun team, and it was good to see HotPie. ISn´t Brienne´s story a little far ahead compared to the books? Maybe it is me that remembers it wrong.

    - Arya and the Hound have great chemistry. Loved the talk about the Mountain and how he got scared of the fire.

    - Tyrion´s scenes were fantastic - once more. Good to see Jaime care for his brother, as the only one in the family. Sad to see Bron turn Tyrion down and Tyrion accepting it. And ofcourse the scene with Tyrion and oberyn will be remembered for years to come. Brilliant acting and awesome dialog.

    - I don´t think I have ever loved a scene with Sansa before.....but this was amazing. Littlefinger is such a unpredictiable character, love it.

    - The scene at the wall just seemed like a filler for what is coming next week.

    - Dany.....I´m just glad she has Jorah to set things straight.

Thank you for that,I was just about to say the same thing. While I actually prefer cable network shows because they include swearing, nudity & more graphic aka REAL scenes than main network shows, I also find that shows on HBO tend to have a great deal of unnecessary nudity. It also tends to be all women & for a show of such quality as GoT i find it distasteful that they feel the need to do for extra viewership. I am by no means a prude but I also don't think a pair of boobs on screen is always necessary.

  27. Christina Sherwood19 May 2014 at 16:35

She's no Peter Dinklage that's for sure, but I also wonder if that is more on the writer/director's end than her as an actress. I've noticed that all the women characters seem to be rigid/cold/hard & when they do have a chance to show emotion, its in the form of rage or a trembling few tears. That's not coincidental, it's a pattern. As for the nudity thing, I am pretty sure that if Emilia was still willing to get naked on camera then we would've seen a lot more than Dahrio's naked butt in that scene last night.

  28. Thought we were talking about sex scenes but I suppose that's semantics to an extent. Guess I don't focus on it but the sex scenes sure don't seem prevalent to me ESPECIALLY compared to other HBO/Sho/Starz shows. Sure hope there's a decent amount of nudity or a show of this setting/kind would feel very odd without it. Unless we have brothel scenes or LONG sex scenes in every other episode, I really don't get the sentiment.

  29. Point taken and I agree for the most part. But a lot of that is personal opinion. You can say a lot of the stuff is unnecessary but in the end it's all entertainment and the show either works/floats your boat or doesn't.

    ReplyDelete
  30. That's a good point but perhaps it was supposed emphasize her empowerment and the fact she has Dario under her spell. Daenerys is supposed to be very beautiful and charming seductress after all. Makes me wonder though, hadn't the predicted about those sort of things? Shouldn't there be contracts with specific clauses? I know for a fact that Tyrion was supposed to have a beard, but PD objected cause he thought it was too much of a stereotype, so I am presuming there may be other things they might have overlooked. Anyway, while it's not such a big deal and I would have respected her decision (if it is really true what we're talking about) if it was her will from the beginning, though I doubt she'd get the job having demands from the get go. But all of a sudden changing your mind for whatever reason, it's very hypocritical and shows complete disregard on her part about the show (the people responsible producers/devs), which is based on a book series that is by far much more hardcore, and the fans. At the end of the day while we're not loosing much (again if it is the case) her nude scenes were the only thing I and many others I'm guessing found interesting XD.. That was a bad joke I know, but I am trying to say anything that involves her most of the times is really boring.

  31. WOW!!! What a Awesome ep! So many wonderful scenes and even some : O moments!

    * Pod and Brienne .... "Yes m'Lady - No m'Lady" - "You were saying?" They have such fun interactions with each other. Their faces and eye rolling at Hot Pie's ramblings!..... His dire wolf's have come a Long Way!
*Ayra and The Hound.... I do believe they are both beginning to appreciate the other more and more. Ayra's expression at his Mountain story looked very similar to the Hound's as Ayra added him to her list.... The Hound helping Ayra add/remove someone from her list!
*Sadly Jon will prove them all wrong- a little too late. Was it me or did Othell (builder) want to agree with Jon, but didn't because of ol Jealous Bossy Pants Commander (can you say Jealous Much)?
*Glad to see Sansa taking the upper hand with Robin- that has been LONG overdue! Little F's confession, and creeeepy kiss. I am not a book reader Yet, but I saw Lysa's swan song coming the moment she saw said creepy kiss. I have NO love loss there....

And the best of the ep:

    Oberyn and Tyrion!!!!
I knew that I liked Oberyn.... the more I see and learn about him the more I like him! All though Tyrion is a Lannister - he is not a LANNISTER. Oberyn's story shows: He knows AND he understands just how much Tyrion's family has hated him his entire life. In this I see a kind of sympathy and maybe even a kind of kinship. Tyrion too finding out just how Long Cersi has had it in for him- his expression was heartbreaking. Oberyn is his Champion!!!!!!

ps: I Do Not Want To Wait TWO Weeks!!!!

From now on when I'm watching Orphan Black I'll see Cal in a whole new light!

I kinda figured as soon as the Mountain was named that Oberyn would find some way to exact his revenge.

As for Sansa... well her Aunt's death seems best for her right away, but the long run?

  34. If I've learned anything from this season about how they're tackling the books, it's that they're not bound to the order of events as they unfold on the pages. They're taking a more chronological approach to things, which is affording them a little more freedom. We're well into AFFC with Brienne, well into ADWD with Dany, and somewhere around the beginning of ADWD with Bran. While Arya's, Tyrion's, and Jon's stories are still squarely within ASOS.

I enjoy the Brienne/Pod scenes as I did in the books. One element I especially enjoyed from reading is Pod's confusion about what to call Brienne. He means no ill, but he's always unsure about what to say. "Milady....Ser", "Ser, Milday...." and so on. They gave it a nod when the characters first met.

    Things to ponder:

Tyrion appears to be helpless, but he's expressed he's not quite done yet. All the disappointment and hate from his family is weighing on him considerably. He even mentioned that were Jaime his champion and he lost, they could extinguish their family line in one encounter.

Dany hasn't found out about Jorah's involvement with King Robert has she?

I suspect the fallout from Lysa's death will be difficult to deal with but Sansa is learning a lot from Petyr. As creepy as he is towards her, I don't think he means her any harm. I can't quite explain exactly why I get that sense. Maybe she's just another piece for him to move around or maybe not.

  35. I don't "focus" on sex scenes unless they are shoved in my face, but I don't see the need for so much nudity and graphic, explicit sex. There are a lot of shows, including GoT, where I feel that it is gratuitous. I grew up in an era when less was actually more. Our imaginations are capable of filling in the blanks, so I find blatant, graphic sex scenes hardly necessary to get the idea. But audiences today are so jaded in their tastes that they seem to need more and more shown, and more and more kinky sex shown in order to get their fix.

Some of the best, and my favorite shows, actually, like Person of Interest, have very little, or no, sex scenes, and they are the most entertaining shows on TV today. And the classic films generally had very little in the way of "graphic" scenes. Innuendo did it all, conveyed the same messages, and left it all to the imagination without losing a thing. I'm not a prude, but I guess I'm just a little old-fashioned. I actually enjoy the witty dialogue and interesting worlds and stories of this show most. That's why I watch.

  36. So many good parts of this episode. I literally cheered when Sansa smacked Robyn...that kid is horrible.....and creepy. When Lysa was holding her over the moon door I was yelling at the tv "shift your weight Sansa. send her through the hole" (I've never read the books so I didn't know what was coming) When Littlefinger kissed her, I gagged a little. I've seen that coming since season 1, still wasn't ready to see that awkwardness go down
Arya has been one of my favorite characters since season 1. I love the little warrior she's turning out to be. I like that her and The Hound are becoming closer but I also don't see it ending well. That poor girl has been through it since her dad died.
Queen Khaleesi....love her and all her glory. after all the horrible traumatic sex we see on this show I was extremely disappointed that we didn't get more from that scene with her and Daarios but my imagination filled in the blanks quite nicely.
The Red Woman scene was slightly pointless to me. the only thing it did for me was 1) make me realize that she keeps explosives next to her bubble bath which I think is highly unsafe and 2) make me think that Stannis's wife wants a ride on the Red Woman's train....
Tyrion's cell scenes are getting better week to week. I like seeing him and Jamie together as brothers. BUT it was Prince Sexy Pants for the win this week. Prince Oberyn telling Tyrion the story of Cersei's cruelty even as a child was heart breaking. I can not wait to see Prince Sexy Pants take on The Mountain. He's waited a long time for this revenge.

LOL! The entire time I was thinking to myself, when did he get so hot, he wasn't this hot the last episode he was in. Then I realized that he was Cal & I had just watched him with Sara a few weeks before! I was like OHHHHHH that's why! :D

  38. Sooo true! I was a little put off when they cast a new Daario, but when I saw who he was, that he's playing Both roles, I found it much easier to like Daario - as I absolutely love Daddy Cal!
