Having already announced a batch of new hour-long shows for the fall, NBC remains silent on the fate of the long-running but low-rated Parenthood. Scuttlebutt at the network is that executives are in a tough negotiation, trying to get the actors and producers to take a pay cut. Even in victory, insiders say, the network would order at most 13 more episodes for a final season.

ReplyDeleteAfter Revolution's cancellation I don't think I could take this one as well. That said though I hope if they do accept the pay cut, it's not some outrageous one that's unfair for everyone.

ReplyDeleteHonestly, that seems like a better deal than I'd hoped they get. The show has gone for 5 seasons and this one has been weakest of all. Giving them a half-season to tie everything up seems like a gift. While I think the show has had many high moments, this last season didn't include any of them. The writing was a mess. Can't blame NBC for looking at it realistically. If they were putting out an awesome show week after week, fine, but it's really been subpar with the unrealistic Joel/Julia stuff, the Kristina and Adam opening a school business... they're close to running out of good writing meat (or at least that's how it appears) so I kind of doubt they could do more than 13 episodes anyway...
ReplyDeleteMakes sense. It does have quite the big cast. Hopefully they will agree to do it out of respect and passion for the show and help give it a proper end.
ReplyDeleteHowever, in my opinion this is one of the best shows on TV in this moment. How sad is its future depends on money....And I'm wondering all the time why the show has so low number of viewers.
