  1. Just sorting out some screen grabs to add to this too.

  2. So based on the synopsis I'm guessing #16-18 are earlier on in the ep when Athos takes Milady hostage in the square. Maybe he finds her sneaking around? Aramis and Porthos don't know what is going on but Milady appeals to d'Artagnan and his relationship with Milady comes tumbling out. Athos is not happy.

For some reasons d'Artagnan then has to go to Milady for help - and that bit I really don't understand. It is probably dubious how much he believes her and is taken in by her. (#1-3).

At some point he returns to the Musketeers, by which time Aramis and Porthos are up to speed. To what extent the challenge is a bluff I'm not sure. d'Artagnan has obviously got to come good in the end so I presume his fight with Athos (and that horrible promo photo) is a set up.

Quite how the motto gets worked in there though? And I don't think the coffin is anything to do with the main 4, or Treville. Maybe it is another Musketeer. I'm sure I've read that somewhere but I can't find it now. It is a very provocative image, I'm sure it has just been included to get people talking and it will end up be totally unimportant.

These are just my ideas and they are probably obvious but I find it easier to write it down and then work in any new spoilers.

  3. This is all really most confusing. A few thoughts to discuss:

Why is Athos out in the middle of the night with Milady without his uniform?

How do the pics of Athos threatening Milady line up with the promo pic of them fully dressed looking a bit more..."romantic"..?
Why does d'Artagnan seem so emotional regarding this? Either he has really been taken in by Milady, or there is much more going on in this episode! I would have thought that if he was taken in by her, there would be a more gradual progression towards that throughout the whole series.
The background for the scuffle in the street matches the background in the guns promo pics....=O
    Sarazin looks awesome.

  4. The only reasons that I can see d'Artagnan needing Milady's help is to pretend he is on her side and because of Constance. Milady asks if she can trust d'Artagnan in the promo...not sure of the timeline for the photos, but maybe by the time Athos threatens her, she already has Constance as leverage or d'Artagnan needs to "prove his loyalty" to her based on the musketeers' plan.

Not sure about the coffin, but I think the promo pic of the musketeers on horses in their capes must be at the end of the episode. Looks like a "happy ending" shot to me.

  5. My guess is the hostage thing is first too, maybe she sneaks into his at night, or he sees her out while drunk?

Then there is a confrontation, "I know what you did to you wife Athos" which takes place at the barracks I think? Is that where the shoot off happens, or is that then at a different location? I'm not sure.

I really hope that the coffin is a fake out too, hopefully on Milady :D lol

  6. Pertwee reminds me so much of his dad these days it's kind of freaky, that little dance on the spot his does in front of Milady especially so, lol. I think he's going to be fab in this, very excited by his casting :D

D'Artagnan does seem very emotional, it's a puzzler but I do trust that it will all make sense in the long run. I'm slightly concerned that Milady suspects a trick in photo 15, where she says something along the lines of "Can I trust you?" to him, which has me even more confident that there's twist and turns all over the place.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yes, the hostage thing is probably first...then she goes by his home to "thank him" hence pics 1-3 and 15? (It looks like those pics could come from the same visit anyway...maybe?? They are wearing the same clothes...) Then something happens to make d'Artagnan appear to be against Athos for the rest of the episode.

  8. The Athos/Milady/d'Artagnan bit needs to be done very well to me not just because it sets up the whole episode but because of the brotherly relationship...I just have a hard time grasping d'Artagnan turning on Athos so quickly for a dangerous woman he barely knows. Athos facial expressions in the promo are already killing me! So many feels...

I could buy d'Artagnan being emotionally conflicted on who to believe if Milady had developed more of a relationship with him over the series. She showed up and gave him a purse after being absent in his life for what...five episodes? Or is this the young, impetuous side of d'Artagnan that needs to honorably defend a lady? LOL.

  9. Apparently the overnights ratings for Musketeers fell again to 4.1 million, possibly because of the Mr Selfridge final. If ITV don't put on anything as popular next week at 9pm, the Musketeers final will hopefully attract a larger audience.

  10. It is confusing, the whole turning on Athos thing, I can't imagine what Milady tells him to make him seemingly hate him so in that barracks scene. It's as intriguing as that bloody coffin! lol

    ReplyDelete
  11. It's such a shame, it's not really too bad once you add the consolidated figures on, it does better than most dramas do. But it could do so much better if scheduled right :(

    ReplyDelete
  12. In the barracks scene, it does seem as though Aramis and Porthos already know the score with Milady (calling her by different names, and asking d'Artagnan kinda snarkily how she is as though it's clear that he's been with her).

Also, Athos already confessed to d'Artagnan in Commodities exactly what he did to his wife, so... why would d'Artagnan be all accusatory about it now? He knows what happened, and he knows why Athos did it, he just hasn't known previously that it was Milady.

Finally, I still think there will be fakes outs, etc. But while staging a fake-out in public makes sense. Staging a fake-out fight at the garrison doesn't really. So I think at some point there will be a real division between d'Artagnan and the others, and then d'Artagnan will clue in and come back to work with the them.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thanks for these!

  14. Yeah, a fake out at the barracks doesn't seem right to me either. I'm pretty sure the shoot off photos are in a market place rather than the barracks, so I'm hoping that things are sorted out between them by then, lol. Though, we have seen people survive close up pistol shootings before (Flea).

  15. No worries, sometimes it's easier to see what's going on with grabs I think, the action moves so fast in the trailer that it can be confusing working out the timeline.

    ReplyDelete
  16. A fake-out at the garrison makes sense cause Milady is here too (see promo pic where is watching). So she doesn't know that Athos already told d'Artagnan about her, she might believe that only HER gave him her side of the story (probably during the scene where she tries to turn him and he says 'have you kill somebody yet". So d'Artagnan (who already planned the staging with the other 3) come barging in at the garrison with Milady, confronts Athos, duel, fake shooting him, Athos fakes dying (hence the fake musketeer coffin). And then he goes rescue Constance while the other go get Milady. In the end, they're all reunited (pic with the horses) and tells her she's been played, and the 'all for one, one for all'.

    ReplyDelete
  17. It really is a tangled webb this one. I think you're on the right track Sunny. Much of what we'll see between D'Artagnan and Athos will be elaborate staging designed to draw out Milady and convince her that she has D'Artagnan under her control. In the scene where she says to D'Artagnan "I need to know I can trust you," she is definitely holding something to the back of his head. I agree that Milady probably gets Sarazin to grab up Constance as collateral against a double-cross which is something D'Artagnan and possibly Athos, if they're conspiring with each other to topple her and the Cardinal, didn't bargain on. He may have no choice but to try to convince Milady he'll keep her alive at all costs, in order to save the life of the woman he loves.

I also think that the image of D'Artagnan rushing towards Athos in the square and the sound of the gun shot in the promo, are from two different scenes. The gun shot will be from a daylight scene in which the two seem to be facing off, as in a duel. This I would guess, will be the moment that Athos' death is staged and Milady appears to get what she wanted. Except, there's a wider agenda at play and with the news that she's captured Constance, a whole new battle will begin.

  18. Yes....where does that pic of them all in the woods with horses fit into this??

I wondered if that was Milady watching them in the promo pic. Can't really tell. If that is her watching, it makes much more sense!

    ReplyDelete
  19. at the end, after they confronted her and reveal Athos is alive. They all stand united on their horses. All for one, one for all. the end.

As for Milady, she's watching them at the garrison when they duel, it's the same setting as the d'Artagnan and Athos pics while they're about to shoot at each other.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Ahh yes, I had assumed that was at the market rather than at the barracks, but I guess it could be there.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well, there is a video of Athos and Milady talking to each other in the woods...then d'Artagnan, Porthos, and Aramis coming charging in on horses. Without capes. Not sure when this takes place.

But yes...I think the caped picture would be an awesome way to reveal to Milady that she lost and they are all united as musketeers!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Agreed, especially if this means that Milady lives to fight another day too, lol :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Was that the 'behind the scenes' footage on BBC Breakfast in January? D'artagnan jumps off his horse and takes Milady's hand, if I remember correctly.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah, I could be wrong, but that didn't look like it took place in the garrison to me.

  25. This is what I saw..

  26. garrison or market, Milady is watching them (see her on the right of this pic). So to me, all this scene is a stage designed to lure her.

  27. Do you have a link for the video? I haven't seen that one yet but it sounds good.

  28. I think achan8269 has got it down. The drunken moment in the square will be staged to ingratiate D'Artagnan with Milady. He has to appear emotional to seem convincing. He'll then return to Milady's place and spend the night there. When he returns to the Garrison the other Musketeers will be less than amused, whether they're fully aware of the plan at that point I'm not sure. A faux fight will ensue with Athos during which D'Artagnan will strike Athos, challenging him to a duel. The duel will be entirely staged and will result in Athos' fake death and staged funeral. Milady will then move on to phase two of her mission to kill the rest of the Musketeers, not realising that she's getting caught in their net. She'll have recruited Sarazin to grab Constance as bait and collateral, leading to a confrontation and to D'Artagnan and Constance being finally and emotionally reunited. Milady will flee, possibly having done away with the Cardinal and there'll be a final moment in the woods when the team come face to face with her. They certainly look united and defiant in the image of the four of them on horseback.

  29. Milady is definitely holding a small pistol to D'Artagnan's head in the pic where she is in the back of him. Hmmm. I think he'll reject her advances. So she'll pull out a small weapon?

And as others have said, I think the musketeers will come up with a clever plan to trick Milady. :)

  30. Is that Elementary's Lestrade in the sneak peek? Nice hair! Ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Thanks for pointing out which one it was. I wasn't certain. Good eye: that's totally Milady. This does look like the market to me, not the garrison. I'm pretty sure they'll be staging a fight at some point, whether here or somewhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yeah, Sean Pertwee is the baddie in this episode :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. The Radio Times are quite positive this week in their preview, saying there are "genuinely sad moments".

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah, it does look like it's all going to be staged for her doesn't it. I'm pretty sure that the gun pointing promo photos are in the market place too so it looks like this is part of that scene?

    ReplyDelete
  35. That's... ominous. And nice of them.

  36. I've just received the episode so I'm steeling myself as it's buffering through. Jessica Pope has said that four things from this list of 6 will be seen in the finale https://twitter.com/MusketeersFans/status/448148408302194688/photo/1

  37. I bet you'll be chewing your nails right down, in order to get to Sunday without saying anything too spoilery....

  38. 10 mins in and just :O lol

  39. Can't wait to read your review Sandi!! I'm still deciding what can be the 'other two'... Tréville lives can be one, and Richilieu epic farewell?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Just finished, on the whole it's an even better finale than I hoped for, it runs at 55 minutes too so they got an extension to fit it all in which is cool. Unfortunately I am now out for a bit so the preview won't be until this evening, sorry guys.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Good to hear that's even better than you expected!! I can't wait for sunday! All I hope is that Capaldi departure is handle well and the all Athos/Milady/d'Artagnan/Constance drama as well.

  42. Oh how you tease us!

  43. They're not entirely wrong in their comments about the tone of some of the earlier episodes but sometimes I've thought their reviews have been harsh. It's had more highs than lows overall and the latter half of the series has been hugely entertaining. I also think that the BBC demonstrated it's lousy commercial sense with it's poor on air promotion of the series. They were late to promote it in the first place and did little to boost it once it aired.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Definitely encouraging that you found it better than you'd hoped for. It's a very weird sensation to find myself looking forward to the END of the weekend! Lol.
