Wednesday 2/26/14 Metered Market Ratings
Consistent Return for “Survivor” on CBS; “Mixology” DOA on ABC
Household
Rating/Share
Fox 7.2/11
CBS 6.0/10
NBC 4.5/ 7
ABC 4.3/ 7
CW 1.6/ 3
-Percent Change from Year-Ago Evening – Wednesday 2/27/13:
NBC: +18, CBS: – 9, ABC: -12, Fox: -17, CW: -20
———-
-Winners:
“Survivor” (CBS), “Arrow” (CW), “Modern Family” (ABC), “Criminal Minds” (CBS)
-Down But Still Dominant:
“American Idol” (Fox)
-Honorable Mention:
“Law & Order: SVU” (NBC), “Chicago PD” (NBC)
-Losers:
“Revolution” (NBC), “Mixology” (ABC), “The Tomorrow People” (CW), “Nashville” (ABC)
———-
-Ratings Breakdown:
Two-hours of “American Idol” led Fox to midweek overnight victory. But a 7.2 rating/11 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. was 17 percent below the 8.7/14 on the year-ago evening, which at this point should be no surprise to anyone.
In series-premiere news, ABC sitcom “Mixology” finished fourth in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour with a disappointing 3.6/ 6 in the overnights. Comparably, retention out of lead-in “Modern Family” (#2: 6.5/10 at 9 p.m.) was only 55 percent, and this was 35 percent below the debut of former time period occupant “Super Fun Night” (5.5/ 9 out of an 8.0/13 for “Modern Family” on 10/02/13). Since most new series drop 10 to 20 percent in week two, consider these initial results for “Mixology” DOA.
Sophomore “Nashville” on ABC followed “Mixology” with a distant third-place 3.3/ 6 at 10 p.m., which was 15 percent below the 3.9/ 7 on the year-ago evening. Unfortunately, “Suburgatory” is no better than year-ago occupant “The Neighbors.”
Earlier in the night on the alphabet net was always reliable “The Middle” at a third-place 5.1/ 8 at 8 p.m., followed by recent returnee “Suburgatory” at a disappointing 3.9/ 6 at 8:30 p.m.
In season-premiere news, two-hours (and two episodes) of “Survivor” on CBS, themed “Brawn vs. Brains vs. Beauty” scored a 5.7/ 9 from 8-10 p.m., which was four percent above the opening overnight levels for year-ago edition “Caramoan – Fans vs. Favorites” (5.3/ 9 on 2/13/13). Only three-tenths of a rating point separated the four half-hours as follows: 5.9/10 – 5.7/ 9 – 5.7/ 9 – 5.6/ 9.
CBS capped off the night with a 10 p.m. edition of “Criminal Minds” at a dominant 6.5/11.
Over at NBC, sophomore “Revolution” was below average at a distant fourth-place 3.2/ 5 in the overnights at 8 p.m., which does not bode well for a second season renewal. But veteran “Law & Order: SVU” perked up to a 5.3/ 8 (#4) at 9 p.m., which was up by 23 percent from its last telecast on Feb. 5 (4.3/ 6). And episode six of lead-out “Chicago PD” remained a compatible fit at a second-place 4.9/ 8 at 10 p.m., which was a 20 percent gain from its last episode (4.1/ 7 on Feb. 5). Comparably, this was the second highest rated installment of “Chicago PD.
The CW capped off primetime with solid “Arrow” at a 2.1/ 3 in the 8 p.m. hour, followed by questionable “The Tomorrow People” at a 1.2/ 2 at 9 p.m.

Mixology DOA. Wow, this just keeps geting worse for ABC! Why do they even bother?
ReplyDelete"Over at NBC, sophomore “Revolution” was below average at a distant
fourth-place 3.2/ 5 in the overnights at 8 p.m., which does not bode
well for a second season renewal."
A sophomore to get a second season renewal? Seems kind of odd, Berman!
glad for Arrow & MF, sad for Mixology. it was s solid premier I really liked how it played out.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about Mixology. I think the show is funny. Hopefully buzz will pick up and more people will watch on demand or on dvr.
ReplyDeleteMost ABC comedies seem to be aimed at some audience which has repeatedly shown ABC they are not interested.
ReplyDeleteOver at NBC, sophomore “Revolution” was below average at a distant fourth-place 3.2/ 5 in the overnights at 8 p.m., which does not bode well for a second season renewal?
ReplyDeleteBerman really needs to learn to check his posts before posting them!
Mixology bombed badly.
ReplyDeleteWorried about Revolution. If it gets a 1.3 in the demos it still has a chance (albeit small chance), but if it dips further... well, there was one week when Revolution climbed up from 1.3 to 1.5, so I'm hoping next week it will do better, but it is still pretty worriesome the early households numbers it got :/
ReplyDeleteyeah and SFN is very young skewing compared to its low total viewers so demo difference could be even more
ReplyDeleteits kind of odd all my favourite comedies on ABC aired in the wednesday 9:30 slot and arent that successful
ReplyDeleteWas just going to say that. It's already in its second season Marc!
ReplyDeleteMan, ABC is having a rough season. Can we call this the Happy Endings curse?
ReplyDeleteThe Clock King on Arrow brought back childhood memories of "Batman: the animated series" Hope Caity Lotz becomes a series regular.
ReplyDeleteTake my survey on whether Revolution or Parenthood should be renewed. Revolution's series low ratings aren't looking good for a season 3 but it does high DVR ratings. Parenthood has been down dramatically due to a new timeslot but its 18-34 ratings are better than Revolution. I hope NBC can renew both.

Bummed about Mixology. Wonder if it had anything to do with the episode being released online.
ReplyDeleteGO ARROW AND SURVIVOR! I really hope both get great ratings!
ReplyDeleteWhy are "early ratings" always adjusted down?
ReplyDeleteBecause these are household ratings and not the demo.
ReplyDeleteYeah I've heard that the # of viewers are not what really counts, its the demos that do. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis whole ABC 9:30 curse all started in 2012. ABC should've just kept that show Don't Trust The B---- in Apt 23 right where it was. Suburgatory had a great first season on Wednesdays between The Middle and Modern Family and it was strong enough that ABC could've moved it to Tuesdays at 8 in 2012 so it could lead a night and help other shows. ABC better hope Resurrection is a success out of the gate.
ReplyDeleteSVU rose a million viewers in the second half-hour! And PD beats SVU and does better than Fire, that's interesting. Criminal Minds seems perfectly capable of being a 10 pm show. And at least The Tomorrow People rose somewhat in audience. Now let's get that demo up! And have the entire audience move along to Mondays.
ReplyDeleteYay CPD so happy they really deserve it!
ReplyDeleteGo Chicago PD. Awesome episode. Loved the crossover with SVU. Loved it. Really hope for a season 2.
ReplyDeleteOhNo new series low for Nashville!I don't like how the total viewers are either.Hopefully,it can rebound like it did last spring.
ReplyDeletewas the competition so much tougher last night or why did Arrow drop ?
ReplyDeleteI hope you're aware Survivor's latest season premiered yesterday. A competition that Arrow didn't have since late December, and is added to the reality competition that Arrow already has in this tough timeslot from American Idol..
ReplyDeleteCAITY CANARY! Make her a series regular already, jeez! Or give her and Syn a spin-off series! Just don't kill her...
ReplyDeleteAs a part-time Katie hater and a full-time Caity lover (yes that just happened:), even I felt bad for her in this ep. Kinda liked her in it as well. But Lotz is my Canary all the way.
alright, that could be it, thanks :)
ReplyDeleteActually Revolution is UP from it's last episode--it was 1.2 in the demo. So I don't get Berman saying this is bad. Not fantastic--but it certainly isn't bad. Revolution is still ALIVE.
ReplyDeleteYep, series low I believe for Revolution :(
ReplyDeleteYep my bad--last episode was a 1.3 also--so it ties low in demo ...it stayed flat, it didn't go down.
ReplyDeleteLets hope for a rise next week.
This is the closest I've ever seen American Idol and Survivor together. They actually tied in the 9:30 pm half hour in demo. Wasn't Modern Family and Idol pulling 5.0's in spring 2012? It's weird seeing how much they've fallen and it's also weird seeing Idol (which people used to call "death star") get beat by a 4 year old comedy that hit a season low of 3.1. What happened to Arrow, Revolution and Nashville? Good lord. I thought with Horror Story gone Nashville will go up.
ReplyDeletei have a question... is 1.8 bad for Mixology i mean having MF as lead in and get a 1.8 is bad but overall is that really bad¿?
ReplyDeleteArrow is steady with ratings of the season... TTP still doing 0.5 lets see how it does when it gets to mondays
Dang hoping for 1.4 or 1.5 for Revolution but going up againist Survivor and Idol not horrible hopefully it will tick up next week!
ReplyDeleteI would call it more 'on life support' than alive. Since a renewal this season would be essentially for 2 seasons, and we still haven't gotten to the normal DST drops for all shows, I just can't see a renewal happening at this point.
ReplyDeleteI will never ever forgive ABC for messing up Happy Endings in favor of Mixology, which was stupid. Even a terrible episode of TBBT was way better than this trash. If Mixology gets renewed, Paul Lee needs to get fired. There is one thing he has done right: he advertises Grey's and Scandal well.
ReplyDeleteUgh,Revolution...could it get any worse?
ReplyDeleteI hope TTP can hold it at mondays, so fandom follows them. I love this show and it's getting better and better every week.
ReplyDeleteI'd give it a 40% chance and depending on how rest of season goes.
