I definitely agree Sarah is irritating! I thought it was just me that thought that! However, this was still an excellent episode and an EPIC ENDING!!!!!
Excuse me!!!!!!!!! Laurel had every right to be pissed at Sara and Oliver, i'm glad she's making some changes and getting healthy again! I'm also glad Felicity was pro active and managed to beat her nemesis. Not crazy about Oliver calling her "his girl". Felt stupid. The ending was epic! CAN'T. WAIT.
a Mary Sue is generally a character protected by the plot (everybody, even those that dislike her, bending over backwards to save her), capable of doing anything (Sarah being the ultimate uber warrior and turns out is sssuuupppeeeerrr smart) and is morally right...everytime.
The only thing I like about Sarah is um... Hang on it'll come to me. Uh, I like... Nope, I don't like Sarah. Wish Felicity and Roy had more airtime. And Diggle too.
That's just what I was thinking ... as anxious as I had been for this episode (which by the way they promoted as a Felicity episode and it turned out to be a Sara one, that they're in a fair way to having ruined Sara because it was so over done.
By the time Laurel was telling Sara off, I was completely on Team Laurel.
As for Oliver, he just turned into a complete douche, telling Felicity that she'll always be his girl and then going up and kissing Sara.
Agreed, Laurel was completely right to be pissed off at Sara and Oliver. First time I ever found myself rooting for her. Oliver was a patronizing douche for calling Felicity "my girl".
I'm so glad the Lance sisters finally reconciled! That was a heartbreaking scene and amazing acting by both Katie and Caity. They definitely redeemed Laurel for me.
Gotta admit, even though I ship Olicity, that "You'll always be my girl" line was soooo cheesy.
Robert Knepper was absolutely fantastic as The Clock King and I hope he returns. Felicity has a nemesis!
And WOAAAAHHH at the final scene! I have been avoiding all promotional photos these past few weeks so seeing Slade show up at the Queen mansion definitely made my jaw drop! The wait till next week is going to be killer!
yeah, Sara seems to be a great addition and plenty to offer to the show. These Olicity fans should cool down since they appear as the most insane part of the fandom and are becoming an irritant which may at least cloud how I feel about Felecity as a character
I would be perfectly fine with Felicity if not for that goddamned cult. Worse of all are the morons who would write off an entire episode just because it didn't have enough Oliver/Felicity "moments". Gag.
you all know that my thoughts on latter episodes don't tend to be positive...why ? The show is focusing away from the heroic actions and is focusing more and more on the drama, the romance and the fanservice. One would assume a show about a hooded hero would be about him fighting criminals first, leading his life second but nope. We get a party to welcome back Sara, a Sara welcoming dinner with the family, Sara bonding with Sin, Sara looking over a fire in a flashback, Sara showing everyone who's boss in the Arrow cave, not even 5 minutes of the villain and 20 seconds of a cliffhanger to make people like me watch.
The show revealed Slade to be back way back in episode 9. Wich to some doesen't sound much as it's 'just' been 5 episodes. But with two hiati....hiatuses....hiatuseses...whatever between that the wait has been made excruciatingly long. Now, finally we have Slade revealed to Oliver, something one would call story progression. Yes, 20 seconds of it. Like every (pretty much the last 8 episodes now) episode before.
In fact the Clock King felt redundant this episode, he wasn't needed. The villain of the episode felt like a nuisance simply because the relationships and forced drama had such a focus. Why ? Why add characters like Sin, Roy and Thea to the mix that brought absolutely NOTHING to the storyline but eating up time ? Wait...what storyline actually ? What was this episodes actual storyline ? 'Sara is back and everybody is up in arms but Laurel, oh and there's some bad guy to fight'.
80% drama/romance 15% filler villain 5% main arc.
this is what it has come to
Sara as a character is also...incredibly flawed. Or not flawed...because there is absolutely nothing wrong with her. She knows everything better than other characters (that are specialists in their field), does everything better than others and is morally completely right at everything. While others that are pissed because their lives were made harder by choices others made are morally wrong of course.
Sara is the kind of character I don't want to have on my show, a character the writer seems to fall in love with and a character the writer seems to push, push so far until the 'badassness' a character has turns sour.
Not to mention that Caity Lotz is far from a capable actress.
Generally I'm the first one to call 'FILLER VILLAIN THIS SUCKS' but in this case even the filler bad guy felt like he was butchered...
Am I drawing the line here ? Nope, because this wonderful cliffhanger got me excited again.
Was the cliffanger great ? Yeah, Manu Bennett is awesome. Did the rest suck ? Ohhhh yes it did.
'Heir to the Demon' was a sep forward with fast storytelling and great fightscenes with little to no romantic/dramatic focus. This wasn't just two steps back, this was the show turning around, running around the globe and then making twenty further steps back
I'll take the downvotes like a man but be warned, down is where this show seems to be headed
The thing is i loved Felicity last year and i think its the fandom of her that has made me close to hating her especially when they have to put down Laurel or Sara to put her up on a pedestal
not that I would like Felicity but you seem to be leading your own Sara cult. Hypocrisy is a dish best served micro-waved. Because you wouldn't want to shove it into the oven
obviously your favourite character deserves your support but one should not shoot down valid criticism in case it is there.
I care about neither Sara or Felicity, but in this situation Sara felt completely like a overpowered character a writer usually uses to insert himself.
A character has flaws to be made interesting, Sara has none. Neither did Felicity but unlike Felicity Sara is uber powered with physical strength and mental capability. Felicity bored me in season 1, Sara annoys me with this writing to no end,
If anyone wants soapy romance they should move to some teeny romance drama. Sara makes the show a lot richer and this irrational hate for a character just because precious Felecity feels insecure is not called for
eventually what happens because of shipping, the sad fate of shows that decide to focus on the wrong way of storytelling. Writing in romance for shippers is like a drug: once inserted into a shows system it is both needed by a part of the 'body' but on the other hand causes massive internal fights
Epic episode !Lot's of action ! I like that someone outsmarted Felicity, I loved it !! Felicity is sooo cute I wanna hug her ! Especially under medication lol ! I like Sara too, although the only thing that annoys me a little is that she's seems to be too good at too many things - "kind of annoying" ! Also It's really laughable when detective Lance doesn't even recognize his OWN daughter !! really !? I would recognize even a long lost friend from a mile away with a mask on, even the voice he should pick up on ! And same thing goes for Oliver, you can basically see his entire face under the hood ! Can't wait for next week !
There was a lot I liked about Sara in previous episodes, especially her vulnerability, but the writing in this episode was just so Sara! Sara! Sara! (Brady Bunch reference) that it turned me off her.
Great episode. Although I don't hate Sara as much as some people who have commented, she isn't my favorite. The feelings Felicity had with her place on the team were well done and I'm glad she got a scar of her own and got to take down the bad guy. More Felicity in the field! And while I am a fan of Oliver/Felicity, I wouldn't mind if they don't try to shoehorn it into everything in every episode.
Also enjoyed the backstory on Sara and Sin, poor Sin not having her parents, but at least she's got Sara. The fight between Oliver and Laurel was well done too. Laurel had the right to be angry before, but she was just using that as an excuse and just kept blaming everyone for her own problems. Glad to see we've likely gotten past that.
Then the ending. Finally! Next week looks freaking great!
a former introduction to other characters works without shoving a character in the viewers face, it also works without showing the character off as your universes version of He-Man (or in this aspect She-Ra).
Comes down to preferences I guess.
I for one like my characters to have some depth and flaws, but if you're fine with someone that is perfect at everything and is beloved by everyone I won't stop you from anything.
It wasn't needed for the storytelling tough, that is just major justifying bs
from what i hear, there is a teeny romance drama 24 hours after arrow starts to air. has hot shirtless vampires every episode. i suggest people looking for romance and love triangles go there.
I always thought a mary sue was an author projecting themselves on a character - I was told that definition a couple years back. Didn't realize it wasn't quite true.
wow I'm surprised people actually think Olicity is forced… but then again I am an olicity shipper so I guess my opinion would be biased but I always shipped Olicity ONLY because of Stephen's and Emily's awesome chemistry (which they were almost nominated for at the people's choice awards). I never got the feeling like it was forced UNTIL this episode. Not gonna lie, I wasn't a fan of the "you'll always be my girl" scene AT ALL and i'm a HUGE olicity fan :/
I I didn't like the episode. Epic ending though. Can't wait for next episode. Give me some Slade. I was sceptical about this episode because of the spoiler and all the speculations we did the past 3 weeks. But it ok. Knepper was wonderful as Felicity's nemesis. .Felicity's insecurity was tackled very well. Did they cut scenes. Where was that photo where Felicity standing in front of motorcycle and Sara running towards something.?? I still think this insecurity thing was unnecessary and am glad it was over.
I liked the ease between Oliver and Sara. Still don't like their relationship. I can't get over their history. I still like Sara and BC with GA on the field is the best thing ever. But she is slowly loosing the cool factor for me. That party was so not needed and didn't make any sense Sara accepting Oliver throwing a party. Sara inviting Oliver for dinner was stupid and Oliver going along was annoying. Sara being able to analyse blood without completing a college education was unbelievable as hell. I am still not sold on Caity Lotz. Loved her last scene with Laurel.
Oliver and Laurel scene in the Hall. Wonderful. Go Katie and Stephen. SA was wonderful. Still wouldn't say it was emmy worthy. Laurel turning her life around was so good to see. I am rooting for her now.
What are they doing to Roy? He was introduced to the team and thats it. Nothing more. Next episode is island centric and after that SS. When are they going to show Roy. They could have avoided that awful party and added Roy in this episode.
I have to agree with lot of your points here. I really disliked this episode. Didn't like Felicity's insecurity. Didn't like the party, didn't like the dinner, especially didn't like the blood analysis part. I don't like Roy much but he was dropped like a hot potato as soon as he was introduced to the team. Knepper was wonderful. But did we see anything more of him than what was shown in the promos. Nothing. Just one killing of a thug.
Island scenes were meh.. The only thing I really liked was Oliver Laurel scene and the last 20 seconds.
You know I like you right. We have had some good conversations. But you are no better than the so called cult that follows Felicity or Olicity. You belong to Sara cult. Anyone so much as say one word against Sara you will reply back by insulting Felicity or Olicity. And you judge them for their choices even if they don't mention or try to to build up their favorites.
Every one is entitled to have an opinion. Just because that opinion has lot of followers doesn't make it wrong or bad. Its just a preference.
Its not just Olicity fans or Felicity fans who put down Laurel. Its the whole Arrow fandom that put down Laurel. Its the only thing that most of the Arrow fandom agrees on. Their dislike for Laurel. You have been complaining about Felicity and bragging about Sara in almost all of your posts. Its your right to do so. Doesn't make you any different.
I'm trying to figure out whether they did it on purpose, make Oliver's relationship with Sara untenable so that it crashes and burns relatively soon, or whether it's just really bad writing.
For the first time since she appeared, I'm looking to see when she'll be gone, if she ever is.
I didn't think Oliver was patronizing in the my girl comment. He was just replying to what Felicity said. They could have written some other good dialogue but I didn't mind it.
This ep made me like Sara more and Felicity less, i mean Sara treats Felicity with respect and concern and how does Felicity react she gets all snarky with her
I got a bit more aggressive on the topic when after last ep a bunch of Olicity fans went on a verbal assault on Caitys twitter and Facebook page the stuff their was just so obnoxious and uncalled for so yeah call me what you want but you won't see me going on Emilys page and showing the same immaturity
I liked this episode. It was good to have Arrow back after a too long hiatus.
I liked how they handled Felicity's insecurity in this episode and seeing the four of them working together as a team on the Arrow cave. It was good to finally see more of Diggle in this episode. I liked the Lance family dinner scene and I actually liked Laurel and KC's acting in this episode.
I hope Knepper returns in the future as Felicity's nemesis. His sister could die and then he would blame Felicity for her death.
The ending was great and I'm glad Oliver finally knows about Slade. I can't wait to find out what happens next!
See they did it on Caity's twitter and Facebook page. Not in spoiler tv board. Those people might not be visiting Spoiler tv at all. Please don't judge every one because some people are idiots. I come here to discuss stuff because Arrow fandom here at Spoiler tv is the most mature people I have found in the internet. Some people like felicity, some people like Sara some people like Olicity, some don't. Before this episode not much personal attacks were there. Every one used to say their piece. Some agreed. some didn't.
Now just two posts down its already a war. I liked coming to spoiler tv. If this continues I will have to stay away.
I liked it...I was worried about this one, but there were a lot of nice scenes for Felicity and Sara. The only downside: Now Roy is pretty much side-lined.
There are other places where you can learn stuff than just the college. I wouldn't call it a filler episode...I bitched a lot about the pacing of the show since it is back, but this time around, everything served a purpose. You need some character building eps from time to time, and Sara becoming part of the team certainly deserved an episode of its own...I just wish that they had added Roy to the rooster earlier and given him a "adjusting to the team" episode, too, instead of dragging that out forever and then basically forgetting about it because of Sara. I'm cautiously optimistic concerning Laurel....I nevertheless hope that Oliver meant what he said and that he is truly done with her now.
I absolutely love your post. It's short, yet detailed and sweet. My god, everyone's post on this thread seems to be so negative. I just kept thinking couldn't anyone just be at least relieved that the show is back from hiatus instead of hate from all sides?? Heavy sigh. Anyways, thank you. This was refreshing. : )
Cautiously optimistic is the perfect word to describe Laurel situation. I still don't know where they are taking her. She still seems to be floating kind of alone.
I don't know this episode didn't sit well with me. Oliver throwing the party, going to the dinner every thing felt contrived to me.
This episode kind of ruined my dream of Laurel turning evil. She is on the mend now, so she is going to be still in this limbo. Oliver is done with her now. But what happens when he knows about Brother Blood being Sebastian? SA was amazing in that scene when he was cutting cords with Laurel. When he walked back he rubbed his eyes. It was wonderful.
Loved every second of this episode. Great group dynamic in the cave, like where they are going nice handling of the reletionships: Oliver/Laurel Oliver/Felcity Felicity/Sara Felicity/Diggle Sara/Lauren Oliver/Quentin Sara/Sin Quentin/Laurel and so on.It is also nice to see Oliver in a healthy relationship, as long as Felicity is always his Girl. Actually she is everybodys girl on that team, since she also wants to make sure everybody has a good work-lie-balance. Ok Thea, Roy and Moira have come a bit short, but I am counting (and hoping for Thea) on them in future episodes. Great slide down the stairs and wow what an epic ending! Loved how Oliver finds out, that Slades still alive.
You're awesome. The Oliver/Quentin scene i thought was great and so funny with the ending of the awkward moment. And that slide down the stairs seriously had to be my favorite scene. Okay, second favorite. Haha I don't need to say my first, it's implied. ; )
Ya know I did mean to say Gentlemen instead of gentleman, but I forgot, then got too lazy to care. Lol Everyone knows what I meant, so I'm going to just leave it. Shrugs. Glad you enjoyed the episode as well. = ) Next week looks exciting. Can't wait.
The episode was okay. I liked only 2 scenes: the ending and the talk betwenn Laurel and Oliver. Sarah annoys me. I hope she will be gone by the end of the season. And I'm not Olicity shipper.
Thanks ;), it's just great how they handled so many relationships without overdoing it. I get that some are complaining about too much Drama. But I like the balance of this show and it switches drama and action between episodes.
Agreed 100%. I get the complaints. But tonight I was more bothered that everyone was striking everyone else' comments, instead of just keeping the main focus on the episode. I mean it's a fanbase. So this isn't brand spanking new reactions. I guess i was just a little more disappointed in the thread tonight b/c during the hiatus everyone was all for Sara and Felicity bonding or w/e or Sara making her mark back in the show, and after it aired, no one was satisfied with either or.
This episode was not good. To be honest I'm so sick of Oliver and his love interests. It really turns up the melodrama which I can't stand and it's taking screen time from other awesome characters like Diggle, Roy or even Slade, who are overdue for some character development.
I also don't get why for the last couple of episodes have been all about Sara. I mean... I don't mind her... she's okay but why... oh lord why did they need to put her with Oliver? With the amount of girls who have been in his pants on this show he's becoming a major man whore and I'm losing respect for him. I was nearly cheering at the computer screen when Laurel tore him and Sara apart and she was well within her right. Yet I don't understand why Laurel came off as the bad guy?
I feel like there's more to these characters than just ships and it feels like the writers ain't seeing it atm. *Sigh.* I really hope things pick up
Hahahaha. It's ironic for me, b/c I'm one of those people that can't stand words or characters names being misspelled. I let it go if it's a typo, slang, or if they just don't know the proper way to spell a character's name. (The way the writers spell it in a unique way). But when I can genuinely feel that they've spelled it wrong, I can't help but correct them. My friends hate that. Lol They'll always try to beat me to it and say "don't correct me." And i just think, well if you know you spelled it wrong, and don't want me to correct you then WHY not take the time to spell it correctly?? BUT, when I do it, it's NOT to belittle them, it's to help them. Anyways, I was just too exhausted by all the negativity, it just weighed me down, to care about one letter.
Maybe, but I was really looking forward seeing him adjust to the team, and now it got delayed for two whole weeks...I'm really invested in his (and Thea's) storyline, but it has been put on hold for practically the whole season with a few baby steps every six episode or so.
Not to put oil into the fire that is Sara/Felicity fandom fight that is going on... can some one explain to me the scene where Sara comments on Felicity's jacket? What was that about. I found it weird.
I didn't perceive Felicity as snarky...she just had to work through her issues herself. I liked how she encouraged Oliver to go with Sara to the dinner. It was nice to see a woman not getting consumed by her feelings and treating someone else like shit as a result, but working through her issues on her own.
She said it, because Felicity's jacket was made of leather and it's kind of like bad girl-ish. Felicity wanted to look a bit more like a bad girl, she wanted to look more like Sara or Oliver. :)
umm no, i like Laurel i think Katie is an excellent actress but i ship Sara/Ollie and no i don't have a problem with Felicity but i do with Olicity and its obnoxious side to its fandom
I am sorry, but I am beyond disappointed this week. Felicity's nemesis plot could've been so much better and I really wanted Tockman to stick around. But still the best part about the episode. I've just about had it with the family drama and implied love triangle of Sara-Oliver-Felicity already. Seriously, this show is better than that! The promos were so exciting, the title itself is a killer. Why didn't all that translate into the episode? I just don't understand.
That's a self-insert....the two terms overlap because especially in fanfictions a Mary Sue is often a idealized self-insert of the author, basically a character who lectures all the other characters about the shortcomings of the original book. But the best definition for a Mary Sue is that the plot accommodates the character instead of the other way around. Meaning, she will be in every single important scene, no matter how shoehorned in her presence is, all the other characters love her and those who don't will be portrayed as villains for not bowing to her greatness, and everything she wants will eventually fall into her lab, because she is such a special snowflake. She never makes mistakes and is always right - but even if she made some sort of alibi mistake, there will be no consequences for her. So, no, Sara isn't a Mary Sue.
Or Felicity against Sara....Felicity felt inadequate, but she didn't project that on Sara and started hating her just for being there. I hope that there will be more fighting lessons for Felicity in the future - I'm still hoping for an epic friendship between those two...I somehow dig the scenes they share. Until now, all the females were so far removed from each other that we barely got any scenes just involving them - and the ones we got were based on family relationships, not friendships. Sara's relationship to Sin is a good start already, but a girl friendship in the Arrow hideout is even better.
Great episode, although not one of Arrow's best. I loved: - Felicity's insecurities about her place in the Arrow team surfacing, and the way that played out; - the Felicity/Diggle friendship - awwww Diggle you gorgeous big cuddly softie! I wish I had a friend like that. :) - Sara's interactions with Felicity - they had a bit of a 'big sister/little sister' dynamic, which paralleled the Sara/Sin conversation nicely; - the Oliver/Laurel confrontation - it was a long time coming, and tbh, I expected him to be a little harsher. When Oliver found out that Laurel had started dating his best friend, he gave them his blessing, so why should he be accountable to her now? Anyway, I hope that it's the last we've seen of the Sara/Oliver/Laurel melodrama and more importantly, Laurel blaming everyone but herself for her misfortunes. - intoxicated Felicity! Sober Felicity is adorable, but she's twice as fun when she's high on painkillers. :D
Some criticisms: - The villain sounded so creepy and intimidating in the trailer for the episode, but the episode itself gave him too little screentime. I would've preferred to see just a little more build-up to his take down, instead of the Lance family dinner. - That little Oliver/Felicity bit was sweet, but the writers should slow down on that front unless they intend to make them a couple by the end of the season. They have great chemistry, there's no need to hint at or explicitly state the way they feel about each other in every episode - for example, the way he cupped her face and she leaned into his hand was way more adorable than the "my girl" line. Also, how long can he keep ignoring the elephant in the room?
This show just shows you That Laurel is such a Saint, I hope she mends her relationship with Sara but tells Oliver to his face to go to hell and says we are never getting back together like ever
And he is such a Liar he is obessesed with Laurel and will always be Sara is just a replacement of her plus I am sorry everyone but Felcity and oliver should just stay as friends chemistry is not everything.
I think so! I mean i think this episode touched on everybody's relationships in a healthy way. This episode needed to happen. I mean isn't that what everybody wanted? For there to be healthy relationships instead of tension/assumptions/dishonesty/betrayal/regrets/shame/ and insecurities?? isn't it better that everyone came together instead of all those emotions driving them further apart?? Everyone wanted Less Drama, More growth. Now that that happened in this episode, Everyone's unhappy?? = / I don't get it. And i'm not going to give myself a headache thinking it through either. I liked it, i guess i'm in the minority circle on that. Which is fine by me.
Certainly enjoyed the episode. Especially the ending. Loved all the Felicity/Sarah/Diggles/Oliver awesomeness! The ending had me all jaw-dropped. What a brilliant twist! It was Awesome.
Ok spite may be not the right word but when she was advising Laurel to slow things with Oliver in a flashback laurel said something to upset Sara. And the factored just a smidge into Sara going to see Oliver. But she already wanted to see him anyways but I have a sister so I know the feeling of doing something impulsive because of something she said. But this is my interpretation of that flashback. I could be wrong.
I think this was my main disappointment. Promos showed Tockman as some creepy uber villain. But in the end he was just another villain of the week with no build up at all. What did we see that was not in the trailer and sneak peak when it comes to CK. Nothing.
They should drop Oliver/Felicity unrequited love thing at this point and move on. Its now difficult to watch.
And now you are being obnoxious by replying to anyone who praises Felicity and dislikes Sara. Its not going to change anyone's preference. Every one perceives an episode in a different way.
I must have read it wrong. Need to see the episode once more. Sara was very sweet when she was training Felicity and very sensitive to her moods too. I wish they had some more conversation with each other.
I might be biased you know. I simply dislike Lance family drama. So most of their scenes were a downer for me. It was well acted. All the actors were wonderful. I also felt Sin's connection to Sara in the island was a bit unnecessary. I already liked that Sara saved Sin from some creeps and took her under her wing. Maybe this revelaton will have some significance in the future. But right now it does not add much to the story.
I expected more Slade, and William Tockman to be a more compelling villain. I think I had too much expectations :(. I thought Blast Radius was another filler episode.
I was hoping for Thea to overhear Oliver's and Moira's conversation to accelarate the process of Thea figuring out the truth but by the look of things, she'll find it out sooner rather than later anyway.
That ending. My God. As Amell said, 'PLEASE let it be next week'. And my girl Felicity! Sweet Jesus this show just gets better every week. By the end of the season I'm just going to be dead. No doubt a heart attack is in my immediate future. Arrow, you have officially killed me with pure awesome.
Awesome episode. I can't wait for next week! There were a lot of awkward moments, but I loved all of the complex dynamics that occurred in this episode. Despite all of the conflicts, it was hard to take sides, because I empathized with everyone. I completely understood how Felicity felt, why Sara never contacted her family and why Laurel was so angry with Sara and Oliver. But at the same time, Oliver was right about Laurel needing to take responsibility for her actions. I was happy to see that even though Felicity felt like she was on the periphery, she didn't let it hurt the dynamics between her and Sara. In fact, I really liked the interactions between the two females and could see them working together well as a team. Sara's comment about Felicity being "cute" was kind of sweet.
Regarding the Olicity shipping: As much as I would love to see Oliver and Felicity together, I really don't have an issue with Oliver's relationship with Sara. It's pretty common for TV writers to hold off on getting favorite characters together for as long as possible. Plus, I really like Sara and think she's a great addition to the cast.. I really hope that she doesn't become one of Slade's first victims.
It's becoming harder and harder for me to suspend my disbelief regarding people not figuring out that Oliver is the Arrow. Especially with Sara returning as a vigilante and knowing the Arrow.
Can I say I agree with you completely. While Oliver's confrontation with Laurel was well acted by both actors Oliver was a douche there. He invaded Lance dinner which took place at Laurel's home and started a relationship with the same sister he cheated on her with. While some parts of what he said to Laurel was right he does not have a moral high road to take here.
Another thing I disliked was Laurel apologized to Sara but Sara never apologized to Laurel. This episode kind of tried to put only Laurel in a bad light.
- Robert Knepper was wonderfully creepy and deranged as CK. Hurry, bring him back to face off with Felicity some more before he dies from his terminal disease. Heh. - Oliver FINALLY confronted Laurel about her selfishness and how she blames everyone but herself for her own problems and how she thinks no one's had it worse than her and how he's stood by her over and over again and got nothing but bitchiness for his troubles! That speech was PERFECT. It's exactly what I've been saying for so long. So it looks like the writers didn't lack awareness of how Laurel was coming off after all. - Even better: Oliver actually got through to her. We FINALLY moved past the Lance sister drama and Laurel's downward spiral. She decided to be the bigger person and forgive Sara, and to face up to her addiction and go to an AA meeting. Thank god. - Sara/Sin, awww! It's been so long. As I've said many times, this show lacked a female friendship. It was predictable that that dying pilot's daugther who he asked Sara to look after was Sin, but that doesn't make me like it any less. - That ending was absolutely kick-ass, but sadly, the promo pics for next week ruined it for me. Since they kept teasing a huge cliffhanger in this episode, I had a feeling this would be it. - No jealousy crap between Sara and Felicity. They didn't sass or snark at each other. Sara was nice to Felicity and thanked her for saving her life. Good. - Katie Cassidy's performance was fine. Really. But I have to admit that her extremely long face and skinny frame are distracting. Hopefully, we soon get to the episodes that were filmed after she gained some weight back because Laurel was recovering from her addiction. - I love you Diggle, even in small doses. The oxycodom (sp?) thing was killer.
The Bad:
- Regardless of how I feel about Laurel, everyone was WAY out of line expecting her to get over everything and get chummy with Sara in a few days. Actually, everything about the Lance family drama - until the ending - was crap. It was crap that Oliver and Sara actually got together instead of just having a ONS (did they really have NO qualms about going there despite all of the emotional baggage?), it was crap that anyone thought Laurel would go to Sara's party, it was crap that Quentin tried to push her to reconcile with Sara, it was crap that Sara selfishly brought Oliver to the family dinner, it was crap that Quentin tried to hit on Dinah at the dinner table, it was crap that Laurel figured out Sara and Oliver are together from some random line... you get the picture. No more soap opera plotlines, please. - While I was relieved that there wasn't jealousy per se between Sara and Felicity, it's still hard to ignore the fact that it's a *woman* joining the team that ruffles Felicity's feathers. I doubt she'd care if Roy was the one who knew how to analyze blood and kick ass. And in the end, with her saying she was worried she wouldn't be Oliver's "girl" anymore... ew. The fact that Felicity's self-esteem apparently depends on whether or not she makes Oliver happy, even when he's with another woman, is just gross. For Christ's sake, stop writing everything as to make Olicity shippers squee in delight. - I also think that Felicity's insecurity was frankly quite contrived. It wasn't built up over time. Sara just joins the team and suddenly Felicity feels useless. As far as I can tell, she was perfectly self-possessed before that. - No advancing of the overarching story, except for that awesome ending. - Almost no Canary kicking ass. Did they delete the scene of Felicity standing by Oliver/Sara's bike outside and Sara running? It was in the promo pics.
Being able to analyze blood with a microscope doesn't make Sara super-smart. It was just a silly contrivance to make Felicity insecure. If Sara is a Mary Sue, how come she didn't help save the day at all? Oliver took down the thugs, Felicity took down Clock King, Diggle shut off the gas... the most Sara did was get the blood sample from CK by throwing her baton at him. And when did everyone bend over backwards to save her? A Mary Sue in that sense is someone like Elena from TVD... the whole plot revolving around saving/protecting her and all the characters being committed to it.
If anything, I thought Laurel was the Mary Sue for most of the show. As early as episode 3 we had Tommy telling her he's going to prove he's "someone that [she] deserve[s]". We barely know anything about Laurel at this point but we're already hearing about how men have to prove themselves worthy of her. Oh, and that's after Tommy also told her into the Pilot that she's always saving the world. THAT'S a Mary Sue, when the plot and different characters tell you she's awesome while the actual events on screen show otherwise. Not when ONE character (Felicity) says the supposed Mary Sue (Sara) is awesome for the sake of some lame inferiority complex storyline that came out of nowhere and ends just as abruptly.
Oliver telling Felicity she's his "girl" (ick) was one of those random OOC moments I just choose to ignore. In this case, it couldn't be more obvious that the writers are pretty much pulling out all of the stops to pander to Olicity shippers so they can squee and proceed to make Tumblr crash with gifs/videos/banners of their favorite ship. If the characters were being written like adults (as they usually are), Felicity wouldn't claim the reason for her insecurity was fear that she wouldn't be Oliver's "girl" (and ick some more... is he a pimp or something?) but simply that it's important for her to feel like part of the team and like the others respect her, and Oliver would assure her that's the case. But alas, nothing is as important as inspiring another 10000000000 "When will Oliver kiss Felicity already????" Facebook comments on Arrow's page.
Agreed. I've always liked Felicity, but I've had it up to here *points to own head* with hearing about how the entire show revolves around Olicity. Before Sara slept with Oliver, 99% of the fandom thought she was awesome. Now that she gets in the way of their precious ship, however, a lot of Olicity fans are raking her over the coals much like they did to Laurel and Barry before. I know it's not everyone because there are plenty of nice normal Olicity fans, like Shannon who's one of my best buds around here. But there's this very vocal group of obsessed loons among Olicity shippers which can't seem to realize that their ship isn't at the center of the Arrow universe.
Agreed completely I don't know where the whole Sara is so perfect thing came from? I am feel like I was watching a different episode. She got hit in training, she almost got shot there was no perfection that I saw. In regards to the being able to do the analysis, it was fairly straight forward and not overly complex, someone who spent a year doing Ivo dirty work should be able to do that I would have been disappointed if she wasn't able.
I don't have enough "Word" for this comment! Seriously. I used to love Felicity and not mind the idea of Olicity. But I'm at the point where I want to puke from all the Olicity crap, both on the actual show and online. You can't go to any Arrow-related page on the internet, be it SpoilerTV, TVLine, YouTube, Facebook, IMDB, ANYTHING without being crushed by an avalanche of Olicity and questions like "OMG when are they gonna kiss already?" and "Why does meeeeean Oliver sleep with everyone except Felicity?" and "All the girls on Arrow are ugly bitches except Felicity".... notice how everyone loved Sara until she dared get in Oliver's pants, the contents of which Felicity apparently owns now? (Sorry for the crudeness, THAT's how much they've driven me up the wall already) I always thought Arrow skewed male because it's an action show, but good lord, this very vocal part of the Olicity fandom (I know it's not everyone) makes it look more like the show's primary audience is 12-year-old girls.
The difference is, you don't see a crowd of Sara fans wishing violent death upon Felicity because she threatens the Oliver/Sara romance. As far as I can tell, 99% of Sara's fans are mature enough to realize that just because you like a character and a pairing that involves her, doesn't mean every person who gets in the way of that pairing needs to be hated with the passion of a thousand blazing suns. Can't say the same for Felicity/Olicity fans, sadly. Mind you, I'm someone who likes Felicity a lot when she isn't making googly eyes at Ollie, and doesn't ship Oliver/Sara.
I agree with almost every single word of yours. The blood analysis - well, I can buy it because it seems pretty simple so it's not like they suddenly gave Sara these amazing skills... but it was only even done for the sake of Felicity's sudden inferiority complex so it's still annoying. Lance family drama is overdone and unbelievable. Can't believe Oliver and Sara got back together with so little fanfare as if there isn't so much ugly history there that should make them tread VERY carefully, especially just a few freaking days after Sara came back (and Laurel found out). And I agree that it's ridiculous how they followed Roy's big entry to the team by a completely Roy-less episode and then an episode where his presence is literally blink-and-you'll-miss-it.
Finally, while I *loved* Oliver finally calling Laurel on her crap - it was one of those amazing cathartic scenes where a character says exactly what you're thinking (how many types have I typed that shit about Laurel? LMAO) - I actually thought she got the shaft during the rest of the episode. Oliver and Sara don't spare a second's thought to her feelings before getting back together... Quentin pretty much tells her "You need to get over it" regarding her anger at her sister... Sara brings Oliver to dinner (WHAT?)... and finally, even when the sisters reconcile it's done in a way that makes it seem only Laurel was in the wrong. Yes, she was out of line exploding at Sara the way she did in the end of 2x13, but Sara still should've provided one epic apology for what she did 6 years ago before they hugged and made up.
And if I'm saying all of this as someone who spends most of Laurel's screentime wishing he could reach into the screen to smack her, I can't even imagine how enraged I would be if I actually liked the character.
Agreed. That scene with Laurel and Sara didn´t move me at all, mostly cause I don´t believe anything that comes out of her mouth. Still, despite all that, it WAS one of the better Laurel scenes this season.
I actually hated the scene (as well as the scene with the realisation that Tommy's death was her fault in 2.03) BECAUSE they had to happen. They were good, but because it took that long to happen, they were awful.
I have more of a problem with Felicity saying that the reason she was feeling down is because she didn't think she was still his "girl", than with Oliver replying that she is. Because it's creepy and gross to me that Felicity defines herself through making Oliver happy like he's her pimp or something. It's bad enough when female characters are framed as girlfriends/wives first (or only), but when a woman is all star-struck and devoted to a guy who's dating someone else, it becomes downright appalling. I miss the Felicity of last season, the one who respected Oliver but also didn't hesitate to stand up to him (trying to stop him from going after someone in 1x15 and initially wanting to quit the team when she realized she didn't agree with Oliver's violent methods). Now, this pathetic infatuation she has with him is eroding what's otherwise a great and lovable character. If this keeps up I'm going to root for her to move to The Flash. At least she wasn't reduced to a simpering girl with a crush around Barry.
Yeah, I know, but I didn't want to rip into the character again. Considering that Felicity wasn't exactly endeared by Sara, and Felicity was not portrayed as a villain for her feelings, this was pretty much the opposite of a Mary Sue.
I did, but at the same time I couldn't help thinking he was kind of a tool for making that "You're giving notice?" comment to Dinah. Yes, Sara is back, but he couldn't just automatically assume Dinah was going to return to Starling because of that - and making said comment at the table put her in an awkward position. That's a discussion Quentin and Dinah should've had in private.
No, not really. She is never always right, nor is she able to fix everything (otherwise the Glades would still be standing), and her actions do have consequences, even if it something minor like a scar. Plus, she is still pretty much a side-character, the plot is rarely about her.
Last time we saw Blood, he was telling Slade about how Moira was running for Mayor against him which could cause problems, and Slade said he'll take care of it himself. So I guess Slade is pretending to back Moira's campaign (not that she needs a monetary donation... more like the best PR team ever) while his actual intent is to sabotage it. Of course, I suspect Slade would've pulled something like this regardless of the campaign, because the prospect of toying with Oliver this way must've been too good to pass up.
Everything was perfect for Sara? lol did you see how much the family dinner crashed.
Even then cant she be happy for even a day, we know Slade is back and its likely he is going to be making a lot of hell for Oliver and Sara. So Sara's life isnt just peachy nor is Oliver/Sara going to be happy for long.
Oliver might've just saved Laurel's life (...again), because he granted her the one thing she has desperately been lacking: self-awareness. She finally realized how self-centered she's been, how she simply assumed her problems were worse than anyone else's and pushed away anyone who wanted to help. It worked wonders, I mean, a day later she was patching things up with Sara and finally going to a freaking AA meeting. I'm not usually one for tough love, but Laurel had sunk so low that the only way to get through to her was to lay everything on the line and put a mirror to her face. I'm glad Oliver didn't back down from doing that in order to spare her feelings.
I'm hesitant to say Laurel's character is finally going to come around, coz you know - fool me once, twice, thrice... but who knows, maybe this time is the charm. It better be.
I think that it was high time for Oliver to break the circle. He had allowed Laurel to use him as an excuse for her own shortcomings for way to long. As long as he kept apologizing to her, he was also unwittingly acting as his enabler. Sara already apologized to Laurel last episode.
Yes, exactly. Dragging this out for so long does very little to redeem Laurel in my eyes. I mean, it was good, but it was a talk that should have happened sooner.
Sara/Sin could kinda be the Xena/Gabrielle of this show (minus the gay subtext). I hope we see more of this relationship. But yeah, I've mentioned that I want to see more of women being friends/working together on this show. Maybe now with Laurel and Sara burying the hatchet, Felicity and Sara getting along well, and Sara/Sin it's going to get better.
In concept, I think Olicity is fine. In execution, it's been a disaster, in the late episodes of Season 1 (after the writers realized they had shippers to pander to) and more so this season. It's ridiculous, cheesy and has all of the subtlety of a wrecking ball.
Haven´t you heard me , I´ve been telling her that all season long :)
Do you think he will actually stick to it though?
The only way that scene would have been better would have been if her father had been there to see it. Don´t know why really, but somehow I would have liked to see the look on his face.
I would say I disapprove of Oliver coming to the dinner but approve of what he said to Laurel. And not just because of my personal feelings about her. She needed to hear it, because she clearly didn't realize that her messed-up life isn't everyone else's fault, and is actually her own to some degree (the drugs/alcohol and therefore getting fired). As harsh as Oliver was to Laurel, it was apparently the only way to get her to open her eyes and start working towards fixing her problems instead of blaming others for them. And it worked - she's finally moving towards a healthier place in her life, it seems.
I definitely agree that Sara should've apologized. That fleeting "I'm sorry" to Laurel before leaving in the previous episode wasn't enough. As much as I may like Sara, going on that boat with Ollie merits like the apology of the century. So I didn't like how the scene seemed to suggest that Laurel was the only one in the wrong; I DO think she screwed the hell up with how she reacted to Sara's return, but that doesn't change what Sara did. The writing here is biased even if the bias is in favor of the character I happen to like better.
Haha. So have I. For some reason, they don't hear me through my screen ;)
Considering she's cleaning up her act now, he won't because he has no need to because she won't blame everyone else for her problems or drink or take drugs etc. anymore.
Ditto. I still find it MADDENING that Oliver basically disowned his own mother for lying about the identity of Thea's bio-father, and then said "Thea can never know." I'm sorry, what? YOU deserved to know that Malcolm is Thea's bio-dad (so badly that hiding it from you is a sin worthy of cutting Moira from your life), but SHE doesn't?! I hate it when characters do such idiotic things for the sake of drama. I can't wait for Thea to find out and rip Oliver a new one. It may hurt her more deeply that he lied to her as opposed to Moira because at least she's used to her mother's lies by now, but she probably feels she can always trust Oliver. And maybe, maybe, Thea justifiably reading Ollie the riot act would make him realize how hypocritical he is. Doing the exact same thing he hates Moira for doing to him.
It was an amazing moment because I felt like I could've written that scene. All of the things Oliver told Laurel are stuff I've written over and over again to express my dislike of the character. Seeing it spelled out on screen was pure catharsis and gives me a little more faith in the writers: looks like they weren't blind to how unlikable they were making her.
Seriously, that thing with the microscope looked like something you could teach in middle class biology. THAT makes Sara a genius all of a sudden? I think viewers are seeing things in this episode through Felicity's eyes - she was getting all insecure so something as minor as analyzing the blood seemed to her like proof that Sara was all-knowing and all-capable and she (Felicity) wasn't needed. But obviously, that's not the actual case, just Felicity's skewed PoV.
This episode was 10 steps back for Felicity in my opinion. I was embarassed for her at several instances. She is a 25 yr old professional not a teenage girl to feel insecure about the girlfriend of the guy you like. Sara is not mary sue but I didn't like the blood analysis part either. If only they would have scraped the you are my girl thing and had a good conversation between Sara and Felicity.
Thank goodness somebody understands me here and don't think I have an agenda against Sara. I love you Alex. Its like you are reading my mind.
In this episode
-Felicity took 10 steps back in character development for me. She is a professional not a teenage girl. Act like it -Oliver is a hypocrite. Both towards Moira and Laurel. Even though I loved his dialogue to Laurel. It felt as if I was saying it. And like it or not Olicity and Oliver/Sara fans he was condesending and short towards Felicity. -Sara annoyed me for the first time. Dinner with Oliver at Laurel's place WTF, and that look to Oliver it was as if she wanted to be caught by Laurel. Most of all she did not apologize to Laurel. I disliked her comment about Felicity's jacket. - Clock King was such a downer. He turned out to be another villain of the week with no build up
Diggle and Slade was the only good things that happened this episode. I am glad this episode is out of way. I saw it twice thinking I am taking it the wrong way. But second watch actually made me more angry.
I am actually rooting to kill Felicity off. I love her character. If they make her only the love interest like what they did with Laurel. I'd rather see her written off the show.
Me too. I might be short with Sara this episode but if they ditch her to make Laurel BC, I'll start a riot.
I have a bad feeling if the show ends by season 5 and if the actress sticks around they have a plan to make her BC by the end of series finale. It will be better than making her BC now.
Am I the only one who did not see any point in the Sara/Sin back story. What was the need for it ? We already had a story that Sara saved Sin from some creeps and took her under her wings. And I love Sara for it and it was one of the things that made her my favorite. I like Sin too but unless they touch Sin's father later on the back story could have been scrapped and included other characters like Roy or Thea.
Can you believe it us both feeling sorry for Laurel?? I am just glad that this episode is over . OLiver, Felicity and Sara will go back to their cool old selves.
Watched the episode again. Still don't like that scene. I was embarassed for Felicity. It felt like Felicity was a teenage girl trying to dress up like the girlfriend of the guy she likes and the said girlfriend pointing it out. No it wasn't funny.
Even I think he is going to have a moment where he realises that he is not that better than Moira. Of all the lies that Moira said since the show began this was the most selfless one. Its like all the character growth that Oliver got first half of the season just went away this last few episodes.
Sigh. I'm not much into shipping but I think the continuous fail of Olicity is making me start to appreciate Barricity* more. Since Barry is a shy nerd, like Felicity, not this hot and tough badass, she's unlikely to have this hero-worshipping/star-struck vibe towards him that makes Olicity so gross. I can't ever imagine Felicity asking Barry if she's still his girl... (because it can't be said enough, ew! Congrats, crazy part of the Olicity fandom, you've managed to get the writers to turn an awesome female character into a simpering teenage girl with a crush).
* I used to find "combined couple names" nauseating - actually, I still do - but I've accepted that people are always going to use them, and I guess it makes it shorter to type, so whatever. I always preferred to write it like O/F (Oliver/Felicity) F/B (Felicity/Barry).
The problem is this was done to show the audience Sara can fight, Sara can fight so Felicity should feel insecure. In my opinion Felicity should not feel insecure at all. It was done only to make drama. 10 bucks says next episode onwards we will never see Sara analysing blood. It was not middle school biology she figured out a rare genetic disease by analysing the blood.
Didn't she just put the blood sample into the computer, which performed a test and found that Tockman had the disease? I thought what she did was fairly technical and didn't indicate special medical knowledge or anything.
But anyway, you'll probably win those 10 bucks because yeah, the whole purpose of this was contrived set-up for Felicity's insecurity, something that had no build-up before and will probably never come up again. Groan.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Epic Ending!!! love that show....cant stand sarah sorry
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree Sarah is irritating! I thought it was just me that thought that! However, this was still an excellent episode and an EPIC ENDING!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSara is awesome
ReplyDeleteExcuse me!!!!!!!!! Laurel had every right to be pissed at Sara and Oliver, i'm glad she's making some changes and getting healthy again!
ReplyDeleteI'm also glad Felicity was pro active and managed to beat her nemesis.
Not crazy about Oliver calling her "his girl". Felt stupid.
The ending was epic! CAN'T. WAIT.
That ending was something! I can't believe we have to wait until next Wednesday!!!!
ReplyDeleteno....most certainly not.
ReplyDeleteMary Sues are terrible plot devices that tend to annoy people
what u mean by "Mary Sue"?
ReplyDeletedidn't get the reference! =P
a Mary Sue is generally a character protected by the plot (everybody, even those that dislike her, bending over backwards to save her), capable of doing anything (Sarah being the ultimate uber warrior and turns out is sssuuupppeeeerrr smart) and is morally right...everytime.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the explanation!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with you btw. This whole Sara love doesn't feel natural at all.
The only thing I like about Sarah is um... Hang on it'll come to me. Uh, I like... Nope, I don't like Sarah. Wish Felicity and Roy had more airtime. And Diggle too.
ReplyDeleteThat's just what I was thinking ... as anxious as I had been for this episode (which by the way they promoted as a Felicity episode and it turned out to be a Sara one, that they're in a fair way to having ruined Sara because it was so over done.
ReplyDeleteBy the time Laurel was telling Sara off, I was completely on Team Laurel.
As for Oliver, he just turned into a complete douche, telling Felicity that she'll always be his girl and then going up and kissing Sara.
Sara ftw
ReplyDeleteAgreed, Laurel was completely right to be pissed off at Sara and Oliver. First time I ever found myself rooting for her. Oliver was a patronizing douche for calling Felicity "my girl".
ReplyDeleteIm sick of Felicity and even more sick of the cult that follows her
ReplyDeletePicky people at that
ReplyDeleteBecause she is at this point
ReplyDeleteAnd the forced Olicity stuff does lmao
ReplyDeleteThis episode was all kinds of awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad the Lance sisters finally reconciled!
P.S. Yay for Felicity getting her first scar! :P
yeah, Sara seems to be a great addition and plenty to offer to the show. These Olicity fans should cool down since they appear as the most insane part of the fandom and are becoming an irritant which may at least cloud how I feel about Felecity as a character
ReplyDeleteI would be perfectly fine with Felicity if not for that goddamned cult. Worse of all are the morons who would write off an entire episode just because it didn't have enough Oliver/Felicity "moments". Gag.
ReplyDeleteyou all know that my thoughts on latter episodes don't tend to be positive...why ? The show is focusing away from the heroic actions and is focusing more and more on the drama, the romance and the fanservice. One would assume a show about a hooded hero would be about him fighting criminals first, leading his life second but nope. We get a party to welcome back Sara, a Sara welcoming dinner with the family, Sara bonding with Sin, Sara looking over a fire in a flashback, Sara showing everyone who's boss in the Arrow cave, not even 5 minutes of the villain and 20 seconds of a cliffhanger to make people like me watch.
ReplyDeleteThe show revealed Slade to be back way back in episode 9.
This wasn't just two steps back, this was the show turning around, running around the globe and then making twenty further steps back
I'll take the downvotes like a man but be warned, down is where this show seems to be headed
dude, chill, i never said anything about olicity.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is i loved Felicity last year and i think its the fandom of her that has made me close to hating her especially when they have to put down Laurel or Sara to put her up on a pedestal
ReplyDeletenot that I would like Felicity but you seem to be leading your own Sara cult. Hypocrisy is a dish best served micro-waved. Because you wouldn't want to shove it into the oven
ReplyDeleteIts not like I'm wrong i have read your posts before but yes i will chill, my apologies
ReplyDeleteyou are correct. All these shippers should move on to some teeny romance drama as it appeas that all they care about is shi
ReplyDeleteAgreed
ReplyDeleteSara is getting an unfair bashing from shippers so yeah i will stand behind her
ReplyDeleteEasy solution don't watch if you love Manu so much go watch Spartacus
ReplyDeleteIt's not like you're right either. I have the discernment to dislike some character's actions despite my shipping options.
ReplyDeleteobviously your favourite character deserves your support but one should not shoot down valid criticism in case it is there.
ReplyDeleteI care about neither Sara or Felicity, but in this situation Sara felt completely like a overpowered character a writer usually uses to insert himself.
A character has flaws to be made interesting, Sara has none. Neither did Felicity but unlike Felicity Sara is uber powered with physical strength and mental capability. Felicity bored me in season 1, Sara annoys me with this writing to no end,
There should be a limit to over perfection
If you are the same person who posted last week on this issue then sorry I'm right don't make me use one of your quotes
ReplyDeleteIf anyone wants soapy romance they should move to some teeny romance drama. Sara makes the show a lot richer and this irrational hate for a character just because precious Felecity feels insecure is not called for
ReplyDeletedoes your butt require some water, sir ? Or shall I just ask Caity Lotz to lick it ?
ReplyDeleteI understand your viewpoint and respect it, but i still love Sara so thats that lol
ReplyDeleteThere's more people bitching about fans and bitching at each other in this post than making actual comments on the episode.
ReplyDeletethey should change awesome to EPIC!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, Sara brings action and a rich backstory thats what I'm watching for not will they won't they romance week in week out
ReplyDeleteeventually what happens because of shipping, the sad fate of shows that decide to focus on the wrong way of storytelling. Writing in romance for shippers is like a drug: once inserted into a shows system it is both needed by a part of the 'body' but on the other hand causes massive internal fights
ReplyDeleteI would love it if Caity licked my butt lol
ReplyDeleteand that is your right :)
ReplyDeletehell I have my favourite bashed all the time as well, hell Malcolm doesen't even appear :P
lol, may get a tad bit expensive tough. Kinda bursting our butt-cooling budget
ReplyDeleteGood post Shannon agreed on all counts
ReplyDeleteok, i'm so sorry if i have a different opinion than yours. i really hope i change my mind by next week's episode. nice talking to you! =D
ReplyDeleteEpic episode !Lot's of action !
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for next week !
true lol sorry i rubbed you the wrong way i get a bit defensive with Caity we all have our weaknesses lol
ReplyDeleteIm on your side with Malcolm he is a great villain and has a really great presence
ReplyDeleteThere was a lot I liked about Sara in previous episodes, especially her vulnerability, but the writing in this episode was just so Sara! Sara! Sara! (Brady Bunch reference) that it turned me off her.
ReplyDeleteyou didn't, I just try to keep fandoms from all sides at bay if it comes to playing favourites ;P
ReplyDeleteGreat episode.
ReplyDeleteAlso enjoyed the backstory on Sara and Sin, poor Sin not having her parents, but at least she's got Sara.
ReplyDeleteComes down to preferences I guess.
I for one like my characters to have some depth and flaws, but if you're fine with someone that is perfect at everything and is beloved by everyone I won't stop you from anything.
It wasn't needed for the storytelling tough, that is just major justifying bs
clearly Olicity is an issue, it just luckily isn't the writers focus, if it were we'd have 'The Arrow Diaries'....wich would be a major turnoff.
ReplyDeleteI don't recall Felicity (as a character, not shipper object) ever having had the focus as Sara had tonight. Just an observation
how do Slade and Moira know each other? is he pretending to be Moira Ally and at the same time force Sebstain Blood to dirty work for him?
ReplyDeleteWhat are you talking about? Sara revealed herself to Quentin about her true identity long ago? Well actually, he figured it out and she confirmed it.
ReplyDeleteI think i have found your cyber brother dantemax on imbd ring a bell lol
ReplyDeleteFinally the Laurel self pity party is over.
ReplyDeletefrom what i hear, there is a teeny romance drama 24 hours after arrow starts to air. has hot shirtless vampires every episode. i suggest people looking for romance and love triangles go there.
ReplyDeleteThat was one of the most epic endings for any show I have ever seen. I literally cannot wait until next week.
ReplyDeleteI always thought a mary sue was an author projecting themselves on a character - I was told that definition a couple years back. Didn't realize it wasn't quite true.
ReplyDeletewow I'm surprised people actually think Olicity is forced… but then again I am an olicity shipper so I guess my opinion would be biased but I always shipped Olicity ONLY because of Stephen's and Emily's awesome chemistry (which they were almost nominated for at the people's choice awards). I never got the feeling like it was forced UNTIL this episode. Not gonna lie, I wasn't a fan of the "you'll always be my girl" scene AT ALL and i'm a HUGE olicity fan :/
ReplyDeleteI I didn't like the episode.
ReplyDeleteI liked the ease between Oliver and Sara.
Overall a very average episode.
ReplyDeleteIsland scenes were meh..
ReplyDeleteEvery one is entitled to have an opinion.
ReplyDeleteI'm trying to figure out whether they did it on purpose, make Oliver's relationship with Sara untenable so that it crashes and burns relatively soon, or whether it's just really bad writing.
ReplyDeleteFor the first time since she appeared, I'm looking to see when she'll be gone, if she ever is.
I didn't think Oliver was patronizing in the my girl comment. He was just replying to what Felicity said. They could have written some other good dialogue but I didn't mind it.
ReplyDeleteIm not sure if your trying to be smug but i aint gonna bite
ReplyDeleteSara has plenty of flaws it doesn't mean they need to focus on them all the time its refreshing to show characters in a positive light when needed
ReplyDeleteThis ep made me like Sara more and Felicity less, i mean Sara treats Felicity with respect and concern and how does Felicity react she gets all snarky with her
ReplyDeleteIts only bad writing from a shipper angle
ReplyDeleteI got a bit more aggressive on the topic when after last ep a bunch of Olicity fans went on a verbal assault on Caitys twitter and Facebook page the stuff their was just so obnoxious and uncalled for so yeah call me what you want but you won't see me going on Emilys page and showing the same immaturity
ReplyDeleteI want more Diggle like others but honestly Felicity gets a buttload of screentime
ReplyDeleteMary Sue=Felicity she can hack anything even defuse bombs
ReplyDeleteI liked this episode. It was good to have Arrow back after a too long hiatus.
ReplyDeleteI liked how they handled Felicity's insecurity in this episode and seeing the four of them working together as a team on the Arrow cave.
ReplyDeleteNow just two posts down its already a war. I liked coming to spoiler tv. If this continues I will have to stay away.
I liked it...I was worried about this one, but there were a lot of nice scenes for Felicity and Sara. The only downside: Now Roy is pretty much side-lined.
ReplyDeleteThere are other places where you can learn stuff than just the college.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call it a filler episode...I bitched a lot about the pacing of the show since it is back, but this time around, everything served a purpose.
ReplyDeleteWhat are they doing with Roy, Oliver started training him, but because of Sara, he has been cast in the shadows.
ReplyDeleteCautiously optimistic is the perfect word to describe Laurel situation. I still don't know where they are taking her. She still seems to be floating kind of alone.
ReplyDeleteI don't know this episode didn't sit well with me. Oliver throwing the party, going to the dinner every thing felt contrived to me.
Well, the character has some merit as Sara's sister and Quentin's daughter...but I hope that they'll leave it at that.
ReplyDeleteAwkward.
ReplyDeleteI agree and thats my main tiff with this episode. There is no continuity with Arrow now.
ReplyDeleteThis episode kind of ruined my dream of Laurel turning evil. She is on the mend now, so she is going to be still in this limbo. Oliver is done with her now. But what happens when he knows about Brother Blood being Sebastian? SA was amazing in that scene when he was cutting cords with Laurel. When he walked back he rubbed his eyes. It was wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHe'll be back next week. In a big way I'm sure. Especially with that extended promo.
ReplyDeletemy first thought the proper name for this episode "awkward" - I mean everybody felt this way at some point of the epi.
ReplyDeleteLoved every second of this episode.
ReplyDeleteGreat group dynamic in the cave, like where they are going
nice handling of the reletionships:
Oliver/Laurel
Oliver/Felcity
Felicity/Sara
Felicity/Diggle
Sara/Lauren
Oliver/Quentin
Sara/Sin
Quentin/Laurel
and so on.It is also nice to see Oliver in a healthy relationship, as long as Felicity is always his Girl.
Haha I don't need to say my first, it's implied. ; )
ReplyDeletefelt exactly the same way :D (except that I also enjoyed the Laurel scenes). Loved the gentelmen turning around too.
ReplyDeleteYa know I did mean to say Gentlemen instead of gentleman, but I forgot, then got too lazy to care. Lol Everyone knows what I meant, so I'm going to just leave it. Shrugs. Glad you enjoyed the episode as well. = ) Next week looks exciting. Can't wait.
ReplyDeleteThe episode was okay. I liked only 2 scenes: the ending and the talk betwenn Laurel and Oliver.
ReplyDeleteSarah annoys me. I hope she will be gone by the end of the season. And I'm not Olicity shipper.
Thanks ;), it's just great how they handled so many relationships without overdoing it. I get that some are complaining about too much Drama. But I like the balance of this show and it switches drama and action between episodes.
ReplyDeleteAm I the only here who thinks that this Olicity nonsense going on in the show is NOT NEEDED? Just seems to send the fandom into crazy town.
ReplyDeleteAgreed 100%.
ReplyDeleteThis episode was not good. To be honest I'm so sick of Oliver and his love interests. It really turns up the melodrama which I can't stand and it's taking screen time from other awesome characters like Diggle, Roy or even Slade, who are overdue for some character development.
ReplyDeleteI also don't get why for the last couple of episodes have been all about Sara.
*Sigh.* I really hope things pick up
Yeah, I think your meaning is clear:D. I am the last person to correct typos, I did not even notice before you mentioned it.....
ReplyDeleteIt's not as bad as Supernatural comments, but it's definitely putting me off commenting on Arrow as well
ReplyDeleteHahahaha.
ReplyDeleteMaybe, but I was really looking forward seeing him adjust to the team, and now it got delayed for two whole weeks...I'm really invested in his (and Thea's) storyline, but it has been put on hold for practically the whole season with a few baby steps every six episode or so.
ReplyDeleteNot to put oil into the fire that is Sara/Felicity fandom fight that is going on... can some one explain to me the scene where Sara comments on Felicity's jacket? What was that about. I found it weird.
ReplyDeleteI didn't perceive Felicity as snarky...she just had to work through her issues herself. I liked how she encouraged Oliver to go with Sara to the dinner. It was nice to see a woman not getting consumed by her feelings and treating someone else like shit as a result, but working through her issues on her own.
ReplyDeleteShe said it, because Felicity's jacket was made of leather and it's kind of like bad girl-ish. Felicity wanted to look a bit more like a bad girl, she wanted to look more like Sara or Oliver. :)
ReplyDeleteThats what I thought. I didn't like her pointing that out.
ReplyDeleteSara liked it. It was a little joke, but it wasn't an offense, it was kind of lovely actually. Because Sara doesn't have anything against Felicity. :)
ReplyDeleteBtw: Funniest moment of the episode: Sin's "Zombie fetish" explanation.
ReplyDeletePreach
ReplyDeletehmmm ok then are you another type of shipper lol
ReplyDeleteHonestly the Sara/Felicity scenes and the Sara/Sin scenes were just what the show needed imo
ReplyDeleteWhy is it because of Sara?
ReplyDeleteFiller ep yeah ok i don't think their has been 1 ep this season that is a filler ep
ReplyDeleteumm no, i like Laurel i think Katie is an excellent actress but i ship Sara/Ollie and no i don't have a problem with Felicity but i do with Olicity and its obnoxious side to its fandom
ReplyDeleteThe line where Felicity says 'What do you think you can do here anyway' come off as really catty to me but other than that no prob
ReplyDeleteWhen was it revealed that she is dating Ollie out of spite for her sis
ReplyDeleteThat is a valid point except one of the posters is from this forum i refuse to shame them here
ReplyDeleteI am another type of shipper. I am Oliver\Laurel shipper. And yes, we still exist :D
ReplyDeletelol i actually don't mind them not so much this season, i think Katie was fantastic tonight though
ReplyDeleteThat whole scene was great with the hug and do you know her line lol
ReplyDeleteI agree, Katie did a wonderful job)
ReplyDeleteNot the only one, no.
ReplyDeleteLaurel came off as the bad guy cause she blamed everyone else for her own bad choices.
ReplyDeleteYes, Oliver. Finally! Thank you for saying to Laurel what I have felt for a long, looooong, time.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry, but I am beyond disappointed this week.
ReplyDeleteI'm an Olicity shipper but I just don't like the path they've taken with these two. It's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteThat's a self-insert....the two terms overlap because especially in fanfictions a Mary Sue is often a idealized self-insert of the author, basically a character who lectures all the other characters about the shortcomings of the original book.
ReplyDeleteBut the best definition for a Mary Sue is that the plot accommodates the character instead of the other way around.
ReplyDeletenot by brother, that's me ^^
ReplyDeleteI was wonder that too.
ReplyDeleteIt´s a pleasure to meet your, Mr Queen. Awesome!!! Can´t wait to see what is next.
ReplyDeleteGreat episode, although not one of Arrow's best.
ReplyDeleteI loved:
- Felicity's insecurities about her place in the Arrow team surfacing, and the way that played out;
- the Felicity/Diggle friendship - awwww Diggle you gorgeous big cuddly softie! I wish I had a friend like that. :)
- Sara's interactions with Felicity - they had a bit of a 'big sister/little sister' dynamic, which paralleled the Sara/Sin conversation nicely;
- the Oliver/Laurel confrontation - it was a long time coming, and tbh, I expected him to be a little harsher.
Some criticisms:
- The villain sounded so creepy and intimidating in the trailer for the
episode, but the episode itself gave him too little screentime. I
would've preferred to see just a little more build-up to his take down,
instead of the Lance family dinner.
- That little Oliver/Felicity bit was sweet, but the writers should
slow down on that front unless they intend to make them a couple by the
end of the season. They have great
chemistry, there's no need to hint at or explicitly state the way they feel about each other in
every episode - for example, the way he cupped her face and she leaned into his hand was way more adorable than the "my girl" line. Also, how long can he keep ignoring the elephant in the room?
This show just shows you That Laurel is such a Saint, I hope she mends her relationship with Sara but tells Oliver to his face to go to hell and says we are never getting back together like ever
ReplyDeleteAnd he is such a Liar he is obessesed with Laurel and will always be Sara is just a replacement of her plus I am sorry everyone but Felcity and oliver should just stay as friends chemistry is not everything.
ReplyDeleteHmm, i see your point. I got nothing. LOL sorry.
ReplyDeleteI think so!
ReplyDeleteCertainly enjoyed the episode. Especially the ending. Loved all the Felicity/Sarah/Diggles/Oliver awesomeness! The ending had me all jaw-dropped. What a brilliant twist!
ReplyDeleteIt was Awesome.
Loved that scene!
ReplyDeleteThe end was EPIC! i get it now why Stephen Amell said that it was going to be one of those “Please let it be the following week right away!” moment!
ReplyDeleteOk spite may be not the right word but when she was advising Laurel to slow things with Oliver in a flashback laurel said something to upset Sara. And the factored just a smidge into Sara going to see Oliver. But she already wanted to see him anyways but I have a sister so I know the feeling of doing something impulsive because of something she said. But this is my interpretation of that flashback. I could be wrong.
ReplyDeleteI think this was my main disappointment. Promos showed Tockman as some creepy uber villain. But in the end he was just another villain of the week with no build up at all. What did we see that was not in the trailer and sneak peak when it comes to CK. Nothing.
ReplyDeleteThey should drop Oliver/Felicity unrequited love thing at this point and move on. Its now difficult to watch.
And now you are being obnoxious by replying to anyone who praises Felicity and dislikes Sara. Its not going to change anyone's preference. Every one perceives an episode in a different way.
ReplyDeleteI must have read it wrong. Need to see the episode once more. Sara was very sweet when she was training Felicity and very sensitive to her moods too. I wish they had some more conversation with each other.
ReplyDeleteI might be biased you know.
ReplyDeleteI expected more Slade, and William Tockman to be a more compelling villain. I think I had too much expectations :(. I thought Blast Radius was another filler episode.
I agree. Watching these friendships and as they grow is really enjoyable. :)
ReplyDeleteNo. I agree. At this point they need to put a stop to it and make them just friends.
ReplyDeleteNot even close to redeeming Laurel for me, but it's a step in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for Thea to overhear Oliver's and Moira's conversation to accelarate the process of Thea figuring out the truth but by the look of things, she'll find it out sooner rather than later anyway.
ReplyDeleteThat ending. My God. As Amell said, 'PLEASE let it be next week'. And my girl Felicity! Sweet Jesus this show just gets better every week. By the end of the season I'm just going to be dead. No doubt a heart attack is in my immediate future. Arrow, you have officially killed me with pure awesome.
ReplyDeleteAwesome episode.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the Olicity shipping: As much as I would love to see Oliver and Felicity together, I really don't have an issue with Oliver's relationship with Sara.
Has Oliver even shown any interesting in getting back together with her lately?
ReplyDeleteCan I say I agree with you completely.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing I disliked was Laurel apologized to Sara but Sara never apologized to Laurel. This episode kind of tried to put only Laurel in a bad light.
Not sure how to feel about this episode...
ReplyDeleteThe Good:
ReplyDeleteIf anything, I thought Laurel was the Mary Sue for most of the show.
ReplyDeleteOliver telling Felicity she's his "girl" (ick) was one of those random OOC moments I just choose to ignore.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteAgreed completely I don't know where the whole Sara is so perfect thing came from? I am feel like I was watching a different episode. She got hit in training, she almost got shot there was no perfection that I saw. In regards to the being able to do the analysis, it was fairly straight forward and not overly complex, someone who spent a year doing Ivo dirty work should be able to do that I would have been disappointed if she wasn't able.
ReplyDeleteI don't have enough "Word" for this comment! (Sorry for the crudeness, THAT's how much they've driven me up the wall already)
ReplyDeleteI always thought Arrow skewed male because it's an action show, but good lord, this very vocal part of the Olicity fandom (I know it's not everyone) makes it look more like the show's primary audience is 12-year-old girls.
ReplyDeleteIts Oxycodone. It is an opioid.
ReplyDeleteI agree with almost every single word of yours.
ReplyDeleteFinally, while I *loved* Oliver finally calling Laurel on her crap - it was one of those amazing cathartic scenes where a character says exactly what you're thinking (how many types have I typed that shit about Laurel?
ReplyDeleteStill, despite all that, it WAS one of the better Laurel scenes this season.
I actually hated the scene (as well as the scene with the realisation that Tommy's death was her fault in 2.03) BECAUSE they had to happen. They were good, but because it took that long to happen, they were awful.
ReplyDeleteMy god you just described Felicity to a t, lol
ReplyDeleteI have more of a problem with Felicity saying that the reason she was feeling down is because she didn't think she was still his "girl", than with Oliver replying that she is.
ReplyDeleteYou are remarkable
ReplyDeleteYou are cute
You are irreplaceable
Felicity,Felicity, Felicity. Come on Felicity gets a lot of characters worshipping her altar and ticks other points on the mary sue list.
Yeah, I know, but I didn't want to rip into the character again.
ReplyDeleteConsidering that Felicity wasn't exactly endeared by Sara, and Felicity was not portrayed as a villain for her feelings, this was pretty much the opposite of a Mary Sue.
That would be hysterical.
ReplyDeleteI did, but at the same time I couldn't help thinking he was kind of a tool for making that "You're giving notice?" comment to Dinah. Yes, Sara is back, but he couldn't just automatically assume Dinah was going to return to Starling because of that - and making said comment at the table put her in an awkward position. That's a discussion Quentin and Dinah should've had in private.
ReplyDeleteNo, not really. She is never always right, nor is she able to fix everything (otherwise the Glades would still be standing), and her actions do have consequences, even if it something minor like a scar. Plus, she is still pretty much a side-character, the plot is rarely about her.
ReplyDeleteLast time we saw Blood, he was telling Slade about how Moira was running for Mayor against him which could cause problems, and Slade said he'll take care of it himself.
ReplyDeleteEverything was perfect for Sara? lol did you see how much the family dinner crashed.
ReplyDeleteEven then cant she be happy for even a day, we know Slade is back and its likely he is going to be making a lot of hell for Oliver and Sara.
ReplyDeleteI'm hesitant to say Laurel's character is finally going to come around, coz you know - fool me once, twice, thrice... but who knows, maybe this time is the charm. It better be.
I think that it was high time for Oliver to break the circle. He had allowed Laurel to use him as an excuse for her own shortcomings for way to long. As long as he kept apologizing to her, he was also unwittingly acting as his enabler.
ReplyDeleteSara already apologized to Laurel last episode.
Yes, exactly. Dragging this out for so long does very little to redeem Laurel in my eyes.
ReplyDeleteI mean, it was good, but it was a talk that should have happened sooner.
What did you think of the Laurel/Oliver scene?
Sara/Sin could kinda be the Xena/Gabrielle of this show (minus the gay subtext). I hope we see more of this relationship. But yeah, I've mentioned that I want to see more of women being friends/working together on this show. Maybe now with Laurel and Sara burying the hatchet, Felicity and Sara getting along well, and Sara/Sin it's going to get better.
ReplyDeleteIn concept, I think Olicity is fine. In execution, it's been a disaster, in the late episodes of Season 1 (after the writers realized they had shippers to pander to) and more so this season. It's ridiculous, cheesy and has all of the subtlety of a wrecking ball.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I feel the same...and even if she comes around now, if the writers sacrifice Sara to make room for her becoming the Canary, I'll hate her.
ReplyDeleteBest. Scene. Ever. I've been wanting someone to say that to her all season.
ReplyDeleteAre you kidding me, she doesnt need a centric episode, because pretty much every episode is Felicity centric.
ReplyDeleteshe is not portrayed as the person in the wrong, that's my point
ReplyDeleteHaven´t you heard me , I´ve been telling her that all season long :)
ReplyDeleteDo you think he will actually stick to it though?
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree that Sara should've apologized.
ReplyDeleteConsidering she's cleaning up her act now, he won't because he has no need to because she won't blame everyone else for her problems or drink or take drugs etc. anymore.
ReplyDeleteWell i expect moira to find out slade is working with blood at some point.
ReplyDeleteIt was an amazing moment because I felt like I could've written that scene. All of the things Oliver told Laurel are stuff I've written over and over again to express my dislike of the character. Seeing it spelled out on screen was pure catharsis and gives me a little more faith in the writers: looks like they weren't blind to how unlikable they were making her.
ReplyDelete^This.
ReplyDeleteSeriously, that thing with the microscope looked like something you could teach in middle class biology.
ReplyDeleteThis episode was 10 steps back for Felicity in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteThank goodness somebody understands me here and don't think I have an agenda against Sara. I love you Alex. Its like you are reading my mind.
ReplyDeleteIn this episode
-Felicity took 10 steps back in character development for me. She is a professional not a teenage girl. Act like it
-Oliver is a hypocrite.
ReplyDeleteThat too in front of Oliver Queen an outsider. Tact is not something anyone from that family has.
ReplyDeleteMe too. I might be short with Sara this episode but if they ditch her to make Laurel BC, I'll start a riot.
ReplyDeleteI have a bad feeling if the show ends by season 5 and if the actress sticks around they have a plan to make her BC by the end of series finale.
ReplyDeleteCan you believe it us both feeling sorry for Laurel?? I am just glad that this episode is over . OLiver, Felicity and Sara will go back to their cool old selves.
ReplyDeleteWatched the episode again. Still don't like that scene. I was embarassed for Felicity. It felt like Felicity was a teenage girl trying to dress up like the girlfriend of the guy she likes and the said girlfriend pointing it out. No it wasn't funny.
ReplyDeleteEven I think he is going to have a moment where he realises that he is not that better than Moira. Of all the lies that Moira said since the show began this was the most selfless one. Its like all the character growth that Oliver got first half of the season just went away this last few episodes.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everything except Sara/Sin back story. Loved their interactions though. There was no need for that back story in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteSigh.
ReplyDelete* I used to find "combined couple names" nauseating - actually, I still do - but I've accepted that people are always going to use them, and I guess it makes it shorter to type, so whatever.
ReplyDeleteDidn't she just put the blood sample into the computer, which performed a test and found that Tockman had the disease? I thought what she did was fairly technical and didn't indicate special medical knowledge or anything.
ReplyDeleteBut anyway, you'll probably win those 10 bucks because yeah, the whole purpose of this was contrived set-up for Felicity's insecurity, something that had no build-up before and will probably never come up again. Groan.
